The magnetic moment reversal at each of the two inequivalent Nd sites in a single crystal of ferromagnetic Nd(2)Fe(14)B is probed by dichroic resonant diffraction of circularly polarized x rays. The results, supported by theory, show that the c-axis intrinsic magnetic stability of this superior permanent magnetic material arises predominantly at one of the Nd sites (g). The other site (f) undermines magnetic stability by favoring a magnetic moment orientation in the basal plane.  相似文献

We observe the emission of circularly polarized light after grazing scattering of fast ions at a magnetized Fe(110) surface. Changing the state of magnetization of the target affects the polarization of the emitted light due to capture of spin polarized electrons. Some aspects of atom-surface interaction and investigations of surface magnetism are discussed.  相似文献

Using the first-principles full potential linearized augmented plane wave method, the electronic structure of Sr(2-x)La(x)Fe(1+y/2)Mo(1-y/2)O6 (SLFMO) double-perovskite systems is investigated for x = 1/2 and 1 and for y = +1 and -1. Substituting Sr atoms by La atoms allows one to tune the electrons added into the minority spin band and enhances the half-metal feature--according to the rigid band shift model--even if the magnetization decreases with increasing La concentration. By taking into account the chemical disorder on the Fe and Mo sites, resulting from the introduction of La as shown experimentally, it is shown (i) that a supplemental magnetization reduction occurs because the magnetic moment on the Fe antisite is opposite to the one on the Fe regular sites and (ii) that the half-metal feature is preserved in SLFMO for x = 1/2 and 1 contrary to the case for SFMO. Finally, because surface or interface Fe deficiency should have a more limited impact on the spin polarization than for SFMO, SLFMO/SrTiO3 multilayers are investigated in order to confirm this prediction by determining the spin polarization at the interface, which is found to remain high.  相似文献

Resonant X-ray magnetic diffraction profiles were measured for an epitaxial Fe/Cu multilayer using circularly polarized X-rays near the Fe and Cu K-edges. Diffraction intensities were compared with those obtained from the theoretical and empirical models. It is found that the interface Fe moment is reduced to 70% of the inner-layer moment. Concerning the Cu layer, the observed energy dependence of the magnetic diffraction intensities is consistent with that derived from the first-principle band calculation, indicating that magnetic proximity effect in the Cu layer is confined within a few atomic layers near the interface.  相似文献

Using polarized and unpolarized neutron scattering, we show that interstitial Fe in superconducting Fe(1+y)Te(1-x)Se(x) induces a magnetic Friedel-like oscillation that diffracts at Q⊥=(1/2 0) and involves >50 neighboring Fe sites. The interstitial >2μ(B) moment is surrounded by compensating ferromagnetic four-spin clusters that may seed double stripe ordering in Fe(1+y)Te. A semimetallic five-band model with (1/2 1/2) Fermi surface nesting and fourfold symmetric superexchange between interstitial Fe and two in-plane nearest neighbors largely accounts for the observed diffraction.  相似文献

We demonstrate that optical pumping by circularly polarized light at the charge-transfer transition can induce spin and orbital polarizations in the strongly correlated Mott insulators R(2)CuO(4) (R=Pr, Nd, Sm) providing a means of ultrafast nonlinear manipulation of spin states on time scales of less than 150 fs. We propose a model which includes both orbital- and spin-related processes possessing different spectral and temporal properties. This allows us to model the optical response of antiferromagnetic Mott insulators to circularly polarized light and estimate the spin relaxation time as tau(s) approximately 30-50 fs.  相似文献

We introduce nuclear resonant magnetometry as a means to record the magnetization curve of isotopically enhanced regions of a sample. It is based on nuclear resonant scattering with circularly polarized synchrotron radiation and the use of a nuclear resonant reference sample. We apply this approach to study the interlayer coupling in Fe/Cr(100) multilayers and to obtain a layer-specific magnetization curve. Our measurements provide experimental evidence for the existence of a nontrivial interlayer-coupling angle in Fe/Cr/Fe.  相似文献

采用x射线粉末衍射方法测量了不同温度下R(Fe,Mo)12化合物(R=Nd,Y,D y)的晶格常数,对沿不同轴向的热膨胀反常程度进行了计算.分析认为R(Fe,Mo)12化合物热膨胀反常主要取决于Fe-Fe相互作用,根据Nd(Fe,Mo)12的结构参 数,不仅较短的Fe-Fe键负相互作用对热膨胀反常有贡献,8j-8j等较强的Fe-Fe正相互作用 也有很大贡献.另外还讨论了第三元素Mo的替代作用影响热膨胀反常的机理. 关键词: x射线衍射 R(Fe 12化合物')" href="#">Mo)12化合物 热膨胀反常  相似文献

We investigated the magnetic nature of Fe(1/4)TaS2 using x-ray absorption spectroscopy, photoemission spectroscopy, and first principles band calculations. The results show a large unquenched orbital magnetic moment (~1.0 μ(B)/Fe) at intercalated Fe sites, resulting in a gigantic magnetic anisotropy (H(A)?60 T). The magnetic coupling is well understood in terms of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction, suggesting a novel RKKY ferromagnet with Ising-type spin states. We also found that this indirect exchange coupling between the neighboring Fe spins is ferromagnetic and maximized at the Fe-Fe distance of 2×2 superstructure.  相似文献

We investigated the emission wavelength dependence of the lasing polarization in a (1 1 0)-oriented vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) with GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells under optical spin injection at room temperature. Lasing was observed in the one circularly polarized mode over a wide wavelength range from 838 to 857 nm, in which a degree of circular polarization higher than 0.8 was maintained. The optical gain spectrum that contributed to the circularly polarized lasing is discussed based on the optical selection rules and the measured polarization-resolved photoluminescence spectra of the active layers.  相似文献

The effect of structure on the magnetism of iron monolayers (MLs) on molybdenum is investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) with norm conserving pseudopotentials and a plane wave basis, under the local spin density approximation (LSDA). Relaxation of 5 and 7 ML of Mo resulted in a contraction of 11.3% and 11.7%, respectively, for the top Mo–Mo interlayer spacing in close agreement with experimental results. In the case of one Fe overlayer, the top Fe–Mo interlayer spacing contracted by 15.8% for a ferromagnetic (FM) p(1×1) and 20.6% for an antiferromagnetic (AF) c(2×2) configuration. The magnetic moment of the surface (Fe) layer is enhanced from its theoretically calculated bulk value. Total energy calculations show that the AF c(2×2) is the stable state with a magnetic moment of 2.53 μB. The surface Fe atoms are AF coupled with each other and with the Mo layers below, showing layered AF coupling. The present study demonstrates the reliability of the pseudopotential approach under LSDA with core corrections included to the calculation of magnetic properties of combined transition metal systems.  相似文献

The non-collinear magnetic moment distribution at the Cr/Fe(110) interface of an Fe(110) thin film covered by a Cr monolayer is revealed by means of periodic Anderson model calculations. It is shown that the Cr surface has two magnetically non-equivalent sites with magnetic moments canted to each other. The Fe atoms in the subsurface monolayer also acquire two magnetically non-equivalent sites with magnetic moments canted to each other. Non-collinearity is shown to be a ground state for the Cr/Fe(110) multilayer.  相似文献

The newly developed full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (LAPW) and local orbitals (lo) based on standard APW methods are briefly introduced, and the structure and magnetic properties of R(Fe, Si)12 compounds (R = Y, Nd) are calculated using the method. The distribution of Si at different sites is analyzed based on total energy of one crystal unit with structure having been optimized. The characters of magnetic moments, total density of states (TDOS) and partial density of states (PDOS) for different crystal sites Si occupies are obtained and analyzed. The results show that the total magnetic moments of RFe10Si2 (R = Y, Nd) are larger than those of RFe10M2 (M = Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Mo and W) and the hybridization mechanism is seen as follows. Si(8j) reduce the magnetic moments of Fe at three sites, however, Si(8f) mainly reduce the magnetic moments of Fe(8i) and Fe(8j) atoms. The Curie temperature is markedly enhanced by the introduction of Si atoms according to spin fluctuation of DOS at Fermi level.  相似文献

Novel compounds containing twoS=1/2 coupled spin centers (Mo(V) and low spin Fe(III) have been investigated in detail by X- and Q-band EPR spectroscopy, spectral simulation and molecular modelling calculations. For one system with a Mo?Fe distance of ≈9.4 Å the dominant dipolar coupling allows distinction among structures that are consistent with molecular modelling calculations. For the second system with a Mo?Fe of ≈ 7.9 Å the exchange interaction is dominant (0.5 <J < 3.0 GHz). These coupled systems are preliminary benchmarks for using EPR to investigate the Mo?Fe interaction in sulfite oxidase.  相似文献

Circularly polarized light exerts torque on birefringent objects. In the case of axially symmetric particles, however, the moment of radiation force balances the direct optical torque. This explains the observation that radial liquid-crystal droplets, in contrast to planar droplets, do not spin in circularly polarized light. The conclusion is in agreement with considerations based on the angular momentum conservation of light [Phys. Rev. Lett.96, 163905 (2006)].  相似文献

We present measurements of the magnetic circular dichroism in x-ray resonant emission in the perpendicular geometry (circularly polarized x rays at normal incidence to the magnetization) for L(2,3) the absorption region in Fe, Co, and Ni metal. The results show that spin-dependent screening of the core hole takes place within the scattering time scale, which is supported by the absence of the effect in ionic systems. This allows an assessment of the time scale for the screening process (up to a few femtoseconds). The process is almost complete within the scattering time for Fe and Co, but this is not the case for the narrow band metal Ni which shows a much slower dynamics.  相似文献

We demonstrate an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on GaAs pumped with linearly polarized and circularly polarized light and show that the relative OPO thresholds agree with theoretical expectations. For the circularly polarized pump, the threshold was as low as for the [111]-linearly polarized pump case. The pump was also passed through a Lyot depolarizer to produce pseudo-depolarized light, and the OPO threshold in this case was only 22% higher than that for [001]-linearly polarized pump.  相似文献

利用分子束外延薄膜生长技术,制备了200 (A)V/4 (A) Fe/900 V/MgO(100)薄膜样品,通过X射线反射和极化中子反射两种测量手段获得了薄膜的表面、界面及各层膜厚的相关结构信息.中子反射结果表明,Fe原子磁矩在室温下约为1.0±0.1μB,随着温度的降低,Fe原子磁矩增加,在10 K时达到1.5±0.1μB.利用指数定律拟合磁矩随温度的变化情况,外推得出4(A)铁薄膜样品的居里温度约为310±30 K.
Abstract:
Uhrathin Fe film 200 (A)V/4 (A)Fe/900 (A)V/MgO(100) has been prepared by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The structure parameters, such as the surface and interface roughness and the thickness of each layer, were obtained by X-ray and neutron reflectivity measurement. The magnetic properties of the thin Fe layer were investigated by polarized neutron reflectometry at different temperature. The result shows that the magnetic moment of an Fe atom is about 1.0 ± 0.1 μB at room temperature and increases to 1.5 ±0.1 μBat 10 K. The Curie temperature of the thin Fe film is estimated to be 310 ± 30 K.  相似文献
