The passive optical networks proposed by Marhic and Siegman to evaluate the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of a linear array or a pixellated image (parallel input) are redesigned for the discrete wavelet transform or the wavelet packet (WP) decomposition. Using only asymmetric optical couplers, with a suitable power coupling ratio, it is shown that it is possible to optically implement Mallat's pyramidal decomposition scheme with a compactly supported wavelet basis function. The case of a serial input has a larger number of potential applications to optical communications systems or optical computing, and simple passive optical networks are presented that evaluate the DFT or the wavelet transform of a stream of optical digits, by using only Mach-Zehnder interferometers with output asymmetric couplers. In particular, an all-optical implementation of the WP-division demultiplexer for a waveform coded transmission system is given. The proposed networks are full-wavelength demultiplexers, as they split the spectrum of the incoming signal into a set of closed frequency channels; the filters have identical bandwidth and span the whole input spectrum. Using the WP-decomposition method, different subband filtering schemes can be designed, fabricating trees of quadrature mirror filters with the fiber or the integrated optics technology.  相似文献

利用193 nm深紫外曝光的方法应用CMOS技术,在SOI片上加工制作了1×8阵列上下载微环滤波器,微环半径分别为21.0、20.5、20.0和19.5μm。通过测量直通端的透射光谱,在1 540~1 560 nm的波段上观测到微环阵列谐振波长的透射谱凹陷,对应的消光比均大于15dB,在谐振波长1559.5 nm处的消光比高达35 dB。在半径为20.5μm的微环下载端,测得的波长为1 542.6、1 546.7、1 551.0、1 555.2和1 559.3 nm的下载峰,对应的自由谱宽为4.2 nm。  相似文献

The performance of adiabatic 3-dB couplers and V-branches is reported. These devices are broadband and divide power equally. They have no observable polarization dependence. Typical excess losses relative to a straight waveguide is 0.1-0.2 dB for the 3-dB couplers and about 0.4 dB for the V-branches. Fiber to fiber insertion loss of 0.31 dB was measured for a 2.5-cm straight waveguide. The devices were used to fabricate transmission filters peaked at 1.55 μm and power combiners having two channels at 1.48 and 1.55 μm. The device fabrication was improved by use of a flowable top cladding layer containing boron and phosphorous which easily filled-in between closely spaced waveguides  相似文献

We integrated a wavelength-selective cross-connect, de-interleaver, interleaver, power combiner, and variable attenuators on one silica waveguide chip and a band demultiplexer, band multiplexer, and optical monitor on another. These two chips are used to create an eight-channel add-drop node that is expandable up to 80 channels with minimal traffic interruption by adding more of these chips.  相似文献

We present experimental results of an integrated 16-channel, 100-GHz-channel-spacing wavelength add-drop in silica. It consists of two interleave-chirped waveguide grating routers connected by an array of waveguides containing thermooptic phase shifters. The fully packaged device has 6.6-7.6-dB fiber-to-fiber insertion loss and a switching extinction ratio >27 dB (>33 dB for a single polarization) when used as an add-drop, It is compact, allowing for at least four such devices per 5-in-diameter wafer  相似文献

A novel wavelength-division-multiplexing add-drop module is proposed using free-space cascaded thin-film filters. The athermal design of the filters creates a natural curvature that is shown to compensate for diffraction and optical misalignment. We demonstrate an insertion loss of 1.1 dB for four cascaded filters.  相似文献

Grating couplers for efficient coupling between silicon sandwiched slot waveguides and standard singlemode fibres are demonstrated. Coupling efficiency up to 20% is experimentally measured for TM polarisation and a wavelength of 1550 nm. A 20 nm 1 dB bandwidth is also obtained. Higher coupling efficiency is expected for particular designs according to simulation results.  相似文献

This paper presents a full-wave analysis of coupling between rectangular waveguides through a cross-aperture. The rigorous mode-matching method is used to derive the generalized scattering matrix of a waveguide T-junction having a crossed waveguide as the side arm. Two three-port T-junctions are then cascaded together to form a number of cross-aperture couplers. The analysis method can handle both broad-wall and narrow-wall, both parallel and crossed coupling structures. Our numerical results for a variety of couplers are in good agreement with those obtained by Ansoft's HFSS  相似文献

It is shown that the broad-band coupling properties of narrow-wall short-slot directional couplers and hybrids are due to the effect of the evanescent TE30 mode in the coupling region. This causes a change to the effective phase length of the even-mode circuit, especially when a central tuning element is used. Using the results of a previous paper on the formation of an equivalent circuit from the generalized scattering matrix, an equivalent circuit for the even mode of the coupler is formed, clearly depicting the effect of the TE30 mode  相似文献

Under certain conditions, a resonance phenomenon can occur in waveguide grating structures. Such structures have multilayer configuration, the most basic of which is comprised of a substrate, a thin dielectric layer or semiconductor waveguide layer, and an additional transparent layer in which a grating is etched. When such a structure is illuminated with an incident light beam, part of the beam is directly transmitted and part is diffracted and subsequently trapped in the waveguide layer. Some of the trapped light is then rediffracted outwards, so that it interferes destructively with the transmitted part of the light beam. At a specific wavelength and angular orientation of the incident beam, the structure “resonates”; namely, complete interference occurs and no light is transmitted. This paper reviews previous investigations on the resonance phenomena and presents analytic and numerical models for evaluating the resonance as a function of the geometric and optical parameters of the structures and incident radiation  相似文献

对硅(Si)基波导光栅耦合器的设计与耦合性能进 行了研究。采用本征模展开法对光栅耦合器进行设计与 优化,通过实验测量了光栅的耦合性能,并对均匀光栅、自聚焦光栅和反射光栅等3种光栅 耦合器的耦合 性能进行了比较,耦合效率分别达到了达到47.86、56. 36和48.98%,自聚焦光栅可以有效改善光纤到 光纤的传输效果,耦合效率提高了8.5%。通过实验测量了基于耦合光 栅技术的Si基条形波导和槽型波导的 传输损耗,结果显示,条形波导和槽型波导的传输损耗分别为2.34d B/cm和6.31dB/mm。  相似文献

We have studied structures where a concentric ring with an index higher than that of the cladding index is added to a conventional fiber core. The structure supports at least one additional symmetric mode with substantial power in the ring, besides the normal mode in the core. Within certain designed parameter regimes, the propagation constants of the lowest two symmetric modes cross at a certain wavelength. This is equivalent to saying that the LP01 mode can change from having more power in core to having more power in ring at a certain wavelength or vice versa. At this resonance, each of the two modes has substantial power in the core and the ring. This resonant nature of the structure creates a strong wavelength dependent mode field for LP01 and LP02 modes near the resonance wavelength. The operation of two-guide couplers is re-examined to include the effects of cross power. Two two-guide coupler structures that operate as on-off switches are analyzed using both the exact eigenmodes of a slab model of the coupler and a coupled-mode theory that takes cross-power effects into account. The two coupler configurations analyzed are with the output guide on the same side as the input guide and on the side of the coupled guide. For the proper choice of the length of the coupler in the first case, the waveguide detuning can be adjusted so that ideal switching behavior can be achieved. For the second case, full on-off switching is not possible. Excellent agreement is found between results of the coupled-mode theory and exact slab analyses  相似文献

An analysis of a laterally symmetric parallel waveguide structure has been carried out by using symmetric and antisymmetric eigenmodes in the coupled mode equations. As opposed to modes of each individual guide, eigenmodes are orthogonal and therefore comply with coupled mode formalism. Of particular interest has been the popular configurationZ-cut LiNbO3with Wave propagation along the crystalY-axis. The theory shows that output versus voltage characteristics are nonperiodic in voltage, and furthermore, they are asymmetric if the eigenmodes are not equally excited. The uniform electrode coupler can easily be explained in terms of eigenmode coupling and interference.  相似文献

设计了一种结构紧凑、工作频带较宽、耦合平稳、高方向性的十字形多孔耦合的太赫兹波导定向耦合器。基于多孔耦合原理,利用HFSS软件对太赫兹波导定向耦合器进行了模型仿真和结构优化。仿真结果表明:在325~475 GHz带宽范围内,该多孔耦合太赫兹波导定向耦合器耦合度达到7.50.8 dB,隔离度达到30 dB,即方向性优于20 dB,各端口回波损耗小于-20 dB。通过对该波导定向耦合器进行高温高压模拟仿真,确定了使用负性光刻胶SU-8作为结构材料的可行性,提出应用MEMS工艺在硅衬底上进行加工,将牺牲层工艺应用到波导腔结构的制作中。利用光刻在直通波导和耦合波导公共宽壁上形成的十字形等间距排列耦合孔结构,可以实现较宽的带宽和良好的耦合平坦度。该方法提高了耦合孔尺寸和位置的精度,减小了反射损耗,为太赫兹波导结构的加工提供了新思路。  相似文献

The design of grating-assisted, channel waveguide codirectional couplers is demonstrated using the Gel'fand-Levitan-Marchenko inverse scattering method. Weighted coupling coefficients are computed from rational expression for the desired wavelength response. Approximate formulas that relate the waveguide and grating geometries to the computed coupling coefficients are derived. The technique is illustrated by designing a directional coupler with a third-order Butterworth filter characteristic and a 130 Å full-width-half-maximum bandwidth  相似文献

The operation principle of resonant channel add-drop filters based on degenerate symmetric and antisymmetric standing-wave modes has been described elsewhere using group theoretical arguments. In this paper, the analysis is carried out using coupling of modes in time. A possible implementation of such a filter is a four-port system utilizing a pair of identical single-mode standing wave resonators. The analysis allows a simple derivation of the constraints imposed on the design parameters in order to establish degeneracy. Numerical simulations of wave propagation through such a filter are also shown, as idealized by a two-dimensional geometry  相似文献

Design techniques for a new class of integrated monolithic high-permittivity ceramic waveguide filters are presented. These filters enable a size reduction of 50% compared to air-filled transverse electromagnetic filters with the same unloaded Q-factor. Designs for Chebyshev and asymmetric generalised Chebyshev filter and a diplexer are presented with experimental results for an 1800 MHz Chebyshev filter and a 1700 MHz generalised Chebyshev filter showing excellent agreement with theory.  相似文献
