The coefficient of traction for a 9.5–16 R-1 bias ply tire was measured and compared with predictions using equations developed by Janosi and Hanamoto [Proc. 1st Int. Conf. on Mechanics, p. 707–736 (1961)]; Wismer and Luth [J. Terramechanics10, 49–61 (1973)] Gee-Clough et al. [J. Terramechanics15, 81–84 (1978)] and Brixius [ASAE Paper No. 87–1622 (1987)]. For the soft soil condition, with a cone index of 120 kPa, Gee-Clough's equation predicted the coefficient of traction better, but predictions using the Brixius equation were better for soil with a cone index of 225 kPa. An experimental device was developed to simultaneously measure the horizontal and vertical stress-strain relationships of soil. The use of resultant stress from the experimental device data failed to show any improvement in coefficient of traction prediction over using the cone index. The resultant of the normal and shear stress from the experimental device data did not adequately represent the soil properties involved in terrain-vehicle mechanics.  相似文献

The technique of warm-prestressing to improve the resistance of structural steel with defects against low temperature fracture has received considerable attention. It is found that warm-prestressing can improve the fracture toughness and change the COD or δc, especially the crack tip plastic opening δp.The experimental results obtained from three-point bending tests of 42Mn2 steel specimens at −60°C and −20°C are analyzed. Experiments are also made on the bursting of pressure vessels manufactured from #20 steel. The results indicate that warm-prestressing at room temperature increased the bursting pressure at −40°C for d/t = 0.2 to 0.4, where d is the depth of surface crack and t the vessel thickness.  相似文献

Studies were conducted in a laboratory glass-sided soil bin with dry compact loam soil (c = 0.02 kPa, Φ = 20° and cone index 210 kPa) with the specific objective of observing the effect of flat tine rake angle and aspect ratio on soil failure patterns. The tine was moved in the soil in a quasi-static condition and soil failure patterns were observed through a glass window. Tine rake angles of 50°, 90° and 130° were used while aspect ratio effects were studied by varying both width and depth of the tine. Individual effects of width and depth were investigated by maintaining a constant aspect ratio of 2.0 but varying width and depth. Results obtained indicated that soil failure patterns are affected by tine design parameters. Soil failure patterns were observed to be of progressive shear type in all cases. For 50° rake angle tines, the patterns consisted of inclined shear lines starting from the tine tip and gradually moving upwards towards the horizontal soil surface, intersecting it at an average failure angle of 32°. In the case of 90° rake angle tines, the inclined shear surface was at a distance from the tine tip whereas, for 130° rake angle tines, prismatic-shaped stationary soil wedges were formed adjacent to the tine. Failure angles for the 90° and 130° rake angle tines were almost the same as those for 50° rake angle tines. The results of this study also indicated that aspect ratio alone cannot account for changes in soil failure patterns, their corresponding soil reactions, forward rupture or surcharge profiles. The effects are mainly due to the individual changes in width and depth. There were no distinct zones as described in the passive soil pressure theory. Soil failures were in regular cycles resulting in corresponding variations in the soil reactions on the tines.  相似文献

Tungsten/copper (W/Cu) particle reinforced composites were used to investigate the scaling effects on the deformation and fracture behaviour. The effects of the volume fraction and the particle size of the reinforcement (tungsten particles) were studied. W/Cu-80/20, 70/30 and 60/40 wt.% each with tungsten particle size of 10 μm and 30 μm were tested under compression and shear loading. Cylindrical compression specimens with different volumes (DS = H) were investigated with strain rates between 0.001 s−1 and about 5750 s−1 at temperatures from 20 °C to 800 °C. Axis-symmetric hat-shaped shear specimens with different shear zone widths were examined at different strain rates as well. A clear dependence of the flow stress on the deformed volume and the particle size was found under compression and shear loading. Metallographic investigation was carried out to show a relation between the deformation of the tungsten particles and the global deformation of the specimens. The size of the deformed zone under either compression or shear loading has shown a clear size effect on the fracture of the hat-shaped specimens. The quasi-static flow curves were described with the material law from Swift. The parameters of the material law were presented as a function of the temperature and the specimen size. The mechanical behaviour of the composite materials were numerically computed for an idealized axis-symmetric hat-shaped specimen to verify the determined material law.  相似文献

In forestry operations, machines used should have a high practicability, yet damage the stand as little as possible. Machine forces are undoubtedly too high in many cases, causing deep ruts, soil compaction and cutting off the tree roots. The knowledge of what forces a forest stand can withstand is still quite limited. One of the aims of our project is to supply information about the strength of the forest floor. Since the forest floor of podzol-type is a complex layered structure, we have started by studying the components in the system. A sand sediment can bear high pressures, whereas a moist fine sandy till soil should not be loaded to more than 30 kPa if severe soil compaction is to be avoided. However, the effect of shear forces and slippage is poorly studied. The humus layer above the mineral soil is armoured by tree roots, shrub roots, grass roots, etc. Intact bark is the best guarantee for healthy trees. During the sap period the shear strength of tree root bark is at least 40 N cm−2. The armouring effect of roots and rhizomes on the humus layer is considerable, as the total length of roots may be 200–500 m m−2. The strength of the humus layer is being measured.  相似文献

This study was to investigate the effect of inflation pressure on the tractive performance of bias-ply tires for agricultural tractors. Traction tests were conducted at velocities of 3, 4, and 5.5 km h−1 under four different surface conditions using a 13.6–28 6PR bias-ply tire as driving the wheel of the test tractor. When the inflation pressure was reduced from 250 to 40 kPa by a decrement of either 30 or 50 kPa depending upon the test surfaces, some of the test results showed that the traction coefficient and tractive efficiency were increased maximally by 14 and 6%, respectively, at 20% slip. However, such improvements in traction were not statistically consistent enough to find any rules regarding the effect of inflation pressure of bias ply tires on the tractive performance of tractors.  相似文献

Compaction is an important component of soil degradation. In this regard, the pre-compaction stress (σpc) concept is considered useful in mechanized agriculture nowadays. When the external forces exceed the internal strength (σpc) of soil, soil structure and soil physical quality will deteriorate. This concept was introduced at first for confined consolidation of non-structured, homogenized and saturated subsoils in civil engineering, though it is also suitable for agricultural conditions where the topsoil and subsoil are considered and both are often structured, heterogeneous and unsaturated. The best method for predicting σpc is by the plate sinkage test (PST) in the field, but it is expensive and time-consuming. This study was conducted to find an alternative laboratory method besides the confined compaction test (CCT) for predicting σpc. The CCT may not be a good method, especially at higher water contents, and for soils with low organic matter content, because of low sharpness of the critical region on the stress–strain curves. The study was performed on five soil types with a range of soil textures and organic matter content from central Iran using three loading types and three pF (i.e. Log [soil matric suction in cm]) values of 2.3, 2.7 and 2.9 with two replicates. Loading types consisted of CCT, the semi-confined compaction test (SCCT) and the kneading compaction test (KCT) at three maximum (or pre-compaction) stresses of 200, 400 and 600 kPa. The experiment was a completely randomized factorial design. The aim was to determine how accurately each loading type test could predict σpc of soil pre-compacted by one of the other methods. The applied combinations of CCT–SCCT, SCCT–CCT and KCT–CCT mean that the soil was pre-compacted by the first loading type and evaluated by the second one. The results showed that σpc and the sharpness of the σpc region were significantly affected by loading types as well as the soil conditions. The sharpest σpc region was observed in SCCT and the least sharp in CCT with the overall order being CCT–SCCT > SCCT–CCT > KCT–CCT. The sharpness of the σpc region was reduced for the soil samples with higher water content and coarser texture. Regardless of the soil and loading conditions, the prediction by SCCT was consistently more accurate than by CCT. The prediction of σpc by SCCT was more precise in comparison with CCT especially at higher stresses and soil water contents. However, the prediction of σpc by SCCT was very accurate at pF values of 2.7 and 2.9, and with low σpc values, when compared with the actual values of the σpc. For the clay soil at a pF value of 2.3, no pre-compaction region (i.e. zero σpc) could be determined by CCT at a maximum axial stress of 600 kPa. This was because of the incompressibility of soil water at this near-saturated soil condition at high stress. However, the sharpness of the critical region in SCCT was high enough to predict σpc satisfactorily. There was no significant difference between the combinations of SCCT–CCT and KCT–CCT in predicting σpc. The SCCT is a compromise method that lies between CCT and PST. SCCT has the advantage of using a limited and definite soil volume that can be modeled as a soil element. Marginal effects of disturbance caused by coring/sampling as well as pre-test sample preparation seem to have minor effects on the stress–strain curve determined by SCCT in comparison with CCT. Moreover, the soil volume needed for this test is the same as for CCT.  相似文献

Experimentally determined plastic constitutive equations of the parabolic form (σ − σy = β(ε − εy)1/2) are presented for a high strength alloy steel. Two deformation moduli β were required to describe the quasistatic compression data, both of which, as well as the point of change, were predicted by a mode index and transition strain structure of a general theory of plasticity. Dynamic strain, duration of impact, and final strain distribution were measured on specimen rods subjected to axial, symmetric, and constant velocity impact. The dynamic yield stress was 16% higher than the quasistatic value. The dynamic response function, deduced from a simple wave propagation theory, was also parabolic and a single deformation modulus, equal to the initial quasistatic value, applied. Thus, it was shown that the form of the quasistatic response function was preserved in dynamic loading, and that the increase of the dynamic stress was due to the increase of the yield stress.  相似文献

The near tip field of mode II crack that grows in thin bodies with power hardening or perfectly plastic behavior is analyzed. It is shown that for power hardening behavior, the pseudo plane stress field possesses the logarithm singularity, i.e. σ (ln r)2/(n−1), (ln r)2n/(n − 1), where r is the distance from the crack tip, n the hardening exponent is σn. When n → ∞ the solution reduced to that for the perfectly plastic case.  相似文献

A motorized rheometer was developed for determining soil visco-plastic parameters that works on the principle of torsional shear applied to a standard vane with controlled strain rate. Rheological measurements were carried at different soil moisture contents (10%, 13%, 17% and 20% dry basis (gravimetric)) and soil compaction levels (100, 150, 200, 300 and 400 kPa) to find their effects on soil viscosity and yield strength. The values of viscosity of the clay loam soil (29% clay, 24% silt and 47% sand) were found to spread in the range of 53–283 kPa s, and yield stress variation had a span of 4–28 kPa. Increase in soil compaction was accompanied by a sharp increase in soil viscosity, while moisture content affected soil viscosity negatively. Effect of both these parameters was statistically significant (95% confidence interval). Yield stress was positively related to soil compaction and the effect was statistically significant. However, it was negatively related to moisture content and the effect was not statistically significant for the levels of moisture content tested.  相似文献

We investigate the propagation of elastic waves through an elastic medium submitted to an angular rotation Ω. Wave propagation is shown to be directly related to the Kibel number Ki=ω/Ω, where ω is the wave frequency. Two dispersive waves W1 and W2 are obtained which tend to the classical dilatational and shear waves, respectively, when Ki tends to infinity. Wave W1 shows a cutoff frequency ωc=Ω below which it does not propagate. The case of small angular rotation Ω is also studied. The corrections to be introduced to dilatational and shear waves are then shown to be of order O(Ki−1).  相似文献

Fractal model for virgin compression of pure clays   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The well-known linear relation between the void ratio and the logarithm of pressure for the one-dimensional consolidation has widely incorporated into elastoplastic constitute equation of soils, however, it is not at all straight line for more compressible clays and has several physically unaccepted properties. The compression of clays is explained by fractal theory, and is seen as a balance between the vertical pressure and repulsive force between clay plates. The distance between clay plates depends on the structure formation of the clay flocculation and clay surface. The structure formation of the clay flocculation and clay surface can be modeled by fractal approach. A new formulation of one-dimensional virgin compression of pure clays, expressed by the linear function of ln ν–ln p or ln e–ln p, is proposed based on the fractal model for clay structure. The linear function of ln ν–ln p is suitable to express the virgin compression of the extremely high plasticity clays up to the high pressure of 5000 kPa. For low plasticity clays, the virgin compression satisfies with the linear relationship of ln e–ln p at the pressure higher than 100 kPa. These too are show to be in satisfactory agreement with experimental data. The gradient of the plots of ln ν–ln p and ln e–ln p is related to the fractal dimensions of clay structure, the fundamental material parameters for the first time.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the surface treatment (ion nitriding) of fretting fatigue and fatigue resistance of 34CrNiMo6. Tests are made on a servo-hydraulic machine under tension for both treated and non-treated specimens. The test parameters involve the applied displacements δ±80–±170 μm; fretting pressure σn=1000–1400 MPa; fatigue stress amplitude σa=380–680 MPa and stress ratio R=−1. The ion nitriding process improves both fatigue and fretting fatigue lives. Subsurface crack initiation from internal discontinuities was found for ion-nitrided specimens.  相似文献

In the present work, the objective is to attempt to induce parallel vortex shedding at a moderately high Reynolds number (=1.578 × 104) by using the cylinder end suction method, and measure the associated aerodynamic parameters. We first measured the aerodynamic parameters of a single circular cylinder without end suction, and showed that the quantities measured are in good agreement with equivalent data in the published literature. Next, by using different amount of end suction which resulted in increasing the cylinder end velocity by 1%, 2% and 2.5%, we were able to show that the above corresponded to the situation of under suction, optimal suction and over suction, respectively. With optimal suction, we demonstrated that the end suction method works at Re = 1.578 × 104. The shape of the primary vortex shed became straighter than when there is no end suction, and parameters like cylinder surface pressure distribution, drag force per unit span, as well as vortex shedding frequency all showed negligible spanwise variation. Further careful analyses showed that when compared to the naturally existing curved vortex shedding, with parallel vortex shedding the mid-span drag per unit span became slightly smaller, but the drag averaged over the cylinder span became slightly larger. For cylinder surface pressure, it was found that cylinder end effects mainly influenced the surface pressure in the angular ranges −180°  β < −60° and 60° < β  180°. Without end suction, the cylinder surface pressure in the above ranges was found to increase (become less negative) slightly with |z/d|, but such increase disappeared when optimal end suction was applied, and the cylinder surface pressure distribution became spanwise location independent. As for the vortex shedding frequency (Strouhal number), although the Strouhal number showed spanwise variation when there is no end suction and negligible spanwise variation when optimal suction was applied, the difference between the spanwise averaged Strouhal number was quite negligible. With under suction, the spanwise dependence of various aerodynamic parameters existed, but was found to be not as significant as when no end suction was applied at all. With over suction, the flow situation was found to be practically no change from the optimal suction situation.  相似文献

The initial boundary-value linear stability problem for small localised axisymmetric disturbances in a homogeneous elastic wave guide, with the free upper surface and the lower surface being rigidly attached to a half-space, is formally solved by applying the Laplace transform in time and the Hankel transforms of zero and first orders in space. An asymptotic evaluation of the solution, expressed as a sum of inverse Laplace-Hankel integrals, is carried out by using the approach of the mathematical formalism of absolute and convective instabilities. It is shown that the dispersion-relation function of the problem D0 (κ, ω), where the Hankel parameter κ is substituted by a wave number (and the Fourier parameter) κ, coincides with the dispersion-relation function D0 (k, ω) for two-dimensional (2-D) disturbances in a homogeneous wave guide, where ω is the frequency (and the Laplace parameter) in both cases. An analysis for localised 2-D disturbances in a homogeneous wave guide is then applied. We obtain asymptotic expressions for wave packets, triggered by axisymmetric perturbations localised in space and finite in time, as well as for responses to axisymmetric sources localised in space, with the time dependence satisfying eiω0t + O(e−εt) for t → ∞, where Im ω0 = 0, ε > 0, and t denotes time, i.e. for signalling with frequency ω0. We demonstrate that, for certain combinations of physical parameters, axisymmetric wave packets with an algebraic temporal decay and axisymmetric signalling with an algebraic temporal growth, as √t, i.e., axisymmetric temporal resonances, are present in a neutrally stable homogeneous wave guide. The set of physically relevant wave guides having axisymmetric resonances is shown to be fairly wide. Furthermore, since an axisymmetric part of any source is L2-orthogonal to its non-axisymmetric part, a 3-D signalling with a non-vanishing axisymmetric component at an axisymmetric resonant frequency will generally grow algebraically in time. These results support our hypothesis concerning a possible resonant triggering mechanism of certain earthquakes, see Brevdo, 1998, J. Elasticity, 49, 201–237.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the characteristics of defect substructures associated with plastic flow at the mesolevel. The important features are high curvature of the crystal lattice such that the local internal stress could reach the theoretical shear strength of the crystal and high stress gradient up to G/5 μm−1 giving rise to stress moments. The foregoing is characteristics of the deformation of high-strength materials.  相似文献

Variable load test data were used to evaluate the applicability of an existing forestry tire traction model for a new forestry tire and a worn tire of the same size with and without tire chains in a range of soil conditions. The clay and sandy soils ranged in moisture content from 17 to 28%. Soil bulk density varied between 1.1 and 1.4g cm−3 with cone index values between 297 and 1418 kPa for a depth of 140 mm. Two of the clay soils had surface cover or vegetation, the other clay soil and the sandy soil had no surface cover. Tractive performance data were collected in soil bins using a single tire test vehicle with the tire running at 20% slip. A non-linear curve fitting technique was used to optimize the model by fitting it to collected input torque data by modifying the coefficients of the traction model equations. Generally, this procedure resulted in improved prediction of input torque, gross traction ratio and net traction ratio. The predicted tractive performance using the optimized coefficients showed that the model worked reasonably well on bare, uniform soils with the new tire. The model was flexible and could be modified to predict tractive performance of the worn tire with and without chains on the bare homogeneous soils. The model was not adequate for predicting tractive performance on less uniform soils with a surface cover for any of the tire treatments.  相似文献

New nonlinear empirical relationships are given for predicting peak radial soil particle velocity and maximum radial displacement at various standoff distances from buried chemical and nuclear explosive detonations. Experimental test data in soil and rock, and for yields ranging from 0.03 pounds (0.01 kg) of explosive to blast yields of 19.2 kilotons (17.5 kilotonnes), are used to demonstrate the validity of these results. The scaled energy releases Wc2R3 range over nine orders of magnitude in this study from approximately 4.4 × 10−11 to 4.4 × 10−2; whereas, previous efforts generally covered three orders of magnitude. A soil impedence term is added to handle the troublesome problem of nondimensionalized displacements and particle velocities scaling for different soils. The paper ends by presenting a few nondimensionalized test results which can be used to predict ground motions from buried line explosive sources, an area of little previous discussion.
