Adam and Delbrück argued that the dimensionality of the diffusion space determines the average lifetime of a diffusing particle confined to a region with a central trap. Doubts have often been aired as to whether their calculation is relevant to real biological systems, where the number of traps is usually much larger than unity; or whether the rate enhancement is merely a manifestation of an increase in the concentration of the traps; or whether the diverse multi-trap versions of their expression for the mean lifetime in two dimensions are trustworthy. These issues are addressed, and the long-standing problem of finding the low-density limit of trapping time in two dimensions solved, by examining previous treatments of the problem, and by carrying out simulations of two-dimensional systems in which the particles undergo a Pearsonian random walk, and the traps are distributed randomly or on a square lattice. The mean lifetimes are found to be different in the two situations, and it is concluded that the neglect of this aspect lies at the root of the conflict between some of the existing expressions for the mean lifetime. Relations expressing the mean lifetime as a function of the concentration of the traps are presented together with a discussion of their applicability.  相似文献

Vapor–liquid equilibrium data for the binary systems of carbon monoxide (CO) + diethyl carbonate (DEC) and carbon monoxide + ethyl acetate (EA) were measured at temperatures of 293.2 K, 313.2 K and 333.2 K and the elevated pressures up to 12.00 MPa. The measurements were carried out in a cylindrical autoclave with a moveable piston and an observation window. The experimental data were correlated using the Peng–Robisom (PR) equation of state (EOS) and Peng–Robinson–Stryjek–Vera (PRSV) equation of state with the two-parameter van der Waals II or Panagiotopoulos–Reid mixing rule. The interaction parameters were obtained while correlating. The comparison between calculation results and experimental data indicated that the method of PRSV equation of state with van der Waals II produced the better correlated results.  相似文献

A rapid and sensitive reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP–HPLC) method with ultra-violet (UV) detection for a routine control of hydrochlorothiazide and captopril in tablets was developed. The chromatographic system Hewlet Packard 1100 consisted of a HP 1100 pump, HP 1100 UV–VIS detector and HP ChemStation integrator. The samples were introduced through a Rheodyne injector valve with a 20-L sample loop. The isocratic system consisted of a Beckman Ultrasphere ODS 4.6 mm x 15 cm, 5-m-particle column and a mobile phase containing methanol/water (45:55 v/v). The pH of the mobile phase was adjusted to 3.8 with 85% ortophosphoric acid. Quantitation was accomplished using the internal standard method. At the selected conditions, the other excipients of the tablets did not interfere in the assay of active substances. The developed RP–HPLC method was validated, so linearity, precision, accuracy, robustness, limit of quantitation and limit of detection were investigated. For the robustness test, three factors were considered: the composition of the mobile phase , the pH of the mobile phase, and temperature. With the aid of response surface metodology (RSM), it was possible to precisely define the robustness of the method.  相似文献

A study has been conducted using abrasively modified basal and edge-plane graphite, carbon-paste, and carbon–epoxy electrodes to create gold–carbon composite electrodes. Using either nano or micro-sized gold particles their suitability for use in detecting arsenic(III) is assessed. It was found that gold arrays prepared from micron-sized particles gave the best performance for arsenic detection. In particular micron arrays produced in carbon-paste electrodes with an easily renewable surface work well for detection of arsenic, producing a detection limit of 5(±2)×10–9 mol L–1, with a high sensitivity of 10(±0.1) A mol–1 L.  相似文献

Many environmental mutagens, including polyaromatic compounds are present in surface waters, often in complex mixtures and at low concentrations. The present study provides and applies a novel, integrated approach to isolate polyaromatic mutagens in river water using a sample from the River Elbe. The sample was taken downstream of industrial discharges using blue rayon (BR) as a passive sampler that selectively adsorbs polyaromatic compounds and was subjected to effect-directed fractionation in order to characterise the compounds causing the detected effect(s). The procedure relies on three complementary fractionation steps, the Ames fluctuation assay with strains TA98, YG1024 and YG1041 with and without S9 activation and analytical screening. Several mutagenic fractions were isolated by combining mutagenicity testing with fractionation. The enhanced mutagenicity in the nitroreductase and/or O-acetyltransferase overexpressing strains YG1024 and YG1041 strains suggested amino- and/or nitro-compounds causing mutagenicity in several fractions. Analytical screening of mutagenic fractions with LC-HRMS/MS provided a list of molecular formulas typically containing one to ten nitrogen and at least two oxygen atoms supporting the presence of amino and nitro-compounds in the mutagenic fractions.

Kinetic analysis of the crystallization process in Bi4(As2S3)96 and Bi6(As2S3)94 glasses was performed based on DSC curves recorded under non-isothermal measurement conditions. Samples were thermally treated at different heating rates in the temperature range 300?C770?K. The activation energy of crystallization E and the pre-exponential factor K 0 are determined by the Kissinger method and the characteristic crystallization parameters m and n of investigated glasses by the Matusita method. For both crystallization processes the glass with 4 at.% of Bi is characterized by the mechanism of volume nucleation, which is manifested in the form of two-dimensional growth at the first crystallization process, and as three-dimensional at the second one. On the other hand, in the sample with 6 at.% Bi, the average value of the parameter m is close to one, which indicates one-dimensional crystal growth. Compatibility of the values of the parameters m and n suggests that this sample has a large number of crystallization centers, which do not increase significantly during the thermal treatment.  相似文献

Two methods were developed for the quantitative analysis of phenolic acids in herb extracts. The methods were based on liquid chromatography–time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC–TOFMS) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The methods were compared in terms of their linearity, repeatability, selectivity, sensitivity and the speed of the analysis. The sensitivity was good for both methods, with limits of detection of <80 ng/ml for most of the compounds. The relative standard deviations (RSD) of the peak areas were on average 7.2% for the LC–TOFMS method and 1.4% for the GC–MS method. Both methods were found to be suitable for the determination of the target analytes, although GC–MS was better suited to the quantitative determination of compounds present at low concentrations.  相似文献

Data precision in the analysis by purge-and-trap coupled on-line to gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (P&T-GC–MS) of honey volatiles has been studied by statistical analysis. The contribution of non-random factors to dispersion of quantitative results was proven by comparing several statistical parameters (correlation coefficients, principal component analysis (PCA) eigenvalues and loadings) from both experimental and simulated data. PCA was also useful for grouping volatiles with similar dispersion behaviour; these groups being generally related to compounds with common properties or structural features. The use of area ratios improves data precision for compounds within the same group. Results from this study could be used for a better selection of internal standards in quantitative analysis of volatiles by P&T-GC–MS.  相似文献

For the first time, an integrated procedure for a quantitative multiresidue analysis of dissolved and particulate illicit drug target residues was developed and validated in three different wastewater matrices. The procedure consists of a comprehensive sample enrichment, fractionation and cleanup followed by the determination of target analytes by triple quadrupole liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry in both positive and negative ionisation polarities. The enrichment of illicit drugs from suspended solids and aqueous samples was performed using pressurised liquid extraction and solid phase extraction (SPE), respectively. The performance of different SPE cartridges was investigated in order to optimise the overall recovery and to reduce the matrix effects. The optimal results were obtained by combining mixed cation exchange (Oasis MCX) cartridges for fractionated enrichment, weak anion exchange for an additional extract cleanup and optimised chromatographic separation to minimise the impact from co-extracted interferences. The method was applied for the analysis of raw wastewater (RW), activated sludge (AS) and secondary effluent (SE) samples collected at four different wastewater treatment plants. The average contributions of the particulate drugs in the RW and AS were 1–28 and 23–65 %, respectively. This suggested that the total mass loads of some drugs might be underestimated by neglecting the particulate fraction. Moreover, relatively high distribution coefficients, determined for 2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidine (RW?=?1211 L/kg) and 11-hydroxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (RW?=?1,786 L/kg) implied that adsorption might play a significant role in their overall removal during wastewater treatment.

The performance of four types of - and X-ray radiation detectors for environmental applications was evaluated in the 10–450 keV energy range. Two cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe) room temperature semiconductor detectors were evaluated along with a cryogenically cooled semiconductor detector and two different types of scintillation detectors. The energy resolution, absolute peak detection efficiency and peak-to-background ratio of each of the detectors were calculated and intercompared. The advantages and disadvantages of environmental applications of each detector, along with their performance results, are summarized.  相似文献

Rapid, accurate, and automatic quantitation of two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance(2D-NMR) data is a challenging problem. Recently, a Bayesian information criterion based subband Steiglitz–McBride algorithm has been shown to exhibit superior performance on all three fronts when applied to the quantitation of one-dimensional NMR free induction decay data. In this paper, we demonstrate that the 2D Steiglitz–McBride algorithm, in conjunction with 2D subband decomposition and the 2D Bayesian information criterion, also achieves excellent results for 2D-NMR data in terms of speed, accuracy, and automation—especially when compared in these respects to the previously published analysis techniques for 2D-NMR data.  相似文献

α-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) is a highly heterogeneous protein that presents a vast number of isoforms (molecules of the protein differing in its peptidic and/or glycosidic moieties). In the last years, several authors have studied the potential use of AGP as a cancer biomarker. These studies focus on the correlation of different features of AGP structure (i.e. fucosylation, antennarity) with cancer or on the total protein blood concentration. In this study, the potential of CZE-UV and CZE-ESI-MS analysis of intact AGP isoforms to study the correlation of this protein with bladder cancer is shown. Samples from 16 individuals (eight healthy, eight bladder cancer) were analyzed and characterized in great detail including data on intact protein isoforms and on released glycans. The analytical data were evaluated employing different statistical techniques (ANOVA; principal component analysis, PCA; linear discriminant analysis; and partial least squares-discriminant analysis). Statistical differences between the two groups of study were observed. The best results were obtained by linear discriminant analysis of the CZE-ESI-MS data for intact AGP isoforms (93.75% of correct classification). Due to MS characterization, it can be observed that differences between the samples are mainly due to higher abundance of AGP isoforms containing tri- and tetra-antennary fucosylated oligosaccharides in cancer patients. The results show the great potential of CE-MS in combination with advanced data processing for the use of intact protein isoforms as disease biomarkers.  相似文献

An integrated procedure using mass spectrometry and molecular biology for determination of estrogenicity in natural waters and sediments is reported. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) and pressurized-liquid extraction (PLE), respectively, were used for isolation of endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDC) from surface waters and sediments, followed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry using an electrospray interface (LC–ESI-MS). Twenty seven EDC were determined: non-ionic surfactants (nonylphenol ethoxylate), alkylphenols (e.g. nonylphenol and octylphenol), bisphenol A, phthalates, and natural and synthetic steroid sex hormones. Limits of detection varied from 0.02 to 0.22 g L–1 and from 1 to 10 g kg–1 in water and sediments, respectively. Recoveries ranged from 65 to 125% and 73 to 97% for waters and sediments, respectively. In addition to LC–ESI-MS determination, extracts obtained by SPE and PLE were analyzed by the recombinant yeast assay (RYA) to assess total estrogenic activity. This bioassay detects natural estrogens and xenoestrogens, producing a quantitative measurement of EDC irrespective of the identity of the chemical responsible for the activity. As a novelty, a relative estrogenicity factor was determined for 19 analytes with EC 50 values ranging from 10–10 to 10–9 mol L–1 for synthetic estrogens, from 10–7 to 10–5 mol L–1 for alkylphenol derivatives, and from 10–5 to 10–4 mol L–1 for phthalates and benzothiazoles. By use of this integrated chemical–ecotoxicological approach good correlation was usually established between chemical composition and estrogenic effects for surface water and sediment samples from Portugal. Estrogenic activity observed was mainly attributed to the presence of nonylphenolic compounds (with concentrations of NP ranging from 0.1 up to 44 g L–1 in waters and up to 1172 g kg–1 in sediments), and to the sporadic presence of estrogens, detected at ng L–1 levels.  相似文献

A rapid, simple, and efficient method for the fast determination of multiple phytohormones was developed in this work, based on single-drop liquid-liquid-liquid microextraction (SD-LLLME) combined with direct analysis in real-time mass spectrometry (DART-MS). Six phytohormones--indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), jasmonic acid (JA), salicylic acid (SA), abscisic acid (ABA), and gibberellin A(3) (GA(3))--were analyzed simultaneously using this method, and the conditions employed for DART-MS and SD-LLLME were optimized systematically. Satisfactory results were obtained in terms of linearity (R (2) values for all phytohormones were 0.991-0.996), sensitivity (limits of detection were 0.65-72 ng/mL), and repeatability (RSD values were 6.9-14%). In addition, the proposed method was applied to determine the endogenous phytohormones in three kinds of fruit juice. Different concentrations of phytohormones were detected with satisfactory recoveries, and the whole analytical procedure took no more than 30 min. Therefore, this combination of SD-LLLME and DART-MS was shown to be a suitable and effective approach for the fast analysis of targets present at trace level concentrations in complex matrices.  相似文献

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to detect the bonding between a silica particle surface and attached silanes. In addition to the commonly recorded Si 2p spectrum, the Si 1 s level is also accessible when monochromatic Ag Lalpha X-rays are applied. Furthermore, the spectrum of the Si 1 s level shows a fine structure. After spectrum deconvolution, we assigned the fitted spectral peaks to Si-C bonds of the silanes and to the Si-O bonds of the silica network. The recorded Si 1 s spectra were deconvoluted into peaks originating from Si-C bonds and the Si-O-Si silica network. To check the results of spectrum deconvolution, several differently functionalized silanes containing stoichiometric amounts of heteroatoms were applied for silica surface modification. We conclude that spectra deconvolution of the Si 1 s signal is an appropriate means for quantification of surface attached silane molecules.  相似文献
