In this work we present a global optimization algorithm for solving a class of large-scale nonconvex optimization models that have a decomposable structure. Such models, which are very expensive to solve to global optimality, are frequently encountered in two-stage stochastic programming problems, engineering design, and also in planning and scheduling. A generic formulation and reformulation of the decomposable models is given. We propose a specialized deterministic branch-and-cut algorithm to solve these models to global optimality, wherein bounds on the global optimum are obtained by solving convex relaxations of these models with certain cuts added to them in order to tighten the relaxations. These cuts are based on the solutions of the sub-problems obtained by applying Lagrangean decomposition to the original nonconvex model. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method compared to available commercial global optimization solvers that are based on branch and bound methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for a zero duality gap between a primal optimization problem and its generalized augmented Lagrangian dual problems. The condition is mainly expressed in the form of the lower semicontinuity of a perturbation function at the origin. For a constrained optimization problem, a general equivalence is established for zero duality gap properties defined by a general nonlinear Lagrangian dual problem and a generalized augmented Lagrangian dual problem, respectively. For a constrained optimization problem with both equality and inequality constraints, we prove that first-order and second-order necessary optimality conditions of the augmented Lagrangian problems with a convex quadratic augmenting function converge to that of the original constrained program. For a mathematical program with only equality constraints, we show that the second-order necessary conditions of general augmented Lagrangian problems with a convex augmenting function converge to that of the original constrained program. This research is supported by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong (PolyU B-Q359.)  相似文献

This paper studies the global optimization of polynomial programming problems using Reformulation-Linearization Technique (RLT)-based linear programming (LP) relaxations. We introduce a new class of bound-grid-factor constraints that can be judiciously used to augment the basic RLT relaxations in order to improve the quality of lower bounds and enhance the performance of global branch-and-bound algorithms. Certain theoretical properties are established that shed light on the effect of these valid inequalities in driving the discrepancies between RLT variables and their associated nonlinear products to zero. To preserve computational expediency while promoting efficiency, we propose certain concurrent and sequential cut generation routines and various grid-factor selection rules. The results indicate a significant tightening of lower bounds, which yields an overall reduction in computational effort for solving a test-bed of polynomial programming problems to global optimality in comparison with the basic RLT procedure as well as the commercial software BARON.  相似文献

Cross decomposition for mixed integer programming   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Many methods for solving mixed integer programming problems are based either on primal or on dual decomposition, which yield, respectively, a Benders decomposition algorithm and an implicit enumeration algorithm with bounds computed via Lagrangean relaxation. These methods exploit either the primal or the dual structure of the problem. We propose a new approach, cross decomposition, which allows exploiting simultaneously both structures. The development of the cross decomposition method captures profound relationships between primal and dual decomposition. It is shown that the more constraints can be included in the Langrangean relaxation (provided the duality gap remains zero), the fewer the Benders cuts one may expect to need. If the linear programming relaxation has no duality gap, only one Benders cut is needed to verify optimality.  相似文献

We consider the problem of finding an arrangement of rectangles with given areas that minimizes the total length of all inner and outer border lines. We present a polynomial time approximation algorithm and derive an upper bound estimation on its approximation ratio. Furthermore, we give a formulation of the problem as mixed-integer nonlinear program and show that it can be approximatively reformulated as linear mixed-integer program. On a test set of problem instances, we compare our approximation algorithm with another one from the literature. Using a standard numerical mixed-integer linear solver, we show that adding the solutions from the approximation algorithm as advanced starter helps to reduce the overall solution time for proven global optimality, or gives better primal and dual bounds if a certain time-limit is reached before.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving a general nonconvex constrained optimization problem within a unified framework to cover Lagrange multiplier method and KKT theory. It is proved that if both target function and constraints possess certain patterns necessary for modeling real systems, a perfect dual problem (without duality gap) can be obtained in a unified form with global optimality conditions provided. While the popular augmented Lagrangian method may produce more difficult nonconvex problems due to the nonlinearity of constraints. Some fundamental concepts such as the objectivity and Lagrangian in nonlinear programming are addressed.  相似文献

First-Order Optimality Conditions in Generalized Semi-Infinite Programming   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
In this paper, we consider a generalized semi-infinite optimization problem where the index set of the corresponding inequality constraints depends on the decision variables and the involved functions are assumed to be continuously differentiable. We derive first-order necessary optimality conditions for such problems by using bounds for the upper and lower directional derivatives of the corresponding optimal value function. In the case where the optimal value function is directly differentiable, we present first-order conditions based on the linearization of the given problem. Finally, we investigate necessary and sufficient first-order conditions by using the calculus of quasidifferentiable functions.  相似文献

This paper presents a set of complete solutions and optimality conditions for a nonconvex quadratic-exponential optimization problem. By using the canonical duality theory developed by the first author, the nonconvex primal problem in n-dimensional space can be converted into an one-dimensional canonical dual problem with zero duality gap, which can be solved easily to obtain all dual solutions. Each dual solution leads to a primal solution. Both global and local extremality conditions of these primal solutions can be identified by the triality theory associated with the canonical duality theory. Several examples are illustrated.  相似文献

In this paper, under the existence of a certificate of nonnegativity of the objective function over the given constraint set, we present saddle-point global optimality conditions and a generalized Lagrangian duality theorem for (not necessarily convex) polynomial optimization problems, where the Lagrange multipliers are polynomials. We show that the nonnegativity certificate together with the archimedean condition guarantees that the values of the Lasserre hierarchy of semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxations of the primal polynomial problem converge asymptotically to the common primal–dual value. We then show that the known regularity conditions that guarantee finite convergence of the Lasserre hierarchy also ensure that the nonnegativity certificate holds and the values of the SDP relaxations converge finitely to the common primal–dual value. Finally, we provide classes of nonconvex polynomial optimization problems for which the Slater condition guarantees the required nonnegativity certificate and the common primal–dual value with constant multipliers and the dual problems can be reformulated as semidefinite programs. These classes include some separable polynomial programs and quadratic optimization problems with quadratic constraints that admit certain hidden convexity. We also give several numerical examples that illustrate our results.  相似文献

This paper studies the two-dimensional layout optimization problem. An optimization model withperformance constraints is presented. The layout problem is partitioned into finite subproblems in terms ofgraph theory,in such a way of that each subproblem overcomes its on-off nature optimal variable.A minimaxproblem is constructed that is locally equivalent to each subproblem.By using this minimax problem,we presentthe optimality function for every subproblem and prove that the first order necessary optimality condition issatisfied at a point if and only if this point is a zero of optimality function.  相似文献

This paper presents a canonical duality theory for solving quadratic minimization problems subjected to either box or integer constraints. Results show that under Gao and Strang’s general global optimality condition, these well-known nonconvex and discrete problems can be converted into smooth concave maximization dual problems over closed convex feasible spaces without duality gap, and can be solved by well-developed optimization methods. Both existence and uniqueness of these canonical dual solutions are presented. Based on a second-order canonical dual perturbation, the discrete integer programming problem is equivalent to a continuous unconstrained Lipschitzian optimization problem, which can be solved by certain deterministic technique. Particularly, an analytical solution is obtained under certain condition. A fourth-order canonical dual perturbation algorithm is presented and applications are illustrated. Finally, implication of the canonical duality theory for the popular semi-definite programming method is revealed.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish global optimality conditions for quadratic optimization problems with quadratic equality and bivalent constraints. We first present a necessary and sufficient condition for a global minimizer of quadratic optimization problems with quadratic equality and bivalent constraints. Then we examine situations where this optimality condition is equivalent to checking the positive semidefiniteness of a related matrix, and so, can be verified in polynomial time by using elementary eigenvalues decomposition techniques. As a consequence, we also present simple sufficient global optimality conditions, which can be verified by solving a linear matrix inequality problem, extending several known sufficient optimality conditions in the existing literature.  相似文献

A new approach is proposed for finding all real solutions of systems of nonlinear equations with bound constraints. The zero finding problem is converted to a global optimization problem whose global minima with zero objective value, if any, correspond to all solutions of the original problem. A branch-and-bound algorithm is used with McCormick’s nonsmooth convex relaxations to generate lower bounds. An inclusion relation between the solution set of the relaxed problem and that of the original nonconvex problem is established which motivates a method to generate automatically, starting points for a local Newton-type method. A damped-Newton method with natural level functions employing the restrictive monotonicity test is employed to find solutions robustly and rapidly. Due to the special structure of the objective function, the solution of the convex lower bounding problem yields a nonsmooth root exclusion test which is found to perform better than earlier interval-analysis based exclusion tests. Both the componentwise Krawczyk operator and interval-Newton operator with Gauss-Seidel based root inclusion and exclusion tests are also embedded in the proposed algorithm to refine the variable bounds for efficient fathoming of the search space. The performance of the algorithm on a variety of test problems from the literature is presented, and for most of them, the first solution is found at the first iteration of the algorithm due to the good starting point generation.  相似文献

A new Lagrangean approach to the pooling problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We present a new Lagrangean approach for the pooling problem. The relaxation targets all nonlinear constraints, and results in a Lagrangean subproblem with a nonlinear objective function and linear constraints, that is reformulated as a linear mixed integer program. Besides being used to generate lower bounds, the subproblem solutions are exploited within Lagrangean heuristics to find feasible solutions. Valid cuts, derived from bilinear terms, are added to the subproblem to strengthen the Lagrangean bound and improve the quality of feasible solutions. The procedure is tested on a benchmark set of fifteen problems from the literature. The proposed bounds are found to outperform or equal earlier bounds from the literature on 14 out of 15 tested problems. Similarly, the Lagrangean heuristics outperform the VNS and MALT heuristics on 4 instances. Furthermore, the Lagrangean lower bound is equal to the global optimum for nine problems, and on average is 2.1% from the optimum. The Lagrangean heuristics, on the other hand, find the global solution for ten problems and on average are 0.043% from the optimum.  相似文献

This paper is a study of the car sequencing problem, when feature spacing constraints are soft and colors of vehicles are taken into account. Both pseudo-polynomial algorithms and lower bounds are presented for parts of the problem or family of instances. With this set of lower bounds, we establish the optimality (up to the first non-trivial criteria) of 54% of best known solutions for the benchmark used for the Roadef Challenge 2005. We also prove that the optimal penalty for a single ratio constraint N/P can be computed in O(P) and that determining the feasibility of a car sequencing instance limited to a pair of simple ratio constraints can be achieved by dynamic programming. Finally, we propose a solving algorithm exploiting these results within a local search approach. To achieve this goal, a new meta-heuristic (star relinking) is introduced, designed for the optimization of an aggregation of criteria, when the optimization of each single criterion is a polynomial problem.  相似文献

We consider a bilevel programming problem in Banach spaces whose lower level solution is unique for any choice of the upper level variable. A condition is presented which ensures that the lower level solution mapping is directionally differentiable, and a formula is constructed which can be used to compute this directional derivative. Afterwards, we apply these results in order to obtain first-order necessary optimality conditions for the bilevel programming problem. It is shown that these optimality conditions imply that a certain mathematical program with complementarity constraints in Banach spaces has the optimal solution zero. We state the weak and strong stationarity conditions of this problem as well as corresponding constraint qualifications in order to derive applicable necessary optimality conditions for the original bilevel programming problem. Finally, we use the theory to state new necessary optimality conditions for certain classes of semidefinite bilevel programming problems and present an example in terms of bilevel optimal control.  相似文献

Motivated by weakly convex optimization and quadratic optimization problems, we first show that there is no duality gap between a difference of convex (DC) program over DC constraints and its associated dual problem. We then provide certificates of global optimality for a class of nonconvex optimization problems. As an application, we derive characterizations of robust solutions for uncertain general nonconvex quadratic optimization problems over nonconvex quadratic constraints.  相似文献

The Lagrangian function in the conventional theory for solving constrained optimization problems is a linear combination of the cost and constraint functions. Typically, the optimality conditions based on linear Lagrangian theory are either necessary or sufficient, but not both unless the underlying cost and constraint functions are also convex. We propose a somewhat different approach for solving a nonconvex inequality constrained optimization problem based on a nonlinear Lagrangian function. This leads to optimality conditions which are both sufficient and necessary, without any convexity assumption. Subsequently, under appropriate assumptions, the optimality conditions derived from the new nonlinear Lagrangian approach are used to obtain an equivalent root-finding problem. By appropriately defining a dual optimization problem and an alternative dual problem, we show that zero duality gap will hold always regardless of convexity, contrary to the case of linear Lagrangian duality.  相似文献

In this paper, we first examine how global optimality of non-convex constrained optimization problems is related to Lagrange multiplier conditions. We then establish Lagrange multiplier conditions for global optimality of general quadratic minimization problems with quadratic constraints. We also obtain necessary global optimality conditions, which are different from the Lagrange multiplier conditions for special classes of quadratic optimization problems. These classes include weighted least squares with ellipsoidal constraints, and quadratic minimization with binary constraints. We discuss examples which demonstrate that our optimality conditions can effectively be used for identifying global minimizers of certain multi-extremal non-convex quadratic optimization problems. When the follower's optimality conditions are both necessary and sufficient, the nonlinear bilevel program can be solved as a global optimization problem. The complementary slackness condition is usually the complicating constraint in such problems. We show how this constraint can be replaced by an equivalent system of convex and separable quadratic constraints. In this paper, we propose different methods for finding the global minimum of a concave function subject to quadratic separable constraints. The first method is of the branch and bound type, and is based on rectangular partitions to obtain upper and lower bounds. Convergence of the proposed algorithm is also proved. For computational purposes, different procedures that accelerate the convergence of the proposed algorithm are analysed. The second method is based on piecewise linear approximations of the constraint functions. When the constraints are convex, the problem is reduced to global concave minimization subject to linear constraints. In the case of non-convex constraints, we use zero-one integer variables to linearize the constraints. The number of integer variables depends only on the concave parts of the constraint functions.Parts of the present paper were prepared while the second author was visiting Georgia Tech and the University of Florida.  相似文献
