Acrylonitrile reacts with aromatic aldehyde imines containing a hydroxy group in the β- or γ-position to give 70–85% of the corresponding 2-aryl-3-cyanoethyltetrahydro-1,3-oxazines or 2-aryl-3-cyanoethyl-1,3-oxazolidines, respectively. Metal β-diketonates react with sulfur dichloride to form sulfenyl chlorides irrespective of β-substituent. Bulky phenyl and tert-butyl groups do not prevent formation of fully substituted complexes. The possibility of preparing sulfenyl chloride derivatives of rhodium, ruthenium, and vanadium β-diketonates was demonstrated. A new procedure was suggested for preparing chlorosulfenyl-substituted β-diketonates. The energy of formation of an open-chain N-methyltrifluoromethanesulfonamide dimer stabilized by the N-H⋯O=S hydrogen bond is 20.1 kJ mol−1 (CH2Cl2). Micellar preconcentration of 1 : 2 associates of Bromophenol Blue with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide is proposed to improve the procedure for the spectrophotometric determination of cationic surfactants. The preconcentration procedure involves quantitative extraction by reversed micelles of Triton N-42 in decane followed by the decomposition of the micellar solution with chloroform. The loss of 10–7–10–5 M cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in 5–100-fold preconcentration was not supported by the added-found method (RSD = 3–5%). Complexation in a KF-SbF3-H2O system is studied in a range of molar ratios of fluorides KF : SbF3= (0.1–2) : 1 by calorimetric titration. The equilibrium formation constants of complexes KSb2F7, KSbF4, and K2SbF5 (5.8×105±800, 3.3×104±500, and 1.9×106± 950, respectively) and the changes in enthalpy (–31.75± 0.74, –28.15±0.44, and –25.5±0.64 J mol–1, respectively) and entropy (4±7, –8±5, and –35±9 J mol–1 K–1, respectively) are determined. Thiofluorescein was synthesized in a preparative yield by successive demethylation of 3,3′-dimethoxydiphenyl sulfide to 3,3′-dihydroxydiphenyl sulfide and condensation of the latter with phthalic anhydride in H2SO4.
