Interactions between metal ions and amino acids are common both in solution and in the gas phase. Here, the effect of metal ions and water on the structure of glycine is examined. The effect of metal ions (Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) and water on structures of Gly.Mn+(H2O)m and GlyZwitt.Mn+(H2O)m (m = 0, 2, 5) complexes have been determined theoretically by employing the hybrid B3LYP exchange-correlation functional and using extended basis sets. Selected calculations were carried out also by means of CBS-QB3 model chemistry. The interaction enthalpies, entropies, and Gibbs energies of eight complexes Gly.Mn+ (Mn+ = Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) were determined at the B3LYP density functional level of theory. The computed Gibbs energies DeltaG degrees are negative and span a rather broad energy interval (from -90 to -1100 kJ mol(-1)), meaning that the ions studied form strong complexes. The largest interaction Gibbs energy (-1076 kJ mol(-1)) was computed for the NiGly2+ complex. Calculations of the molecular structure and relative stability of the Gly.Mn+(H2O)m and GlyZwitt.Mn+(H2O)m (Mn+ = Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+; m = 0, 2, and 5) systems indicate that in the complexes with monovalent metal cations the most stable species are the NO coordinated metal cations in non-zwitterionic glycine. Divalent cations Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ prefer coordination via the OO bifurcated bonds of the zwitterionic glycine. Stepwise addition of two and five water molecules leads to considerable changes in the relative stability of the hydrated species. Addition of two water molecules at the metal ion in both Gly.Mn+ and GlyZwitt.Mn+ complexes reduces the relative stability of metallic complexes of glycine. For Mn+ = Li+ or Na+, the addition of five water molecules does not change the relative order of stability. In the Gly.K+ complex, the solvation shell of water molecules around K+ ion has, because of the larger size of the potassium cation, a different structure with a reduced number of hydrogen-bonded contacts. This results in a net preference (by 10.3 kJ mol(-1)) of the GlyZwitt.K+H2O5 system. Addition of five water molecules to the glycine complexes containing divalent cations Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+ results in a net preference for non-zwitterionic glycine species. The computed relative Gibbs energies are quite high (-10 to -38 kJ mol(-1)), and the NO coordination is preferred in the Gly.Mn+(H2O)5 (Mn+ = Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+) complexes over the OO coordination.  相似文献

By a systematic examination on Na(H2O)n, with n = 4-7, 9, 10, and 15, we demonstrate that a hydrogen loss reaction can be initiated by a single sodium atom with water molecules. This reaction is similar to the well-known size-dependent intracluster hydrogen loss in Mg+(H2O)n, which is isoelectronic to Na(H2O)n. However, with one less charge on Na(H2O)n than that on Mg+(H2O)n, the hydrogen loss for Na(H2O)n is characterized by a higher barrier and a more flexible solvation shell around the metal ion, although the reaction should be accessible, as the lowest barrier is around 8 kcal/mol. Interestingly, the hydroxide ion OH- produced in the process is stabilized by the solvation of H2O molecules and the formation of an ion pair Na+(H2O)4(H2O)n-l-4[OH-(H2O)l]. The activation barrier is reduced as the unpaired electron in Na(H2O)n moves to higher solvation shells with increasing cluster size, and the reaction is not switched off for larger clusters. This is in sharp contrast to the reaction for Mg+(H2O)n, in which the OH- ion is stabilized by direct coordination with Mg2+ and the reaction is switched off for n > 17, as the unpaired electron moved to higher solvation shells. Such a contrast illustrates the important link between microsolvation environment and chemical reactivity in solvation clusters.  相似文献

Relaxation processes of the energy-rich protonated water dimer H+(H2O)2 were investigated by the ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) method. At first, the energy-rich H+(H2O)2 was reproduced by simulating a collision reaction between the protonated water monomer H3O+ and H2O. Next it was collided with N2 in order to observe the effects of intramolecular vibration redistribution and intermolecular energy transfer. Forty-eight AIMD simulations of the collision of H+(H2O)2 with N2 were performed by changing the initial orientation and the time interval between two collisions. It was revealed that the amount of energy transferred from H+(H2O)2 to N2 decreased the longer the time interval. The relationship between the intermolecular energy transfer and the vibrational states was examined with the use of an energy-transfer spectrogram (ETS), which is an analysis technique combining energy density analysis and short-time Fourier transform. The ETS demonstrates a characteristic vibrational mode for the energy transfer, which corresponds to the stretching of the hydrogen bond between H+(H2O)2 and N2 in an active complex.  相似文献

Ligands derived from the tripodal N4 ligand tris(pyridylmethyl)amine ((pyCH2)3N, tpa) of general formula (6-RNHpyCH2)nN(CH2py)(3-n)(R = H, n= 1-3 L(1-3); R = neopentyl, n= 1-3 L'(1-3)) were used to elucidate and quantify the magnitude of the effects exerted by hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic environments in the zinc-water acidity of their complexes. The pKa of the zinc-bound water molecule of [(L(1-3))Zn(OH2)]2+ and [(L'(1-3))Zn(OH2)]2+ 1'-3' was determined by potentiometric pH titrations in water (1-3) or water-ethanol (1:1) (1'-3'). The zinc(II) water acidity gradually increases as the number of -NH2 hydrogen bonding groups adjacent to the water molecule increases. Thus, the zinc-bound water of [(L3)Zn(OH2)]2+ and [(tpa)Zn(OH2)]2+ deprotonate with pKa values of 6.0 and 8.0, respectively. The pKa of the water molecule, however, is only raised from 8.0 in [(tpa)Zn(OH2)]2+ to 9.1 in [(bpg)Zn(OH2)]+ (bpa =(pyCH2)2N(CH2COO-)). Moreover, the acidity of the zinc-bound water of several of the five-coordinate zinc(II) complexes with the hydrogen bonding groups is greater than that of four-coordinate [((12)aneN3)Zn(OH2)]2+ (pKa = 7.0). This result shows that the magnitude of the effect exerted by the hydrogen bonding groups can be larger than that induced by changing one neutral by one anionic ligand, and/or even by changing the coordination number of the zinc(II) centre. The X-ray structure of [(L'2)Zn(OH)]ClO4 2' and [(L'3)Zn(OH)]ClO4.CH3CN 3'.CH3CN is reported, and show the neopentylamino groups forming N-H...O hydrogen bonds with the zinc-bound hydroxide. Although, which have hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic groups, have a zinc-bound water more acidic than [(tpa)Zn(OH2)]2+, their pKa is not always lower than that of 1-3. This result suggests that a hydrogen bonding microenvironment may be more effective than a hydrophobic one to increase the zinc-water acidity.  相似文献

The observed gas-phase coordination number of K+ in K+(H2O)m clusters is smaller than that observed in bulk solution, where the coordination number has been reported to be between 6 and 8. Both theoretical and gas-phase studies of K+(H2O)m cluster ions point to a coordination number closer to 4. In the gas phase, the coordination number is determined by a variety of factors-the most critical being the magnitude of the K+...ligand pairwise interaction. Decreasing the magnitude of the ion...ligand interaction allows more ligands to directly interact with the cation. One method for decreasing the ion...ligand interaction in K+(H2O)m clusters is to systematically substitute weakly bound ligands for the more strongly bound water molecules. The systematic introduction of para-difluorobenzene (DFB) to K+(H2O)m clusters was monitored using infrared photodissociation spectroscopy in the OH stretching region. By varying the ratio of DFB molecules to water molecules present in K+(H2O)m(DFB)n clusters, the observed coordination number of gas-phase K+ was increased to 8, similar to that reported for bulk solution.  相似文献

Aqua ligands in mixed aqua/nucleobase metal complexes are potential sites of acid-base catalysis and/or, when present as hydroxo ligands, can directly be involved in hydrolysis reactions. pKa values of close to 7 are consequently of particular interest and potential significance. Here we report on the differential acidity of aqua complexes in model nucleobase (nb) complexes of cis- and trans-[Pt(NH3)2 (nb)(H2O)]n+ and discuss reasons as to why the nb in cis complexes influences the pKa (pKa 4.8-7.0), whereas in trans complexes the pKa values are rather constant (pKa approximately 5.2-5.3). The results of DFT calculations of a series of mono(nucleobase) complexes derived from cis-Pt(NH3)2 are critically examined with regard to the role of exocyclic groups of nucleobases in stabilizing aqua/hydroxo ligands through intracomplex hydrogen bond formation. This applies in particular to the exocyclic amino groups of nucleobases, for which gas-phase calculations suggest that they may act as H bond acceptors in certain cases, yet in the condensed phase this appears not to be the case.  相似文献

The oxidation of ABTS2- [2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate)] with a superoxorhodium(III) complex, L2(H2O)RhOO2+ (L2 = meso-hexamethylcyclam) is characterized by an acid-dependent equilibrium constant, log(Ke/[H+]) = 4.91 +/- 0.10 in the pH range of 4.89-6.49. This equilibrium constant was used to calculate the reduction potential for the L2(H2O)RhOO2+/L2(H2O)RhOOH2+ couple, E0 = 0.97 V vs NHE. The pH dependence of the kinetics of the L2(H2O)RhOOH2+/I- reaction yielded the acid dissociation constant for the coordinated water in L2(H2O)RhOOH2+, pKa = 6.9. Spectrophotometric pH titrations provided pKa = 6.6 for the superoxo complex, L2(H2O)RhOO2+. The combination of the two pKa values with the reduction potential measured in acidic solutions yielded the reduction potential E0 = 0.95 V for the L2(HO)RhOO+/L2(HO)RhOOH+ couple. Thermochemical calculations yielded the bond-dissociation free energy of the L2(H2O)RhOO-H2+ bond as 315 kJ/mol at 298 K.  相似文献

Thermodynamic and kinetic studies on the X- = NCS-, N3-, and CH3CO2- replacement of H2O/OH- at the CuII exogenous site of the tyrosyl-radical-containing enzyme galactose oxidase (GOaseox) from Fusarium (NRR 2903), have been studied by methods involving UV-vis spectrophotometry (25 degrees C), pH range 5.5-8.7, I = 0.100 M (NaCl). In the case of N3- and CH3CO2- previous X-ray structures have confirmed coordination at the exogenous H2O/OH- site. From the effect of pH on the UV-vis spectrum of GOaseox under buffer-free conditions, acid dissociation constants of 5.7 (pK1a; coordinated H2O) and 7.0 (pK2a; H+Tyr-495) have been determined. At pH 7.0 formation constants K(25 degrees C)/M-1 are NCS- (480), N3- (1.98 x 10(4)), and CH3CO2- (104), and from the variations in K with pH the same two pKa values are seen to apply. No pK1a is observed when X- is coordinated. From equilibration stopped-flow studies rate constants at pH 7.0 for the formation reaction kf(25 degrees C)/M-1 s-1 are NCS- (1.13 x 10(4)) and N3- (5.2 x 10(5)). Both K and kf decrease with increasing pH, consistent with the electrostatic effect of replacing H2O by OH-. In the case of the GOaseox Tyr495Phe variant pK1a is again 5.7, but no pK2a is observed, confirming the latter as acid dissociation of protonated Tyr-495. At pH 7.0, K for the reaction of four-coordinate GOaseox Tyr495Phe with NCS- (1.02 x 10(5) M-1) is more favorable than the value for GOaseox. Effects of H+Tyr-495 deprotonation on K are smaller than those for the H2O/OH- change. The pK1a for GOasesemi is very similar (5.6) to that for GOaseox (both at CuII), but pK2a is 8.0. At pH 7.0 values of K for GOasesemi are NCS- (270 M-1), N3- (4.9 x 10(3)), and CH3CO2- (107).  相似文献

Density functional theory calculations on complexes of 4C1, 1C4 and 2SO ring conformations of methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside 1 with divalent metal cations, M = Mg2+, Ca2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+, are presented. Bridging and pendant cationic, [M(H2O)41]2+ and [M(H2O)(5)1]2+, as well as neutral complexes, [M(OH)2(H2O)(2)1] and [M(OH)2(H2O)(3)1], and neutral complexes involving a doubly deprotonated sugar, [M(H2O)(4)1(2-)], are considered. In aqueous and chloroform solution the stability of cationic and pendant neutral complexes is greatly diminished compared with gas-phase results. In contrast, bridging neutral complexes [M(OH)2(H2O)(2)1] and those of type [M(H2O)(4)1(2-)], are stabilized with increasing solvent polarity. Solvation also profoundly influences the preferred binding position and ring conformation. Compared with complexes of bare metal cations, additional ligands, e.g., H2O or OH-, significantly reduce the stability of 1C4 ring complexes. Irrespective of the cation, the most stable structure of bridging complexes [M(H2O)(4)1]2+ results from coordination of the metal to O3 and O4 of methyl beta-D-xylopyranoside in its 4C1 ring conformation.  相似文献

The synthesis of (Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1), where Dien = diethylenetriamine and PMEA2- = dianion of 9-[2-(phosphonomethoxy)ethyl]adenine, is described. The acidity constants of the threefold protonated H3[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1)]3+ complex were determined and in part estimated (UV spectrophotometry and potentiometric pH titration): The release of the proton from the (N7)H+ site in H4[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1)]3+ occurs with a rather low pKa (= 0.52+/-0.10). The release of the proton from the -P(O)2(OH) group (pKa = 6.69+/-0.03) in H[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1)]+ is only slightly affected by the N1-coordinated (Dien)Pt2+ unit. Comparison with the acidic properties of the H[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N7)]+ species provides evidence that in the (Dien)Pt(PMEA-N7) complex in aqueous solution an intramolecular, outer-sphere macrochelate is formed through hydrogen bonds between the -PO3(2-) residue of PMEA2- and a PtII-coordinated (Dien)NH2 group; its formation degree amounts to about 40%. The stability constants of the M[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1)]2+ complexes with M2+ = Mg2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ were measured by potentiometric pH titrations in aqueous solution at 25 degrees C and I = 0.1 M (NaNO3). Application of previously determined straight-line plots of log K(M(R-PO3))M versus pK(H(R-PO3)H for simple phosph(on)ate ligands. R-PO3(2-), where R represents a non-inhibiting residue without an affinity for metal ions, proves that the primary binding site of (Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1) is the phosphonate group with all metal ions studied; in fact, Mg2+, Ca2+ and Ni2+ coordinate (within the error limits) only to this site. For the Cu[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1)]2+ and Zn[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1)]2- systems also the formation of five-membered chelates involving the ether oxygen of the -CH2-O-CH2-PO3(2-) residue could be detected; the formation degrees are about 60% and 30%, respectively. The metal-ion-binding properties of the isomeric (Dien)Pt(PMEA-N7) species studied previously differ in so far that the resulting M[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N7)]2+ complexes are somewhat less stable, but again Cu2+ and Zn2+ also form with this ligand comparable amounts of the mentioned five-membered chelates. In contrast, both M[(Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1/N7)]2+ complexes differ from the parent M(PMEA) complexes considerably; in the latter instance the formation of the five-membered chelates is of significance for all divalent metal ions studied. The observation that divalent metal-ion binding to the phosphonate group of (Dien)Pt(PMEA-N1) and (Dien)Pt(PMEA-N7) is only moderately inhibited (about 0.2-0.4 log units) by the twofold positively charged (Dien)Pt2+ unit at the adenine residue allows the general conclusion, considering that PMEA is a nucleotide analogue, that this is also true for nucleotides and that consequently participation of, for example, two metal ions in an enzymatic process involving nucleotides is not seriously hampered by charge repulsion.  相似文献

The exchange of a second coordination sphere water molecule in [Zn(H(2)O)(4)(L)](2+)·2H(2)O (L = HN(3), HCN, FCN, ClCN, BrCN, CH(3)CN, (C(4)H(3))CN, PhCN, (CH(3))(3)CCN, CF(3)CN, CCl(3)CN, CHCl(2)CN, and CH(2)ClCN) against a coordinated water molecule was studied by quantum chemical calculations (RB3LYP/6-311+G**). The complete reaction consists of an associative binding of one H(2)O from the second coordination sphere leading to a six-coordinate intermediate [Zn(H(2)O)(5)(L)](2+)·H(2)O, followed by the dissociation of a water molecule to reach the product state [Zn(H(2)O)(4)(L)](2+)·2H(2)O. For a real water exchange reaction to occur two different transition states have to be included, otherwise only an apparent water exchange reaction takes place. For the water exchange reaction in [Zn(H(2)O)(4)(L)](2+)·2H(2)O, nearly iso-energetic cis- and trans-orientated transition states are crossed. The gas-phase proton affinity of L shows instructive correlations with structural parameters and energy gaps for the investigated reactions.  相似文献

Interactions between metal ions and amino acids are common both in solution and in the gas phase. The effect of metal ions and water on the structure of L-arginine is examined. The effects of metal ions (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), and Zn(2+)) and water on structures of Arg x M(H2O)m , m = 0, 1 complexes have been determined theoretically by employing the density functional theories (DFT) and using extended basis sets. Of the three stable complexes investigated, the relative stability of the gas-phase complexes computed with DFT methods (with the exception of K(+) systems) suggests metallic complexes of the neutral L-arginine to be the most stable species. The calculations of monohydrated systems show that even one water molecule has a profound effect on the relative stability of individual complexes. Proton dissociation enthalpies and Gibbs energies of arginine in the presence of the metal cations Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), and Zn(2+) were also computed. Its gas-phase acidity considerably increases upon chelation. Of the Lewis acids investigated, the strongest affinity to arginine is exhibited by the Cu(2+) cation. The computed Gibbs energies DeltaG(o) are negative, span a rather broad energy interval (from -150 to -1500 kJ/mol), and are appreciably lowered upon hydration.  相似文献

Singly hydrated clusters of deprotonated amino acids were studied using an electrospray high-pressure mass spectrometer equipped with a pulsed ion-beam reaction chamber. Thermochemical data, DeltaH(o), DeltaS(o), and DeltaG(o), for the hydration reaction [AA - H](-) + H(2)O = [AA - H](-).(H(2)O) were obtained from gas-phase equilibria determinations for AA = Gly, Ala, Val, Pro, Phe, Lys, Met, Trp, Gln, Arg, and Asp. The hydration free-energy changes are found to depend significantly on the side-chain substituents. The water binding energy in [AA - H](-).(H(2)O) increases with the gas-phase acidity of AA. The anionic hydrogen bond strengths in [AA - H](-).(H(2)O) are compared with those of the cationic bonds in the corresponding AAH(+).(H(2)O) systems.  相似文献

The UV-absorption, fluorescence excitation and emission spectra of the 6-chloro-, 8-chloro-, 6,8-dichloro-derivatives of nor-harmane, harmane and harmine and the 8-chloro-derivative of harmol were studied. These studies were performed in EtOH and in EtOH+1% perchloric acid solutions (pa). Furthermore, fluorescence quantum yields (phi(f)) in both media and in acetonitrile and acetonitrile + 1% perchloric acid solutions at 298 K were measured. The HOMO and LUMO energy, the positions (lambda(max)) and oscillator strength (f) of the 1S1 <-- 1S0 band for all the neutral and protonated beta-carbolines studied were calculated and compared with the experimental data. The pK(a) values in aqueous solution for for 6-chloro-, 8-chloro- and 6,8-dichloro-nor-harmane, harmane and harmine and 8-chloro-harmol were spectrophotometrically measured (pK(a(H2O)). The change of the acid-base character of these compounds on going from the ground state (pK(a)) to the first electronic excited singlet state (pKa*) as DeltapKa = pKa*-pKa, in ethanol solution at 298 K were calculated (DeltapK(a(EtOH))). Ground-state proton affinity (PA) for all the compounds studied defined as minus the enthalpy change of the reaction M + H(+) --> MH+ (gas state) were calculated. Basicity relative to pyridine (DeltaH(rPy)) defined as the enthalpy change of the isodesmic reaction MH(+) + Py --> M + PyH+ in gas state and in water solution, were also calculated (ab initio calculations). The effect of chlorine as substituent on the photochemistry and acid-base properties of the beta-carboline alkaloids is discussed.  相似文献

The dinucleotide d(pGpG) is an often employed DNA model to study various kinds of interactions between DNA and metal ions, but its acid-base properties were not yet described in detail. In this study the six deprotonation reactions of H4[d(pGpG)]+ are quantified. The acidity constants for the release of the first proton from the terminal P(O)(OH)2 group (pKa = 0.65) and for one of the (N7)H+ sites (pKa = 2.4) are estimated. The acidity constants of the remaining four deprotonation reactions were measured by potentiometric pH titrations in aqueous solution (25 degrees C; I = 0.1 M, NaNO3): The pKa values for the deprotonations of the second (N7)H+, the P(O)2(OH)-, and the two (N1)H sites are 2.98, 6.56, 9.54 and 10.11, respectively. Based on these results we show how to estimate acidity constants for related systems that have not been studied, e.g. pGpG, which is involved in the initiation step of a rotavirus RNA polymerase. The relevance of our results for nucleic acids in general is briefly indicated.  相似文献

Ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations for the excited-state hydrogen transfer (ESHT) reaction of 7-azaindole (7AI-(H2O)n; n = 1, 2) clusters in the gas phase and in water are presented. The effective fragment potential (EFP) is employed to model the surrounding water molecules. The AIMD simulations for 7AI-H2O and 7AI-(H2O)2 clusters show an asynchronous hydrogen transfer at t approximately 50 fs after the photoexcitation. While the ESHT mechanism for 7AI-H2O in water does not change appreciably compared with that in the gas phase, the AIMD simulations on 7AI-(H2O)2 in water solution exhibit two different mechanisms. Since the tautomer form is lower in energy compared to the normal form in the S1 state, 7AI and (H2O) n fragments separate from each other after the ESHT. With the use of the results of the AIMD trajectories, the minimum energy conical intersection point in the tautomer region has also been located.  相似文献

A supramolecular inclusion complex, [Zn(L1)(H2O)2(beta-CD)](ClO4)2.9.5 H2O (1) was synthesized and characterized structurally and its first-order active species for hydrolysis of esters, [Zn(L1)(H2O)(OH)(beta-CD)](ClO4) (2), was isolated (L1=4-(4'-tert-butylbenzyl)diethylenetriamine; beta-CD=beta-cyclodextrin). The apparent inclusion stability constant of the host and the guest measured in aqueous solution was (5.91+/-0.03)x10(3) for 1. The measured values of the first- and second-order pK(a) values of coordinated water molecules were 8.20+/-0.08 and 10.44+/-0.08, respectively, and were assigned to water molecules occupying the plane and remaining axial positions in a distorted trigonal bipyramid of the [Zn(L1)(H2O)2(beta-CD)]2+ sphere according to the structural analysis of [Zn(L2)(H2O)}2(mu-OH)](ClO4)3 (3) (L2=4-benzyldiethylenetriamine). p-Nitrophenyl acetate (pNA) hydrolysis catalyzed by 1 at pH 7.5-9.1 and 25.0+/-0.1 degrees C exhibited a first-order reaction with various concentrations of pNA and 1, but the pH profile did not indicate saturated kinetic behavior. Second-order rate constants of 0.59 and 24.0 M(-1) s(-1) were calculated for [Zn(L1)(H2O)(OH)(beta-CD)]+ and [Zn(L1)(OH)2(beta-CD)], respectively; the latter exhibited a potent catalytic activity relative to the reported mononuclear and polynuclear Zn(II) species.  相似文献
