Lim's theorems for multivalued mappings in CAT(0) spaces

Let X be a complete CAT(0) space. We prove that, if E is a nonempty bounded closed convex subset of X and a nonexpansive mapping satisfying the weakly inward condition, i.e., there exists p∈E such that ∀x∈E, ∀α∈[0,1], then T has a fixed point. In Banach spaces, this is a result of Lim [On asymptotic centers and fixed points of nonexpansive mappings, Canad. J. Math. 32 (1980) 421-430]. The related result for unbounded R-trees is given.     

Iterative approximation of a zero of accretive operator in Banach space

This paper introduces an iteration scheme for viscosity approximation of a zero of accretive operator in a reflexive Banach space with weakly continuous duality mapping. A new iterative sequence is introduced and strong convergence of the algorithm {x_n} is proved. The results improve and extend the results of Su [Xiaolong Qin, Yongfu Su, Approximation of a zero point of accretive operator in Banach spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 320 (2007) 415-424] and some others.     

Best simultaneous approximations, asymptotically nonexpansive mappings and variational inequalities in Banach spaces

The existence of common fixed points is established for three mappings where T is either generalized (f,g)-nonexpansive or asymptotically (f,g)-nonexpansive on a nonempty subset of a Banach space. As applications, the invariant best simultaneous approximation results are proved and the existence of solution of variational inequalities is obtained. Our results unify and substantially improve several recent results existing in the current literature.     

Convergence theorems for equilibrium problem, variational inequality problem and countably infinite relatively quasi-nonexpansive mappings

In this paper, we introduce an iterative process which converges strongly to a common element of set of common fixed points of countably infinite family of closed relatively quasi- nonexpansive mappings, the solution set of generalized equilibrium problem and the solution set of the variational inequality problem for a γ-inverse strongly monotone mapping in Banach spaces. Our theorems improve, generalize, unify and extend several results recently announced.     

Multiple positive solutions for a critical quasilinear elliptic system

The existence of cat_Ω(Ω) positive solutions for the p-Laplacian system with convex and Sobolev critical nonlinearities is obtained by some standard variational methods, whose key is to construct homotopies between Ω and levels of the functional J_λ,μ, and some analytical techniques.     

The proper interpolation space for multivariate Birkhoff interpolation

Multivariate Birkhoff interpolation problem has many important applications, such as in finite element method. In this paper two algorithms are given to compute the basis of the minimal interpolation space and the lower interpolation space respectively for an arbitrary given node set and the corresponding interpolation conditions on each node. We can get the monomial basis, Newton-type basis as well as Lagrange-type basis. The interpolation polynomial can be derived from the basis directly.     

Common fixed point theorem for hybrid generalized multi-valued contraction mappings

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a hybrid generalized multi-valued contraction mapping and establish the common fixed point theorem for this mapping. Our results generalize, unify, extend and complement several common fixed point theorems of many authors in the literature.     

Turán’s theorem inverted

In this note we complete an investigation started by Erd?s in 1963 that aims to find the strongest possible conclusion from the hypothesis of Turán’s theorem in extremal graph theory.Let be the complete r-partite graph with parts of sizes s₁≥2,s₂,…,s_r with an edge added to the first part. Letting t_r(n) be the number of edges of the r-partite Turán graph of order n, we prove that:For all r≥2 and all sufficiently small c>0, every graph of sufficiently large order n with t_r(n)+1 edges contains a .We also give a corresponding stability theorem and two supporting results of wider scope.     

Some generalizations of locally and weakly locally uniformly convex space

In this paper, we prove that strongly convex space and almost locally uniformly rotund space, very convex space and weakly almost locally uniformly rotund space are respectively equivalent. We also investigate a few properties of k-strongly convex space and k-very convex space, and discuss the applications of strongly convex space and very convex space in approximation theory.     

Faulhaber’s theorem on power sums

We observe that the classical Faulhaber’s theorem on sums of odd powers also holds for an arbitrary arithmetic progression, namely, the odd power sums of any arithmetic progression a+b,a+2b,…,a+nb is a polynomial in na+n(n+1)b/2. While this assertion can be deduced from the original Fauhalber’s theorem, we give an alternative formula in terms of the Bernoulli polynomials. Moreover, by utilizing the central factorial numbers as in the approach of Knuth, we derive formulas for r-fold sums of powers without resorting to the notion of r-reflective functions. We also provide formulas for the r-fold alternating sums of powers in terms of Euler polynomials.     

Vertex-transitive self-complementary uniform hypergraphs of prime order

For an integer n and a prime p, let . In this paper, we present a construction for vertex-transitive self-complementary k-uniform hypergraphs of order n for each integer n such that for every prime p, where ?=max{k₍₂₎,(k−1)₍₂₎}, and consequently we prove that the necessary conditions on the order of vertex-transitive self-complementary uniform hypergraphs of rank k=2^? or k=2^?+1 due to Potoňick and Šajna are sufficient. In addition, we use Burnside’s characterization of transitive groups of prime degree to characterize the structure of vertex-transitive self-complementary k-hypergraphs which have prime order p in the case where k=2^? or k=2^?+1 and , and we present an algorithm to generate all of these structures. We obtain a bound on the number of distinct vertex-transitive self-complementary graphs of prime order , up to isomorphism.     

A duality principle for groups

The duality principle for Gabor frames states that a Gabor sequence obtained by a time-frequency lattice is a frame for L²(Rd) if and only if the associated adjoint Gabor sequence is a Riesz sequence. We prove that this duality principle extends to any dual pairs of projective unitary representations of countable groups. We examine the existence problem of dual pairs and establish some connection with classification problems for II₁ factors. While in general such a pair may not exist for some groups, we show that such a dual pair always exists for every subrepresentation of the left regular unitary representation when G is an abelian infinite countable group or an amenable ICC group. For free groups with finitely many generators, the existence problem of such a dual pair is equivalent to the well-known problem about the classification of free group von Neumann algebras.     

Stability of Pexiderized quadratic functional equation in intuitionistic fuzzy normed space

The object of the present paper is to determine the stability of the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias type theorem concerning the Pexiderized quadratic functional equation in intuitionistic fuzzy normed spaces (IFNS).     

Periodic and subharmonic solutions for a class of non-autonomous Hamiltonian systems

Some existence theorems are obtained for periodic and subharmonic solutions of a class of non-autonomous Hamiltonian systems. Our technical approach is based on a version of the Local Linking Theorem, and the Generalized Mountain Pass Theorem.     

Biholomorphic mappings on bounded starlike circular domains

Let Ω⊂Cn be a bounded starlike circular domain with 0∈Ω. In this paper, we introduce a class of holomorphic mappings Mg on Ω. Let f(z) be a normalized locally biholomorphic mapping on Ω such that and z=0 is the zero of order k+1 of f(z)−z. We obtain a sharp growth theorem and sharp coefficient bounds for f(z). As applications, sharp distortion theorems for a subclass of starlike mappings are obtained. These results unify and generalize many known results.     

Asymptotic periodicity for some evolution equations in Banach spaces

This work deals with the existence and uniqueness of pseudo-almost periodic and asymptotically ω-periodic mild solutions to some evolution equations in Banach spaces.     

A superlinear space decomposition algorithm for constrained nonsmooth convex program

A class of constrained nonsmooth convex optimization problems, that is, piecewise C² convex objectives with smooth convex inequality constraints are transformed into unconstrained nonsmooth convex programs with the help of exact penalty function. The objective functions of these unconstrained programs are particular cases of functions with primal-dual gradient structure which has connection with VU space decomposition. Then a VU space decomposition method for solving this unconstrained program is presented. This method is proved to converge with local superlinear rate under certain assumptions. An illustrative example is given to show how this method works.
