Steady-state absorption and fluorescence spectra, and time-resolved fluorescence spectra of coumarin 343 (C343) were measured in different solvents. The effect of the solvent on the spectral properties and dipole moment of the lowest excited state of C343 were investigated. It was found that the absorption and fluorescence spectra red-shifted slightly and strongly with increasing solvent polarity, respectively, because the charge distribution of the excited state leaded to the increasing difference between the absorption and fluorescence spectra with increasing solvent polarity. The dipole moment of the lowest excited state of C343was determined from solvatochromic measurements and the quantum chemical calculation, and the results obtained from these two methods were fully consistent. Investigations of the time-resolved fluorescence of C343 in different solvents indicated that the fluorescence lifetimes increased nearly linearly with increasing solvent polarity from 3.09 ns in toluene to 4.45 ns in water. This can be ascribed to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between C343 and hydrogen donating solvents.  相似文献

In this article, we present a new and simple, yet efficient, two-step approach to synthesize 4,4'-bis(dibutylaminostyrylstyryl)-2,2'-bipyridine with high yield, as well as its linear and nonlinear optical characterizations in THF and toluene solutions. We show that its one- and two-photon absorption spectra are similar in both solvents. Nevertheless, the relaxation processes of this compound exhibit dependence on the solvent polarity. The one- and two-photon induced fluorescence signal of this molecule in solution reveals that its excited state is highly stabilized in THF solution rather than in toluene. Analysis of the fluorescence quantum yield, lifetime, and radiative and nonradiative decay rates are in agreement with Lippert's model for solute-solvent interactions. The optical measurements demonstrate that this dye is a promising candidate for multiphoton fluorescence imaging, optical limiting, and dye lasers.  相似文献

Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) method was used to study the excited-state hydrogen bonding of three esculetin complexes formed with aprotic solvents. The geometric structures, molecular orbitals (MOs), electronic spectra and the infrared (IR) spectra of the three doubly hydrogen-bonded complexes formed by esculetin and aprotic solvents dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), tetrahyrofuran (THF) and acetonitrile (ACN) in both ground state S(0) and the first singlet excited state S(1) were calculated by the combined DFT and TD-DFT methods with the COSMO solvation model. Two intermolecular hydrogen bonds can be formed between esculetin and the aprotic solvent in each hydrogen-bonded complex. Based on the calculated bond lengths of the hydrogen bonds and the groups involved in the formation of the intermolecular hydrogen bonds in different electronic states, it is demonstrated that one of the two hydrogen bonds formed in each hydrogen-bonded complex is strengthened while the other one is weakened upon photoexcitation. Furthermore, it is found that the strength of the intermolecular hydrogen bonds formed in the three complexes becomes weaker as the solvents change from DMSO, via THF, to ACN, which is suggested to be due to the decrease of the hydrogen bond accepting (HBA) ability of the solvents. The spectral shifts of the calculated IR spectra further confirm the strengthening and weakening of the intermolecular hydrogen bonds upon the electronic excitation. The variations of the intermolecular hydrogen bond strengths in both S(0) and S(1) states are proposed to be the main reasons for the gradual spectral shifts in the absorption and fluorescence spectra both theoretically and experimentally.  相似文献

The photophysical properties of 3-[2-(4-diphenylaminophenyl)benzoxazol-5-yl]alanine methyl ester (1b) and its Boc derivative (1a) were studied in a series of solvents. Its UV-Vis absorption spectra are less sensitive to the solvent polarity than the corresponding fluorescence spectra which show pronounced solvatochromic effect leading to large Stokes shifts. Using an efficient solvatochromic method, based on the molecular-microscopic empirical solvent polarity parameter E(T)(N), a large change of the dipole moment on excitation has been found. From an analysis of the solvatochromic behaviour of the UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectra in terms of bulk solvent polarity functions, f(epsilon(r),n) and g(n), a large excited-state dipole moment (mu(e) = 11D), almost perpendicular to the smaller ground-state dipole moment, was observed. This demonstrates the formation of an intramolecular charge-transfer excited state. Large changes of the fluorescence quantum yields as well as the fluorescence lifetimes with an increase of a solvent polarity cause that the new non-proteinogenic amino acid, 3-[2-(4-diphenylaminophenyl)benzoxazol-5-yl]-alanine methyl ester, is a new useful fluorescence probe for biophysical studies of peptides and proteins.  相似文献

Electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra of the acridine dye 2,7-dimethyl-9-(ditolylamino)acridine were studied at room temperature in solvents of different polarity (hexane, toluene, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, acetonitrile, etc.). The obtained data on the shift of the fluorescence band maximum depending on the solvent polarity were used for the estimation of the dipole moment of 2,7-dimethyl-9-ditolylaminoacridine in the ground and the first excited state.  相似文献

The solvent effects on the electronic absorption spectra of 9,10-anthraquinone (AQ) and its symmetric dihydroxy derivatives namely 1,5-dihydroxyanthraquinone (1,5-DHAQ) and 2,6-dihydroxyanthraquinone (2,6-DHAQ) have been studied in pure solvents and some binary solvent mixtures. The frequencies of the absorption for AQ and 2,6-DHAQ are quite solvent sensitive while those for 1,5-DHAQ are not. Due to the intramolecular hydrogen bond between the CO and OH groups, no influence of solvent hydrogen bond acceptors is observed in 1,5-DHAQ. This hydrogen bond gives a stable six member cycle which is not broken even by the strongest hydrogen bond acceptor solvents used in this work, such as DMSO and DMF. The Taft and Kamlet's solvatochromic comparison method was applied for AQ and 2,6-DHAQ. Aromatic solvents and aliphatic amines were not included in the correlations since they strongly deviate suggesting another type of interactions. All the π→π* bands of AQ and 2,6-DHAQ show strong influence of π* despite the fact that their dipole moment is zero. Although it would be reasonable to expect that in the absence of a solute dipole moment there is not significant orientation of solvent molecules around the solute molecules, in this case dipolar interactions between solute and solvent due to local effects might be expected. AQ may be considered as formed by two carbonyl groups weakly interacting with the benzene rings; that means that the carbonyl group can behave as an isolated dipole and independently of the other. To detect possible specific interactions between the AQ and aliphatic amines and aromatic hydrocarbons, preferential solvation in mixed solvent was investigated. It is concluded that EDA interactions are important in the solvation of AQ with these compounds as solvents.  相似文献

In this paper, we described the synthesis and characterization of new diphenylethylene bearing imino group. We concentrated particularly on the investigation of the possibility of the excited state intramolecular charge transfer (ESIPT) of the new dyes experimentally and theoretically. The absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy of the dyes were determined in various solvents. The results showed that the maximal absorption wavelength of 2‐[(4′‐N,N‐dimethylamino‐diphenylethylene‐4‐ylimino)methyl]phenol ( C1 ) and 4‐[(4′‐N,N‐dimethylamino‐diphenylethylene‐4‐ylimino)methyl]phenol ( C2 ) exhibited almost independence on the solvent polarity. While as contrast, the maximal fluorescence wavelength of the dyes showed somewhat dependence on the solvent polarity. In particular, C1 displayed well‐separated dual fluorescence spectroscopy. The second fluorescence peak was characterized with an "abnormal" fluorescence emission wavelength in aprotic solvents with large Stokes shift (ca. 140 nm in THF), which was much more than normal Stokes shift (ca. 30 nm in THF). This emission spectroscopy could be assigned to ESIPT emission. On the other hand, the ESIPT fluorescence of C1 was much reduced or lost in the protic solvents. While, only normal fluorescence emission was detected in various solvents. Although the absorption maxima of C1 exhibited about 10 nm red‐shift with respect to those of C2 , the normal fluorescence maxima of C1 and C2 were almost identical in various solvents. These results suggested that C1 could undergo ESIPT, but C2 was not able to proceed ESIPT. The molecular geometry optimization of phototautomers in the ground electronic state (S0) was carried out with HF method (Hartree‐Fock) and at DFT level (Density Functional Theory) using B3LYP both, while the CIS was employed to optimize the geometries of the first singlet excited state (S1) of the phototautomers of C1 and C2 respectively. The properties of the ground state and the excited state of the phototautomers of C1 and C2 , including the geometrical parameter, the energy, the frontier orbits, the Mulliken charge and the dipole moment change were performed and compared completely. The data were analyzed further based on our experimental results. Furthermore, the absorption and fluorescence spectra were calculated in theory and compared with the measured ones. The rate constant of internal proton transfer (9.831×1011 s?1) of C1 was much lower than that of salicylidene methylamine ( C3 , 2.045×1015 s?1), which was a typical Schiff base compound and was well demonstrated to undergo ESIPT easily under photoexcitation.  相似文献

We systematically studied the excitation and the fluorescence steady-state spectroscopy of poly[2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethylhexoxy)-p-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV) in two solvents and several concentrations. Fluorescence spectra were recorded for solutions in several concentrations (10−5 mg/ml to 10−3 mg/ml), showing that tetrahydrofuran (THF) and toluene solvate the polymer chain differently. Dilute solution (10−5 mg/ml) in THF exhibit broader fluorescence spectra due to greater conformation disorder. The degree of the aggregation depends on both the solvent and the polymer concentration. Aggregation is promoted in toluene solution and hindered in THF solvent.  相似文献

Spectral-luminescent properties of the newly synthesized 2-(3-coumarinyl)-5-(2′-(R-amino)-phenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazoles has been investigated in solvents of various polarity and hydrogen-bonding ability. It has been found that for all the studied compounds no excited state intramolecular proton transfer occurs despite the presence of coumarinyl fragment - electron acceptor effect of the coumarinyl fragment is not sufficient to increase the excited state acidity of the amino group. It has been found that the absorption spectra of the studied compounds shift to higher energy with increase in solvent polarity, whereas corresponding fluorescence spectra shift to lower energy with solvent polarity increase. It has been suggested that long-wavelength shifts of the fluorescence spectra of the studied compounds with increase in solvent polarity is caused by the solvent relaxation. The observed solvent relaxation effect allow us to propose some of the studied compounds as potential probes to monitor changes in solvent relaxation in low-polar media and as potential probes for rigidochromic effect.  相似文献

An extensive spectroscopic analysis is presented of an elongated polycondensed dye with a donor–acceptor substitution. The charge‐transfer (CT) state, polarized along the long molecular axis, is close in energy to a local excitation (LE) of the polycondensed system, roughly polarized along the short molecular axis, which makes this system particularly suitable to investigate the subtle LE/CT interplay. An essential‐state model is presented that quantitatively reproduces absorption and fluorescence spectra, as well as fluorescence emission and excitation anisotropy spectra collected in solvents of different polarity and viscosity, which sets a sound basis for the understanding of how solvent polarity and solvent relaxation affect the nature of low‐lying excitations. The markedly different fluorescence emission and excitation anisotropy spectra measured in glassy and liquid polar solvents unambiguously demonstrate the major role played by solvent relaxation in the definition of fluorescence properties of the dye.  相似文献

The emission spectra of styrene (ST)–triethylamine (TEA) systems were measured under steady-state illumination conditions in some tetrahydrofuran (THF)–protic solvent mixtures. The fluorescence spectrum of the ST–TEA system in THF consists of two bands (band A at 304 nm (fluorescence of ST) and band B at 460 nm (emission from an exciplex)). The intensity of band A increased and that of band B decreased with increasing amounts of protic solvents in THF–protic solvent mixtures. The increase in the intensity of band A was explained by the decrease in the concentration of free amine owing to the hydrogen-bonding interaction (or protonation) between TEA and protic solvents. The decrease in the intensity of band B was considered to be caused by the decrease in the concentration of free amine upon the addition of protic solvents and the enhanced conversion of the exciplex to an ion pair with increasing solvent polarity. The polar effect was expressed as a function of the relative permittivity of the solution.  相似文献

A novel luminescent metal complex, (MQPF)3Al2, with 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum and 9,9-diphenylfluorene was synthesized. The optical properties were investigated by UV-vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectra. The results showed that the luminescence quantum yield of (MQPF)3Al2 was 0.612 in THF and it emitted red light with the band gap of 3.18 eV estimated from the onset absorption. The emission spectra exhibited obvious solvent effect. With the increase of polarity of solvents the fluorescence spectra changed obviously and appeared blue shift about 60 nm at room temperature. In addition, the light-emitting can be quenched by both electron donor (N,N-dimethylaniline) and electron acceptor (Fullerene), where the processes followed the Stern-Volmer equation. However, when adding 1,4-dicyanobenzene (DCB) which was a stronger electron acceptor to the solution of (MQPF)3Al2, the fluorescent intensity was increased.  相似文献

Derivatives of 5,7‐dichloro‐2‐styrylquinoline ( 1 ), modified at position 8 of quinoline moiety with a methyl ether ( 4 , DCSQM) or acetate ( 5 , DCSQA), were synthesized and investigated. Both compounds exhibited high thermal stability (Td > 320 °C). The UV‐vis absorption of DCSQM and DCSQA varied only slightly in different solvents, whereas the emission spectra showed pronounced red shifts with increasing solvent polarity, suggesting the intramolecular charge transfer character of the emission state. Compounds 4 and 5 can emit lights from blue to green color in different solvents. The solvent polarity dependent electronic transitions are attributed to efficient intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) processes, in which the HOMOs and LUMOs are localized on the styrene‐based ring and the quinoline‐based moiety, respectively. The quinoline‐based LUMO provides compelling evidence that the first reduction site occurs on the electron‐deficient quinoline moiety.  相似文献

Two dehydroabietic acid-based arylamines have been synthesized and characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS spectra and elemental analysis. Their spatial structures were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectral characteristics of these compounds in methanol were investigated. Their fluorescence emission spectra in different polarity solvents were further evaluated. Fluorescent properties and structural relationship of the compounds showed that fluorescence intensity and quantum yield inversely increase with the non-coplanar degree. In addition, the solvent polarity has different effects on the fluorescence emission spectra of two compounds.  相似文献

A novel luminescent compound, 9-bromo-10-naphthalen-2-yl-anthracene (BNA) is synthesized by Suzuki Cross-coupling reaction of 9-bromo-anthracene and naphthalene-2-boronic acid. The structure is characterized by (1)H NMR, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The photophysical processes of 9-bromo-10-naphthalen-2-yl-anthracene have been carefully investigated by UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectra. The results show that the compound emits blue and blue-violet light. The emission spectra exhibit obvious solvent effect. With the difference in polarity of solvents, The emission spectra is not only slightly blue shift with the increase of the solvent polarity but also change on the intensity of fluorescence at room temperature .The light emitting can be quenched by electron donor, N,N-dimethylaniline (DMA). On adding gradually DMA into the solution of BNA, the emission intensities of fluorescence are gradually decreased. The quenching effect follows the Stern-Volmer equation.  相似文献

The electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra of some biologically active natural flavones have been recorded at room temperature (298 K) in solvents of different polarities. The effects of the solvents upon the spectral properties are discussed. Difference in fluorescence intensity of flavones has been explained on the basis of intersystem crossing and degree of non-planarity calculated theoretically using Austin Model 1 (AM1) method. Excited-state dipole moments have been determined using the solvatochromic method based on the microscopic solvent polarity parameter, E(N)(T). A reasonable agreement has been observed between experimental and AM1 calculated dipole moment changes. Our results are found to be quite reliable in view of the fact that the correlation of the solvatochromic Stokes shifts with microscopic solvent polarity parameter, E(N)(T) is superior to that obtained using bulk solvent polarity functions for all the systems studied here.  相似文献

We have investigated conformational switching dynamics of meso-heptakis(pentafluorophenyl) [32]heptaphyrin(1.1.1.1.1.1.1) in various solvents using steady-state, time-resolved, and temperature-dependent spectroscopy. Absorption and fluorescence spectra of [32]heptaphyrin are quite sensitive to solvent environments. In nonpolar toluene, the antiaromatic figure-of-eight conformation is dominant, as seen in the X-ray crystallography, based on broad and weak absorption bands without any fluorescence and moderate paratropic ring current. On the other hand, a well-resolved sharp absorption spectrum, strong fluorescence, and diatropic ring current in the 1H NMR spectrum in slightly polar THF indicate that most of [32]heptaphyrin molecules take significantly distorted M?bius conformation with aromatic character. By using transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy, the lowest singlet excited-state lifetimes have been revealed to decay biexponentially with the time constants of 5 and 65 ps for figure-of-eight and M?bius conformations, respectively. Based on these results along with vertical excitation energy calculations, we are able to assign two conformers as Hückel antiaromatic and M?bius aromatic species, respectively; it shoulf be noted that the aromaticity/antiaromaticity does not change with temperature variation. Interestingly, in moderately polar solvent, ethyl ether, we find out that these two conformational isomers coexist with a dynamic equilibrium, as revealed by excitation-wavelength-dependent TA, temperature-dependent absorption and 1H NMR spectra. Through our findings, we have demonstrated that the conformational switching dynamics between Hckel antiaromatic and M?bius aromatic conformers in [32]heptaphyrin(1.1.1.1.1.1.1) are strongly affected by solvent medium as well as temperature.  相似文献

The relaxation dynamics of the indoline dye D149, a well-known sensitizer for photoelectrochemical solar cells, have been extensively characterized in various organic solvents by combining results from ultrafast pump-supercontinuum probe (PSCP) spectroscopy, transient UV-pump VIS-probe spectroscopy, time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) measurements as well as steady-state absorption and fluorescence. In the steady-state spectra, the position of the absorption maximum shows only a weak solvent dependence, whereas the fluorescence Stokes shift Δν?(F) correlates with solvent polarity. Photoexcitation at around 480 nm provides access to the S(1) state of D149 which exhibits solvation dynamics on characteristic timescales, as monitored by a red-shift of the stimulated emission and spectral development of the excited-state absorption in the transient PSCP spectra. In all cases, the spectral dynamics can be modeled by a global kinetic analysis using a time-dependent S(1) spectrum. The lifetime τ(1) of the S(1) state roughly correlates with polarity [acetonitrile (280 ps) < acetone (540 ps) < THF (720 ps) < chloroform (800 ps)], yet in alcohols it is much shorter [methanol (99 ps) < ethanol (178 ps) < acetonitrile (280 ps)], suggesting an appreciable influence of hydrogen bonding on the dynamics. A minor component with a characteristic time constant in the range 19-30 ps, readily observed in the PSCP spectra of D149 in acetonitrile and THF, is likely due to removal of vibrational excess energy from the S(1) state by collisions with solvent molecules. Additional weak fluorescence in the range 390-500 nm is observed upon excitation in the S(0)→S(2) band, which contains short-lived S(2)→S(0) emission of D149. Transient absorption signals after excitation at 377.5 nm yield an additional time constant in the subpicosecond range, representing the lifetime of the S(2) state. S(2) excitation also produces photoproducts.  相似文献

The effects of the protic and aprotic polar solvents on the emission spectrum of the naphthalene-triethyl-amine system in THF were studied under conditions of steady-state illumination. The fluorescence spectrum of the naphthalene-triethylamine system consists of two emission bands, the fluorescence band of naphthalene (band A, 329 nm) and the emission band of the exciplex(band B, 468 nm). The intensities of both the emission bands decrease with increasing the solvent polarity. The intensity of band B also decreases due to the hy-drogen-bonding interaction between triethylamine and protic solvent, while that of band A increases. It is thus suggested that the quenching of naphthalene fluorescence by triethylamine in THF occurs through the charge transfer and electron transfer reactions. The spectral changes upon the increase of solvent polarity can be explained by the dependences of the equilibrium constant between exciplex and ion-pair and the rate constant for the electron transfer reaction from triethyl.amine to the excited naphthalene on the rel.ative permittivity of solvent. It is shown that the formation of intermolecular hydrogen-bonding between triethylamine and protic solvent suppresses the quenching reaction by the decrease in free amine. Acetonitrile has only a polar effect and trichloroacetic acid only a hydrogen-bonding(or protonation) effect, while alcohols have both the effects. The effects of alcohols could be separated into the effects of solvent polarity and intermolecular hy-drogen-bonding interaction quantitatively.  相似文献
