On bipartite zero-divisor graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A (finite or infinite) complete bipartite graph together with some end vertices all adjacent to a common vertex is called a complete bipartite graph with a horn. For any bipartite graph G, we show that G is the graph of a commutative semigroup with 0 if and only if it is one of the following graphs: star graph, two-star graph, complete bipartite graph, complete bipartite graph with a horn. We also prove that a zero-divisor graph is bipartite if and only if it contains no triangles. In addition, we give all corresponding zero-divisor semigroups of a class of complete bipartite graphs with a horn and determine which complete r-partite graphs with a horn have a corresponding semigroup for r≥3.  相似文献

We examine classes of extremal graphs for the inequality γ(G)?|V|-max{d(v)+βv(G)}, where γ(G) is the domination number of graph G, d(v) is the degree of vertex v, and βv(G) is the size of a largest matching in the subgraph of G induced by the non-neighbours of v. This inequality improves on the classical upper bound |V|-maxd(v) due to Claude Berge. We give a characterization of the bipartite graphs and of the chordal graphs that achieve equality in the inequality. The characterization implies that the extremal bipartite graphs can be recognized in polynomial time, while the corresponding problem remains NP-complete for the extremal chordal graphs.  相似文献

A forced cycleC of a graph G is a cycle in G such that G?V(C) has a unique perfect matching. A graph G is a cycle-forced graph if every cycle in G is a forced cycle. In this paper, we give a characterization of cycle-forced hamiltonian bipartite graphs.  相似文献

Associated to a simple undirected graph G is a simplicial complex ΔG whose faces correspond to the independent sets of G. We call a graph G shellable if ΔG is a shellable simplicial complex in the non-pure sense of Björner-Wachs. We are then interested in determining what families of graphs have the property that G is shellable. We show that all chordal graphs are shellable. Furthermore, we classify all the shellable bipartite graphs; they are precisely the sequentially Cohen-Macaulay bipartite graphs. We also give a recursive procedure to verify if a bipartite graph is shellable. Because shellable implies that the associated Stanley-Reisner ring is sequentially Cohen-Macaulay, our results complement and extend recent work on the problem of determining when the edge ideal of a graph is (sequentially) Cohen-Macaulay. We also give a new proof for a result of Faridi on the sequentially Cohen-Macaulayness of simplicial forests.  相似文献

Bipartite edge frustration of a graph is defined as the smallest number of edges that have to be deleted from the graph to obtain a bipartite spanning subgraph. We show that for fullerene graphs this quantity can be computed in polynomial time and obtain explicit formulas for the icosahedral fullerenes. We also report some computational results and discuss a potential application of this invariant in the context of fullerene stability.  相似文献

Mkrtchyan, Petrosyan, and Vardanyan made the following conjecture: Every graph G with Δ(G)−δ(G)≤1 has a maximum matching whose unsaturated vertices do not have a common neighbor. We disprove this conjecture.  相似文献

A graph is subcubic if its maximum degree is at most 3. The bipartite density of a graph G is defined as b(G)=max{|E(B)|/|E(G)|:B is a bipartite subgraph of G}. It was conjectured by Bondy and Locke that if G is a triangle-free subcubic graph, then and equality holds only if G is in a list of seven small graphs. The conjecture has been confirmed recently by Xu and Yu. This note gives a shorter proof of this result.  相似文献

An edge-coloring of a graph G with colors 1,2,…,t is called an interval (t,1)-coloring if at least one edge of G is colored by i, i=1,2,…,t, and the colors of edges incident to each vertex of G are distinct and form an interval of integers with no more than one gap. In this paper we investigate some properties of interval (t,1)-colorings. We also determine exact values of the least and the greatest possible number of colors in such colorings for some families of graphs.  相似文献

The strong chromatic index of a class of graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The strong chromatic index of a graph G is the minimum integer k such that the edge set of G can be partitioned into k induced matchings. Faudree et al. [R.J. Faudree, R.H. Schelp, A. Gyárfás, Zs. Tuza, The strong chromatic index of graphs, Ars Combin. 29B (1990) 205-211] proposed an open problem: If G is bipartite and if for each edge xyE(G), d(x)+d(y)≤5, then sχ(G)≤6. Let H0 be the graph obtained from a 5-cycle by adding a new vertex and joining it to two nonadjacent vertices of the 5-cycle. In this paper, we show that if G (not necessarily bipartite) is not isomorphic to H0 and d(x)+d(y)≤5 for any edge xy of G then sχ(G)≤6. The proof of the result implies a linear time algorithm to produce a strong edge coloring using at most 6 colors for such graphs.  相似文献

Let G=(X,Y) be a bipartite graph and define . Moon and Moser [J. Moon, L. Moser, On Hamiltonian bipartite graphs, Israel J. Math. 1 (1963) 163-165. MR 28 # 4540] showed that if G is a bipartite graph on 2n vertices such that , then G is hamiltonian, sharpening a classical result of Ore [O. Ore, A note on Hamilton circuits, Amer. Math. Monthly 67 (1960) 55] for bipartite graphs. Here we prove that if G is a bipartite graph on 2n vertices such that , then G contains k edge-disjoint hamiltonian cycles. This extends the result of Moon and Moser and a result of R. Faudree et al. [R. Faudree, C. Rousseau, R. Schelp, Edge-disjoint Hamiltonian cycles, Graph Theory Appl. Algorithms Comput. Sci. (1984) 231-249].  相似文献

The energy of a graph is the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of the graph. In a paper [G. Caporossi, D. Cvetkovi, I. Gutman, P. Hansen, Variable neighborhood search for extremal graphs. 2. Finding graphs with external energy, J. Chem. Inf. Comput. Sci. 39 (1999) 984-996] Caporossi et al. conjectured that among all connected graphs G with n≥6 vertices and n−1≤m≤2(n−2) edges, the graphs with minimum energy are the star Sn with mn+1 additional edges all connected to the same vertices for mn+⌊(n−7)/2⌋, and the bipartite graph with two vertices on one side, one of which is connected to all vertices on the other side, otherwise. The conjecture is proved to be true for m=n−1,2(n−2) in the same paper by Caporossi et al. themselves, and for m=n by Hou in [Y. Hou, Unicyclic graphs with minimal energy, J. Math. Chem. 29 (2001) 163-168]. In this paper, we give a complete solution for the second part of the conjecture on bipartite graphs. Moreover, we determine the graph with the second-minimal energy in all connected bipartite graphs with n vertices and edges.  相似文献

A secure dominating set X of a graph G is a dominating set with the property that each vertex uVGX is adjacent to a vertex vX such that (X−{v})∪{u} is dominating. The minimum cardinality of such a set is called the secure domination number, denoted by γs(G). We are interested in the effect of edge removal on γs(G), and characterize γs-ER-critical graphs, i.e. graphs for which γs(Ge)>γs(G) for any edge e of G, bipartite γs-ER-critical graphs and γs-ER-critical trees.  相似文献

This paper studies a variation of domination in graphs called rainbow domination. For a positive integer k, a k-rainbow dominating function of a graph G is a function f from V(G) to the set of all subsets of {1,2,…,k} such that for any vertex v with f(v)=0? we have ∪uNG(v)f(u)={1,2,…,k}. The 1-rainbow domination is the same as the ordinary domination. The k-rainbow domination problem is to determine the k-rainbow domination number of a graph G, that is the minimum value of ∑vV(G)|f(v)| where f runs over all k-rainbow dominating functions of G. In this paper, we prove that the k-rainbow domination problem is NP-complete even when restricted to chordal graphs or bipartite graphs. We then give a linear-time algorithm for the k-rainbow domination problem on trees. For a given tree T, we also determine the smallest k such that .  相似文献

On 2-factors with cycles containing specified edges in a bipartite graph   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let k≥1 be an integer and G=(V1,V2;E) a bipartite graph with |V1|=|V2|=n such that n≥2k+2. In this paper it has been proved that if for each pair of nonadjacent vertices xV1 and yV2, , then for any k independent edges e1,…,ek of G, G has a 2-factor with k+1 cycles C1,…,Ck+1 such that eiE(Ci) and |V(Ci)|=4 for each i∈{1,…,k}. We shall also show that the conditions in this paper are sharp.  相似文献

Let B, B1 and B2 be bipartite graphs, and let B→(B1,B2) signify that any red-blue edge-coloring of B contains either a red B1 or a blue B2. The size bipartite Ramsey number is defined as the minimum number of edges of a bipartite graph B such that B→(B1,B2). It is shown that is linear on n with m fixed, and is between c1n22n and c2n32n for some positive constants c1 and c2.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and A a nonempty subset (possibly containing the identity element) of G. The Bi-Cayley graph X=BC(G,A) of G with respect to A is defined as the bipartite graph with vertex set G×{0,1} and edge set {{(g,0),(sg,1)}∣gG,sA}. A graph Γ admitting a perfect matching is called n-extendable if ∣V(Γ)∣≥2n+2 and every matching of size n in Γ can be extended to a perfect matching of Γ. In this paper, the extendability of Bi-Cayley graphs of finite abelian groups is explored. In particular, 2-extendable and 3-extendable Bi-Cayley graphs of finite abelian groups are characterized.  相似文献

The strength of a graph G is the smallest integer s such that there exists a minimum sum coloring of G using integers {1,…,s}, only. For bipartite graphs of maximum degree Δ we show the following simple bound: s≤⌈Δ/2⌉+1. As a consequence, there exists a quadratic time algorithm for determining the strength and minimum color sum of bipartite graphs of maximum degree Δ≤4.  相似文献

Let F(n,e) be the collection of all simple graphs with n vertices and e edges, and for GF(n,e) let P(G;λ) be the chromatic polynomial of G. A graph GF(n,e) is said to be optimal if another graph HF(n,e) does not exist with P(H;λ)?P(G;λ) for all λ, with strict inequality holding for some λ. In this paper we derive necessary conditions for bipartite graphs to be optimal, and show that, contrarily to the case of lower bounds, one can find values of n and e for which optimal graphs are not unique. We also derive necessary conditions for bipartite graphs to have the greatest number of cycles of length 4.  相似文献
