In this article, we have applied solid‐state 13C NMR techniques, cross‐polarization/magic‐angle spinning (CP/MAS), and single‐pulse 13C NMR to characterize the NB conformation of the cyclo‐olefin copolymer. The copolymers containing higher NB contents produce more NB blocks according to 13C CP/MAS spectral analysis. In addition, NB‐dyad‐based conformations are able to induce peak splitting in the region of 49–52 ppm. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 38: 2554–2563, 2000  相似文献

The C(2) isotropic chemical shift values in solid‐state CP/MAS 13C NMR spectra of conformational polymorphs Form I (δ 28.5) and III (δ 22.9) of (1S,4S)‐sertraline HCl ( 1 ) were correlated with a γ‐gauche effect resulting from the respective 162.6° antiperiplanar and 68.8° (+)‐synclinal C(2)? C(1)? N? CH3 torsion angles as measured by X‐ray crystallography. The similarity of the solution‐state C(2) chemical shifts in CD2Cl2 (δ 22.8) and DMSO‐d6 (δ 23.4) with that for Form III (and other polymorphs having C(2)? C(1)? N? CH3 (+)‐synclinal angles) strongly suggests that a conformational bias about the C(1)? N bond exists for 1 in both solvents. This conclusion is supported by density functional theory B3LYP/6‐31G(d)‐calculated relative energies of C(1)? N rotameric models: (kcal) 0.00 [73.8 °C(2)? C(1)? N? CH3 torsion angle], 0.88 (168.7°), and 2.40 (?63.4°). A Boltzmann distribution of these conformations at 25 °C is estimated to be respectively (%) 80.3, 18.3, and 1.4. Solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and relaxation measurements, together with DSC, have been used to elucidate the structures and molecular dynamics in poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (EVA). It has been found that besides immobile orthorhombic and monoclinic crystalline phases, the third mobile crystalline phase (possibly the phase) of a considerable amount (36% of total crystalline phases) appears in the EVA samples, which forms during room‐temperature aging as a result of the secondary crystallization and melts at temperature somewhat higher than room temperature. Such a mobile crystalline phase has not only the well‐defined chemical shift of its own, but also has different molecular mobility from the orthorhombic phase. The mobile crystalline phase is characterized by the rapid relaxation of the longitudinal magnetization, which is caused by conventional spin‐lattice relaxation, while the slow relaxation of the longitudinal magnetization occurring in the orthorhombic phase is originated from the chain diffusion. In addition, the amorphous phase also contains two components: an interfacial amorphous phase and a melt‐like amorphous phase. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents the high‐resolution 13C and 15N cross‐polarization magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) NMR spectra of three natural melanin solids: Sepia officinalis melanin, Sepia officinalis melanin free acid (MFA) and Human hair melanin. The functional group characterization of Human hair melanin by NMR is the first to date and the 13C CP/MAS NMR spectra reported here show improved resolution of chemically inequivalent sites. The observed spectral regions of the solid melanin samples can be assigned to the postulated structural unit of the polymer chain of Sepia MFA derived from solution‐state NMR studies. To assist in the assignment of functional groups in the spectra, the solid‐state CP/MAS NMR spectra are compared with high‐resolution 13C and 15N CP/MAS spectra of four model compounds, L ‐dopa, dopamine, 2‐methoxycarbonyl‐3‐ethoxycarbonyl‐4‐methylpyrrole and ethyl 5,6‐dimethoxyindole‐2‐carboxylate. To aid further in the assignment of protonated and non‐protonated carbon atoms, CP contact time dependence and non‐quaternary carbon suppression (NQS) experiments were performed on the melanin samples. The 15N CP/MAS spectra of the melanin samples confirm the presence of indole and pyrrole units in the melanin polymer chain. The NMR peaks observed in all of the melanin samples are relatively broad, presumably owing to the presence of free radicals. Electron spin resonance (ESR) data shows that all three melanin samples contain localized free radicals (g = 2.007), with the Sepia melanin containing a 10‐fold higher free radical density than Human hair melanin. 4‐(Phenylethynyl‐α,β‐13C)phthalic anhydride (PEPA) and 13C‐labeled phenylethynyl‐terminated imide (PETI) oligomers were synthesized, and solid‐state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used to determine the structure of cured oligomers. Solid‐state 13C NMR spectra were collected before and after thermal curing. Using solid‐state 13C NMR difference spectroscopy, several cure products were identified. The observed 13C NMR resonances were assigned to four different classes of cure products: aromatics, products from backbone addition (substituted stilbenes and tetraphenylethanes), polyenes, and cyclobutadiene cyclodimers. The effects of postcuring and oligomer chain length on the structure of the cured resins were examined. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 3486–3497, 2000  相似文献

A biodegradable diblock copolymer of poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) was synthesized and characterized. The inclusion compound (IC) of this copolymer with α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) was formed and characterized. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction showed that in the IC crystals α‐CDs were packed in the channel mode, which isolated and restricted the individual guest copolymer chains to highly extended conformation. Solid‐state 13C NMR techniques were used to investigate the morphology and dynamics of both the bulk and α‐CD‐IC isolated PCL‐b‐PLLA chains. The conformation of the PCL blocks isolated within the α‐CD cavities was similar to the crystalline conformation of PCL blocks in the bulk copolymer. Spin–lattice relaxation time (T1C) measurements revealed a dramatic difference in the mobilities of the semicrystalline bulk copolymer chains and those isolated in the α‐CD‐IC channels. Carbon‐observed proton spin–lattice relaxation in the rotating frame measurements (TH) showed that the bulk copolymer was phase‐separated, while, in the IC, exchange of proton magnetization through spin‐diffusion between the isolated guest polymer chains and the host α‐CD was not complete. The two‐dimensional solid‐state heteronuclear correlation (HetCor) method was also employed to monitor proton communication in these samples. Intrablock exchange of proton magnetization was observed in both the bulk semicrystalline and IC copolymer samples at short mixing times; however, even at the longest mixing time, interblock proton communication was not observed in either sample. In spite of the physical closeness between the isolated included guest chains and the host α‐CD molecules, efficient proton spin diffusion was not observed between them in the IC. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article presents the effects of strong ionizing radiations on the physico‐chemical modifications of aliphatic or aromatic amine‐cured epoxy resins based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). Such epoxy resins have a considerable number of applications in the nuclear industrial field and are known to be very stable under moderate irradiation conditions. Using extensively high resolution solid‐state 13C‐NMR spectroscopy we show that the aliphatic amine‐cured resin (DGEBA‐TETA) appears much more sensitive to gamma rays than the aromatic amine‐cured one (DGEBA‐DDM). On the one hand, qualitative analyses of the high resolution solid‐state 13C‐NMR spectra of both epoxy resins, irradiated under similar conditions (8.5 MGy), reveal almost no change in the aromatic amine‐cured resin whereas new resonances are observed for the aliphatic amine‐cured resin. These new peaks were interpreted as the formation of new functional groups such as amides, acids and/or esters and to alkene groups probably formed in the aliphatic amine skeleton. On the other hand, molecular dynamics of these polymers are investigated by measuring the relaxation times, TCH, T1ρH and T1C , before and after irradiation. The study of relaxation data shows the formation, under irradiation, of a more rigid network, especially for the aliphatic amine‐cured system and confirms that aromatic amine‐cured resin [DGEBA‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenylmethane(DDM)] is much less affected by ionizing radiations than the aliphatic amine‐cured resin [DGEBA‐triethylenetetramine(TETA)]. Moreover, it has been shown that the molecular modifications generated by irradiation on the powder of the aliphatic‐amine‐cured resin appear to be homogeneously distributed inside the polymers as no phase separations can be deduced from the above analyses. Recent advances in solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, such as magic angle spinning and high‐power decoupling, have dramatically increased the sensitivity and resolution of NMR. However, these NMR techniques generate extra heat, causing a temperature difference between the sample in the rotor and the variable temperature gas. This extra heating is a particularly crucial problem for hydrated lipid membrane samples. Thus, to develop an NMR thermometer that is suitable for hydrated lipid samples, thulium‐1,4,7,10‐tetraazacyclododecane‐1,4,7,10‐tetraacetate (TmDOTA) was synthesized and labeled with 13C (i.e., 13C‐TmDOTA) to increase the NMR sensitivity. The complex was mixed with a hydrated lipid membrane, and the system was subjected to solid‐state NMR and differential scanning calorimetric analyses. The physical properties of the lipid bilayer and the quality of the NMR spectra of the membrane were negligibly affected by the presence of 13C‐TmDOTA, and the 13C chemical shift of the complex exhibited a large‐temperature dependence. The results demonstrated that 13C‐TmDOTA could be successfully used as a thermometer to accurately monitor temperature changes induced by 1H decoupling pulses and/or by magic angle spinning and the temperature distribution of the sample inside the rotor. Thus, 13C‐TmDOTA was shown to be a versatile thermometer for hydrated lipid assemblies. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Multinuclear solid‐state NMR and powder X‐ray diffraction data collected for phosphonate materials Zr(O3PC6H4PO3) · 3.6H2O and Sn(O3PC6H4PO3)0.85(O3POH)0.30 · 3.09H2O have resulted in the layered structure, where the phosphonic acids cross‐link the layers. The main structural motif (the 111 connectivity in the PO3 group) has been established by determination of chemical shift anisotropy parameters for phosphorus nuclei in the phosphonate groups. An analysis of the variable‐temperature 31P T1 measurements and the shapes of the phosphorus resonances in the 31P static NMR spectra have resulted in the dipolar mechanism of the phosphorus spin‐lattice relaxation, where the rotating phenylene rings reorient dipolar vectors PH as a driving force of the relaxation process. It has been found that water protons do not affect the 31P T1 times. The activation energy of the phenylene rotation in both compounds has been determined as low as 12.5 kJ/mol. The interpretation of the phosphorus relaxation data has been independently confirmed by the measurements of 1H T1 times for protons of the phenylene rings.  相似文献

The structure of laboratory‐made polyHIPEs was successfully characterized by cross‐polarity/magic‐angle spinning, solid‐state 13C NMR experiments. The signals of vinyl groups appeared in the spectrum of the polyHIPE precursor PH? CH?CH2, which was prepared by the polymerization of the divinylbenzene continuous phase from a highly concentrated reverse emulsion. This material was chemically modified by the regioselective free‐radical addition of thiols to the pendant vinyl groups. Spectra of materials modified by the grafting of C8 and C12 alkyl chains, PH? SC8 and PH? SC12, respectively, were produced. The signals of the vinyl groups disappeared in favor of methylene groups. This experiment clearly established that the alkyl chains were covalently bound to the polymer. To elucidate the dynamic aspect of long chains in polyHIPE, we measured the 13C spin–lattice relaxation times (T1) of PH? SC12 from 25 to 100 °C with variable‐temperature, solid‐state, high‐resolution 13C NMR spectroscopy, revealing a strong variation in T1 along the alkyl side chain. Furthermore, the crystallinity of a wide range of chemically modified polyHIPEs, including PH? SC12, was studied with pulse 1H NMR. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Solid‐state cross‐polarization magic angle spinning 13C, 77Se and 15N NMR spectra were recorded for 1,3‐imidazolidine‐2‐selenone, its N‐substituted derivatives and some related compounds. The spinning sideband manifold intensities were used to obtain principal values of 13C and 77Se chemical shift tensors. Large selenium chemical shift anisotropies were observed for these selenones. Blends of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with Poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) were investigated by Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high‐resolution solid‐state 13C cross‐polarization/magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The intermolecular interactions between PVP and PVC are weaker than the self‐association of PVP and the inclusion of the miscible PVC results in the decreased self‐association of PVP chains, which was evidenced by the observation of high‐frequency shift of amide stretching vibration bands of PVP with inclusion of PVC. This result was further substantiated by the study of 13C CP/MAS spectra, in which the chemical shift of carbonyl resonance of PVP was observed to shift to a high field with inclusion of PVC, indicating that the magnetic shielding of the carbonyl carbon nucleus is increased. The proton spin‐lattice relaxation time in the laboratory frame (T1 (H)) and the proton spin‐lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame (T(H)) were measured as a function of the blend composition to give the information about phase structure. It is concluded that the PVC and PVP chains are intimately mixed on the scale of 20–30Å. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 37: 2412–2419, 1999  相似文献

Determination of the level and absolute configuration of 2‐hydroxyglutaric acid in a patient's urine is a method of diagnosing two metabolic diseases. Such a determination can be done with the aid of NMR spectroscopic methods. In this paper the careful interpretation of 1H and 13C NMR spectra of this metabolite and its lactone measured under conditions used in biomedical assays is reported. The 1H chemical shifts and spin–spin coupling constants were derived using the total lineshape analysis method. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The phase structure of a series of ethylene‐vinyl acetate copolymers has been investigated by solid‐state wide‐line 1H NMR and solid‐state high‐resolution 13C NMR spectroscopy. Not only the degree of crystallinity but the relative contents of the monoclinic and orthorhombic crystals within the crystalline region varied with the vinyl acetate (VA) content. Biexponential 13C NMR spin–lattice relaxation behavior was observed for the crystalline region of all samples. The component with longer 13C NMR spin–lattice relaxation time (T1) was attributed to the internal part of the crystalline region, whereas the component with shorter 13C NMR T1 to the mobile crystalline component was located between the noncrystalline region and the internal part of the crystalline region. The content of the mobile crystalline component relative to the internal part of the crystalline region increased with the VA content, showing that the 13C NMR spin–lattice relaxation behavior is closely related to the crystalline structure of the copolymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. NMR studies of the structure and dynamics of a system composed of the acidic polymer poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and the basic polymer poly(4‐vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) are presented. This system aims at the application of anhydrous proton‐conducting membranes that can be used at elevated temperatures at which the proton conduction of hydrated membranes breaks down. The 1H NMR measurements have been preformed under fast magic angle spinning (MAS) conditions to achieve sufficient resolution and the applied 1H NMR methods vary from simple 1H MAS to double‐quantum filtered methods and two‐dimensional 1H double‐quantum spectroscopy. The dynamic behavior of the systems has been investigated via variable temperature 1H MAS NMR. 13C cross‐polarization MAS NMR provides additional aspects of dynamic and structural features to complete the picture. Different types of acidic protons have been identified in the studied PAA‐P4VP systems that are nonhydrogen‐bonded free acidic protons, hydrogen‐bonded dicarboxylic dimers, and protons forming hydrogen bonds between carboxylic protons and ring nitrogens. The conversion of dimer structures in dried PAA to free carboxylic acid groups is accomplished at temperatures above 380 K. However, the stability of hydrogen‐bonding strongly depends on the hydration level of the polymer systems. The effect of hydration becomes less apparent in the complexes. An inverse proportionality between hydrogen‐bonding strength and proton conduction in the PAA‐P4VP acid–base polymer blend systems was established. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2H, 31P, and 1H‐magic‐angle‐spinning (MAS) solid‐state NMR spectroscopic methods were used to elucidate the interaction between sorbic acid, a widely used weak acid food preservative, and 1,2‐dimyristoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine (DMPC) bilayers under both acidic and neutral pH conditions. The linewidth broadening observed in the 31P NMR powder pattern spectra and the changes in the 31P longitudinal relaxation time (T1) indicate interaction with the phospholipid headgroup upon titration of sorbic acid or decanoic acid into DMPC bilayers over the pH range from 3.0 to 7.4. The peak intensities of sorbic acid decrease upon addition of paramagnetic Mn2+ ions in DMPC bilayers as recorded in the 1H MAS NMR spectra, suggesting that sorbic acid molecules are in close proximity with the membrane/aqueous surface. No significant 2H quadrupolar splitting (ΔνQ) changes are observed in the 2H NMR spectra of DMPC‐d54 upon titration of sorbic acid, and the change of pH has a slight effect on ΔνQ, indicating that sorbic acid has weak influence on the orientation order of the DMPC acyl chains in the fluid phase over the pH range from 3.0 to 7.4. This finding is in contrast to the results of the decanoic acid/DMPC‐d54 systems, where ΔνQ increases as the concentration of decanoic acid increases. Thus, in the membrane association process, sorbic acids are most likely interacting with the headgroups and shallowly embedded near the top of the phospholipid headgroups, rather than inserting deep into the acyl chains. Thus, antimicrobial mode of action for sorbic acid may be different from that of long‐chain fatty acids. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The miscibility and thermal properties of poly(N‐phenyl‐2‐hydroxytrimethylene amine)/poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PHA/PVP) blends were examined by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), high‐resolution solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that PHA is miscible with PVP, as shown by the existence of a single composition‐dependent glass transition temperature (Tg) in the whole composition range. The DSC results, together with the 13C crosspolarization (CP)/magic angle spinning (MAS)/high‐power dipolar decoupling (DD) spectra of the blends, revealed that there exist rather strong intermolecular interactions between PHA and PVP. The increase in hydrogen bonding and in Tg of the blends was found to broaden the line width of CH—OH carbon resonance of PHA. The measurement of the relaxation time showed that the PHA/PVP blends are homogeneous at least on the scale of 1–2 nm. The proton spin‐lattice relaxation in both the laboratory frame and the rotating frame were studied as a function of the blend composition, and it was found that blending did not appreciably affect the spectral densities of motion (sub‐Tg relaxation) in the mid‐MHz and mid‐KHz frequency ranges. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that PHA has rather good thermal stability, and the thermal stability of the blend can be further improved with increasing PVP content. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Trimethylphosphine (TMP) has been adsorbed in carbon nanotubes and oxidized to trimethylphosphine oxide (TMPO). 31P spin–lattice relaxation T 1 measurements at temperatures from 203 to 333 K have been employed to investigate the motions of TMPO. The 31P T 1 is found to be monoexponential and isotropic. The activation energy is measured as 4.4 ± 0.3 kcal•mol−1, which is comparable to that of TMP adsorbed on Lewis acid sites in zeolites.  相似文献

Dry and hydrated poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) gels with 55% (a‐PVA) and 61% (s‐PVA) syndiotacticity and related PVA/lactyl chitosan (LC) blends have been investigated with 129Xe and cross‐polarization/magic‐angle‐spinning 13C NMR techniques. Although the dry gels exhibit two broad 129Xe resonances in the slow‐to‐intermediate exchange limit, both hydrated gels show three resonances. The corresponding dry blends exhibit two signals, the chemical shifts and line widths of which change with respect to those of pure PVA, whereas one (a‐PVA/LC) or two (s‐PVA/LC) signals appear in the spectra of the hydrated blends. A comparative analysis of the data demonstrates that LC rearranges the domains of the polymeric matrix in both the dry and hydrated blends according to the syndiotacticity of the PVA chains. Information on the molecular motions of the amorphous and swollen polymeric domains in the kilohertz range has been obtained from an analysis of the spin‐lattice relaxation times. These data indicate that the dynamics and arrangement of the PVA chains in the gels are strongly affected by their tacticity and the addition of the copolymer LC. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
