Muskat Problem with Surface Tension

In this paper, we consider Muskat problem with surface tension at the free boundary. Under the natural conditions, we prove tbe existence of classical solution locally in time by Schauder fixed point theorem.     

A Quasisteady Stefan Problem with Curvature Correction and Kinetic Undercooling

A quasisteady Stefan problem with curvature correction and kinetic undercooling is considered. It is a problem with phase transition, in which not only the Stefan condition, but also the curvature correction and kinetic undercooling effect hold on the free boundary, and in phase regions elliptic equations are satisfied by the unknown temperature at each time. The existence and uniqueness of a local classical solution of this problem are obtained.     

Two-Phase Stefan Problem as the Limit Case of Two-Phase Stefan Problem with Kinetic Condition

Both one-dimensional two-phase Stefan problem with the thermodynamic equilibrium condition u(R(t),t)=0 and with the kinetic rule u_ε(R_ε(t),t)=εR_ε′(t) at the moving boundary are considered. We prove, when ε approaches zero, R_ε(t) converges to R(t) in C^1+δ/2[0,T] for any finite T>0, 0<δ<1.

We develop a high-order energy method to prove asymptotic stability of flat steady surfaces for the Stefan problem with surface tension – also known as the Stefan problem with Gibbs–Thomson correction.     

Determination of the Unknown Boundary Conditions in a Two-phase Stefan Problem

A two-phase Stefan problem with the heat flux boundary conditions, including an unknown function f, is considered. The existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence upon the initial data of the solution (f, s, u_1, u_2) are proved.

This paper deals with the degenerate Stefan problem with Joule's heating, which describes the combined effects of heat and electrical current Rows in a metal. The local existence of a bounded weak solution for the problem in proved. Also a degenerate thermistor problem with continuous conductivity is considered.

On the Modified Crystalline Stefan Problem with Singular Data

We study the behavior of solutions of the modified Stefan problem in the plane for polygonal interfaces. We are particularly interested in a solution near a singularity of either the loss of a facet or the breaking of a facet. We establish precise regularity results if a facet disappears. We use them to establish the existence of a weak solution with singular data, i.e., when some of the zero-crystalline-curvature facets have zero length.

Pricing kthrealization derivatives and collateralized debt obligation with multivariate Fréchet copula

Copula method has been widely applied to model the correlation among underlying assets in financial market. In this paper, we propose to use the multivariate Fréchet copula family presented in J. P. Yang et al. [Insurance Math. Econom., 2009, 45: 139–147] to price multivariate financial instruments whose payoffs depend on the k^th realization of the underlying assets and collateralized debt obligation (CDO). The advantage of the multivariate Fréchet copula is discussed. Empirical study shows that such copula family gives a better fitting to CDO’s market price than Gaussian copula for some derivatives.

The use of linear approximation scheme for solving the Stefan problem

This paper deals with the linear approximation scheme to approximate a singular parabolic problem: the two-phase Stefan problem on a domain consisting of two components with imperfect contact. The results of some numerical experiments and comparisons are presented. The method was used to determine the temperature of steel in the process of continuous casting.

The Stabilizing Effect of Surface Tension on the Development of the Free Boundary in a Planar, One-dimensional, Cauchy-Stefan Problem

A generalized Stefan problem which includes surface tensionis presented as a mathematical model for the growth and meltingof a solid. It is shown that planar melting is linearly morphologicallystable with or without surface tension, while planar solidificationis unstable without surface tension and is stabilized with itsinclusion. The technique used is an adaptation to this situationof Rubinstein's recent work on the one-dimensional, two-phaseproblem without surface tension.     

The Solution of a Free Boundary Problem Related to Environmental Management Systems

Abstract

Explicit solutions of free boundary problems are notoriously difficult to find. In this article, we consider two log-normal diffusions. One represents the level of pollution, or degradation, in some environmental area. The second models the social, political, or financial cost of the pollution. A single control parameter is considered that reduces the rate of pollution. The optimal time to implement the change in the parameter is found by explicitly solving a free boundary problem. The novelty is that the smooth pasting conditions, which are difficult to justify, are not used in the derivation.

Convergence to the Stefan problem of the phase relaxation problem with Cattaneo heat flux law

In this paper we show that the solutions of the phase change problem with the Cattaneo-Fourier heat flux law and phase relaxation, converge to the solution of the Stefan problem as the two relaxation parameters go independently to zero.
