The generation of MHz elastic waves by means of thermoelastic expansions is described. Several multilayered structures are described which use constrained boundary conditions at the energy absorbing surface. Elastic waves of sufficient amplitude can be generated to be useful for non-destructive testing applications. Biomedical ultrasonics using thermoelastically generated MHz waves will also be discussed.  相似文献

Properties of circumferential and helical normal waves of a cylindrical waveguide, which appear as aperiodic (in angle) solutions to the Helmholtz equation, are considered. The dispersion characteristics and eigenfunctions of these wave are determined for the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, and the spatial structure of these waves is described in detail. The properties of helical waves in a free space with cylindrical symmetry are considered.  相似文献

Some recent results in computational approaches to thermally activated fast reversal in magnetic recording media are reviewed. In particular, recent results reported in the simulation of pulsed-field-induced magnetisation reversal and thermal activation of spin waves are described. The short time scale breakdown of the Arrhenius–Néel law for a single moment is demonstrated and explained in terms of the dynamics of the precessional motion. The variation in response as a function of the damping parameter is found to be an important factor determining the remanent magnetisation for a given pulse width. The effects of interactions between moments are described, including the apparent increase in effective damping. It is shown that interactions between moments can be described in terms of thermally excited spin waves. The spectrum of relaxation times for systems consisting of coupled moments is explained in terms of the thermal excitation of spin waves.  相似文献

The modelling of nonlinear surface gravity waves under shallow-water conditions with account of dispersion is described in this study. On the basis of the analytic expressions obtained for the horizontal velocity of medium particles, the profile evolution of nonlinear surface gravity waves during its propagation under shallow-water conditions is described. Transverse acoustic waves that occur at the boundary of two piezoelectric halfspaces separated by a viscoelastic liquid layer are studied theoretically. Three variants of layered structures with different numbers of metallized interfaces are considered. It is demonstrated that two types of waves exist in each of these structures. The waves are localized near the boundaries and differ in both their structure and the dependences of the complex wave numbers on the frequency or the gap width. The properties of this family of shear horizontal waves are described.  相似文献

Rogue waves have been observed in superfluid helium. The experimental system consists of high intensity second sound (temperature-entropy) waves within a resonant cavity. Under steady state conditions, with a constant oscillatory driving force at the resonant frequency, the waves are turbulent and there are fluxes of energy towards both high and low frequencies. Rogue waves appear under the nonequilibrium conditions that prevail shortly after the drive has been switched on, prior to establishment of the steady state. The experiment is described briefly, relevant results are presented and discussed theoretically in terms of nonlinear wave interactions, and possible connections to rogue waves on the ocean are considered.  相似文献

The sources of systematic errors in measuring the amplitude and propagation velocity of normal waves are analyzed. Criteria are proposed for estimating the distances beyond which a wave can be considered a normal wave. The measurement method and corresponding experimental setup are described. Experimental estimates are obtained for the distances necessary for the formation of symmetric zero modes of horizontally polarized normal waves and Lamb waves in thin strips at frequencies of 1.8 and 2.5 MHz.  相似文献

It is shown that a new type of self-similar spherical ionization waves may exist in gases. All the spatial scales and the propagation velocity of such waves increase exponentially with time. The conditions for existence of these waves are established, their structure is described, and approximate analytical relationships between the principal parameters are obtained. It is notable that spherical ionization waves can serve as the simplest, but structurally complete and physically transparent model of a streamer in a homogeneous electric field.  相似文献

The study of intense waves in soft biological tissues is necessary both for diagnostics and therapeutic aims. Tissue represents an inherited medium with frequency-dependent dissipative properties, in which waves are described by nonlinear integro-differential equations. The equations for such waves are well known. Their group analysis has been performed, and a number of exact solutions have been found. However, statistical problems for nonlinear waves in tissues have hardly been studied. As well, for medical applications, both intense noise waves and waves with fluctuating parameters can be used. In addition, statistical solutions are simpler in structure than regular solutions; they are useful for understanding the physics of processes. Below a general approach is described for solving nonlinear statistical problems applied to the considered mathematical models of biological tissues. We have calculated the dependences of the intensities of the narrowband noise harmonics on distance. For wideband noise, we have calculated the dependence of the spectral integral intensity on distance. In all cases, wave attenuation is determined both by the specific dissipative properties of the tissue and the nonlinearity of the medium.  相似文献

We analyze the nonlinear dynamics near the incoherent state in a mean-field model of coupled oscillators. The population is described by a Fokker-Planck equation for the distribution of phases, and we apply center-manifold reduction to obtain the amplitude equations for steady-state and Hopf bifurcation from the equilibrium state with a uniform phase distribution. When the population is described by a native frequency distribution that is reflection-symmetric about zero, the problem has circular symmetry. In the limit of zero extrinsic noise, although the critical eigenvalues are embedded in the continuous spectrum, the nonlinear coefficients in the amplitude equation remain finite, in contrast to the singular behavior found in similar instabilities described by the Vlasov-Poisson equation. For a bimodal reflection-symmetric distribution, both types of bifurcation are possible and they coincide at a codimension-two Takens-Bogdanov point. The steady-state bifurcation may be supercritical or subcritical and produces a time-independent synchronized state. The Hopf bifurcation produces both supercritical stable standing waves and supercritical unstable traveling waves. Previous work on the Hopf bifurcation in a bimodal population by Bonilla, Neu, and Spigler and by Okuda and Kuramoto predicted stable traveling waves and stable standing waves, respectively. A comparison to these previous calculations shows that the prediction of stable traveling waves results from a failure to include all unstable modes.  相似文献

The excitation characteristics and spatial coherence of partially coherent optical waves in gradient fibres are demonstrated for incident light waves radiated from semiconductor lasers and light emitting diodes. Lower modes are efficiently excited in the case of coherent laser beams, while incident waves of low coherence such as lightwaves of LEDs excite higher modes. Pulse propagation of partially coherent optical waves in dispersive gradient fibres is also discussed for random index fluctuations. Mode coupled equations for temporal correlation functions of the electric field that are generalizations of coupled power equations are found. Mode filtering and pulse improvement with a lossy inhomogeneous cladding are described.  相似文献

We study the interaction between breather and N-order rogue waves in a nonlinear optical fiber.The impacts of the relative phase and the interaction distance between breathers and rogue waves are discussed in detail.Specifically,the breather can reduce the maximum hump value of high-order rogue waves greatly in the cases of nonzero relative phase or nonzero interaction distance.The characteristic of exclusion between breathers and rogue waves is described qualitatively in the situation of different interaction distances,which can be used to change the temporal-spatial distribution of rogue waves.Their interaction properties are characterized by the trajectory of localized waves' valleys and humps.It is shown that the interaction changes the dynamical evolution trajectory of rogue waves and breathers.These results provide some possible ways to control high-order rogue waves.  相似文献

Existence of traveling waves propagating without internal reflection in inclined water channels of arbitrary slope is demonstrated. It is shown that traveling non-monochromatic waves exist in both linear and nonlinear shallow water theories in the case of a uniformly inclined channel with a parabolic cross-section. The properties of these waves are studied. It is shown that linear traveling waves should have a sign-variable shape. The amplitude of linear traveling waves in a channel satisfies the same Green's law, which is usually derived from the energy flux conservation for smoothly inhomogeneous media. Amplitudes of nonlinear traveling waves deviate from the linear Green's law, and the behavior of positive and negative amplitudes are different. Negative amplitude grows faster than positive amplitude in shallow water. The phase of nonlinear waves (travel time) is described well by the linear WKB approach. It is shown that nonlinear traveling waves of any amplitude always break near the shoreline if the boundary condition of the full absorption is applied.  相似文献

In this paper, a systematic, overall view of theories for periodic waves of permanent form, such as Stokes and cnoidal waves, is described first with their validity ranges. To deal with random waves, a method for estimating directional spectra is given. Then, various wave equations are introduced according to the assumptions included in their derivations. The mild-slope equation is derived for combined refraction and diffraction of linear periodic waves. Various parabolic approximations and time-dependent forms are proposed to include randomness and nonlinearity of waves as well as to simplify numerical calculation. Boussinesq equations are the equations developed for calculating nonlinear wave transformations in shallow water. Nonlinear mild-slope equations are derived as a set of wave equations to predict transformation of nonlinear random waves in the nearshore region. Finally, wave equations are classified systematically for a clear theoretical understanding and appropriate selection for specific applications.  相似文献
