Hilbert(ian) A-modules over finite von Neumann algebras with a faithful normal trace state (from global analysis) and Hilbert W*-modules over A (from operator algebra theory) are compared and a categorical equivalence is established. The correspondence between these two structures sheds new light on basic results in L 2-invariant theory providing alternative proofs. We indicate new invariants for finitely generated projective B-modules, where B is a unital C*-algebra (usually the full group C*-algebra C*() of the fundamental group =1(M) of a manifold M).  相似文献

We define a version at roots of unity of the cyclic homology of a cyclic module and prove that it is isomorphic to its usual cyclic homology. Our proofs use the homological algebra of N-complexes and the Tor functors in the categories of simplicial and cyclic modules. We also give simplified proofs of known results about the homology of simplicial modules at roots of unity.  相似文献

This paper merges some classifications of G-M-type Banach spaces simplifically, discusses the condition of K 0(B(X)) = 0 for operator algebra B(X) on a Banach space X, and obtains a result to improve Laustsen's sufficient condition, gives an example to show that XX 2 is not a sufficient condition of K 0(B(X)) = 0.  相似文献

Let G be a group and k a subring of the field of complex numbers. In this paper we study the additive map in reduced K-theory, which is associated with the inclusion of the group algebra kG into the group von Neumann algebra G, and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for it to be identically zero (or zero modulo torsion). Our results complete the work of Eckmann [Comm. Math. Helvet. 71 (1996), 453–462; Arch. Math. 76 (2001), 241–249] and Schafer [K-theory 19 (2000), 211–217], while reducing to Swan’s theorem on induced representations [Ann. Math. 71 (1960), 552–578], in the case where the group G is finite. (Received: January 2005) Research supported by University of Athens grant Pythagoras 70/3/7298.  相似文献

For the action of a locally compact and totally disconnected group G on a pair of locally compact spaces X and Y we construct, by sheaf theoretic means, a new equivariant and bivariant cohomology theory. If we take for the first space Y an universal proper G-action then we obtain for the second space its delocalized equivariant homology. This is in exact formal analogy to the definition of equivariant K-homology by Baum, Connes, Higson starting from the bivariant equivariant Kasparov KK-theory. Under certain basic finiteness conditions on the first space Y we conjecture the existence of a Chern character from the equivariant Kasparov KK-theory of Y and X into our cohomology theory made two-periodic which becomes an isomorphism upon tensoring the KK-theory with the complex numbers. This conjecture is proved for profinite groups G. An essential role in our construction is played by a bivariant version of Segal localization which we establish for KK-theory.  相似文献

The N-Isometric Isomorphisms in Linear N-Normed C^*-Algebras   总被引:3,自引:3,他引:0
We prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of linear N-isometries in linear N-normed Banach mod- ules over a unital C^*-algebra. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate N-isometric C^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed C^*-algebras, N-isometric Poisson C^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Poisson C^*-algebras, N-isometric Lie C^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Lie C^*-algebras, N-isometric Poisson JC^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Poisson JC^*-algebras, and N-isometric Lie JC^*-algebra isomorphisms between linear N-normed Lie JC^*-algebras. Moreover, we prove the Hyers- Ulam stability of t:heir N-isometric homomorphisms.  相似文献

We introduce two notions of the pressure in operator algebras, one is the pressure Pα(π, T) for an automorphism α of a unital exact C^*-algebra A at a self-adjoint element T in A with respect to a faithful unital *-representation π the other is the pressure Pτ,α(T) for an automorphism α of a hyperfinite von Neumann algebra M at a self-adjoint element T in M with respect to a faithful normal α-invariant state τ. We give some properties of the pressure, show that it is a conjugate invaxiant, and also prove that the pressure of the implementing inner automorphism of a crossed product A×α Z at a self-adjoint operator T in A equals that of α at T.  相似文献

Let G be a connected semisimple real algebraic group. Assume that G(R) has no compact factors and let Γ be a torsion-free uniform lattice subgroup of G(R). Then Γ contains a malnormal abelian subgroup A. This implies that the II1 factor VN(Γ) contains a masa A with Pukánszky invariant {∞}.  相似文献

LetA be the transformation groupC *-algebra associated with an arbitrary orientation-preserving homeomorphism of . ThisC *-algebra contains an infinite family of projections, called Rieffel projections, each of which generates theK 0-groupK 0(A). Although these projections must beK-theoretically equivalent, it is easy to see that most are not Murray-von Neumann equivalent. The mystery of how large the matrix algebra must be to implement theK-theory equivalence, is solved by explicitly constructing the equivalence in the smallest possible algebra:A with unit adjoined.Partially supported by NSF Grant DMS 8901923.  相似文献

We establish a rational isomorphism between certain relative versions of Hermitian K-theory and the dihedral homology of simplicial Hermitian rings. This is the dihedral analogue of Goodwillie's result for cyclic homology and algebraic K-theory. In particular, we describe involutions on (negative) cyclic homology and the K-theory of simplicial rings. We show that Goodwillie's map from K-theory to negative cyclic homology can be chosen to preserve involutions. By work of Burghelea and Fiedorowicz the invariants of the involution on K-theory can be identified with symmetric Hermitian K-theory. Finally, we show how the author's chain complex defining dihedral homology can be extended to the left to capture the invariants of the involution on negative cyclic homology.Supported by New Mexico State University, grant No. RC90-051.  相似文献

For compact Lie groups, the Chern characters K*(G) Q H* DR(G;Q) have been already constructed. In this paper, we construct and study the corresponding noncommutative Chern characters. They are homomorphisms chC*: K*(C*(G)) from quantum K-groups into entire current periodic cyclic homology groups of group C*-algebras. We also obtain the corresponding algebraic version chalg: K*(C*(G)) HP*(C*(G)), which can be identified with the classical Chern character K* (C(T)) HP* (C(T)), where T is the maximal torus of G.  相似文献

In this paper, we point out that most results on abelian (complex)W *-algebras hold in the real case. Of course, there are differences in homeomorphisms of period 2. Moreover, an abelian real Von Neumann algebra not containing any minimal projection on a separable real Hilbert space is * isomorphic toL τ ([0, 1]) (all real functions inL ([0, 1])), orL ([0, 1]) (as a realW *-algebra), orL τ ([0, 1]) ⋇L ([0, 1]) (as a realW *-algebra), and it is different from the complex case. The precise relationship between the Bass conjecture for the Hattori–Stallings trace for projective ZG-modules and the map from reduced K-theory of ZG to reduced K-theory of the von Neumann algebra, NG, of G, of G is determined. As a consequence it is shown this map is zero for all groups G. It is also shown that the map induced on K-theory from the inclusion of NG to the ring of closed, densely defined operators affiliated to NG is an isomorphism. Together with the above result, this gives some positive evidence for the validity of the Division Ring Conjecture for torsion free groups.  相似文献

We introduce a topological-type invariant for a cocompact properly discontinuous action of a discrete group on a Riemannian manifold generalizing classical notions of Reidemeister torsion. It takes values in the weak algebraic K-theory of the von Neumann algebra of . We give basic tools for its computation like sum and product formulas and calculate it in several cases. It encompasses, for instance, the Alexander polynomial and is related to analytic torsion.  相似文献

Integration of vector-valued functions is seldom appreciated because of its abstract nature. In this paper, we give a real-valued representation of the Bochner integral of a function with values in an Orlicz space. This is given in the first theorem on the necessary condition for Bochner integrability of such a function. The second theorem gives sufficient conditions for Bochner integrability.AMS Subject Classification (1991) 28Supported by a grant from the Natural Science Research Institute, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Q.C. 1101, Quezon City, Philippines.  相似文献
