Plane thermoelasticity solutions are presented for the problem of a crack in bonded materials with a graded interfacial zone. The interfacial zone is treated as a nonhomogeneous interlayer having spatially varying thermoelastic moduli between dissimilar, homogeneous half-planes. The crack is assumed to exist in one of the half-planes at an arbitrary angle to the graded interfacial zone, disturbing uniform steady-state heat flows. The Fourier integral transform method is employed in conjunction with the coordinate transformations of field variables in the basic thermoelasticity equations. Formulation of the current nonisothermal crack problem lends itself to the derivation of two sets of Cauchy-type singular integral equations for heat conduction and thermal stress analyses. The heat-flux intensity factors and the thermal-stress intensity factors are defined and evaluated in order to quantify the singular characters of temperature gradients and thermal stresses, respectively, in the near-tip region. Numerical results include the variations of such crack-tip field intensity factors versus the crack orientation angle for various combinations of material and geometric parameters of the dissimilar media bonded through the thermoelastically graded interfacial zone. The dependence of the near-tip thermoelastic singular field on the degree of crack-surface partial insulation is also addressed.  相似文献

This paper investigates the edge crack problem for a coating/substrate system with a functionally graded interfacial zone under the condition of antiplane deformation. With the interfacial zone being modeled by a nonhomogeneous interlayer having the continuously varying shear modulus between the dissimilar, homogeneous phases of the coated medium, the coating is assumed to contain an edge crack at an arbitrary angle to the interfacial zone. The Fourier integral transform method is used in conjunction with the coordinate transformations of basic field variables. Formulation of the proposed crack problem is then reduced to solving a singular integral equation with a generalized Cauchy kernel. The mode III stress intensity factors are defined and evaluated in terms of the solution to the integral equation. In the numerical results, the values of the stress intensity factors are plotted, illustrating the effects of the crack orientation angle for various material and geometric combinations of the coating/substrate system with the graded interfacial zone.  相似文献

Anti-plane dynamic fracture analysis is presented for functionally graded materials (FGM) with arbitrary spatial variations of material properties. The FGM with the material properties varying continuously in an arbitrary manner is modeled as a multi-layered medium with the elastic modulus and mass density varying linearly in each sub-layer and continuous at the interfaces between two adjacent sub-layers. With this linearly inhomogeneous multi-layered model, the problem of a crack in a graded interfacial zone bonded to two homogeneous half-spaces or in a coating bonded to a homogeneous half-space subjected to the anti-plane shear impact load is investigated. Laplace and Fourier transforms and transfer matrix are applied to reduce the associated mixed boundary value problem to a Cauchy singular integral equation which is solved numerically in the Laplace transformed domain. The dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIF) are obtained by using the numerical technique of Laplace inversion.  相似文献

This paper provides the solution to the problem of dissimilar, homogeneous semi-infinite strips bonded through a functionally graded interlayer and weakened by an embedded or edge interfacial crack. The bonded system is assumed to be under antiplane deformation, subjected to either traction-free or clamped boundary conditions along its bounding planes. Based on the Fourier integral transform, the problem is formulated in terms of a singular integral equation which has a simple Cauchy kernel for the embedded crack and a generalized Cauchy kernel for the edge crack. In the numerical results, the effects of geometric and material parameters of the bonded system on the crack-tip stress intensity factors are presented in order to quantify the interfacial fracture behavior in the presence of the graded interlayer.  相似文献

In this study, the transient full field response of an interface crack between two different media subjected to dynamic body force at one material is investigated. For time t < 0, the bimaterial medium is stress free and at rest. At t = 0, a concentrated anti-plane dynamic point loading is applied at the medium as shown in Fig. 1. The total wave field is due to the effect of this point loading and the scattering of the incident waves by the interface crack. An alternative methodology that is different from the conventional superposition method is used to construct the reflected, refracted and diffracted wave fields. A useful fundamental solution is proposed in this study and the full field solution is determined by superposition of the fundamental solution in the Laplace transform domain. The proposed fundamental problem is the problem of applying an exponentially distributed traction (in the Laplace transform domain) on the interfacial crack faces. The Cagniard–de Hoop method of Laplace inversion is used to obtain the transient solution in time domain. Exact transient closed form solutions for stresses and stress intensity factors are obtained. Numerical results for the time history of stresses and stress intensity factors during the transient process are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The transient analysis of a magnetoelectroelastic medium containing a crack is made under antiplane mechanical and inplane electric and magnetic impacts. The crack is assumed to penetrate through the solid along the poling direction. By using the Fourier and Laplace transforms, the associated mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind, which is solved numerically. By means of a numerical inversion of the Laplace transform, dynamic field intensity factors are obtained in the time domain. Numerical results are presented graphically to show the effects of the material properties and applied electric and magnetic impacts on the dynamic intensity factors of COD and stress, and dynamic energy density factors. The results indicate that except for the intensity factors of electric displacement and magnetic induction, other field intensity factors exhibit apparent transient feature. Moreover, they depend strongly on mechanical input as well as electric and magnetic impacts.  相似文献

A mechanical model was established for the antiplane dynamic fracture problem of a functionally graded coating–substrate structure with a coating crack perpendicular to the weak-discontinuous interface. The problem was reduced to a Cauchy singular integral equation by the methods of Laplace and Fourier integral transforms. Erdogan’s collocation method and the Laplace numerical inversion proposed by Miller and Guy were used to calculate the dynamic stress intensity factors. Three conclusions were drawn through parametric studies: (a) unlike the conclusion drawn for an interfacial crack, reducing the weak discontinuity of the interface will not necessarily decrease the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF) of the coating crack perpendicular to the interface; (b) increasing the stiffness of the substrate when that of the coating is fixed, or decreasing the stiffness of coating when that of the substrate is fixed, will be beneficial for the reduction of the DSIF of a coating crack perpendicular to the interface; and (c) the free surface has a greater influence on the DSIF than the interface does, and the effect of the interface on the DSIF is greater than that of the material stiffness in the crack-tip region.  相似文献

This paper studies the dynamic stress intensity factor (DSIF) at the interface in an adhesive joint under shear loading. Material damage is considered. By introducing the dislocation density function and using the integral transform, the problem is reduced to algebraic equations and can be solved with the collocation dots method in the Laplace domain. Time response of DSIF is calculated with the inverse Laplace integral transform. The results show that the mode Ⅱ DSIF increases with the shear relaxation parameter, shear module and Poisson ratio, while decreases with the swell relaxation parameter. Damage shielding only occurs at the initial stage of crack propagation. The singular index of crack tip is -0.5 and independent on the material parameters, damage conditions of materials, and time. The oscillatory index is controlled by viscoelastic material parameters.  相似文献

The torsional impact response of a penny-shaped crack in an unbounded transversely isotropic solid is considered. The shear moduli are assumed to be functionally graded such that the mathematics is tractable. Laplace transform and Hankel transform are used to reduce the problem to solving a Fredholm integral equation. The crack tip stress fields are obtained. Investigated are the influence of material nonhomogeneity and orthotropy on the dynamic stress intensity factor. The peak value of the dynamic stress intensity factor can be suppressed by increasing the shear moduli's gradient and/or increasing the shear modulus in a direction perpendicular to the crack surface.  相似文献

The transient response of a magneto-electro-elastic material with a penny-shaped dielectric crack subjected to in-plane magneto-electro-mechanical impacts is made. To simulate an opening crack with a dielectric interior, the crack-face electromagnetic boundary conditions are supposed to depend on the crack opening displacement and the jumps of electric and magnetic potentials across the crack. Four ideal crack-face electromagnetic boundary conditions involving a combination of electrically permeable or impermeable and magnetically permeable or impermeable assumptions can be reduced. The Laplace and Hankel transform techniques are further utilized to solve the mixed initial-boundary-value problem. Three coupling Fredholm integral equations are obtained and solved by the composite Simpson's rule. Dynamic field intensity factors of stress, electric displacement, magnetic induction, crack opening displacement (COD), electric potential and magnetic potential are given in the Laplace transform domain. By means of a numerical inversion of the Laplace transform, numerical results are calculated to show the variations of the physical parameters of concern versus the normalized time in graphics. The effects of applied electric and magnetic loads on the dynamic intensity factors of stress and COD, and the dynamic energy release rate for a BaTiO3-CoFe2O4 composite with a penny-shaped vacuum crack are discussed in detail.  相似文献

The transient response of a Mode-III crack propagating in a magneto-electro-elastic solid subjected to mixed loads is investigated through solving the corresponding boundary-initial-value problem in both the cracked solid region and the interior fluid region with treatment of electro-magnetically permeable and impermeable crack face conditions in a unified way. The closed-form results for the dynamic field intensity factors are used to evaluate the dynamic energy release rate through the crack-tip dynamic contour integral. The permeability of the interior fluid region relative to the cracked solid region significantly affects the magneto-electro-mechanical coupling coefficient in the Bleustein–Gulyaev wave function and, consequently, the horizontal shear surface wave speed, the dynamic field intensity factors and the dynamic energy release rate. It is revealed from dynamic fracture mechanics analysis that the dynamic energy release rate thus obtained has an odd dependence on the dynamic electric displacement intensity factor and the dynamic magnetic induction intensity factor. It is also found that the horizontal shear surface wave speed provides the limiting velocity for the propagation of a Mode-III crack in a magneto-electro-elastic solid when there is only applied traction loading.  相似文献

The dynamic response of a functionally graded layered structure with a crack crossing the interface is analyzed. The in-plane impact loading condition is considered. By using the Laplace and Fourier integral transforms, singular integral equation method and residue theory, the present problem is reduced to a singular integral equation in the Laplace transform domain. The influences of Young’s modulus ratio, thickness ratio, and crack length and location on the dynamic stress intensity factors (DSIFs) are investigated. Particularly, the DSIFs corresponding to different crack locations are shown in the case when the crack center moves from one layer to another layer through the interface. The peak and static values and overshoot characteristics of the DSIFs are analyzed. It is found that these values typically exhibit kinking behavior when the crack tips arrive at the interface. This study is different from previous other investigations in the following respects: (1) the dynamic response of a crack crossing the interface of a functionally graded structure is studied analytically, which has hardly been done in the past and (2) the present model can be reduced to some important problems, such as a functionally graded coating-substrate structure with a crack in the graded coating or homogeneous substrate or one intersecting the interface.  相似文献

The transient fracture behavior of a functionally graded layered structure subjected to an in-plane impact load is investigated. The studied structure is composed of two homogeneous layers and a functionally graded interlayer with a crack perpendicular to the boundaries. The impact load is applied on the face of the crack. Fourier transform and Laplace transform methods are used to formulate the present problem in terms of a singular integral equation in Laplace transform domain. The transient response of a piezoelectric strip with an eccentric crack normal to the strip boundaries under applied electromechanical impacts is considered. By using the Laplace transform, the mixed initial-boundary-value problem is reduced to triple series equations, then to a singular integral equation of the first kind by introducing an auxiliary function. The Lobatto–Chebyshev collocation technique is adopted to solve numerically the resulting singular integral equation. Dynamic field intensity factors and energy release rate are obtained for both a permeable crack and an impermeable crack. The effects of the crack position and the material properties on the dynamic stress intensity factor are examined and numerical results are presented graphically.  相似文献

This paper investigates transient stresses around a cylindrical crack in an infinite elastic medium subject to impact loads. Incoming stress waves resulting from the impact load impinge on the crack in a direction perpendicular to the crack axis. In the Laplace transform domain, by means of the Fourier transform technique, the mixed boundary value equations with respect to stresses and displacements were reduced to two sets of dual integral equations. To solve the equations, the differences in the crack surface displacements were expanded in a series of functions that are zero outside the crack. The boundary conditions for the crack were satisfied by means of the Schmidt method. Stress intensity factors were defined in the Laplace transform domain and were numerically inverted to physical space. Numerical calculations were carried out for the dynamic stress intensity factors corresponding to some typical shapes assumed for the cylindrical crack.  相似文献

The transient response of a semi-infinite mode-III interfacial crack propagating between piezoelectric (PE) and piezomagnetic (PM) half spaces is investigated in this paper. The integral transform method together with the Wiener–Hopf and Cagniard–de Hoop techniques is used to solve the mixed boundary value problem under consideration. The existence of generalized Maerfeld–Tournois interfacial wave is discussed and the solutions of the coupled fields are derived for four different cases of bulk shear wave velocity. The dynamic intensity factors of stress, electric displacement and magnetic induction as well as energy release rate (ERR) are obtained in explicit forms. The numerical results of the universal functions and dimensionless ERR for several different material combinations are presented and discussed in details. It is found that the Bleustein–Gulyaev (generalized Maerfeld–Tournois) waves dominate the dynamic characteristics of the interfacial crack propagation in PE–PM bi-material.  相似文献

Summary  Plane elasticity solutions are presented for the problem of an oblique crack in two bonded media. The material model under consideration consists of a homogeneous half-plane with an arbitrarily oriented crack and a nonhomogeneous half-plane. The Fourier integral transform method is employed in conjunction with the coordinate transformations of field variables in the basic elasticity equations. Formulation of the crack problem results in having to solve a system of singular integral equations for arbitrary crack surface tractions. A crack perpendicular to or along the bonded interface between the homogeneous and nonhomogeneous constituents arises as a limiting case. In the numerical results, the values of mixed-mode stress intensity factors are provided for various combinations of relevant geometric and material parameters of the bonded media. Subsequently, the infinitesimal kinks from the tips of a main crack are presumed, with the corresponding local driving forces being evaluated in terms of the stress intensities of the main crack. The criterion of maximum energy release rate is applied with the aim of making some conjectures concerning the likelihood of kinking and the probable kink direction based on the approximation of local homogeneity and brittleness of the crack-tip behavior. An inter-diffusion interface model (IDIM) is put forward for a bonded structure. Laplace and Fourier integral transforms are applied to reduce the transient anti-plane fracture problem of the structure as a Cauchy singular integral equation. Lobatto-Chebyshev collocation method and Laplace numerical inversion transform are employed to evaluate transient stress intensity factors (TSIFs). The effects of geometrical and physical parameters on TSIFs are studied. Specially discussed are the influences of the weak/micro-discontinuity of the interfaces. Comparison between IDIM and the graded interlayer model indicates that if the inter-diffusion between the two original materials is prominent, the former should be applied instead of the latter in fracture analyses of bonded structures.  相似文献
