Novel amphiphilic fluorinated ABC‐type triblock copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO), hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt), and hydrophobic/lipophobic poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr as a catalyst system. The bromide‐terminated diblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐Br) were prepared by the ATRP of styrene initiated with the macroinitiator MeOPEO‐Br, which was obtained by the esterification of poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO) with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. A fluorinated block of poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) was then introduced into the diblock copolymer by a second ATRP process to synthesize a novel ABC‐type triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA). These block copolymers were characterized by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Water contact angle measurements revealed that the polymeric coating of the triblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA) shows more hydrophobic than that of the corresponding diblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt). Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as a model protein to evaluate the protein adsorption property and the triblock copolymer coating posseses excellent protein‐resistant character prior to the corresponding diblock copolymer and polydimethylsiloxane. These amphiphilic fluoropolymers can expect to have potential applications for antifouling coatings and antifouling membranes. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biocompatible and biodegradable ABC and ABCBA triblock and pentablock copolymers composed of poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(L ‐lactide) (PLA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEO) with controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities were synthesized by a click conjugation between alkyne‐terminated PCL‐b‐PLA and azide‐terminated PEO. Their molecular structures, physicochemical and self‐assembly properties were thoroughly characterized by means of FT‐IR, 1H‐NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. These copolymers formed microphase‐separated crystalline materials in solid state, where the crystallization of PCL block was greatly restricted by both PEO and PLA blocks. These copolymers self‐assembled into starlike and flowerlike micelles with a spherical morphology, and the micelles were stable over 27 days in aqueous solution at 37 °C. The doxorubicin (DOX) drug‐loaded nanoparticles showed a bigger size with a similar spherical morphology compared to blank nanoparticles, demonstrating a biphasic drug‐release profile in buffer solution and at 37 °C. Moreover, the DOX‐loaded nanoparticles fabricated from the pentablock copolymer sustained a longer drug‐release period (25 days) at pH 7.4 than those of the triblock copolymer. The blank nanoparticles showed good cell viability, whereas the DOX‐loaded nanoparticles killed fewer cells than free DOX, suggesting a controlled drug‐release effect. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Rod‐coil‐rod triblock copolymers, poly[4′‐(methoxy)‐2‐vinylbiphenyl‐4‐methyl ether] ‐blockpolydimethylsiloxane‐block‐poly[4′‐(methoxy)‐2‐vinylbiphenyl‐4‐methyl ether] (PMVBP‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PMVBP), were synthesized by nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization, and their hierarchically ordered structures were studied. A difunctional TEMPO macroinitiator was first synthesized by the hydrosilylation reaction between hydride‐endcapped PDMS and allylic alkoxyamine. The polymerization of the monomer MVBP was triggered by the macroinitiator, resulting in a series of triblock copolymers. The molecular weights and polydispersity indexes were determined by gel permeation chromatography. Differential scanning calorimetry results demonstrate that the triblock copolymers exhibit two glass transition temperatures (?120 °C and 160 °C) that are markedly different. As revealed by small‐angle X‐ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy experiments, the triblock copolymers self‐assemble into hierarchical structures with the liquid crystalline phase of PMVBP in the lamellar structures. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic triblock copolymers, poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐PHEMA), were synthesized via successive atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). ATRP of tBA was first initiated by PEG‐Br macroinitiator using CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N′″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as catalytic system to give PEG‐b‐PtBA diblock copolymer. This copolymer was then used as macroinitiator to initiate ATRP of HEMA, which afforded the target triblock copolymer, PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐PHEMA. The critical micelle concentrations of obtained amphiphilic triblock copolymers were determined by fluorescence spectroscopy using N‐phenyl‐1‐naphthylamine as probe. The morphology and size of formed aggregates were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, respectively. Finally, an acid‐sensitive PEG‐b‐PtBA‐b‐P(HEMA‐CAD) prodrug via cis‐aconityl linkage between doxorubicin and hydroxyls of triblock copolymers with a high drug loading content up to 38%, was prepared to preliminarily explore the application of triblock copolymer in drug delivery. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydrogen bonding interactions, phase behavior, crystallization, and surface hydrophobicity in nanostructured blend of bisphenol A‐type epoxy resin (ER), for example, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(dimethyl siloxane)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL–PDMS–PCL) triblock copolymer were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, transmission electron microscopy, small‐angle X‐ray scattering, and contact angle measurements. The PCL–PDMS–PCL triblock copolymer consisted of two epoxy‐miscible PCL blocks and an epoxy‐immiscible PDMS block. The cured ER/PCL–PDMS–PCL blends showed composition‐dependent nanostructures from spherical and worm‐like microdomains to lamellar morphology. FTIR study revealed the existence of hydrogen bonding interactions between the PCL blocks and the cured epoxy, which was responsible for their miscibility. The overall crystallization rate of the PCL blocks in the blend decreased remarkably with increasing ER content, whereas the melting point was slightly depressed in the blends. The surface hydrophobicity of the cured ER increased upon addition of the block copolymer, whereas the surface free energy (γs) values decreased with increasing block copolymer concentration. The hydrophilicity of the epoxy could be reduced through blending with the PCL–PDMS–PCL block copolymer that contained a hydrophobic PDMS block. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of a new family of amphiphilic multiblock and triblock copolymers is described. The synthetic methodology rests on the preparation of telechelic multifunctional and difunctional chain transfer agents easily available in two synthetic steps from commercially available polydimethylsiloxane‐containing starting materials. Telechelic polymers thus synthesized are used as macromolecular chain transfer agents in the reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMA) enabling the synthesis of (AB)n‐type multiblock and ABA‐type triblock copolymers of varying compositions possessing monomodal molecular weight distribution. (AB)n multiblock copolymers [(PDMA‐b‐PDMS)n] were prepared with between 52 and 95 wt % poly(dimethylacrylamide) with number average molecular weights (Mn) between 14,000 and 86,000 (polydispersities of 1.20–2.30). On the other hand, ABA block copolymers with DMA led to amphiphilic block copolymers (PDMA‐b‐PDMS‐b‐PDMA) with Mn values between 9000 and 44,000 (polydispersities of 1.24–1.62). © Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present herein a mild and rapid method to create diblock copolymer brushes on a silicon surface via photoinitiated “thiol‐ene” click reaction. The silicon surface was modified with 3‐mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) self‐assembled monolayer. Then, a mixture of divinyl‐terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and photoinitiator was spin‐coated on the MPTMS surface and exposed to UV‐light. Thereafter, a mixture of thiol‐terminated polyethylene glycol (PEG) and photoinitiator were spin‐coated on the vinyl‐terminated PDMS‐treated surface, and the sequent photopolymerization was carried out under UV‐irradiation. The MPTMS, PDMS, and PEG layers were carefully identified by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, ellipsometry, and water contact angle measurements. The thickness of the polydimethylsiloxane‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PDMS‐b‐PEG) diblock copolymer brush could be controlled by the irradiation time. The responsive behavior of diblock copolymer brushes treated in different solvents was also discussed. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

The syntheses of {‐poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA)‐b‐polyisobutylene (PIB)‐}n multiblock copolymers were accomplished for the first time by chain extension of PLLA‐b‐PIB‐b‐PLLA triblock copolymers. Well‐defined PLLA‐b‐PIB‐b‐PLLA triblock copolymers with predictable Mns, low PDIs (1.10–1.18) and excellent blocking efficiencies were prepared by anionic ring‐opening polymerizations of L ‐lactide initiated with hydroxyallyl telechelic PIB (HO‐Allyl‐PIB‐Allyl‐OH) in toluene at 110 °C. The triblock copolymers were successfully chain extended with 4,4′‐methylenebis(phenylisocyanate) (MDI) to obtain the multiblock copolymers with good gravimetric yields of ~86 to 96%. The chain‐extended polymers were soluble in a range of common organic solvents. The block copolymers showed two glass transition temperatures in differential scanning calorimetric analysis for the PIB and PLLA blocks indicating microphase separation, which was supported by atomic force microscopy images. The as‐synthesized compression molded multiblock copolymers exhibited tensile strengths in the range of 8–24 MPa with elongations at break in the range of 2.5–400%. The static and dynamic mechanical properties showed a strong dependence on the relative PLLA content in the copolymer. The dynamic mechanical analysis also indicated microphase separation at higher PLLA compositions. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 3490–3505, 2009  相似文献

In this article, the synthesis and self‐assembly of a novel well‐defined biocompatible amphiphilic POEGMA‐PDMS‐POEGMA triblock copolymer were studied. The copolymer was synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (OEGMA) using α,ω‐dibromo polydimethylsiloxane macroinitiator (Br‐PDMS‐Br). Br‐PDMS‐Br was synthesized through the esterification of α,ω‐hydroxypropyl polydimethylsiloxane and 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. The structures of the copolymers were confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. The copolymers showed reversible aggregation in response to temperature cycles with a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) between 61 and 66 °C, as determined by ultraviolet‐visible spectrophotometry and dynamic light scattering. The LCST values increased in proportion to the length of the hydrophilic block and were lower than that of the POEGMA homopolymer. The self‐assembly behavior of the copolymers in aqueous solution was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The critical micelle concentration value (1.08–0.26 10?6 mol L?1) decreased as the length of the POEGMA chain increased. The POEGMA‐PDMS‐POEGMA copolymers can easily self‐assemble into spherical micelles in aqueous solution. Such biocompatible block copolymers may be attractive candidates as ‘‘smart'' thermo‐responsive drug delivery systems. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(1H,1H‐dihydro perfluorooctyl methacrylate) (P3HT‐b‐PFOMA) diblock copolymers were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization of fluorooctyl methacrylate using bromoester terminated poly(3‐hexylthiophene) macroinitiators in order to investigate their morphological properties. The P3HT macroinitiator was previously prepared by chemical modification of hydroxy terminated P3HT. The block copolymers were well characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the nanostructured morphology of the diblock copolymers. The block copolymers are able to undergo microphase separation and self‐assemble into well‐defined and organized nanofibrillar‐like micellar morphology. The development of the morphology of P3HT‐b‐PFOMA block copolymers was investigated after annealing in solvent vapor and also in supercritical CO2. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triblock copolymers of N‐vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) were synthesized by reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using two different types of difunctional telechelic PDMS‐based dixanthate macroinitiators. The incorporation of PDMS into the triblock copolymers was evidenced by 1H NMR spectroscopy and varied between 4 mol % and as high as 20 mol %, dependent on reaction time and monomer conversion. The copolymer homogeneity was characterized in terms of molecular weight distribution determined by GPC to estimate the level of control over the chain length. Monomodal molecular weight distributions were observed, and 1H NMR spectroscopy indicated the copolymers had number average molecular weights (Mn) ranging between 28,000 and 160,000 g/mol. In addition, thin film phase separation and critical micelle concentrations for these copolymers were analyzed via transmission electron microscopy and surface tension measurements, respectively. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal properties, crystallization, and morphology of amphiphilic poly(D ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PDLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) and poly (L ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) copolymers were studied and compared to those of the corresponding poly(lactide) homopolymers. Additionally, stereocomplexation of these copolymers was studied. The crystallization kinetics of the PLA blocks was retarded by the presence of the PDMAEMA block. The studied copolymers were found to be miscible in the melt and the glassy state. The Avrami theory was able to predict the entire crystallization range of the PLA isothermal overall crystallization. The melting points of PLDA/PLLA and PLA/PLA‐b‐PDMAEMA stereocomplexes were higher than those formed by copolymer mixtures. This indicates that the PDMAEMA block is influencing the stability of the stereocomplex structures. For the low molecular weight samples, the stereocomplexes particles exhibited a conventional disk‐shape structure and, for high molecular weight samples, the particles displayed unusual star‐like shape morphology. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article demonstrates the successful fabrication of thin‐film‐composite (TFC) membranes containing well‐defined soft‐hard‐soft triblock copolymers. Based on “hard” polyimide (PI) and “soft” polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), these triblock copolymers (PDMS‐b‐PI‐b‐PDMS), were prepared via condensation polymerization, and end‐group allylic functionalization to prepare the polyimide component and subsequent “click” coupling with the soft azido functionalized PDMS component. The selective layer consisted of pure PDMS‐b‐PI‐b‐PDMS copolymers which were cast onto a precast crosslinked‐PDMS gutter layer which in turn was cast onto a porous polyacrylonitrile coated substrate. The TFC membranes' gas transport properties, primarily for the separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) from nitrogen (N2), were determined at 35 °C and at a feed pressure of 2 atm. The TFC membranes showed improvements in gas permselectivity with increasing PDMS weight fraction. These results demonstrate the ability for glassy, hard polymer components to be coated onto otherwise incompatible surfaces of highly permeable soft TFC substrates through covalent coupling. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABCBA‐type pentablock copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA), styrene (S), and isobutylene (IB) were prepared by a three‐step synthesis, which included atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and cationic polymerization: (1) poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) with terminal chlorine atoms was prepared by ATRP initiated with an aromatic difunctional initiator bearing two trichloromethyl groups under CuCl/2,2′‐bipyridine catalysis; (2) PMMA with the same catalyst was used for ATRP of styrene, which produced a poly(S‐b‐MMA‐b‐S) triblock copolymer; and (3) IB was polymerized cationically in the presence of the aforementioned triblock copolymer and BCl3, and this produced a poly(IB‐b‐S‐b‐MMA‐b‐S‐b‐IB) pentablock copolymer. The reaction temperature, varied from ?78 to ?25 °C, significantly affected the IB content in the product; the highest was obtained at ?25 °C. The formation of a pentablock copolymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution provided direct evidence of the presence of active chlorine at the ends of the poly(S‐b‐MMA‐b‐S) triblock copolymer, capable of the initiation of the cationic polymerization of IB in the presence of BCl3. A differential scanning calorimetry trace of the pentablock copolymer (20.1 mol % IB) showed the glass‐transition temperatures of three segregated domains, that is, polyisobutylene (?87.4 °C), polystyrene (95.6 °C), and PMMA (103.7 °C) blocks. One glass‐transition temperature (104.5 °C) was observed for the aforementioned triblock copolymer. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 6098–6108, 2004  相似文献

The structure–property relationships of isotactic polypropylene (iPP)/styrenic block copolymer blends filled with talc were examined by optical and scanning electron microscopy, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, and tensile‐ and impact strength measurements. The composites were analyzed as a function of the poly(styrene‐b‐ethylene‐co‐propylene) diblock copolymer (SEP) and the poly(styrene‐b‐butadiene‐b‐styrene) triblock copolymer (SBS) content in the range from 0 to 20 vol % as elastomeric components and with 12 vol % of aminosilane surface‐treated talc as a filler. Talc crystals incorporated in the iPP matrix accommodated mostly plane‐parallel to the surface of the samples and strongly affected the crystallization process of the iPP matrix. The SBS block copolymer disoriented plane‐parallel talc crystals more significantly than the SEP block copolymer. The mechanical properties depended on the final phase morphology of the investigated iPP blends and composites and supermolecular structure of the iPP matrix because of the interactivity between their components. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ethylene‐alt‐propylene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PEP‐PEO) diblock copolymers were synthesized and added at 4 wt % to 2,2‐bis[4‐(2‐hydroxy‐3‐methacryloxypropoxy)phenyl]propane (BisGMA), a monomer that cures using free radical chemistry. In separate experiments, poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) was combined as a secondary monomer with BisGMA and the monomers were loaded with 4 wt % PEP‐PEO. The diblock copolymers self‐assembled into well‐dispersed spherical micelles with PEP cores and PEO coronas. No appreciable change in the final extent of cure of the thermosets was caused by the addition of diblock copolymer, except in the case of BisGMA, where the addition of the block copolymer increased extent of cure by 12%. Furthermore, the extent of cure was increased by 29% and 37% with the addition of 25 and 50 wt % PEGDMA, respectively. Elastic modulus and fracture resistance were also determined, and the values indicate that the addition of block copolymers does not significantly toughen the thermoset materials. This finding is surprising when compared with the large increase in fracture resistance seen in block copolymer‐modified epoxies, and an explanation is proposed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABCBA‐type pentablock copolymers of methyl methacrylate, styrene, and isobutylene (IB) were prepared by the cationic polymerization of IB in the presence of the α,ω‐dichloro‐PS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS triblock copolymer [where PS is polystyrene and PMMA is poly(methyl methacrylate)] as a macroinitiator in conjunction with diethylaluminum chloride (Et2AlCl) as a coinitiator. The macroinitiator was prepared by a two‐step copper‐based atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The reaction temperature, ?78 or ?25 °C, significantly affected the IB content in the resulting copolymers; a higher content was obtained at ?78 °C. The formation of the PIB‐b‐PS‐b‐PMMA‐b‐PS‐b‐PIB copolymers (where PIB is polyisobutylene), prepared at ?25 (20.3 mol % IB) or ?78 °C (61.3 mol % IB; rubbery material), with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions provided direct evidence of the presence of labile chlorine atoms at both ends of the macroinitiator capable of initiation of cationic polymerization of IB. One glass‐transition temperature (Tg), 104.5 °C, was observed for the aforementioned triblock copolymer, and the pentablock copolymer containing 61.3 mol % IB showed two well‐defined Tg's: ?73.0 °C for PIB and 95.6 °C for the PS–PMMA blocks. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel block copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (P3HT‐b‐PEO) were synthesized via Suzuki coupling reaction of P3HT and PEO homopolymers. The copolymers were characterized by NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimeter, and UV–vis measurements. A series of devices based on the block copolymers with a fullerene derivative were evaluated after thermal or solvent annealing. The device using P3HT‐b‐PEO showed higher efficiency than using P3HT blend after thermal annealing. Phase‐separated structures in the thin films of block copolymer blends were investigated by atomic force microscopy to clarify the relationship between morphologies constructed by annealing and the device performance. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic triblock copolymers [polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether]‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (mPEG‐b‐PCL‐b‐PDMAEMA or abbreviated as mPEG‐b‐PCL‐b‐PDMA) were prepared by a combination of ring‐opening polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization. The chemical structures and compositions of these copolymers have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis. The molecular weights of the triblock copolymers were obtained by calculating from 1H NMR spectra and gel permeation chromatography measurements. Subsequently, the self‐assembly behavior of these copolymers was investigated by fluorescence probe method and transmission electron microscopy, which indicated that these amphiphilic triblock copolymers possess distinct pH‐dependent critical aggregation concentrations and can self‐assemble into micelles or vesicles in PBS buffer solution, depending on the length of PDMA in the copolymer. Agarose gel retardation assays demonstrated that these cationic nanoparticles can effectively condense plasmid DNA. Cell toxicity tests indicated that these triblock copolymers displayed lower cytotoxicity than that of branched polyethylenimine with molecular weight of 25 kDa. In addition, in vitro release of Naproxen from these nanoparticles in pH buffer solutions was conducted, demonstrating that higher PCL content would result in the higher drug loading content and lower release rate. These biodegradable and biocompatible cationic copolymers have potential applications in drug and gene delivery. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nontoxic and biodegradable poly(?‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(?‐caprolactone) triblock copolymers were synthesized by the solution polymerization of ?‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol). The chemical structure of the resulting triblock copolymer was characterized with 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. In aqueous solutions of the triblock copolymers, the micellization and sol–gel‐transition behaviors were investigated. The experimental results showed that the unimer‐to‐micelle transition did occur. In a sol–gel‐transition phase diagram obtained by the vial‐tilting method, the boundary curve shifted to the left, and the gel regions expanded with the increasing molecular weight of the poly(?‐caprolactone) block. In addition, the hydrodynamic diameters of the micelles were almost independent of the investigated temperature (25–55 °C). The atomic force microscopy results showed that spherical micelles formed at the copolymer concentration of 2.5 × 10?4 g/mL, whereas necklace‐like and worm‐like shapes were adopted when the concentration was 0.25 g/mL, which was high enough to form a gel. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
