We consider simple modifications of the conventional Wilson action for lattice gauge theory. An SU(2) action is defined on “plaquettes” of 2×1 links. It is found to possess phase transitions in three- and four-dimensional realisations of the model. A similar model with gauge group Z(2) is also studied, and found to have two phases in three and four dimensions. We discuss the phase structure of Z(N) gauge models in four dimensions with several coupling constants and present phase diagrams for Z(4), Z(5) and Z(6).  相似文献

A variational method based on Hölder integral inequality is presented. Taking the parameters in integral inequality as variational parameters, we can calculate the free energy in lattice gauge system. The plaquatte energy of Z2U(1)、 SU(2) gauge system is found and consistent with that given by Monte Carlo method. But, the higher phase transitions for U(1), SU(2) gauge systems are not found.  相似文献

According to the principle of minimality, we find a newSU(6) model. ThisSU(6) model, and other models, can be identified as a theoretical origin of an extra Z0 boson. We apply the strategy of Boudjemaet al. (BLRV) which is very effective in identifying the theoretical origin of an extra Z0 boson in the newSU(6) model, and compare the model with six other models.  相似文献

We show that the SU(3) coupling scheme reproduces the data for E2 transitions in N = Z even-even nuclei both of the sd and the pf shells. The SU(3) results are compared with large-scale shell model calculations. Along the ground-state band-like structures, the increase of the B(E2) values with spin toward a maximum value and the subsequent fall with further increasing spin are reproduced rather well. The role of the quadrupole-quadrupole term of the nuclear residual interaction is stressed.  相似文献

We study the one-loop new physics effects to the CP even triple neutral gauge boson vertices γ γ Z, γ Z Z, Z Z γ and Z ZZ in the context of Little Higgs models. We compute the contribution of the additional fermions in Little Higgs models in the framework of direct product groups where [SU(2)×U(1)]2 gauge symmetry is embedded in SU(5) global symmetry and also in the framework of the simple group where SU(NU(1) gauge symmetry breaks down to SU(2) L ×U(1). We calculate the contribution of the fermions to these couplings when T parity is invoked. In addition, we re-examine the MSSM contribution at the chosen point of SPS1a′ and compare with the SM and Little Higgs models.  相似文献

It is well known that the MIC–Kepler problem, an extension of the three-dimensional Kepler problems, admits the same dynamical and symmetry groups as the Kepler problem. This paper aims to study dynamical and symmetry groups of the SU(2) Kepler problem, where the SU(2) Kepler problem is defined to be the dynamical system reduced from the eight-dimensional conformal Kepler problem through an SU(2) symmetry and turns out to be an extension of the five-dimensional Kepler problem. It is shown that the SU(2) Kepler problem admits a dynamical group SO*(8) and that the phase space of the SU(2) Kepler problem is symplectomorphic with a co-adjoint orbit of SO*(8), on which the Kirillov–Kostant–Souriau form is defined. It is further shown that the subgroups, SU(4), SU*(4), and Sp(2)×SR5, of SO*(8) provide the symmetry groups, SU(4)/Z2SO(6), SU*(4)/Z2SO0(1,5), and (Sp(2)×SR5)/Z2SO(5)×SR5, of the SU(2) Kepler problem with negative, positive, and zero energies, respectively, where ×S denotes a semi-direct product. Furthermore, constants of motion for the SU(2) Kepler problem are found together with their Poisson brackets. The symmetry Lie algebra formed by constants of motion is shown to be isomorphic with so(6)su(4), so(1,5)su*(4), or so(5)SR5sp(2)SR5, depending on whether the energy is negative, positive, or zero, where S denotes a semi-direct sum. These Lie algebras are subalgebras of so*(8)so(2,6).  相似文献

We determine here the most general electroweak interaction based on the groupSU(2)L×SU(2)R×U(1). When we rotate theZ 1,Z 2 basis to theZ,D basis such that the total interaction ofZ with the right-handed current is zero, we obtain an interaction that is free of triangle anomalies. This condition enables us to know the angle through whichZ 1,Z 2 basis is to be rotated. We show that the triangle anomaly free interaction obtained by others is contained here as a special case. We also determine the triangle anomaly free weak interaction whenever the neutral (Z,D) bosons are mass eigenstates and show that it reduces to the neutral sector of the standard model whenever g R 2 goes to infinity. The charged sector is also developed here. The most general elements of the masssquared matrix of theZ,D bosons are evaluated. The masses of the left- and right-handed charged bosons are also determined.  相似文献

We study a model of a pure Yang Mills theory with gauge group SU(2) on a lattice in Euclidean space. We compare it with the model obtained by restricting variables to Z2. An inequality relating expectation values of the Wilson loop integral in the two theories is established. It shows that confinement of static quarks is true in our SU(2) model whenever it holds for the corresponding Z2-model. The SU(2) model is shown to have high and low temperature phases that are distinguished by a qualitatively different behavior of the 't Hooft disorder parameter.  相似文献

The wave equation generalizing the Dirac operator to the Z3-graded case is introduced, whose diagonalization leads to a sixth-order equation. It intertwines not only quark and anti-quark state as well as the u and d quarks, but also the three colors, and is therefore invariant under the product group Z2 × Z2 × Z3. The solutions of this equation cannot propagate because their exponents always contain non-oscillating real damping factor. We show how certain cubic products can propagate nevertheless. The model suggests the origin of the color SU(3) symmetry and of the SU(2) × U(1) that arise automatically in this model, leading to the full bosonic gauge sector of the Standard Model.

We discuss supersymmetric surface defects in compactifications of six-dimensional minimal conformal matter of types SU(3) and SO(8) to four dimensions. The relevant field theories in four dimensions are \(\mathcal{N}=1\) quiver gauge theories with SU(3) and SU(4) gauge groups, respectively. The defects are engineered by giving space-time-dependent vacuum expectation values to baryonic operators. We find evidence that in the case of SU(3) minimal conformal matter, the defects carry SU(2) flavor symmetry which is not a symmetry of the four-dimensional model. The simplest case of a model in this class is SU(3) SQCD with nine flavors, and thus the results suggest that this admits natural surface defects with SU(2) flavor symmetry. We analyze the defects using the superconformal index and derive analytic difference operators introducing the defects into the index computation. The duality properties of the four-dimensional theories imply that the index of the models is a kernel function for such difference operators. In turn, checking the kernel property constitutes an independent check of the dualities and the dictionary between six- dimensional compactifications and four-dimensional models.

The problem of “small-field” phase transitions for Z(M) models on Cayley trees is solved in detail. Phase diagrams for zero field are obtained for M = 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. As special cases, Potts models are also considered and all phases (not only those in zero field) are identified. The M → ∈ limit, the planar rotator model, is also solved completely for the zero-field case. The relevance of the results (especially of the phase diagrams) for the problems associated with Z(M) models on real lattices is discussed.  相似文献

We consider a spontaneously broken gauge theory based on the standard model (SM) group with scalar fields that carry arbitrary representations of G, and we investigate some general properties of the charged and neutral current involving these fields. In particular we derive the conditions for having real or complex couplings of the Z boson to two different neutral or charged scalar fields, and for the existence of CP-violating Z-scalar-scalar couplings. Moreover, we study models with the same fermion content as in the SM, with one SU(2) Higgs singlet, and an arbitrary number of Higgs doublets. We show that the structure of the Z-Higgs boson and of the Yukawa couplings in these models can be such that CP-violating form factors which conserve chirality are induced at the one-loop level. Recently, Minahan, Nemeschansky, Vafa and Warner computed partition functions for N = 4 topological Yang–Mills theory on rational elliptic surfaces. In particular they computed generating functions of Euler characteristics of SU(2)-instanton moduli spaces. In mathematics, they are expected to coincide with those of Gieseker compactifications. In this paper, we compute Euler characteristics of these spaces and show that our results coincide with theirs. We also check the modular property of Z SU (2) and Z SO (3) conjectured by Vafa and Witten. Received: 8 June 1998 / Accepted: 1 February 1999  相似文献

We analyze two dimensional gases composed of particles interacting via a Coulomb or Yakawa potential through their “non-Abelian” charges. These charges are taken to be elementary weight or root vectors of SU(N). The grand partition function of these gases is shown to be equivalent to the generating functional of sine-Gordon models with weight vectors and hence to that of SU(N) fermion models. The fermion field creates or annihilates topological solitons which have elementary weight vectors as topological quantum numbers. Then, we discuss the confinement of fermions in the SU(N) Higgs models, where instantons (ZN vortices) constitute a Yukawa gas of weight charges. We prove that fermions are confirmed by the effects of instantons in the SU(N) Higgs models in contrast with the Abelian Higgs model.  相似文献

We discuss the Abelian vortex dynamics in the Abelian projection approach to non-Abelian spin models. We show numerically that in the three-dimensional SU(2) spin model in the maximal Abelian projection the Abelian off-diagonal vortices, unlike the diagonal vortices, are not responsible for the phase transition. A generalization of the Abelian projection approach to SU(N) spin models is briefly discussed. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. Recent data obtained by LEP1 are discussed and their potential implication for the existence of a Z particle. This letter advocates that this fits within the basic tenet of an SU(2)×SU(2) extended theory of the standard model of electroweak interactions. This extended electroweak model is motivated by nonabelian electrodynamics that provides an effective calculus for nonlinear optics.  相似文献

We have performed large-scale shell model calculations of the Gamow-Teller strength distributions in NZ pf -shell nuclei. These calculations were motivated by the experimental attempts to measure the low-lying GT strength for the even-even N = Z + 2 or N = Z - 2 nuclei 46Ti , 50Cr , 54Fe and 62Ge , where a sizable low-energy GT strength could be interpreted as reminiscence of SU(4) symmetry; in the limit of exact SU(4) symmetry the GT- strength would be concentrated in a single transition to the lowest T = 0, J = 1+ state in the daughter. We confirm that the SU(4) symmetry is strongly broken by the spin-orbit interaction and by increasing neutron excess.  相似文献

The distribution function of the Polyakov loop is investigated on a 163×3 lattice in the neighbourhood of the deconfinement transition ofSU(2) gauge theory. We find, that well above the transition the distribution is a Gaussian; when the coupling approaches the critical point it is modified due to phase flip attempts of the system. Corresponding distributions for the plaquettes remain, however, Gaussian. For one coupling close to the transition we study the distributions on 83, 123 and 183×4 lattices and show that strong finite size effects are present. Using the maximum values of the Gaussian parts of the distributions we construct a more physical (and therefore scaling) order parameter whose critical exponent is in excellent agreement with the universality hypothesis.  相似文献

The possible variants of the unified models of electroweak interaction of leptons in the framework of the broken gauge SU(2) × U(1) × U′(1)-symmetry are constructed. In the first part analysis of SU(2) × U(1) × U′(1)-symmetry breaking by the different combinations of two types of Goldstone-Higgs fields: isodoublet φ and isosinglet Φ complex isovector ξ and Φ φ and ξ is considered. The second part is devoted to the construction of the feasible leptonic models in which the masses of the introduced leptons can be generated by symmetry breaking due to the fields considered in the first part. In the third part acceptability of these models from the point of view of available experimental data of cross-sections of muonic neutrino and antineutrino scattering on electron has been investigated.  相似文献

Semiclassical quantization of the SU(3)-skyrmion zero modes is performed by means of the collective coordinate method. The quantization condition known for SU(2) solitons quantized with SU(3) collective coordinates is generalized for SU(3) skyrmions with strangeness content different from zero. The quantization of the dipole-type configuration with large strangeness content found recently is considered as an example and the spectrum and the mass splittings of the quantized states are estimated. The energy and baryon number density of SU(3) skyrmions are presented in a form emphasizing their symmetry in different SU(2) subgroups of SU(3), and a lower bound for the static energy of SU(3) skyrmions is derived.
