Open quantum systems and Feynman integrals: Some problems

A few open problems of mathematical physics are presented. They concern open quantum systems and Feynman path integrals; some of them are technical, while others are of conceptual importance.Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.     

Energy independent number of clusters and multiplicity distribution at Collider and beyond

Multiplicity distributions up to the Collider energies could be described by various two-parameter compounded distributions having in common Poisson distributed number of clusters. Among them the logarithmic distribution for hadronization via decaying clusters leads to energyindependent number of clusters above the ISR energies, replacing the previous KNO-scaling.Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.     

Nonexistence of finite-energy solutions in some gauge models

A theorem which forbids the existence of certain nontrivial static finite-energy classical solutions to Yang-Mills-Higgs equations in dependence on the spatial dimension is generalized to include fields with nonvanishing electric-like componentsF _0j .Dedicated to 30th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.     

Phase Transitions and recent advances in liquid-crystals research

During the past few years, the journal Phase Transitions has attracted a good number of articles from the liquid-crystals community. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the journal, we give an overview of the recent developments and the likely future of the field of liquid crystals, with special reference to some of the articles that appeared in this journal in the recent years.     

Characteristics of charged particle multiplicity for¯nn andnn interactions and¯nn annihilations at 6·1 GeV/c

Topological cross sections and characteristics of charged particle multiplicity distributions for¯nn andnn interactions and¯nn annihilations at 6·1 GeV/c are presented. KNO-distributions for¯nn andnn interactions are very similar. Characteristics for¯nn and¯pp annihilations are identical at equal energies.Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.     

On the proof of the Π-theorem in dimension theory

The 100-year anniversary of the proof of one of the brightest and most universal theorems in mechanics and physics, the Π-theorem in dimension theory is approaching. In connection with this anniversary, it is of interest to trace the main chronological stages in the mid nineteenth and early twentieth centuries concerning the understanding and proof of the Π-theorem treated both as a purely mathematical assertion and from the point of view of physics and the theory of experiment. Below we reproduce and comment out these stages.     

F.A. Zander and Yu.V. Kondratyuk,pioneers of rocket engineering

The paper briefly describes the life and activities of F.A. Zander and Yu.V. Kondratyuk (A.I. Shargei), pioneers of domestic rocket engineering who made a significant contribution to the development of cosmonautics and rocket technologies. The main ideas and proposals of these prominent scientists and inventors in the field of rocket and space engineering, which found their application in space conquering, are considered. To the 120th anniversary of F.A. Zander and 110th anniversary of Yu.V. Kondratyuk     

On the sensitivity of nucleon-nucleon correlations to the form of short-range potential

Nucleon-nucleon correlation characteristics are calculated for several phenomenological and realistic strong potentials. The results show that a square-well potential reasonably well approximates the nucleon-nucleon interaction if one calculates the correlations between nudeons generated in a region with an r.m.s. radius larger than 1·5–2 fm. And vice versa, the correlations of nucleons emitted from a smaller generation region are sensitive to the form of assumed nucleon-nucleon potential.Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.On leave of absence from theInstitute of Nuclear Physics, Czechosl. Study of nuclear effects in nucleon structure functions up to and beyond the kinematic limit

An experiment on deep inelastic muon nucleon scattering in order to study the x-dependence of nucleon structure functions and their ratios over a range ofQ ²=50–200 GeV² andx= =0·4–2·0 is proposed. Such measurements performed on a number of nuclei with atomic weights from 2 to 207 provide new information for detailed studies of the EMC effect and test models explaining thex-behaviour of the nucleon structure functions and their ratios. The measurements are decisive for the proof that a quark-parton model of the nucleus describes adequately nuclear structure probed at high energies. The upgraded high luminosity BCDMS spectrometer with improved resolution in transferred energy can be used for the measurements.Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.     

On fixing the scale in QCD from lattice calculations

Recent results of lattice Monte-Carlo calculations in QCD are used to estimate the value of . Special attention is paid to the role played by the light quarks in the construction of the continuum limit in QCD. The history of JOV of 10 years

Visualization is an interdisciplinary imaging science devoted to making the invisible visible by means of the techniques of experimental visualization and computer-aided visualization. Since the first publication of Journal of Visualization (JOV) in 1998, the Journal has been providing state-of-the-art information on this imaging science in full color in order for better understanding of the phenomena. Since the first issue, 10 volumes, 40 copies and approximately 430 papers have been published. The Editorial Board is composed of domestic and foreign researchers who are internationally active in this field. Thus, JOV is strongly characterized as an international technical journal. The JOV reached the 10th anniversary year in 2007, and the anniversary ceremonies were held in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Tallahassee.
