Representations for the solution of the Zakai equation in terms of multiple Stratonovich integrals are derived. A new semigroup (the Feynman-Stratonovich semigroup) associated with the Zakai equation is introduced and using the relationship between multiple Stratonovich integrals and iterated Stratonovich integrals, a representation for the unnormalized conditional density,u(t,x), solely in terms of the initial density and the semigroup, is obtained. In addition, a Fourier seriestype representation foru(t,x) is given, where the coefficients in this representation uniquely solve an infinite system of partial differential equations. This representation is then used to obtain approximations foru(t,x). An explicit error bound for this approximation, which is of the same order as for the case of multiple Wiener integral representations, is obtained. We present a monotone iterative technique for the computation of a solution of a Riccati-type equation relevant to the theory of differential games. For this purpose, we show that the Kleinman algorithm for Riccati equation computations converges under extremely general conditions. The research reported in this paper was made possible in part through the Division of Engineering and Applied Physics, Harvard University, by the US Office of Naval Research, Joint Electronics Program, Contract No. N00014-75-C-0648, and by the National Science Foundation, Grant No. GK-31511.  相似文献

An interacting system ofn stochastic differential equations taking values in the dual of a countable Hilbertian nuclear space is considered. The limit (in probability) of the sequence of empirical measures determined by the above systems asn tends to is identified with the law of the unique solution of the McKean-Vlasov equation. An application of our result to interacting neurons is briefly discussed. The propagation of chaos result obtained in this paper is shown to contain and improve the well-known finite-dimensional results. This research was supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Contract No. F49620-85C-0144. A recursive stochastic integral equation for the detection of counting processes is derived from a previously known formula [5] of the likelihood ratio. This is done quite simply by using a result due to Doléans-Dade [4] on the solution of stochastic integral equations.Research sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, AFSC, USAF, under Grant no. A theory of Hilbert-space-valued traces and multiple integration is developed for kernels inL 2([0, 1]p × Θ). The multiple Ogawa and the multiple Stratonovich integrals for such kernels are introduced and sufficient conditions for their existence are obtained. The derivation of the Hu-Meyer formula connecting the multiple Ogawa and the multiple Stratonovich integrals requires the introduction of traces of random kernels. Such a derivation is obtained under appropriate conditions. The rational iterations obtained from certain Padé approximations associated with computing the matrix sign function are shown to be equivalent to iterations involving the hyperbolic tangent and its inverse. Using this equivalent formulation many results about these Padé iterations, such as global convergence, the semi-group property under composition, and explicit partial fraction decompositions can be obtained easily. In the second part of the paper it is shown that the behavior of points under the Padé iterations can be expressed, via the Cayley transform, as the combined result of a completely regular iteration and a chaotic iteration. These two iterations are decoupled, with the chaotic iteration taking the form of a multiplicative linear congruential random number generator where the multiplier is equal to the order of the Padé approximation. This research was supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. ECS-9120643, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant no. This series of papers addresses three interrelated problems: the solution of a variational minimization problem, the solution of integral equations, and the solution of an initial-valued system of integro-differential equations. It will be shown that a large class of minimization problems requires the solution of linear Fredholm integral equations. It has also been shown that the solution of a linear Fredholm integral equation is identical to the solution of a Cauchy system. In this paper, we bypass the Fredholm integral equations and show that the minimization problem directly implies a solution of a Cauchy system. This first paper in the series looks only at quadratic functionals and scalar functions. This research was sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Air Force Systems Command, USAF, under Grant No. AFOSR-77-3383.  相似文献

Motivated by applications to neurophysiological problems, various authors have studied diffusion processes in duals of countably Hilbertian nuclear spaces governed by stochastic differential equations. In these models the diffusion coefficients describe the random stimuli received by spatially extended neurons. In this paper we present a large deviation principle for such processes when the diffusion terms tend to zero in terms of a small parameter. The lower bounds are established by making use of the Girsanov formula in abstract Wiener space. The upper bounds are obtained by Gaussian approximation of the diffusion processes and by taking advantage of the nuclear structure of the state space to pass from compact sets to closed sets. This research was partially supported by the National Science Foundation and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Grant No. F49620-92-J-0154 and the Army Research Office Grant No. DAAL03-92-G-0008.  相似文献

Summary We consider a class of infinite delay equations of neutral type which includes Volterrra type integral und integrodifferential equations. Using abstract approximation results (cf. Trotter-Kato-type) for strongly continuous semigroups we develop an approximation scheme which is based on approximation of the system state by Laguerre (and Legendre) polynomials. Numerical examples demonstrate the feasibility of the scheme and show infinite order convergence for smooth data.Supported in part by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Contracts AFORS-84-0398 and AFORS-85-0303 and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under NASA Grant NAG-1-517 and by NSF under Grant UINT-8521208Supported in part by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Contract AFORS-84-0398 and in part by the Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung, Austria, under project No. S3206  相似文献

A general procedure is presented for numerically solving linear Fredholm integral equations of the first kind. The approximate solution is expressed as a continuous piecewise linear (spline) function. The method involves collocation followed by the solution of an appropriately scaled stabilized linear algebraic system. The procedure may be used iteratively to improve the accuracy of the approximate solution. Several numerical examples are given.Supported in part by the Office of Naval Research under Contract No. NR 044-457.Supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. GJ-31827.  相似文献

Terminal constraint optimal control problems with unbounded control operators are considered. It is shown that the optimal solutions can be represented in a feedback form via a solution of an appropriate Riccati equation. In particular, it is proved that, for systems described by partial differential equations with infinite speed of propagation, boundary exact null controllability can be realized in feedback form. This work was partially supported by the National Science Foundation, Grant No. DMS-89-02811, and by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Grant No. AFOSR-89-0511 DEF.  相似文献

This paper studies strong stability of the class of strongly continuous Hilbert space semigroups which are quasi-affine transforms of contraction semigroups. Sufficient conditions for such a semigroup to be approximately strong stable are given. Applications to the stabilizability problem of Hilbert space semigroups, using a feedback involving a solution of the steady-state Riccati equation, are made. Our key tool is the generalization of the LaSalle invariance principle by Hale. This research was supported by the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Directorate of Mathematical and Information Sciences, under Grant No. AFOSR-79-0053D.  相似文献

Stochastic control problems for controlled Markov processes models with an infinite planning horizon are considered, under some non-standard cost criteria. The classical discounted and average cost criteria can be viewed as complementary, in the sense that the former captures the short-time and the latter the long-time performance of the system. Thus, we study a cost criterion obtained as weighted combinations of these criteria, extending to a general state and control space framework several recent results by Feinberg and Shwartz, and by Krass et al. In addition, a functional characterization is given for overtaking optimal policies, for problems with countable state spaces and compact control spaces; our approach is based on qualitative properties of the optimality equation for problems with an average cost criterion.Research partially supported by the Engineering Foundation under grant RI-A-93-10, in part by the National Science Foundation under grant NSF-INT 9201430, and in part by a grant from the AT&T Foundation.Research partially supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant F49620-92-J-0045, and in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant CDR-8803012.  相似文献

Summary We consider the stationary Navier-Stokes equations, written in terms of the primitive variables, in the case where both the partial differential equations and boundary conditions are inhomogeneous. Under certain conditions on the data, the existence and uniqueness of the solution of a weak formulation of the equations can be guaranteed. A conforming finite element method is presented and optimal estimates for the error of the approximate solution are proved. In addition, the convergence properties of iterative methods for the solution of the discrete nonlinear algebraic systems resulting from the finite element algorithm are given. Numerical examples, using an efficient choice of finite element spaces, are also provided.Supported, in part, by the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research under Grant No. AF-AFOSR-80-0083Supported, in part, by the same agency under Grant No. AF-AFOSR-80-0176-A.
