We propose a new approach that gives a one-step computational algorithm to directly obtain the queue length distribution of an N/G/1 queueing system. The new approach is based on the supplementary variable method and the matrix–analytic method. We shall show that this approach enables us to derive the joint distribution of the queue length and the elapsed service time. Abstract

We present a transform-free distribution of the steady-state queue length for the GI/G/1/K queueing system with multiple vacations under exhaustive FIFO service discipline. The method we use is a modified supplementary variable technique and the result we obtain is expressed in terms of conditional expectations of the remaining service time, the remaining interarrival time, and the remaining vacation, conditional on the queue length at the embedded points. In this paper, we investigate the impact of retrial phenomenon on loss probabilities and compare loss probabilities of several channel allocation schemes giving higher priority to hand-off calls in the cellular mobile wireless network. In general, two channel allocation schemes giving higher priority to hand-off calls are known; one is the scheme with the guard channels for hand-off calls and the other is the scheme with the priority queue for hand-off calls. For mathematical unified model for both schemes, we consider theMAP 1,MAP 2 /M/c/b, ∞ retrial queue with infinite retrial group, geometric loss, guard channels and finite priority queue for hand-off class. We approximate the joint distribution of two queue lengths by Neuts' method and also obtain waiting time distribution for hand-off calls. From these results, we obtain the loss probabilities, the mean waiting time and the mean queue lengths. We give numerical examples to show the impact of the repeated attempt and to compare loss probabilities of channel allocation schemes.  相似文献

We consider a GI/GI/1 queue with the shortest remaining processing time discipline (SRPT) and light-tailed service times. Our interest is focused on the tail behavior of the sojourn-time distribution. We obtain a general expression for its large-deviations decay rate. The value of this decay rate critically depends on whether there is mass in the endpoint of the service-time distribution or not. An auxiliary priority queue, for which we obtain some new results, plays an important role in our analysis. We consider the GI/M/1/K queue where the server takes exponentially distributed vacations when there are no customers left to serve in the queue. We obtain the queue length distribution at arrival epochs and random epochs for the multiple vacation case. We present heuristic algorithms to compute the blocking probability for this system. Several numerical examples are presented to analyze the behaviour of the blocking probability and to test the performance of the heuristics.  相似文献

Consider the discrete time GI/Geo/1 queue with working vacations under EAS and LAS schemes. The server takes the original work at the lower rate rather than completely stopping during the vacation period. Using the matrix-geometric solution method, we obtain the steady-state distribution of the number of customers in the system and present the stochastic decomposition property of the queue length. Furthermore, we find and verify the closed property of conditional probability for negative binomial distributions. Using such property, we obtain the specific expression for the steady-state distribution of the waiting time and explain its two conditional stochastic decomposition structures. In this paper, we give a detailed analysis of the GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service and multiple exponential vacation. We express the transition matrix of the imbedded Markov chain as a block-Jacobi form and give a matrix-geometric solution. The probability distribution of the queue length at arrival epochs is derived and is shown to decompose into the distribution of the sum of two independent random variables. In addition, we discuss the limiting behavior of the continuous time queue length processes and obtain the probability distributions for the waiting time and the busy period.  相似文献

Consider a GI/M/1 queue with phase-type working vacations and vacation interruption where the vacation time follows a phase-type distribution. The server takes the original work at the lower rate during the vacation period. And, the server can come back to the normal working level at a service completion instant if there are customers at this instant, and not accomplish a complete vacation. From the PH renewal process theory, we obtain the transition probability matrix. Using the matrix-analytic method, we obtain the steady-state distributions for the queue length at arrival epochs, and waiting time of an arbitrary customer. Meanwhile, we obtain the stochastic decomposition structures of the queue length and waiting time. Two numerical examples are presented lastly.  相似文献

This paper treats an M/G/1 queue with single working vacation and vacation interruption under Bernoulli schedule. Whenever the system becomes empty at a service completion instant, the server goes for a single working vacation. In the working vacation, a customer is served at a lower speed, and if there are customers in the queue at the instant of a service completion, the server is resumed to a regular busy period with probability p   (i.e., the vacation is interrupted) or continues the vacation with probability 1-p1-p. Using the matrix analytic method, we obtain the distribution for the stationary queue length at departure epochs. The joint distribution for the stationary queue length and service status at the arbitrary epoch is also obtained by using supplementary variable technique. We also develop a variety of stationary performance measures for this system and give a conditional stochastic decomposition result. Finally, several numerical examples are presented.  相似文献

This queue has the exponential service with parametersμ ij, depending on the types of the successive customers attended. We obtain the queue length probability distribution at equilibrium for a multi-server, single queue with generalised exponential (GE) service time distribution and a Markov modulated compound Poisson arrival process (MMCPP) – i.e., a Poisson point process with bulk arrivals having geometrically distributed batch size whose parameters are modulated by a Markovian arrival phase process. This arrival process has been considered appropriate in ATM networks and the GE service times provide greater flexibility than the more conventionally assumed exponential distribution. The result is exact and is derived, for both infinite and finite capacity queues, using the method of spectral expansion applied to the two dimensional (queue length by phase of the arrival process) Markov process that describes the dynamics of the system. The Laplace transform of the interdeparture time probability density function is then obtained. The analysis therefore could provide the basis of a building block for modelling networks of switching nodes in terms of their internal arrival processes, which may be both correlated and bursty.  相似文献

We study a GI/M/1 queue with an N threshold policy. In this system, the server stops attending the queue when the system becomes empty and resumes serving the queue when the number of customers reaches a threshold value N.
