We study message spreading on a scale-free network, by introducing a novel forget-remember mechanism. Message, a general term which can refer to email, news, rumor or disease, etc, can be forgotten and remembered by its holder. The way the message is forgotten and remembered is governed by the forget and remember function, F and R, respectively. Both F and R are functions of history time t concerning individual's previous states, namely being active (with message) or inactive (without message). Our systematicsimulations show at the low transmission rate whether or not the spreading can be efficient is primarily determined by the corresponding parameters for F and R.  相似文献

We investigate the spreading processes of epidemic diseases among many residential sites for different disease characteristics and different population distributions by constructing and solving a set of integrodifferential equations for the evolutions of position-dependent infected and infective rates, taking into account the infection processes both within a single site and among different sites. In a spreading process the states of an individual include susceptible (S), incubative (I), active (A) and recovered (R) states. Although the transition from S to I mainly depends on the active rate, the susceptible rate and the connectivity among individuals, the transitions from I to A and from A to R are determined by intrinsic characteristics of disease development in individuals. We adopt incubation and infection periods to describe the intrinsic features of the disease. By numerically solving the equations we find that the asymptotic behavior of the spreading crucially depends on the infection period and the population under affection of an active individual. Other factors, such as the structure of network and the popular distribution, play less important roles. The study may provide useful information for analyzing the key parameters affecting the dynamics and the asymptotic behavior.  相似文献

We study a class of discrete dynamical systems models of neuronal networks. In these models, each neuron is represented by a finite number of states and there are rules for how a neuron transitions from one state to another. In particular, the rules determine when a neuron fires and how this affects the state of other neurons. In an earlier paper [D. Terman, S. Ahn, X. Wang, W. Just, Reducing neuronal networks to discrete dynamics, Physica D 237 (2008) 324-338], we demonstrate that a general class of excitatory-inhibitory networks can, in fact, be rigorously reduced to the discrete model. In the present paper, we analyze how the connectivity of the network influences the dynamics of the discrete model. For randomly connected networks, we find two major phase transitions. If the connection probability is above the second but below the first phase transition, then starting in a generic initial state, most but not all cells will fire at all times along the trajectory as soon as they reach the end of their refractory period. Above the first phase transition, this will be true for all cells in a typical initial state; thus most states will belong to a minimal attractor of oscillatory behavior (in a sense that is defined precisely in the paper). The exact positions of the phase transitions depend on intrinsic properties of the cells including the lengths of the cells’ refractory periods and the thresholds for firing. Existence of these phase transitions is both rigorously proved for sufficiently large networks and corroborated by numerical experiments on networks of moderate size.  相似文献

We propose a model of an underlying mechanism responsible for the formation of assortative mixing in networks between “similar” nodes or vertices based on generic vertex properties. Existing models focus on a particular type of assortative mixing, such as mixing by vertex degree, or present methods of generating a network with certain properties, rather than modeling a mechanism driving assortative mixing during network growth. The motivation is to model assortative mixing by non-topological vertex properties, and the influence of these non-topological properties on network topology. The model is studied in detail for discrete and hierarchical vertex properties, and we use simulations to study the topology of resulting networks. We show that assortative mixing by generic properties directly drives the formation of community structure beyond a threshold assortativity of r ∼0.5, which in turn influences other topological properties. This direct relationship is demonstrated by introducing a new measure to characterise the correlation between assortative mixing and community structure in a network. Additionally, we introduce a novel type of assortative mixing in systems with hierarchical vertex properties, from which a hierarchical community structure is found to result. The purple molybdenum bronze KMo6O17 is a quasi-two-dimensional compound which shows a Peierls transition towards a commensurate metallic charge density wave (CDW) state. High magnetic field measurements have revealed several transitions at low temperature and have provided an unusual phase diagram “temperature-magnetic field”. Angular studies of the interlayer magnetoresistance are now reported. The results suggest that the orbital coupling of the magnetic field to the CDW is the most likely mechanism for the field induced transitions. The angular dependence of the magnetoresistance is discussed on the basis of a warped quasi-cylindrical Fermi surface and provides information on the geometry of the Fermi surface in the low temperature density wave state.  相似文献

Periodic Wave of Epidemic Spreading in Community Networks   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
It was reported by Cummings ef al. [Nature 427 (2004) 344] that there are periodic waves in the spatiotemporal data of epidemics. For understanding the mechanism, we study the epidemic spreading on community networks by both the SIS model and the SIRS model. We find that with the increase of infection rate, the number of total infected nodes may be stabilized at a fixed point, oscillatory waves, and periodic cycles. Moreover, the epidemic spreading in the SIS model can be explained by an analytic map.  相似文献

In this work we report Monte Carlo simulations of a 2D Ising model, in which the statistics of the Metropolis algorithm is replaced by the nonextensive one. We compute the magnetization and show that phase transitions are present for q ≠ 1. A q - phase diagram (critical temperature vs. the entropic parameter q) is built and exhibits some interesting features, such as phases which are governed by the value of the entropic index q. It is shown that such phases favors some energy levels of magnetization states. It is also shown that the contribution of the Tsallis cutoff is capital to the existence of phase transitions.  相似文献

The interaction among the reacting species in the NO-CO reaction on a metal catalytic surface that proceeds according to the Langmuir-Hinshelwood thermal mechanism is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The study of this system is essential for the understanding of the influence of impurities on the catalytic oxidation of NO by CO. It is found that this complex system exhibits irreversible phase transitions between active states with sustained reaction and poisoned states without reaction. The same system has also been investigated by non-thermal (Eley-Rideal) mechanism. Both the phase diagrams of the surface coverage and the steady state production of CO2 and N2 are evaluated as a function of the partial pressures of the reactants in the gas phase. From this study, it is observed that with the increase of impurities, the production rate reduces and the reaction stops at a certain point. Moreover, the first order transition in the phase diagram converts into second order phase transition that is in accordance with the experimental findings. Therefore, the first order phase transition, which is a characteristic of such catalytic reactions, is eliminated.  相似文献

Traditionally, phase transitions are defined in the thermodynamic limit only. We discuss how phase transitions of first order (with phase separation and surface tension), continuous transitions and (multi)-critical points can be seen and classified for small systems. “Small” systems are systems where the linear dimension is of the characteristic range of the interaction between the particles; i.e. also astrophysical systems are “small” in this sense. Boltzmann defines the entropy as the logarithm of the area of the surface in the mechanical N-body phase space at total energy E. The topology of S(E,N) or more precisely, of the curvature determinant allows the classification of phase transitions without taking the thermodynamic limit. Micro-canonical thermo-statistics and phase transitions will be discussed here for a system coupled by short range forces in another situation where entropy is not extensive. The first calculation of the entire entropy surface S(E,N) for the diluted Potts model (ordinary (q=3)-Potts model plus vacancies) on a square lattice is shown. The regions in {E,N} where D>0 correspond to pure phases, ordered resp. disordered, and D<0 represent transitions of first order with phase separation and “surface tension”. These regions are bordered by a line with D=0. A line of continuous transitions starts at the critical point of the ordinary (q=3)-Potts model and runs down to a branching point Pm. Along this line vanishes in the direction of the eigenvector of D with the largest eigen-value . It characterizes a maximum of the largest eigenvalue . This corresponds to a critical line where the transition is continuous and the surface tension disappears. Here the neighboring phases are indistinguishable. The region where two or more lines with D=0 cross is the region of the (multi)-critical point. The micro-canonical ensemble allows to put these phenomena entirely on the level of mechanics. Starting from the instability diagram of a traffic flow model, we derive conditions for the occurrence of congested traffic states, their appearance, their spreading in space and time, and the related increase in travel times. We discuss the terminology of traffic phases and give empirical evidence for the existence of a phase diagram of traffic states. In contrast to previously presented phase diagrams, it is shown that “widening synchronized patterns” are possible, if the maximum flow is located inside of a metastable density regime. Moreover, for various kinds of traffic models with different instability diagrams it is discussed, how the related phase diagrams are expected to approximately look like. Apart from this, it is pointed out that combinations of on- and off-ramps create different patterns than a single, isolated on-ramp.  相似文献

The collective behavior in a variant of Schelling’s segregation model is characterized with methods borrowed from statistical physics, in a context where their relevance was not conspicuous. A measure of segregation based on cluster geometry is defined and several quantities analogous to those used to describe physical lattice models at equilibrium are introduced. This physical approach allows to distinguish quantitatively several regimes and to characterize the transitions between them, leading to the building of a phase diagram. Some of the transitions evoke empirical sudden ethnic turnovers. We also establish links with ‘spin-1’ models in physics. Our approach provides generic tools to analyze the dynamics of other socio-economic systems.  相似文献

We study the epidemic spreading of the susceptible-infected-susceptible model on small-world networks with modular structure. It is found that the epidemic threshold increases linearly with the modular strength. Furthermore, the modular structure may influence the infected density in the steady state and the spreading velocity at the beginning of propagation. Practically, the propagation can be hindered by strengthening the modular structure in the view of network topology. In addition, to reduce the probability of reconnection between modules may also help to control the propagation.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a rank-based model for weighted network. The evolution rule of the network is based on the ranking of node strength, which couples the topological growth and the weight dynamics. Analytically and by simulations, we demonstrate that the generated networks recover the scale-free distributions of degree and strength in the whole region of the growth dynamics parameter (α>0). Moreover, this network evolution mechanism can also produce scale-free property of weight, which adds deeper comprehension of the networks growth in the presence of incomplete information. We also characterize the clustering and correlation properties of this class of networks. It is showed that at α=1 a structural phase transition occurs, and for α>1 the generated network simultaneously exhibits hierarchical organization and disassortative degree correlation, which is consistent with a wide range of biological networks.  相似文献

The influence of environmental fluctuations (modeled as a multiplicative dichotomous noise) on predator–prey interaction is studied using a metapopulation model with N prey-subpopulations. Investigating the role that predator interference plays in the dynamics of such trophic systems, the Beddington functional response is considered. In case the growth rates of prey and predator are widely different, we obtain analytic results by a dynamical mean-field approximation. In some regions of the system parameters, variations of noise amplitude or correlation time can cause transitions of the mean field from a globally stable equilibrium to the stable limit cycle as well as in the opposite direction. The conditions for the occurrence of such a phenomenon are found and illustrated by phase diagrams. Implications of the results on the colored-noise-induced extinction of a predator population are also discussed.  相似文献

The relevant dynamics of a queueing process can be anticipated by taking future arrivals into account. If the transport from one queue to another is associated with transportation delays, as it is typical for traffic or productions networks, future arrivals to a queue are known over some time horizon and, thus, can be used for an anticipative control of the corresponding flows. A queue is controlled by switching its outflow between “on” and “off” similar to green and red traffic lights, where switching to “on” requires a non-zero setup time. Due to the presence of both continuous and discrete state variables, the queueing process is described as a hybrid dynamical system. From this formulation, we derive one observable of fundamental importance: the green time required to clear the queue. This quantity allows to detect switching time points for serving platoons without delay, i.e., in a “green wave” manner. Moreover, we quantify the cost of delaying the start of a service period or its termination in terms of additional waiting time. Our findings may serve as a basis for strategic control decisions.  相似文献

We study the coevolution process in Axelrod's model by taking into account of agents' abilities to access information, which is described by a parameter α to control the geographical range of communication. We observe two kinds of phase transitions in both cultural domains and network fragments, which depend on the parameter α. By simulation, we find that not all rewiring processes pervade the dissemination of culture, that is, a very limited ability to access information constrains the cultural dissemination, while an exceptional ability to access information aids the dissemination of culture. Furthermore, by analyzing the network characteristics at the frozen states, we find that there exists a stage at which the network develops to be a small-world network with community structures.  相似文献

The inter-event time of terrorism attack events is investigated by empirical data and model analysis. Empirical evidence shows that it follows a scale-free property. In order to understand the dynamic mechanism of such a statistical feature, an opinion dynamic model with a memory effect is proposed on a two-dimensional lattice network. The model mainly highlights the role of individual social conformity and self-affirmation psychology. An attack event occurs when the order parameter indicating the strength of public opposition opinion is smaller than a critical value. Ultimately, the model can reproduce the same statistical property as the empirical data and gives a good understanding for the possible dynamic mechanism of terrorism attacks.  相似文献

Interactions among the reacting species NO, CO and O2 on metal catalytic surfaces are studied by means of Monte Carlo simulation using the Eley-Rideal (ER) mechanism. The study of this three-component system is important for understanding of the reaction kinetics by varying the relative ratios of the reactants. It is found that contrary to the conventional Langmuir-Hinshelwood (LFI) thermal mechanism in which two irreversible phase transitions are obtained between active states and poisoned states, a single phase transition is observed when the ER mechanism is combined with the LH mechanism. The phase diagrams of the surface coverage and the steady state production of CO2, N2 and N2O are evaluated as a function of the partial pressures of the reactants in the gas phase. The continuous production of CO2 starts as soon as the CO pressure is switched on and the second order phase transition at the first critical point is eliminated, which is in agreement with the experimental findings.  相似文献

Social networks in communities, markets, and societies self-organise through the interactions of many individuals. In this paper we use a well-known mechanism of social interactions — the balance of sentiment in triadic relations — to describe the development of social networks. Our model contrasts with many existing network models, in that people not only establish but also break up relations whilst the network evolves. The procedure generates several interesting network features such as a variety of degree distributions and degree correlations. The resulting network converges under certain conditions to a steady critical state where temporal disruptions in triangles follow a power-law distribution.  相似文献

The one-dimensional Domany-Kinzel cellular automaton is investigated by two numerical approaches: (i) the spontaneous-search method, which is a method appropriated for a search of criticality; (ii) short-time dynamics. Both critical frontiers of the system are investigated, namely, the one separating the frozen and active phases, as well as the critical line determined by damage spreading between two cellular automata, that splits the active phase into the nonchaotic and chaotic phases. The efficiency of the spontaneous-search method is established herein through a precise estimate of both critical frontiers, and in addition to that, it is shown that this method may also be used in the determination of the critical exponent ν. Using the critical frontiers obtained, other exponents are estimated through short-time dynamics. It is verified that the critical exponents of both critical frontiers fall in the universality class of directed percolation.  相似文献
