The nullity of a graph G, denoted by η(G), is the multiplicity of the eigenvalue zero in its spectrum. Cheng and Liu [B. Cheng, B. Liu, On the nullity of graphs, Electron. J. Linear Algebra 16 (2007) 60-67] characterized the extremal graphs attaining the upper bound n-2 and the second upper bound n-3. In this paper, as the continuance of it, we determine the extremal graphs with pendent vertices achieving the third upper bound n-4 and fourth upper bound n-5. We then proceed recursively to construct all graphs with pendent vertices which satisfy η(G)>0. Our results provide a unified approach to determine n-vertex unicyclic (respectively, bicyclic and tricyclic) graphs which achieve the maximal and second maximal nullity and characterize n-vertex extremal trees attaining the second and third maximal nullity. As a consequence we, respectively, determine the nullity sets of trees, unicyclic graphs, bicyclic graphs and tricyclic graphs on n vertices.  相似文献

Let U(n,d) be the set of unicyclic graphs on n vertices with diameter d. In this article, we determine the unique graph with minimal least eigenvalue among all graphs in U(n,d). It is found that the extremal graph is different from that for the corresponding problem on maximal eigenvalue as done by Liu et al. [H.Q. Liu, M. Lu, F. Tian, On the spectral radius of unicyclic graphs with fixed diameter, Linear Algebra Appl. 420 (2007) 449-457].  相似文献

The Merrifield-Simmons index of a graph is defined as the total number of its independent sets, including the empty set. Denote by G(n,k) the set of connected graphs with n vertices and k cut vertices. In this paper, we characterize the graphs with the maximum and minimum Merrifield-Simmons index, respectively, among all graphs in G(n,k) for all possible k values.  相似文献

图的广义和连通指数作为新提出的一类分子拓扑指数, 在QSPR/QSAR 中有很大的应用价值. 树图、单圈图和双圈图的极值问题已取得很多结果, 而三圈图相关问题的研究较为复杂. 限制 - 1\leqslant \alpha < 0, 对三圈图的广义和连通指数进行了研究. 通过对三圈图的分析, 构造了一种图的变换, 指出在三圈图中广义和连通指 数的极小值必由其中的七种类型图取得. 然后通过悬挂边的变换, 最终得到三圈图广义和连通指 数的极小值并刻画了唯一的极图.  相似文献

The algebraic connectivity of G is the second smallest eigenvalue of its Laplacian matrix. Let Un be the set of all unicyclic graphs of order n. In this paper, we will provide the ordering of unicyclic graphs in Un up to the last seven graphs according to their algebraic connectivities when n≥13. This extends the results of Liu and Liu [Y. Liu, Y. Liu, The ordering of unicyclic graphs with the smallest algebraic connectivity, Discrete Math. 309 (2009) 4315-4325] and Guo [J.-M. A graph is called Q‐integral if its signless Laplacian spectrum consists of integers. In this paper, we characterize a class of k‐cyclic graphs whose second smallest signless Laplacian eigenvalue is less than one. Using this result we determine all the Q‐integral unicyclic, bicyclic and tricyclic graphs.  相似文献

It is well known that the two graph invariants, “the Merrifield-Simmons index” and “the Hosoya index” are important in structural chemistry. A graph G is called a quasi-tree graph, if there exists u0 in V(G) such that Gu0 is a tree. In this paper, at first we characterize the n-vertex quasi-tree graphs with the largest, the second-largest, the smallest and the second-smallest Merrifield-Simmons indices. Then we characterize the n-vertex quasi-tree graphs with the largest, the second-largest, the smallest and the second-smallest Hosoya indices, as well as those n-vertex quasi-tree graphs with k pendent vertices having the smallest Hosoya index.  相似文献

A unicyclic graph is a graph whose number of edges is equal to the number of vertices. Guo Shu-Guang [S.G. Guo, The largest Laplacian spectral radius of unicyclic graph, Appl. Math. J. Chinese Univ. Ser. A. 16 (2) (2001) 131–135] determined the first four largest Laplacian spectral radii together with the corresponding graphs among all unicyclic graphs on n vertices. In this paper, we extend this ordering by determining the fifth to the ninth largest Laplacian spectral radii together with the corresponding graphs among all unicyclic graphs on n vertices.  相似文献

Let G be any unicyclic Hückel molecular graph with Kekulé structures on n vertices where n≥8 is an even number. In [W. Wang, A. Chang, L. Zhang, D. Lu, Unicyclic Hückel molecular graphs with minimal energy, J. Math. Chem. 39 (1) (2006) 231-241], Wang et al. showed that if G satisfies certain conditions, then the energy of G is always greater than the energy of the radialene graph. Let 𝒰(n,?d) be the class of unicyclic graphs on n vertices with diameter d. This article presents an edge-grafting theorem on Laplacian spectra of graphs. By applying this theorem, we determine the unique graph with the maximum Laplacian spectral radius in 𝒰(n,?d). This extremal graph is different from that for the corresponding problem on the adjacency spectral radius as done by Liu et al. [Q. Liu, M. Lu, and F. Let G be a graph of order n and let be the characteristic polynomial of its Laplacian matrix. Generalizing the approach in [D. Stevanovi?, A. Ili?, On the Laplacian coefficients of unicyclic graphs, Linear Algebra and its Applications 430 (2009) 2290-2300.] on graph transformations, we show that among all bicyclic graphs of order n, the kth coefficient ck is smallest when the graph is Bn (obtained from C4 by adding one edge connecting two non-adjacent vertices and adding n−4 pendent vertices attached to the vertex of degree 3).  相似文献

The class of outerplanar graphs is used for testing the average complexity of algorithms on graphs. A random labeled outerplanar graph can be generated by a polynomial algorithm based on the results of an enumeration of such graphs. By a bicyclic (tricyclic) graph we mean a connected graph with cyclomatic number 2 (respectively, 3). We find explicit formulas for the number of labeled connected outerplanar bicyclic and tricyclic graphs with n vertices and also obtain asymptotics for the number of these graphs for large n. Moreover, we obtain explicit formulas for the number of labeled outerplanar bicyclic and tricyclic n-vertex blocks and deduce the corresponding asymptotics for large n.  相似文献

A close relation between hitting times of the simple random walk on a graph, the Kirchhoff index, the resistance-centrality, and related invariants of unicyclic graphs is displayed. Combining graph transformations and some other techniques, sharp upper and lower bounds on the cover cost (resp. reverse cover cost) of a vertex in an n-vertex unicyclic graph are determined. We study the problem of determining the graph with n vertices having largest signless Laplacian energy. We conjecture it is the complete split graph whose independent set has (roughly) 2n3 vertices. We show that the conjecture is true for several classes of graphs. In particular, the conjecture holds for the set of all complete split graphs of order n, for trees, for unicyclic and bicyclic graphs. We also give conditions on the number of edges, number of cycles and number of small eigenvalues so the graph satisfies the conjecture.  相似文献

It was conjectured that for each simple graph G=(V,E) with n=|V(G)| vertices and m=|E(G)| edges, it holds M2(G)/mM1(G)/n, where M1 and M2 are the first and second Zagreb indices. Hansen and Vuki?evi? proved that it is true for all chemical graphs and does not hold in general. Also the conjecture was proved for all trees, unicyclic graphs, and all bicyclic graphs except one class. In this paper, we show that for every positive integer k, there exists a connected graph such that mn=k and the conjecture does not hold. Moreover, by introducing some transformations, we show that M2/(m−1)>M1/n for all bicyclic graphs and it does not hold for general graphs. Using these transformations we give new and shorter proofs of some known results.  相似文献

The Laplacian spectral radius of a graph is the largest eigenvalue of the associated Laplacian matrix. In this paper, we provide structural and behavioral details of graphs with maximum Laplacian spectral radius among all bipartite connected graphs of given order and size. Using these results, we provide a unified approach to determine the graphs with maximum Laplacian spectral radii among all trees, and all bipartite unicyclic, bicyclic, tricyclic and quasi-tree graphs, respectively.  相似文献
