Measurements of the forward-backward production asymmetry of heavy quarks in Z decays provide a precise determination of . The asymmetries are sensitive to QCD effects, in particular hard gluon radiation. In this paper QCD corrections for and are discussed. The interplay between the experimental techniques used to measure the asymmetries and the QCD effects is investigated using simulated events. A procedure to estimate the correction needed for experimental measurements is proposed, and some specific examples are given. Received: 26 February 1998 / Published online: 2 June 1998  相似文献

We present an improved direct measurement of the parity-violation parameter A(b) in the Z boson-b-quark coupling using a self-calibrating track-charge technique applied to a sample enriched in Z-->bb events via the topological reconstruction of the B hadron mass. Manipulation of the Stanford Linear Collider electron-beam polarization permits the measurement of A(b) to be made independently of other Z-pole coupling parameters. From the 1996-1998 sample of 400,000 hadronic Z decays, produced with an average beam polarization of 73.4%, we find A(b)=0.906+/-0.022(stat)+/-0.023(syst).  相似文献

A novel high precision method measures the b-quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Z pole on a sample of 3,560,890 hadronic events collected with the DELPHI detector in 1992 to 2000. An enhanced impact parameter tag provides a high purity b sample. For event hemispheres with a reconstructed secondary vertex the charge of the corresponding quark or anti-quark is determined using a neural network which combines in an optimal way the full available charge information from the vertex charge, the jet charge and from identified leptons and hadrons. The probability of correctly identifying b-quarks and anti-quarks is measured on the data themselves comparing the rates of double hemisphere tagged like-sign and unlike-sign events. The b-quark forward-backward asymmetry is determined from the differential asymmetry, taking small corrections due to hemisphere correlations and background contributions into account. The results for different centre-of-mass energies are: .Combining these results yields the b-quark pole asymmetry Received: 22 July 2004, Revised: 9 December 2004, Published online: 4 February 2005  相似文献

A measurement of the forward–backward asymmetry of and on the Z resonance is performed using about 3.5 million hadronic Z decays collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP in the years 1992 to 1995. The heavy quark is tagged by the exclusive reconstruction of several D meson decay modes. The forward–backward asymmetries for c andb quarks at the Z resonance are determined to be: The combination of these results leads to an effective electroweak mixing angle of: Received: 9 February 1999 / Revised version: 26 April 1999 / Published online: 3 August 1999  相似文献

We present final measurements of the Z boson-lepton coupling asymmetry parameters A(e), A(mu), and A(tau) with the complete sample of polarized Z bosons collected by the SLD detector at the SLAC Linear Collider. From the left-right production and decay polar angle asymmetries in leptonic Z decays we measure A(e) = 0.1544+/-0.0060, A(mu) = 0.142+/-0.015, and A(tau) = 0.136+/-0.015. Combined with our left-right asymmetry measured from hadronic decays, we find A(e) = 0.1516+/-0.0021. Assuming lepton universality, we obtain a combined effective weak mixing angle of sin (2)theta(eff)(W) = 0.230 98+/-0.000 26.  相似文献

The observation of two charged bottomonium-like structures Z b (10610) and Z b (10650) has stimulated extensive studies of the properties of Z b (10610) and Z b (10650). In this talk, we briefly introduce the research status of Z b (10610) and Z b (10650) combined with our theoretical progress.  相似文献

We present the first direct measurement of A(s), the parity-violating coupling of the Z0 boson to the strange quark, using approximately 550 000 e(+)e(-)-->Z0-->hadrons events recorded by the SLC Large Detector with a polarized e(-) beam. We tagged Z0-->s&smacr; events by the absence of B or D hadrons and the presence in each hemisphere of a high momentum K+/- or K(0)(s). Fitting the polar angle distributions of the strangeness-signed thrust axis gave A(s) = 0.895+/-0.066(stat)+/-0.062(syst). The analyzing power and uu+d&dmacr; background were constrained using the data, greatly reducing any model dependence.  相似文献

Strong magnetic poles at characteristic rectangular defects have been observed using a magnetic force microscope on a MnAs(  1 0 0) thin film with the thickness of 30 nm. The MnAs thin film was epitaxially grown on a GaAs(0 0 1) substrate. The magnetic poles were in one-arranging direction, being independent of the magnetization direction of the film. The poles were pinned at the edges of the rectangular defects until just below the Curie temperature, and formed a stable magnetic-field loop on the MnAs surface. The stability of the magnetic pole pinning shows the distinctive feature of the magnetic domain structure on the surface with a strong anisotropy, which was built in the heterostructure of MnAs and GaAs.  相似文献

The cross-section for the production of quarks ine + e annihilation, that proves to be at a level of for is calculated within the frames of the QCD perturbation theory. The cross sections for the associated production of 1S-and 2S-wave states ofB c-meson in the reaction were calculated in the nonrelativistic model of a heavy quarkonium. The number of bc -hyperons to be expected at LEP is estimated on the basis of the assumption on quark-hadron duality.  相似文献

We consider the effects of a number of models with one extra Z, with enhanced couplings to quarks, in the final hadronic channels at LEP2. We show that, for a number of representative cases, visible effects could be produced even for very low values of the lepton couplings, much smaller than the existing LEP1/SLC and the future LEP2 (lepton channel) bounds.  相似文献

We use our latest dispersive analysis of ππ scattering data and the very recent K(?4) experimental results to obtain the mass, width, and couplings of the two lightest scalar-isoscalar resonances. These parameters are defined from their associated poles in the complex plane. The analytic continuation to the complex plane is made in a model-independent way by means of once- and twice-subtracted dispersion relations for the partial waves, without any other theoretical assumption. We find the f(0)(600) pole at (457(-13))+14))-i(279(-7)(+11)) MeV and that of the f(0)(980) at (996 ± 7)-i(25(-6)(+10)) MeV, whereas their respective couplings to two pions are 3.59(-0.13)(+0.11) and 2.3 ± 0.2 GeV.  相似文献

Using 116.1 fb(-1) of data collected by the BABAR detector, we present an analysis of xi(c)(0) production in B decays and from the cc continuum, with the xi(c)(0) decaying into omega- K+ and xi- pi+ final states. We measure the ratio of branching fractions B(xi(c)(0) --> omega- K+)/B(xi(c)(0) --> xi- pi+) spectrum is measured on and 40 MeV below the upsilon(4S) resonance. From these spectra the branching fraction product B(B --> xi(c)(0)X) x B(xi(c)(0) --> xi- pi+) is measured to be (2.11 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.25) x 10(-4), and the cross-section product sigma(e+ e- --> xi(c)(0)X) x B(xi(c)(0) --> xi- pi+) from the continuum is measured to be (388 +/- 39 +/- 41) fb at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.  相似文献

We present results on time-dependent CP asymmetries in neutral B decays to several CP eigenstates. The measurements use a data sample of about 227 x 10(6) upsilon(4S) --> BB decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. The amplitude of the CPasymmetry, sin2beta in the standard model, is derived from decay-time distributions from events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in a final state containing a charmonium meson and the other B meson is determined to be either a B0 or B0 from its decay products. We measure sin2beta = 0.722 +/- 0.040(stat) +/- 0.023(syst) in agreement with the standard model expectation.  相似文献

The CLEO experiment at the CESR collider has used 13.7 fb(-1) of data to search for the production of the Omega(0)(c) (css ground state) in e(+)e(-) collisions at square root of (s) approximately 10.6 GeV. The modes used to study the Omega(0)(c) are Omega(-)pi(+), Omega(-)pi(+)pi(0), Xi-K-pi(+)pi(+), Xi0K-pi(+), and Omega(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-). We observe a signal of 40.4+/-9.0(stat) events at a mass of 2694.6+/-2.6(stat)+/-1.9(syst) MeV/c(2), for all modes combined.  相似文献

We present an update with increased statistics to our published analysis of hadronic and leptonic cross sections and of the leptonic forward-backward asymmetries ine + e collisions. The published results were based on a total 454 000 hadronic and 58 000 leptonic events. This analysis adds 733 000 hadronic and 88 000 leptonic events recorded at theZ 0 peak in 1992 by the OPAL experiment at LEP. A model independent analysis ofZ 0 parameters based on an extension of the improved Born approximation leads to tests of lepton universality and gives an interpretation of the results within the Standard Model framework. We also present a model independent test for new physics.  相似文献

The Z0 boson can have a sizeable branching ratio into a pair of neutralinos (the fermionic superpartners of the neutral gauge and Higgs bosons). All the subsequent decays of the heavier neutralinos lead to very distinctive signatures in e+e collisions at the Z0 pole. This may even be an efficient way to produce the Higgs boson. We study the various branching ratios as functions of the parameters of the underlying supersymmetric theory, making no ad hoc assumptions on the actual composition of the physical neutralino states.  相似文献
