On a W*-algebra M, for given two positive linear forms , M + * and algebra elements a, b M, a variational expression for the Bures distance d B( a , b ) between the inner derived positive linear forms a =(a *·a) and b =(b *·b) is obtained. Along with the proof of the formula, also an earlier result of S. Gudder on noncommutative probability will be slighly extended. Also, the given expression of the Bures distance relates nicely to the system of seminorms proposed by D. Buchholz which occurs, along with the problem of estimating the so-called `weak intertwiners", in algebraic quantum field theory. In the last section, some optimization problem will be considered.  相似文献

We associate to any length function L on a group a space of rapidly decreasing functions on (in the l 2 sense), denoted by H L (). When H L () is contained in the reduced C*-algebra C r * () of (), then it is a dense *-subalgebra of C r * () and we prove a theorem of A. Connes which asserts that under this hypothesis H L () has the same K-theory as C r * (). We introduce another space of rapidly decreasing functions on (in the l 1 sense), denoted by H L 1, (), which is always a dense *-subalgebra of the Banach algebra l 1(), and we show that H L 1, () has the same K-theory as l 1().  相似文献

The non-commutative torus C *(n,) is realized as the C*-algebra of sections of a locally trivial C*-algebra bundle over S with fibres isomorphic to C *n/S, 1) for a totally skew multiplier 1 on n/S. D. Poguntke [9] proved that A is stably isomorphic to C(S) C(*( Zn/S, 1) C(S) A Mkl( C) for a simple non-commutative torus A and an integer kl. It is well-known that a stable isomorphism of two separable C*-algebras is equivalent to the existence of equivalence bimodule between them. We construct an A-C(S) A-equivalence bimodule.  相似文献

For any given vector field X defined on some open set M 2, we characterize the prolongations X n * of X to the nth jet space M (n), n1, such that a complete system of invariants for X n * can be obtained by derivation of lower-order invariants. This leads to characterizations of C -symmetries and to new procedures for reducing the order of an ordinary differential equation.  相似文献

Let X be a separable Banach space with dual X *. A countable family of elements {g i }X * is a p-frame (1 p ) if the norm X is equivalent to the p -norm of the sequence {g i ()}. Without further assumptions, we prove that a p-frame allows every gX * to be represented as an unconditionally convergent series g=d i g i for coefficients {d i } q , where 1/p+1/q=1. A p-frame {g i } is not necessarily linear independent, so {g i } is some kind of overcomplete basis for X *. We prove that a q-Riesz basis for X * is a p-frame for X and that the associated coefficient functionals {f i } constitutes a p-Riesz basis allowing us to expand every fX (respectively gX *) as f=g i (f)f i (respectively g=g(f i )g i ). In the general case of a p-frame such expansions are only possible under extra assumptions.  相似文献

Let M be a Kähler manifold with Ricci and antiholomorphic Ricci curvature bounded from below. Let be a domain in M with some bounds on the mean and JN-mean curvatures of its boundary . The main result of this paper is a comparison theorem between the Mean Exit Time function defined on and the Mean Exit Time from a geodesic ball of the complex projective space n () which involves a characterization of the geodesic balls among the domain . In order to achieve this, we prove a comparison theorem for the mean curvatures of hypersurfaces parallel to the boundary of , using the Index Lemma for Submanifolds.Work partially supported by a DGICYT Grant No. PS87-0115-C03-01.  相似文献

Let t be the flow (parametrized with respect to arc length) of a smooth unit vector field v on a closed Riemannian manifold M n , whose orbits are geodesics. Then the (n-1)-plane field normal to v, v, is invariant under d t and, for each x M, we define a smooth real function x (t) : (1 + i (t)), where the i(t) are the eigenvalues of AA T, A being the matrix (with respect to orthonormal bases) of the non-singular linear map d2t , restricted to v at the point x -t M n.Among other things, we prove the Theorem (Theorem II, below). Assume v is also volume preserving and that x ' (t) 0 for all x M and real t; then, if x t : M M is weakly missng for some t, it is necessary that vx 0 at all x M.  相似文献

If S is an H-cone and P:SS is a localizable dilation operator on S (i.e., P is additive increasing, contractive, continuous in order from below and s(Ps+tPt+Pf)S, s,tS,f(SS)+), then it is proved that its adjoint P *:S *S * (i.e., P *=P) is also a localizable dilation operator. This is an improvement of a result obtained by G. Mokobodzki in the frame of excessive functions.  相似文献

Questions of approximative nature are considered for a space of functions L p(G, ), 1 p , defined on a locally compact abelian Hausdorff group G with Haar measure . The approximating subspaces which are analogs of the space of exponential type entire functions are introduced.  相似文献

Let {T p:q 1 p q 2} be a family of consistent C 0 semigroups on L p(), with q 1,q 2 [1,) and open. We show that certain commutator conditions on T p and on the resolvent of its generator A p ensure the p independence of the spectrum of A p for p [q 1,q 2.Applications include the case of Petrovskij correct systems with Hölder continuous coefficients, Schrödinger operators, and certain elliptic operators in divergence form with real, but not necessarily symmetric, or complex coefficients.  相似文献

We generalize the Atiyah-Segal completion theorem to C *-algebras as follows. Let A be a C *-algebra with a continuous action of the compact Lie group G. If K * G (A) is finitely generated as an R(G)-module, or under other suitable restrictions, then the I(G)-adic completion K * G (A) is isomorphic to RK *([A C(EG)]G), where RK * is representable K-theory for - C *-algebras and EG is a classifying space for G. As a corollary, we show that if and are homotopic actions of G, and if K *(C * (G,A,)) and K *(C * (G,A,)) are finitely generated, then K *(C *(G,A,))K*(C * (G,A,)). We give examples to show that this isomorphism fails without the completions. However, we prove that this isomorphism does hold without the completions if the homotopy is required to be norm continuous. This work was partially supported by an NSF Graduate Fellowship and by an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship.  相似文献

We show that the homotopy groups of the group of quasi-unitaries inC *-algebras form a homology theory on the category of allC *-algebras which becomes topologicalK-theory when stabilized. We then show how this functorial setting, in particular the half-exactness of the involved functors, helps to calculate the homotopy groups of the group of unitaries in a series ofC *-algebras. The calculations include the case of all AbelianC *-algebras and allC *-algebras of the formAB, whereA is one of the Cuntz algebras On n=2, 3, ..., an infinite dimensional simpleAF-algebra, the stable multiplier or corona algebra of a-unitalC *-algebra, a properly infinite von Neumann algebra, or one of the projectionless simpleC *-algebras constructed by Blackadar.  相似文献

We define the C *-algebra of quantum real projective space R P q 2, classify its irreducible representations, and compute its K-theory. We also show that the q-disc of Klimek and Lesniewski can be obtained as a non-Galois Z 2-quotient of the equator Podle quantum sphere. On the way, we provide the Cartesian coordinates for all Podle quantum spheres and determine an explicit form of isomorphisms between the C *-algebras of the equilateral spheres and the C *-algebra of the equator one.  相似文献

Hilbert(ian) A-modules over finite von Neumann algebras with a faithful normal trace state (from global analysis) and Hilbert W*-modules over A (from operator algebra theory) are compared and a categorical equivalence is established. The correspondence between these two structures sheds new light on basic results in L 2-invariant theory providing alternative proofs. We indicate new invariants for finitely generated projective B-modules, where B is a unital C*-algebra (usually the full group C*-algebra C*() of the fundamental group =1(M) of a manifold M).  相似文献

We develop techniques which allow one to describe in simple terms the set of operators on Hilbert space of the form M* () |M, where M is multiplication by z on a Hilbert space of analytic functions satisfying certain technical assumptions, M* () is the direct sum of a countably infinite number of copies of M*, andM is invariant for M* (). One of the main ingredients in our technique is the Arveson Extension Theorem and this paper illustrates the great power and tractability of that theorem in a concrete setting.Research partially supported by NSF grant MCS 81-02518  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the existence and boundedness of the solutions to the linear complementarity problemw=Mz+q,w0,z0,w T z=0, for eachq n . It has been previously established that, ifM is copositive plus, then the solution set is nonempty and bounded for eachq n iffM is aQ-matrix. This result is shown to be valid also forL 2-matrices,P 0-matrices, nonnegative matrices, andZ-matrices.  相似文献

LetV be a quadrilateral in aMoufang-plane , in which theFano-proposition is valid. Take the pointsP,Q,R respectively in the diagonalsp,q,r ofV and construe the pointsP *,Q *,R * inp,q, r harmonic toP,Q,R with respect to pairs of edges ofV. IfP,Q,R are collinear, so areP *,Q *,R *, if and only if is aPappos-plane. Is V classical, the pointsP 1 p,Qq,Rr and their harmonic conjugatesP 1 * ,Q *,R * (construed as above mentioned) lay in a curve of 2nd order.
