An analysis has been developed to study the unsteady free convection flow of an incompressible visco-elastic fluid on a continuously moving vertical porous plate in the presence of a first-order chemical reaction. The governing equations are solved numerically using an implicit finite difference technique. The obtained numerical solutions are compared with the analytical solutions. The velocity profiles are presented. A parametric analysis is performed to illustrate the influences of the visco-elastic parameter, the dimensionless chemical reaction parameter, and the plate moving velocity on the steady state velocity profiles, the time dependent friction coefficient, the Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number.  相似文献

An analysis is made of Hall effects on the steady shear flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid past an infinite porous plate in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field. It is shown that for suction at the plate, steady shear flow solution exists only when S2<Q, where S and Q are the suction and magnetic parameters, respectively. The primary flow velocity decreases with increase in Hall parameter m. But the cross-flow velocity first increases and then decreases with increase in m. Similar results are obtained for variation of the induced magnetic field with m. It is further found that for blowing at the plate, steady shear flow solution exists only when , where S1 is the blowing parameter.  相似文献

The problem of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow on a moving surface with the power-law velocity and special injection/blowing is investigated. A scaling group transformation is used to reduce the governing equations to a system of ordinary differen- tial equations. The skin friction coefficients of the MHD boundary layer flow are derived, and the approximate solutions of the flow characteristics are obtained with the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The approximate solutions are easily computed by use of a high order iterative procedure, and the effects of the power-law index, the magnetic parameter, and the special suction/blowing parameter on the dynamics are analyzed. The obtained results are compared with the numerical results published in the literature, verifying the reliability of the approximate solutions.  相似文献

The steady boundary-layer flow of a non-Newtonian fluid, represented by a power-law model, over a moving wedge in a moving fluid is studied in this paper. The transformed boundary-layer equation is solved numerically for some values of the involved parameters. The effects of these parameters on the skin friction coefficient are analyzed and discussed. It is found that multiple solutions exist when the wedge and the fluid move in the opposite directions, near the region of separation. It is also found that the drag force is reduced for dilatant fluids compared to pseudo-plastic fluids.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical study of the flow and heat transfer of an incompressible homogeneous second grade type fluid above a flat plate moving with constant velocity U. Such a viscoelastic fluid is at rest and the motion is created by the sheet. The effects of the non-Newtonian nature of the fluid are governed by the local Deborah number K (the ratio between the relaxation time of the fluid and the characteristic time of the flow). When , a new analytical solution for this flow is presented and the effects of fluid's elasticity on flow characteristics, dimensionless stream function and its derivatives are analysed in a wide domain of K. A novel result of the analysis is that a change in the flow solution's behaviour occurs when the dimensionless stream function at the edge of the boundary layer, f, equals 1.0. It is found that velocity at a point decreases with increase in the elasticity of the fluid and, as expected, the amount of fluid entrained diminishes when the effects of fluid's elasticity are augmented. In our heat transfer analyses we assume that the surface temperature has a power-law variation. Two cases are studied, namely, (i) the sheet with prescribed surface temperature (PST case) and (ii) the sheet with prescribed heat flux (PHF case). Local similarity heat-transfer solutions are given for PST case when s=2 (the wall temperature parameter) whereas when a similarity solution takes place in the case of prescribed wall heat flux. The numerical results obtained are fairly in good agreement with the aforementioned analytical ones.  相似文献

On the squeeze flow of a power-law fluid between rigid spheres   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The lubrication solution for the squeeze flow of a power-law fluid between two rigid spherical particles has been investigated. It is shown that the radial pressure distribution converges to zero within the gap between the particles for any value of the flow index, n, provided that the gap separation distance is sufficiently small. However, in the case of the viscous force, it is useful to consider that there are two contributions. The first is developed in the inner region of the gap and corresponds to the lubrication limit. The second is due to an integration of the pressure in the adjacent outer region of the gap. The relative contribution to the force in this outer region increases as n decreases and the separation distance increases. In particular, for flow indices in the range n>1/3, the contribution in the outer region is negligible if the separation distance is sufficiently small. For n1/3, this is the dominant term and an accurate prediction of the viscous force is possible only for discrete liquid bridges.Based on “zero” pressure and lubrication criteria for the upper limits of integration, two closed-form solutions have been derived for the viscous force. Both are accurate for n>0.5 and are in close agreement with a previously published asymptotic solution in the range n>0.6. For smaller values of n, the asymptotic solution over-estimates the viscous force and predicts a singularity when n approaches 1/3. The two closed-form solutions show continuous and monotonic behaviour for all values of n. Moreover, the solution satisfying the lubrication limit is valid in the range n<1/3 provided that it is restricted to liquid bridges.  相似文献

The present study is devoted to investigate the influences of viscous dissipation on buoyancy induced flow over a horizontal or a vertical flat plate embedded in a non-Newtonian fluid saturated porous medium. The Ostwald-de Waele power-law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. Similarity solutions for the transformed governing equations are obtained with prescribed variable surface temperature (PT) or with prescribed variable surface heat flux (PHF) for the horizontal plate case. While, the similarity solutions are obtained with prescribed variable surface heat flux for the vertical plate case. Different similar transformations, for each case, are used. Numerical results for the details of the velocity and temperature profiles are shown on graphs. Nusselt number associated with temperature distributions and excess surface temperature associated with heat flux distributions which are entered in tables have been presented for different values of the power-law index n and the exponent as well as Eckert number.  相似文献

In this paper the study of visco-elastic (Walters' liquid B model) flow past a stretching plate with suction is considered. Exact solutions of the boundary layer equations of motion and energy are obtained. The expressions for the coefficient of skin friction and of boundary layer thickness are obtained.  相似文献

Waves that occur at the surface of a falling film of thin power-law fluid on a vertical plane are investigated. Using the method of integral relations an evolution equation is derived for two types of waves equation which are possible under long wave approximation. This equation reveals the presence of both kinematic and dynamic wave processes which may either act together or singularly dominate the wave field depending on the order of different parameters. It is shown that, at a small flow rate, kinematic waves dominate the flow field and the energy is acquired from the mean flow during the interaction of the waves, while, for high flow rate, inertial waves dominate and the energy comes from the kinematic waves. It is also found that this exchange of energy between kinematic and inertial waves strongly depends on the power-law index n. Linear stability analysis predicts the contribution of different terms in the wave mechanism. Further, it is found that the surface tension plays a double role: for a kinematic wave process, it exerts dissipative effects so that a finite amplitude case may be established, but for a dynamic wave process it yields dispersion. Further, it is shown that the non-Newtonian character n plays a vital role in controlling the role of the term that contains surface tension in the above processes.  相似文献

An approximate solution to the problem of flow of a viscous incompressible dissipative fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate embedded in a porous medium is presented here. The plate temperature is assumed to be oscillating about a constant mean temperature. Mean velocity and mean temperature, the transient velocity and temperature profiles are shown graphically. The mean skin-friction and the mean rate of heat transfer are also shown graphically. The expressions for the amplitude and the phase of the skin-friction and the rate of heat transfer are derived and their numerical values are listed in Tables. The effects of different parameters governing the unsteady flow are discussed. Received on 23 November 1998  相似文献

The problem of the impulsive motion of a flat plate in a Rivlin-Ericksen fluid is reconsidered. An exact solution for the velocity distribution is found in terms of a definite integral. It is shown that a solution obtained earlier does not satisfy the boundary condition at the plate in the sense of generalized functions.  相似文献

The paper considers the flow of a power-law fluid past a vertical stretching sheet. Effects of variable thermal conductivity and non-uniform heat source/sink on the heat transfer are addressed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. Similarity transformation is used to convert the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled, non-linear ordinary differential equations. Two different types of boundary heating are considered, namely Prescribed power-law Surface Temperature (PST) and Prescribed power-law Heat Flux (PHF). Shooting method is used to obtain the numerical solution for the resulting boundary value problems. The effects of Chandrasekhar number, Grashof number, Prandtl number, non-uniform heat source/sink parameters, wall temperature parameter and variable thermal conductivity parameter on the dynamics are shown graphically in several plots. The skin friction and heat transfer coefficients are tabulated for a range of values of the parameters. Present study reveals that in a gravity affected flow buoyancy effect has a significant say in the control of flow and heat transfer.  相似文献

Heat and mass transfer effects on the unsteady flow of a micropolar fluid through a porous medium bounded by a semi-infinite vertical plate in a slip-flow regime are studied taking into account a homogeneous chemical reaction of the first order. A uniform magnetic field acts perpendicular to the porous surface absorb micropolar fluid with a suction velocity varying with time. The free stream velocity follows an exponentially increasing or decreasing small perturbation law. Using the approximate method, the expressions for the velocity microrotation, temperature, and concentration are obtained. Futher, the results of the skin friction coefficient, the couple stress coefficient, and the rate of heat and mass transfer at the wall are presented with various values of fluid properties and flow conditions.  相似文献

This work deals with the influence of thermal radiation on the problem of the mixed convection thin film flow and heat transfer of a micropolar fluid past a moving infinite vertical porous flat plate with a slip velocity. The fluid viscosity and the thermal conductivity are assumed to be the functions of temperature. The equations governing the flow are solved numerically by the Chebyshev spectral method for some representative value of various parameters. In comparison with the previously published work, the excellent agreement is shown. The effects of various parameters on the velocity, the microrotation velocity, and the temperature profiles,as well as the skin-friction coefficient and the Nusselt number, are plotted and discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, the steady flow and heat transfer of a magnetohydrodynamic fluid is studied. The fluid is assumed to be electrically conducting in the presence of a uniform magnetic field and occupies the porous space in annular pipe. The governing nonlinear equations are modeled by introducing the modified Darcy's law obeying the Sisko model. The system is solved using the homotopy analysis method (HAM), which yields analytical solutions in the form of a rapidly convergent infinite series. Also, HAM is used to obtain analytical solutions of the problem for noninteger values of the power index. The resulting problem for velocity field is then numerically solved using an iterative method to show the accuracy of the analytic solutions. The obtained solutions for the velocity and temperature fields are graphically sketched and the salient features of these solutions are discussed for various values of the power index parameter. We also present a comparison between Sisko and Newtonian fluids. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We treat numerically in this paper, the transient analysis of a conjugated heat transfer process in the thermal entrance region of a circular tube with a fully developed laminar power-law fluid flow. We apply the quasi-steady approximation for the power-law fluid, identifying the suitable time scales of the process. Thus, the energy equation in the fluids is solved analytically using the well-known integral boundary layer technique. This solution is coupled to the transient energy equation for the solid where the transverse and longitudinal heat conduction effects are taken into account. The numerical results for the temporal evolution of the average temperature of the tube wall, av, is plotted for different nondimensional parameters such as conduction parameter, , the aspect ratios of the tube, and 0 and the index of power-law fluid, n.  相似文献

Well-resolved two-dimensional numerical simulations of the unsteady separated flow past a normal flat plate at low Reynolds numbers have been performed using a fractional step procedure with high-order spatial discretization. A fifth-order upwind-biased scheme is used for the convective terms and the diffusive terms are represented by a fourth-order central difference scheme. The pressure Poisson equation is solved using a direct method based on eigenvalue decomposition of the coefficient matrix. A systematic study of the flow has been conducted with high temporal and spatial resolutions for a series of Reynolds numbers. The interactions of the vortices shed form the shear layers in the near-and far-wake regions are studied. For Reynolds numbers less than 250 the vortices are observed to convect parallel to the freestream. However, at higher Reynolds numbers (500 and 1000), complex interactions including vortex pairing, tearing and deformations are seen to occur in the far-wake region. Values of the drag coefficient and the wake closure length are presented and compared with previous experimental and numerical studies.  相似文献

Similarity analysis of diffusion of chemically reactive solute distribution in MHD boundary layer flow of an electrically conducting incompressible fluid over a porous flat plate is presented. The reaction rate of the solute is considered inversely proportional along the plate. Adopting the similarity transformation technique the governing equations are converted into the self-similar ordinary differential equations which are solved by shooting procedure using Runge-Kutta method. For increase of the Schmidt number the solute boundary layer thickness is reduced. Most importantly, the effects of reaction rate and order of reaction on concentration field are of conflicting natures, due to increasing reaction rate parameter the concentration decreases, but for the increase in order of reaction it increases. In presence of chemical reaction, the concentration profiles attain negative value when Schmidt number is large.  相似文献

The problem of magneto-hydrodynamic mixed convective flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting, power-law fluid past a stretching surface in the presence of heat generation/absorption and thermal radiation has been analyzed. After transforming the governing equations with suitable dimensionless variables, numerical solutions are generated by an implicit finite-difference technique for the non-similar, coupled flow. The solution is found to be dependent on the governing parameters including the power-law fluid index, the magnetic field parameter, the modified Richardson number, the radiation parameter, the heat generation parameter, and the generalized Prandtl number. To reveal the tendency of the solutions, typical results for the velocity and temperature profiles, the skin-friction coefficient, and the local Nusselt number are presented for different values of these controlling parameters.  相似文献

An analysis is performed to study the magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting, viscous incompressible fluid past a semi-infinite vertical plate with variable surface temperature under the action of transversely applied magnetic field. The heat due to viscous dissipation and the induced magnetic field are assumed to be negligible. The dimensionless governing equations are unsteady, two-dimensional, coupled and non-linear governing equations. It is found that the magnetic field parameter has a retarding effect on the velocities of air and water.  相似文献
