A well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymer, with polyacrylate as backbone, hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(methacrylic acid) as side chains, was synthesized via successive atom transfer radical polymerization followed by the selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains. The grafting‐through strategy was first used to prepare poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate] comb copolymer. The obtained comb copolymer was transformed into macroinitiator by reacting with lithium diisopropylamine and 2‐bromopropionyl chloride. Afterwards, grafting‐from route was employed for the synthesis of poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) amphiphilic graft copolymer. The molecular weight distribution of this amphiphilic graft copolymer was narrow. Poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains were connected to polyacrylate backbone through stable C? C bonds instead of ester connections. The final product, poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(methacrylate acid), was obtained by selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains under mild conditions without affecting the polyacrylate backbone. This double hydrophilic graft copolymer was found be stimuli‐responsive to pH and ionic strength. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4056–4069, 2008  相似文献

N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) was graft copolymerized on poly[(trimethylsilyl)propyne] (PTMSP) by single electron reduction of PTMSP with potassium naphthalenide (K-Naph), followed by anion polymerization of DMAA from the carbanion formed in the reduction. A hard and practically non-water-swelling PTMSP-gr-poly(DMAA) was obtained under the conditions using controlled amount of K-Naph and DMAA. The graft copolymer was characterized with regard to structure, number-averaged molecular weight, and the amount of grafting poly(DMAA) determined by the relative absorbance of the IR absorption band assigned to the CO and SiC H functionalities (ACO/ASiC H). The oxygen permeability and water contact angle (θ) of the graft copolymer were evaluated while varying the amount of grafting poly(DMAA). The graft copolymer proved to be highly oxygen permeable (165 Barrers) and hydrophilic (θ = 27°). Its transparency was also elucidated with UV–vis spectra. This graft copolymer was proposed as a promising candidate for use as a hard contact lens material. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 603–610, 1998  相似文献

Blends of isotactic (natural) poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are partially miscible, and PHB in excess of 20 wt % segregates as a partially crystalline pure phase. Copolymers containing atactic PHB chains grafted onto a PMMA backbone are used to compatibilize phase‐separated PHB/PMMA blends. Two poly(methyl methacrylate‐g‐hydroxybutyrate) [P(MMA‐g‐HB)] copolymers with different grafting densities and the same length of the grafted chain have been investigated. The copolymer with higher grafting density, containing 67 mol % hydroxybutyrate units, has a beneficial effect on the mechanical properties of PHB/PMMA blends with 30–50% PHB content, which show a remarkable increase in ductility. The main effect of copolymer addition is the inhibition of PHB crystallization. No compatibilizing effect on PHB/PMMA blends with PHB contents higher than 50% is observed with various amounts of P(MMA‐g‐HB) copolymer. In these blends, the graft copolymer is not able to prevent PHB crystallization, and the ternary PHB/PMMA/P(MMA‐g‐HB) blends remain crystalline and brittle. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermosensitive and redox-active polymers were prepared by copolymerization of N-ethyl- or N,N-diethylacrylamides with vinylferrocene (VFc). LCST (lower critical solution temperature) of the aqueous copolymer solution was decreased by increasing the ferrocene content in the copolymer. The oxidation of ferrocene led to a significant increase in LCST due to the transition from hydrophobic to hydrophilic character of the ferrocene moiety in the copolymer. The ferrocene content in the copolymer increases with increasing differences between the LCST's of the oxidation and reduction states. The transition could be made reversible by redox reaction using L -ascorbic acid as an oxidant and cerium sulfate as a reductant. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(methylphenylsiloxane)–poly(methyl methacrylate) graft copolymers (PSXE-g-PMMA) were prepared by condensation reaction of poly(methylphenylsiloxane)-containing epoxy resin (PSXE) with carboxyl-terminated poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and they were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), infrared (IR), and 29Si and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The microstructure of the PSXE-g-PMMA graft copolymer was investigated by proton spin–spin relaxation T2 measurements. The thermal stability and apparent activation energy for thermal degradation of these copolymers were studied by thermogravimetry and compared with unmodified PMMA. The incorporation of poly(methylphenylsiloxane) segments in graft copolymers improved thermal stability of PMMA and enhanced the activation energy for thermal degradation of PMMA. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This paper aims at reporting on the synthesis of a heterograft copolymer by combining the “grafting onto” process based on atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) and the “grafting from” process by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The statistical copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone (εCL) and α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone (αClεCL) was initiated by 2,2‐dibutyl‐2‐stanna‐1,3‐dioxepane (DSDOP), followed by ATRA of parts of the chlorinated units of poly(αClεCL‐co‐εCL) on the terminal double bond of α‐MeO,ω‐CH2?CH? CH2? CO2‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). The amphiphilic poly(εCL‐g‐EO) graft copolymer collected at this stage forms micelles as supported by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The unreacted pendant chloro groups of poly(εCL‐g‐EO) were used to initiate the ATRP of styrene with formation of copolymer with two populations of randomly distributed grafts, that is PEO and polystyrene. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of new functional poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl alcohol)‐g‐polystyrene graft copolymers (EVAL‐g‐PS) with controlled molecular weight (Mn = 38,000–94,000 g mol?1) and molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 2.31–3.49) were synthesized via a grafting from methodology. The molecular structure and component of EVAL‐g‐PS graft copolymers were confirmed by the analysis of their 1H NMR spectra and GPC curves. The porous films of such copolymers were fabricated via a static breath‐figure (BF) process. The influencing factors on the morphology of such porous films, such as solvent, temperature, polymer concentration, and molecular weight of polymer were investigated. Ordered porous film and better regularity was fabricated through a static BF process using EVAL‐g‐PS solution in CHCl3. Scanning electron microscopy observation reveals that the EVAL‐g‐PS graft copolymer is an efficient compatibilizer for the blend system of low‐density polyethylene/polystyrene. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined ferrocene‐based amphiphilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐PEA) backbone and poly(2‐acryloyloxyethyl ferrocenecarboxylate) (PAEFC) side chains, were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A new ferrocene‐based monomer, 2‐(acryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocenecarboxylate (AEFC), was prepared first and it can be polymerized via ATRP in a controlled way using methyl 2‐bromopropionate as initiator and CuBr/PMDETA as catalytic system in DMF at 40 °C. PNIPAM‐b‐PEA backbone was synthesized by sequential SET‐LRP of NIPAM and HEA at 25 °C using CuCl/Me6TREN as catalytic system followed by the transformation into the macroinitiator by treating the pendant hydroxyls with α‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. The targeted well‐defined graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.20) were synthesized via ATRP of AEFC initiated by the macroinitiator. The electro‐chemical behaviors of PAEFC homopolymer and PNIPAM‐b‐(PEA‐g‐PAEFC) graft copolymer were studied by cyclic voltammetry. Micellar properties of PNIPAM‐b‐(PEA‐g‐PAEFC) were investigated by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new biodegradable starch graft copolymer, starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one), was synthesized through the ring‐opening graft polymerization of 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one onto a starch backbone. The grafting reactions were conducted with various 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one/starch feed ratios to obtain starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) copolymers with various poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) graft structures. The microstructure of starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) was characterized in detail with one‐ and two‐dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The effect of the feed composition on the resulting microstructure of starch‐g‐poly(1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) was investigated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Glycerol 1,3-diglycerolate diacrylate (GDD) was graft copolymerized onto poly(3-hydroxyoctanoate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) P(3HO-co-3HHX) to render the latter more hydrophilic. Grafting of P(3HO-co-3HHX) backbone was performed using benzoyl peroxide as free radical initiator in homogenous acetone solution. The graft copolymer of P(3HO-co-3HHX)-g-GDD was characterized using spectroscopic and thermal methods. The presence of GDD monomer in the grafted P(3HO-co-3HHX) materials linked through covalent bond was indicated by spectroscopic analyses. Different parameters affecting the graft yield viz. monomer concentration, initiator concentration, temperature and reaction time were also investigated. Water uptake measurement showed that P(3HO-co-3HHX)-g-GDD copolymer became more hydrophilic as the GDD concentration in the copolymer increased. Introduction of hydroxyl groups via grafted GDD monomers improved the wettability and imparted amphiphilicity to the graft copolymer, thus potentially improving their facility for cellular interaction. Thermal stability of grafted copolymer reduced with increased grafting yield. The activation energy, Ea, for the graft copolymerization was calculated at ~ 51 kJ mol?1. Mechanism of grafting reaction was also proposed.  相似文献

The effect of the degree of grafting (DOG) on the thermal behavior of poly(vinylbenzyl chloride)‐grafted poly(ethylene‐co‐tetrafluoroethylene) (ETFE‐g‐PVBC) films was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic mechanical analysis ( DMA), FT‐IR, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) instruments. Several ETFE‐g‐PVBC films with various degrees of grafting, including 10, 24, 41, 60, and 94%, were prepared using a radiation grafting technique. The DSC and XRD results of the ETFE‐g‐PVBC films revealed that the crystallinity of the films decreased as the DOG increased. The DMA and FT‐IR results of the films indicated that a crosslinking reaction occurred at temperatures above 250 °C. In the thermal properties of the grafted films, an increase in the DOG led to an increase in the decomposition temperature. The activation energy (Ea) of the thermal decomposition was calculated using Kissinger's equation from TGA results. The Ea value of the PVBC graft chain was found to increase as the DOG increased, indicating that the crosslinking reaction of ETFE‐g‐PVBC films increased with an increase in the DOG during the thermal degradation process. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To improve the surface of carbon fiber, the grafting reaction of copolymer containing vinyl ferrocene (VFE) onto a carbon‐fiber surface by a ligand‐exchange reaction between ferrocene moieties of the copolymer and polycondensed aromatic rings of carbon fiber was investigated. The copolymer containing VFE was prepared by the radical copolymerization of VFE with vinyl monomers, such as methyl methacrylate (MMA) and styrene, using 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. By heating the carbon fiber with poly(VFE‐co‐MMA) (number‐average molecular weight: 2.1 × 104) in the presence of aluminum chloride and aluminum powder, the copolymer was grafted onto the surface. The percentage of grafting reached 46.1%. On the contrary, in the absence of aluminum chloride, no grafting of the copolymer was observed. Therefore, it is considered that the copolymer was grafted onto the carbon‐fiber surface by a ligand‐exchange reaction between ferrocene moieties of the copolymer and polycondensed aromatic rings of carbon fiber. The molar number of grafted polymer chain on the carbon‐fiber surface decreased with increasing molecular weight of poly(VFE‐co‐MMA) because the steric hindrance of grafted copolymer on the carbon‐fiber surface increases with increasing molecular weight of poly(VFE‐co‐MMA). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new “grafting from” strategy for grafting of different monomers (methacrylates, acrylates, and acrylamide) on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) backbone is designed using atom transfer radical coupling (ATRC) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). 4‐Hydroxy TEMPO moieties are anchored on PVDF backbone by ATRC followed by attachment of ATRP initiating sites chosen according to the reactivity of different monomers. High graft conversion is achieved and grafting of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) exhibits high degree of polymerization (DPn = 770) with a very low graft density (0.18 per hundred VDF units) which has been increased to 0.44 by regenerating the active catalyst with the addition of Cu(0). A significant impact on thermal and stress–strain property of graft copolymers on the graft density and graft length is noted. Higher tensile strain and toughness are observed for PVDF‐g‐PMMA produced from model initiator but graft copolymer from pure PVDF exhibits higher tensile strength and Young's modulus. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(tert‐butyl methacrylate)‐graft‐poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PtBuMA‐g‐PDMS) graft copolymers were synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization of methacryloyl‐terminated poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS‐MA) with tert‐butyl methacrylate (tBuMA) in ethyl acetate, using 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN) as the initiator and 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate as the RAFT agent. The RAFT statistical copolymerization of PDMS‐MA with tBuMA is shown to be azeotropic and the obtained PtBuMA‐g‐PDMS graft copolymers have homogeneously distributed branches because of the similar reactivity of monomers (rtBuMArPDMSMA ≈ 1). By the RAFT block copolymerization of PDMS‐MA with tBuMA, moreover, narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn < 1.3) PtBuMA‐g‐PDMS graft copolymers with gradient or blocky branch spacing were synthesized. The graft copolymers exhibit the glass transitions corresponding to the PDMS and PtBuMA phase, respectively. However, the arrangement of monomer units in copolymer chains and the length of PtBuMA moieties have important effects on the thermal behavior of PtBuMA‐g‐PDMS graft copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of natural rubber/poly (methyl methacrylate) blends (NR/PMMA) with and without the addition of graft copolymer (NR‐g‐PMMA) have been investigated. Dynamic mechanical spectroscopy is used to examine the effect of compatibilizer loading on storage modulus (E′), loss modulus (E″) and loss tangent (tan δ) at different temperatures and at different frequencies. The morphology of the blends indicates that the size of the dispersed phase decreased by the addition of a few percent of the graft copolymer followed by a leveling off at higher concentrations. This is an indication of interfacial saturation. Attempts have been made to correlate morphology with dynamic mechanical properties. Various models have been used to fit the experimental viscoelastic results. Differential scanning calorimetry has been used to analyze the glass‐transition temperatures of the blends. The thermal stability of the blends has been analyzed by thermogravimetry. Compatibilized blends are found to be more thermally stable than uncompatibilized blends. Finally the miscibility and mechanical properties of the blends annealed above Tg are evaluated. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci B: Polym Phys 38: 525–536, 2000  相似文献

Hydroxyl‐terminated poly(butadiene) (HTPB; Mn = 2100 g mol−1) was capped with 30 and 60 wt % of ɛ‐caprolactone to reach amphiphilic triblock copolymers in form of capped poly(butadiene) CPB. The former (CPB30; Mn = 3300 g/mol) is amorphous with a glass temperature of −56 °C. CPB60 (Mn = 4000 g mol−1) is semi‐crystalline with a melting point of 50 °C and a glass transition at −47 °C. The CPBs, HTPB and polycaprolactone diol (Mn = 2000 g mol−1) were used as soft segment components in the preparation of polyurethane elastomers (PUE), using a 1/1 mixture of an MDI prepolymer and uretonimine modified MDI, and hard phase components in form of 1,3‐propane diol, 1,4‐butane diol, and 1,5‐pentane diol. CPB‐based elastomers with 1,4 butane diol (8 wt %) show hard domains as fringed aggregates with a better connection to the continuous phase than the HTPB‐based PUE. The soft segment glass transition temperature (Tg) is at −28 °C for HTPB‐based PUE and at −43 °C for those of CPB. The tensile strength of the CPB30&60‐based PUE is found between 20 and 30 MPa at an elongation at break of 400% and 550%, respectively. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of novel graft copolymers consisting of perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) side chains were synthesized by the combination of thermal [2π + 2π] step‐growth cycloaddition polymerization of aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether monomer and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate. A new aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether monomer, 2‐methyl‐1,4‐bistrifluorovinyloxybenzene, was first synthesized in two steps from commercially available reagents, and this monomer was homopolymerized in diphenyl ether to provide the corresponding perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based homopolymer with methoxyl end groups. The fluoropolymer was then converted to ATRP macroinitiator by the monobromination of the pendant methyls with N‐bromosuccinimide and benzoyl peroxide. The grafting‐from strategy was finally used to obtain the novel poly(2‐methyl‐1,4‐bistrifluorovinyloxybenzene)‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate) graft copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.46) via ATRP of methyl methacrylate at 50 °C in anisole initiated by the Br‐containing macroinitiator using CuBr/dHbpy as catalytic system. These fluorine‐containing graft copolymers can dissolve in most organic solvents. This is the first example of the graft copolymer possessing perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based backbone. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

Graft copolymers comprising poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐chlorotrifluoroethylene) backbone and poly(styrene sulfonic acid) side chains, i.e. P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)‐g‐PSSA were synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) for composite nanofiltration (NF) membranes. Direct initiation of the secondary chlorinated site of CTFE units facilitates grafting of PSSA, as revealed by FT‐IR spectroscopy. The successful “grafting from” method and the microphase‐separated structure of the graft copolymer were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Wide angle X‐ray scattering (WAXS) also showed the decrease in the crystallinity of P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) upon graft copolymerization. Composite NF membranes were prepared from P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)‐g‐PSSA as a top layer coated onto P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) ultrafiltration support membrane. Both the rejections and the flux of composite membranes increased with increasing PSSA concentration due to the increase in SO3H groups and membrane hydrophilicity, as supported by contact angle measurement. The rejections of NF membranes containing 47 wt% of PSSA were 83% for Na2SO4 and 28% for NaCl, and the solution flux were 18 and 32 L/m2 hr, respectively, at 0.3 MPa pressure. A series of novel poly(ester‐carbonate)s bearing pendant allyl ester groups P(LA‐co‐MAC)s were prepared by ring‐opening copolymerization of L ‐lactide (LA) and 5‐methyl‐5‐allyloxycarbonyl‐1,3‐dioxan‐2‐one (MAC) with diethyl zinc (ZnEt2) as initiator. NMR analysis investigated the microstructure of the copolymer. DSC results indicated that the copolymers displayed a single glass‐transition temperature (Tg), which was indicative of a random copolymer, and the Tg decreased with increasing carbonate content in the copolymer. Then NHS‐activated folic acid (FA) first reacted with 2‐aminoethanethiol to yield FA‐SH; grafting FA‐SH to P(LA‐co‐MAC) in the presence of TEA produced P(LA‐co‐MAC)/FA. The structure of P(LA‐co‐MAC)/FA and its precursor were confirmed by 1H NMR and XPS analysis. Cell experiments showed that FA‐grafted P(LA‐co‐MAC) had improved adhesion and proliferation behavior of vero cells on the polymer films. Therefore, the novel FA‐grafted block copolymer is expected to find application in drug delivery or tissue engineering. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The graft polymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐g‐poly(?‐caprolactone)2 (PEO‐g‐PCL2) with modulated grafting sites was synthesized by the combination of ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) mechanism, efficient Williamson reaction, with thiol–ene addition reaction. First, the precursor of PEO‐Allyl‐PEO with two terminal hydroxyl groups and one middle allyl group was prepared by ROP of EO monomers. Then, the macroinitiator [PEO‐(OH)2‐PEO]s was synthesized by sequential Williamson reaction between terminal hydroxyl groups and thiol–ene addition reaction on pendant allyl groups. Finally, the graft polymer PEO‐g‐PCL2 was obtained by ROP of ?‐CL monomers using [PEO‐(OH)2‐PEO]s as macroinitiator. The target graft polymer and all intermediates were well characterized by the measurements of gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The crystallization behavior was investigated by the measurements of differential scanning calorimetry, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction and polarized optical microscope. The results showed that when the PCL content of side chains reached 59.2%, the crystalline structure had been dominated by PCL part and the crystalline structure formed by PEO part can be almost neglected. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
