Using the properties of the Jordan curve, the following theorem on the heteroclinic tangency in orientation-preserving two-dimensional maps is proved: LetT :R 2 R 2 be a one-parameter family ofC 1 diffeomorphisms andJ=DetDT be such that 0<J1 or 1J<. LetW u n be the unstable manifold of a hyperbolicn-cycle andW s m the stable manifold of a hyperbolicm-cycle. Suppose that for< c ,W u n andW s m have no common points, and that for> c ,W u n andW s/m have a transversal heteroclinic point. Then at= c ,W u n andW s m are in the first asymptotic heteroclinic tangency except for the following three cases: (1)n=m; both cycles are without reflection. The (u, c) quarks and (d, s) quarks arerequired to have mass matrices of a certainform. To achieve these mass matrices appropriate Lagrangians are assumed. Theu quark is coupled to the standard Higgs scalar L. Thec quark has a 5 couplingwith L and R, where R is the Higgs scalar corresponding to theleft-rightmodel. The u quark has no 5 coupling. Both u,c quarks have a Yukawa couplingwith a Higgs multiplet. Exactly similar Lagrangians are chosen for thed, s qurks.Using these mass matrices, the Cabibbo angle is found to be 13° 11. The ratiom c/m s is shown to be approximately 3.1 with the help of the Weinberg mixingparameter. The mixing angles 2 and 1 determine the Cabibbo angle. The ratiotan 2/ tan 1 is shown to be a function of the Weinberg mixing parameter.  相似文献

Monte Carlo simulation and series expansion shows the radius of gyration of large clusters withs sites each to vary ass with0.56 in two and0.47 in three dimensions at the percolation threshold, and with(d=2)0.65 and(d=3)0.53 for random lattice animals (zero concentration). Clusters up tos=100 were used. The perimeter of random animals approaches 2.8s for larges on the simple cubic lattice. Monte Carlo simulation of the Eden process (growing animals) up tos=5,000 indicates a systematic variation of about ±0.05 for the effective exponent=(s) and thus suggests that the true asymptotic exponents may be compatible with the predictions of hyper-scaling.  相似文献

The tension of the interface between the equilibrium phases of a phase-separated polymer solution is obtained in the simplest mean-field approximation from the functional equation for the composition profile of the interface. For temperaturesT near the critical solution temperatureT c, i.e., for Flory parameter near c, and for high degrees of polymerizationN, the profile and tension scale with=N 1/2( c), just as do the compositions of the coexisting phases in mean-field approximation. The surface tension in the asymptotic limitN, c at fixedx, is found to be given bya 2/kT c (2c'/c)1/2 N -5/4(x), wherea is the lattice spacing of an underlying lattice (or, roughly, the length of a monomer),c andc are the vertical and total coordination numbers of the lattice, and(x) is a scaling function, known for allx, with the asymptotic behavior asx0 and asx. The latter implies that becomes independent ofN asN at fixedT nearT c; the former implies that becomes proportional toN –1/2(1–T/T c)3/2 asTT c at fixedN1, as found previously.  相似文献

TheO(5)×U(1) electroweak gauge theory with two particle generations of quarks and leptons is considered. With spontaneous symmetry breaking down to theO(3) level, the 't Hooft-PolyakovSO(3) monopole theory along with its triplet of scalar fields is reproduced and developed to the extent necessary to establish the results. It is shown that the existence of the monopole triggers the Cabibbo rotation ofd ands along with the e and µ flavors, which in turn results in the neutrino oscillations. The neutrino oscillation angle turns out to be the Cabibbo angle. Using the experimental data of Bakeret al., an upper limit is set on m 21.3 eV2 (m 2 µ 2m e 2 ). Furthermore, it is exactly the Cabibbo angle in which the isovector has to be rotated so as to spontaneously break the symmetry down to theO(3) level, together with, on theSO(3) sector, to theU(1) level. It turns out that the Weinberg angle is twice the Cabibbo angle, a result already noted elsewhere.  相似文献

Using a SQUID magnetometer the magnetization of the Ising ferromagnet dysprosium ethyl sulphate has been measured in the temperature range 0.015–3K and in external fields 0.004–30 Oe. The results atT0.4 K (precritical regime) confirm the pure dipolar nature of the magnetic interactions. Particular interest has been paid to the immediate neighbourhood of the critical pointT c =118.17 mK andH=0 where the zero-field susceptibility(T) aboveT c , the spontaneous magnetizationM s (T), and the magnetization atT c ,M c (H), can be described by mean field laws modified by logarithmic singularities. The critical amplitudes, B, andD of, M s andM c , respectively, satisfy the relation (2/3B 2)1/3=D. We study perturbative QCD at the five-loop level. In particular we considerR = tot(e + e hadrons)/(e + e + ) andR = ( v+hadrons)/( ev). We use our method to estimate the five-loop coefficients. As a result, we obtain s (M z ) = 0.1186(11) and s (34 GeV) = 0.1396(16), which are accurate at the 1% level. We also findR = 3.8350(18), which is consistent withR and is accurate to 0.05%.  相似文献

Following Bondi static, spherically symmetric equilibrium configurations with a core and an envelope have been considered. It has been shown that for any configurations with nonnegative pressure and density and with a surface red-shiftz s 4.77 arbitrarily large central red-shiftsz c are possible in the limiting case of arbitrarily large radius. The effects of imposition of further constraints in the form of a real speed of sound not exceeding the speed of light are also examined. It is seen that for a given limiting sound-to-light-speed ratio . (i) There exists a limiting surface red-shiftz s() 1.71. (ii) A configuration withz s >z s() is not possible, (iii) A configuration withz s=z s() has a unique and finitez c=z c(). (iv) Forz s<z s() arbitrarily large central red-shifts can be obtained for configurations with arbitrarily large radii.  相似文献

Exact series expansion data of Sykes et al. are used to calculate the average numberc n and perimeters n of clusters of sizen20 in the site percolation problem for the triangular, square, and honeycomb lattice. At the percolation thresholdp n we find a sharply peaked distribution of perimeterss n with mean s n =((1–p n )/p c )n+O(n ) and width s n 2S n 2n 1.6 where1/=0.39. This perimeter s n should not be interpreted as a cluster surface in the usual sense. Two tests confirm the universality hypothesis with reasonable accuracy. The asymptotic decay of the cluster numbersc n withn is consistent with the postulated asymmetry aboutp c : logc n n forn with1 forp<p c and1/2 forp>p c .  相似文献

Amorphous (Mo1–x Ru x )0.8P0.2 alloys (0.3x0.7) have been investigated with measurements of the specific heatC and thermal conductivity . Also the superconducting properties (critical temperatureT c and upper critical field) have been determined. Well belowT c , all alloys show the familiar behavior known for glasses, i.e.CT n and T m withn1 andm2 which is attributed to tunneling states (TLS). The largeT c allows an unambiguous determination of the coefficients ofC and . Compairing our data with literature data, we find no correlation between the TLS density of states and the glass temperature or crystallization temperature, as opposed to insulating glasses where such a correlation appears to exist. The unusual annealing behavior found previously in amorphous Zr–Ni and Zr–Cu, which was attributed to a change in the TLS relaxation-time spectrum, is confirmed in the present work.  相似文献

Muon spin relaxation (SR) studies have been performed in the normal spinel LiTi2O4 and the A-15 superconductor V3Si to measure the magnetic penetration depth . The relaxation rate(T) 1/2 in field-cooled measurements shows a sharp increase belowT c followed by saturation at low temperatures in both systems. This feature implies an isotropic energy gap without anomalous zeros, and most likelys-wave pairing. The low temperature penetration depth (T 0) is determined to be 2100Å for LiTi2O4 and 1300Å for V3Si respectively. Assuming a clean limit relation –2 n s /m *, we derive the Fermi temperatureT F n s/ 2/3 m * from the relaxation rate and the Sommerfeld constant asT F 3/4–1/4. Unlike conventional superconductors, both LiTi2O4 and V3Si have a large ratio ofT c /T F 0.01, only slightly smaller than those ratios in more exotic superconductors.We thank C. Ballard and K. The spectrum of the mass operator on the soliton sectors of the anisotropic (|ø|4)2—and the (ø4)2—quantum field models in the two phase region is analyzed. It is proven that, for small enough >0, the mass gapm s() on the soliton sector is positive, andm s()=0(–1). This involves estimatingm s() from below by a quantity () analogous to the surface tension in the statistical mechanics of two dimensional, classical spin systems and then estimating () by methods of Euclidean field theory. Mori's scaling method is used to derive the kinetic equation for a dilute, nonuniform electron plasma in the kinetic region where the space-time cutoff (b, t c) satisfies Dbl f , D t c f , with D the Debye length, D –1= p the plasma frequency, andl f and f the mean free path and time, respectively. The kinetic equation takes account of the nonuniformity of the order ofl f and D for the single-and the two-particle distribution function, respectively. Thus the Vlasov term associated with the two-particle distribution function is retained. This kinetic equation is deduced from the kinetic equation in the coherent region obtained by Morita, Mori, and Tokuyama, where the space-time cutoff of the coherent region satisfies Dbr 0, Dt c 0, withr 0 the Landau length and 0 the corresponding time scale.  相似文献

Nonlinear effects stabilizing the convective instabilities excited in an anisothermic plasma (T etT i) at the plasma boundaryaVs/ Bi) are discussed. Waves having in the linear theory (Part I) the highest growth rates ( Bi) saturate at first. Being excited by a small part of slow plasma electrons ( zTe) only, they saturate at a relatively low level. Further, surface waves with lower frequencies and higher phase velocities ( ph/kz) become dominant and a broadening of the plasma boundary occurs. For their saturation nonlinear interaction is more important than the quasilinear effects. During the time interval of several Bi –1 the longest surface waves withk yBi/Vs, BikyVs and ph Te saturate at the absolutely highest level. The plasma boundary broadens in the meanwhile up toaV s/Bi. The wave energy is comparable to the whole energy connected with the longitudinal motion of the initially thermal electrons inside this boundary layer. The wave amplitude is large enough to trap the initially cold ions belonging to this layer and heat them up to energies comparable to those of the electron component. The heating process occurs again within several Bi –1 and the Larmor radius of the ions is then comparable toV s/Bi. A nonlinear equation of motion of an overdamped oscillator exhibiting a glass-like transition at a critical coupling constant c is presented and solved exactly. Below c , in the fluid phase, the oscillator coordinatex(t) decays to zero, while above c , in the amorphous phase, it decays to a nonzero infinite time limit. Near c the motion is slowed down by a nonlinear feedback mechanism andx(t) decays exponentially to its long time limit with a relaxation time diverging as (1 – / c )–3/2 and (/ c –1)–1 for < c and > c respectively. At c x(t) exhibits a power law decay proportional tot with exponent -1/2.  相似文献

A systematic study of the dependence of the critical temperature on the superconducting carrier density, as measured by +SR, was carried out for a variety of cuprate oxides. We have shown that substitution of Pb for Bi and La for Sr result in well pinned vortex lattices in Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox, and studied (BiPb)-2212 from the underdoped to the slightly overdoped regime. We also found that Tl-1212 samples, which have optimal maximumT c=108 K, trace a separate line with parameters comparable to overdoped Tl-2223 at the maximum. These data, together with data on Y-124/247, Tl-2201 and other cuprates result in an larger set of universal correlations between Tc and(0) n s /m * for the high temperature superconductors.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the application of opto-electronic signal processing to a certain class of interference-resistant communications techniques. The processing techniques are applicable to spread spectrum digital transmissions which are processed by a matched filter at the receiver. The analysis of optical delay line matched filters of the diffraction type is discussed. The analysis considers the basic ultrasonic light modulator, that is, the modulation of a light source by a sonic wave. The sonic wave may represent a received spread spectrum signal or received noise or a combination of both. Two ultrasonic modulators in cascade perform the desired correlation or matched filter function. The analysis considers the effects of intermodulation of signal and noise and also the effects of the beamspreading and attenuation of the sonic signal in the delay lines. A general method is used for describing reaction-diffusion systems, namely van Kampen's method of compounding moments, to study the spatial fluctuations in reaction-limited aggregation processes. The general formalism used here and in subsequent publications is developed. Then a particular model is considered that is of special interest, since it describes the occurrence of a phase transition (gelation). The corresponding rate constants for the reaction between two clusters of sizei and sizej areK ij=ij (i, j=1, 2,). For thediffusion constants D j of clusters of sizej the following class of models is considered:D j=D if 1Js andD j=0 ifj>s. The casess= ands< are studied separately. For the models= the equal-time and the two-time correlation functions are calculated; this modelbreaks down at the gel point. The breakdown is characterized by a divergence of the density fluctuations, and is caused by the large mobility of large clusters. For all models withs< the density fluctuations remain finite att c, and the equal-time correlation functions in the pre- and in the post-gel stage are calculated. Many explicit and asymptotic results are given. From the exact solution the upper critical dimension in this gelling model isd c=2.  相似文献

The contact process onZ has one phase transition; let c be the critical value at which the transition occurs. Let N be the extinction time of the contact process on {0,...,N}. Durrett and Liu (1988), Durrett and Schonmann (1988), and Durrett, Schonmann, and Tanaka (1989) have respectively proved that the subcritical, supercritical, and critical phases can be characterized using a large finite system (instead ofZ) in the following way. There are constants 1() and 2() such that if < c , lim N N /logN = 1/1(); if > c , lim N log N /N = 2(); if = c , lim N N /N= and lim N N /N 4=0 in probability. In this paper we consider the asymmetric contact process onZ when it has two distinct critical values c1< c2. The arguments of Durrett and Liu and of Durrett and Schonmann hold for < c1 and > c2. We show that for [ c1< c2), lim N N /N=-1/, (where i is an edge speed) and for = c2, lim N log N /logN=2 in probability.  相似文献

Existence and uniqueness results are established for solutions to the Becker-Döring cluster equations. The density is shown to be a conserved quantity. Under hypotheses applying to a model of a quenched binary alloy the asymptotic behaviour of solutions with rapidly decaying initial data is determined. Denoting the set of equilibrium solutions byc (), 0 s , the principal result is that if the initial density 0 s then the solution converges strongly toc (o), while if 0 > s the solution converges weak* toc (s). In the latter case the excess density 0 s corresponds to the formation of larger and larger clusters, i.e. condensation. The main tools for studying the asymptotic behaviour are the use of a Lyapunov function with desirable continuity properties, obtained from a known Lyapunov function by the addition of a special multiple of the density, and a maximum principle for solutions.  相似文献
