By an example of a semibounded one-dimensional magnetic photonic crystal (MPC) of easy-axis antiferromagnet-nonmagnetic dielectric type placed in mutually orthogonal dc magnetic and electric fields, conditions are found under which the quadratic magneto-optic interaction leads to a number of anomalies in the reflection and propagation conditions for TM or TE waves incident from outside on the surface of the superlattice. A space-time filled with the self-gravitating charged fluid with constant electric permitivity and constant magnetic permeability is investigated. On expressing the stress-energy tensor in terms of an orthonormal tetrad, the equations of motion and Maxwell equations are formulated. In case of the geodesic flow, the conditions for divergence-free electric and magnetic fields are obtained. It is shown that the space-time permeated by the charged fluid with the electric field orthogonal to the magnetic one is embedded in 5-dimensional flat class-one space-time if and only if the electromagnetic energy flux vector vanishes. 相似文献

An attempt is made at direct experimental verification of the theory of thermomagnetic instability in composite superconductors under conditions of external magnetic field or transport current variations. The development of thermomagnetic instability in the form of a magnetic flux jump is experimentally studied in a bulk low-temperature composite niobium-tin superconductor. The liquid-helium-cooled sample representing a compressed tape helix (helicoid) is placed in an external magnetic field orthogonal to the turn plane and varying with a constant rate. For the first time, both the magnetic induction inside the sample and its temperature are simultaneously detected in experiments. The sample overheat preceding the magnetic flux jump is measured to be 0.23 + 0.02 K. This value is found to be independent of the rate of the external magnetic field variation and the value of the jump itself and coincides, within the experimental accuracy, with the temperature parameter of electric field buildup involved in the general exponential I-V characteristic of the composite superconductor, which depends on temperature and magnetic induction. 相似文献

We present the magnetic duals of Güven's electric-type solutions of D = 11 supergravity preserving 1/4 or 1/8 of the D = 11 supersymmetry. We interpret the electric solutions as n orthogonal intersecting membranes and the magnetic solutions as n orthogonal intersecting 5-branes, with n = 2, 3; these cases obey the general rule that p-branes can self-intersect on (p − 2)-branes. On reduction to D = 4 these solutions become electric or magnetic dilaton black holes with dilaton coupling constant a = 1 (for n = 2) or

An annular Malmberg-Penning trap confining a non-neutral plasma of electrons has been operated with an azimuthal magnetic field to create drifts orthogonal to the magnetic flux surfaces. An applied electric field and collisions with added helium drive transport by electric mobility. The measured confinement times have the expected neoclassical magnetic-field dependence, are approximately 0.8 of the value based upon the neoclassical mobility, and differ from the classical value by more than a factor of 3 at the highest value of azimuthal field. 相似文献

We consider the spectrum of a two-dimensional Pauli operator with a compactly supported electric potential and a variable
magnetic field with a positive mean value. The rate of accumulation of eigenvalues to zero is described in terms of the logarithmic
capacity of the support of the electric potential. A connection between these eigenvalues and orthogonal polynomials in complex
domains is established.

The magnetic field effect on the spectrum of excitons associated with various minibands in superlattices was studied by resonance Raman spectroscopy. It was found that the intensity of Raman scattering by acoustic phonons with the participation of the ground state of an exciton associated with the second miniband is sharply reduced even in weak magnetic fields if its velocity vector is orthogonal to the external magnetic field. This phenomenon was explained by the ionization of the exciton in the electric filed arising in the system of coordinate associated with the exciton moving perpendicular to the external magnetic field. 相似文献

Reformulating the issue of planewave propagation in a simply moving, dielectric-magnetic medium that is isotropic in the co-moving reference frame, using the Lorentz transformations of electric and magnetic fields and not the Minkowski constitutive relations-we reaffirm that plane waves which have positive phase velocity in the co-moving frame of reference can have negative phase velocity in certain non-co-moving frames of reference. Furthermore, this phenomenon occurs whether the medium is dissipative or not. For a fixed propagation direction, orthogonal phase velocity arises only at a unique velocity of the non-co-moving frame. 相似文献

It is shown that the electrodynamics of orthogonal magnetic and electric fields can be represented as the dynamics of covariant lines of force. Such a representation is provided for the Lienard-Wichert field of an arbitrary moving charge and the field of a charge that moves uniformly about a circle. The four vector of the electric lines of force is written as the sum of the four vector of the charge and the radius four vector directed along the light cone to the observation point. This vector is a solution of an equation that formally coincides with the equation of motion of the magnetic moment in external fields for a zero intrinsic magnetic moment. The electromagnetic field is reconstructed according to a system of lines that correspond to the total equation of motion of the magnetic moment. Experimental results of studying the spectrum of the microwave 37P-37S transition of Rydberg sodium atoms in a weak magnetic field (≤7 G) are reported. The populations of the Rydberg states were measured using the method of selective ionization with a pulsed electric field. When the magnetic field was parallel to the ionizing electric field, a good agreement between the calculated and experimental spectral shapes was observed, making it possible to determine the unknown polarization of the microwave radiation. In the case of the orthogonal configuration of the fields, the resonance structure was suppressed in the field ionization signals due to the strong influence of the magnetic field on the electron trajectories in the detection system. 相似文献

The relationship between magnetic order and ferroelectric properties has been investigated for MnWO4 with a long-wavelength magnetic structure. Spontaneous electric polarization is observed in an elliptical spiral spin phase. The magnetic-field dependence of electric polarization indicates that the noncollinear spin configuration plays a key role for the appearance of the ferroelectric phase. An electric polarization flop from the b direction to the a direction has been observed when a magnetic field above 10 T is applied along the b axis. This result demonstrates that an electric polarization flop can be induced by a magnetic field in a simple system without rare-earth 4f moments. 相似文献

A new resonant cavity ICRF coupler is proposed for large tokamaks. The design features a novel resonant cavity, an RF magneticfield orientation that effectively radiates fast Alfvén waves, matching to 40-? transmission lines, and an electric-field orientation so that the strongest RF electric fields are orthogonal to the main toroidal magnetic field, thereby benefiting from magnetic insulation. As a result, the power handling capability is excellent. For the case of the "Big-Dee" Doublet III tokamak, a single 35 × 50-cm coupler can launch 20 mW of fast Alfvén waves. Extrapolation to fusion reactor parameters is straightforward. 相似文献
