Hydroxyl chain‐end functionalizations of polymeric organolithium compounds with oxetane (trimethylene oxide) were studied in benzene at 25 °C. Functionalizations of poly(styryl)lithium and polystyrene‐oligo‐butadienyllithium proceed efficiently to form the corresponding ω‐hydroxypropyl‐functionalized polymers in 98 and 97% isolated yields, respectively. No nonfunctional polymer (≤1–2%) was detected by thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis for either polymer. All functionalized polymers were characterized by 13C and 1H NMR analyses; no evidence for oxetane oligomerization at the chain end was observed. The MALDI‐TOF mass spectrum of ω‐hydroxypropylpolystyrene was consistent with the expected structure without any detectable oligomerization of oxetane. A small, but detectable series of peaks corresponding to nonfunctional polystyrene was also observed in the MALDI‐TOF mass spectrum. The functionalization of the adduct of 1,1‐diphenylethylene and PSLi produced the corresponding ω‐hydroxypropyl‐functionalized polymer in only 86% isolated yield. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The functionalization of polymeric organolithiums (PLi) with 3,4‐epoxy‐1‐butene (EPB) in a hydrocarbon solution yielded the corresponding hydroxybutene‐functionalized polymers in high yields (>95%). Three modes of addition of PLi to EPB were observed (1,4, 3,4, and 4,3). The products and chain‐end structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, attached‐proton‐test 13C NMR, calculated 13C NMR chemical shifts, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS). The regioselectivity of the addition depended on the PLi chain‐end structure, the reaction conditions, and the addition of lithium salts or Lewis bases. In the absence of additives, the functionalization of poly(styryl)lithium (PSli) produced equal amounts of 1,4‐, 3,4‐, and 4,3‐addition, as determined by quantitative 13C NMR analysis. The use of a low temperature (6 °C), inverse addition, the addition of triethylamine (TEA; [TEA]/[PSLi] = 20) as a Lewis base, or dienyllithium chain ends produced polymers with only the 1,4‐addition product. Mild dehydration of the hydroxybutene‐functionalized polymer with p‐toluenesulfonic acid produced the corresponding diene‐functionalized macromonomer, as shown by MALDI‐TOF MS. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The addition of lithium chloride promoted the coupling reaction of hydrocarbon solutions of poly(styryl)lithium (PSLi) and poly(isoprenyl)lithium (PILi) with 3‐dimethylaminopropyl chloride to form the corresponding ω‐dimethylamino‐functionalized polymers. Quantitative amine functionalization was achieved for PSLi and PILi in the presence of 1 and 10 equivalents, respectively, of LiCl in benzene; the functionalization efficiency was only 67% for PSLi and 85% for PILi in the absence of LiCl. The polymer products were characterized by size exclusion chromatography, thin‐layer chromatography, and amine end‐group titration. The pure amine‐functionalized polymers were isolated by silica gel column chromatography. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 145–151, 2000  相似文献

Functionalizations of poly(styryl)lithium (PSLi), poly(butadienyl)lithium (PBDLi), and poly(isoprenyl)lithium (PILi) with formaldehyde were investigated in benzene solutions at room temperature. Dimer and unfunctionalized products, in addition to the expected products, were found in the PSLi functionalization with formaldehyde. The byproducts were analyzed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS) and showed evidence for Cannizzaro reactions and electron‐transfer reactions. A molecular weight dependence of the dimer formation was found for PSLi functionalizations for number‐average molecular weights of less than 20,000; the dimer formation decreased as the molecular weight increased. Changing the reaction conditions did not eliminate dimer formation in the PSLi functionalization. The reactions of PBDLi and PILi with formaldehyde effected quantitative functionalizations, as determined by SEC, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MALDI‐TOF MS, quantitative column chromatography, and end‐group titration. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined ABCD 4‐Miktoarm star‐shaped quarterpolymers of [poly(styrene)‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐poly(isoprene)] [star(PS‐PtBA‐PEO‐PI)] were successfully synthesized by the combination of the “click” chemistry and multiple polymerization mechanism. First, the poly(styryl)lithium (PS?Li+) and the poly(isoprene)lithium (PI?Li+) were capped by ethoxyethyl glycidyl ether (EEGE) to form the PS and PI with both an active ω‐hydroxyl group and an ω′‐ethoxyethyl‐protected hydroxyl group, respectively. After these two hydroxyl groups were selectively modified to propargyl and 2‐bromoisobutyryl group for PS, the resulted PS was used as macroinitiator for ATRP of tBA monomer and the diblock copolymer PS‐b‐PtBA with a propargyl group at the junction point was achieved. Then, using the functionalized PI as macroinitiator for ROP of EO monomer and bromoethane as blocking agent, the diblock copolymer PI‐b‐PEO with a protected hydroxyl group at the conjunction point was synthesized. After the hydrolysis, the recovered hydroxyl group of PI‐b‐PEO was modified to bromoacetyl and then azide group successively. Finally, the “click” chemistry between them was proceeded smoothly. The obtained star‐shaped quarterpolymers and intermediates were characterized by 1H NMR, FT‐IR, and SEC in detail. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new and very efficient route for the synthesis of aliphatic primary amine terminated polystyrene (PS) is reported. In contrast to most known methods, only traditional commercially available reagents are used. PS is synthesized by anionic polymerization with a lithium counter ion and the living chains are end‐capped by a hydroxyl group upon addition of ethylene oxide followed by protonation. The ω‐hydroxyl end group is tosylated and the tosylate is then reacted with sodium azide. The azide terminal group is finally reduced into primary amine. The different steps of functionalization have been fully characterized by SEC, ToF‐SIMS, FTIR, and 1H NMR. The amine content (= 98%) has been determined by acid‐base titration with perchloric acid. It clearly shows the efficiency of the synthetic method reported in this article although it is a multistep method. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new azide‐functionalized xanthate, S‐(4‐azidomethylbenzyl) O‐(2‐methoxyethyl) xanthate, was synthesized and used to mediate the reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of vinyl acetate. The polymerization was demonstrated to be controlled, and well‐defined PVAc with α‐azide, ω‐xanthate groups were obtained, the xanthate groups of which were further removed by radical‐induced reduction with lauroyl peroxide in the presence of excess 2‐propanol. Hydrolysis of α‐azide‐terminated PVAc (N3‐PVAc) led to the formation of the corresponding α‐azide‐terminated PVA (N3‐PVA). Finally, end‐modification of N3‐PVA by click chemistry with alkyne‐end‐capped poly(caprolactone) (A‐PCL), alkynyl‐mannose, and alkynyl‐pyrene was carried out to obtain a new block copolymer PCL‐b‐PVA, and two PVA with mannose or pyrene as the end functional groups. The polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and FTIR. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 4494–4504, 2009  相似文献

This contribution presents the synthesis of helical alkyne‐terminated polymers using a functionalized Nickel complex to initiate the polymerization of menthylphenyl isocyanides. The resulting polymers display low dispersities and controlled molecular weights. Copper‐catalyzed azide/alkyne cycloadditions (CuAAC) are performed to attach various azide‐containing compounds to the polymer termini. After azido‐phosphonate moiety attachment the polymer displays a signal at 25.4 ppm in the 31P NMR spectrum demonstrating successful end‐group functionalization. End‐group functionalization of a fluorescent dye allows to determine the functionalization yield as 89% (±8). Successful ligation of an azide‐functionalized peptide sequence (MKLA = 1547 g/mol) increases the Mn from 5100 for the parent polymer to 6700 for the bioconjugate as visualized by GPC chromatography. Analysis by CD spectroscopy confirms that the helical conformation of the poly(isocyanide) block in the peptide–polymer conjugate is maintained after postpolymerization modification. These results demonstrate an easy, generalizable, and versatile strategy toward mono‐telechelic helical polymers. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of polyisobutylene (PIB) carrying one primary hydroxyl head group and a tertiary chloride end group, [Ph? C(CH3)(CH2OH)–PIB–CH2? C(CH3)2Cl] prepared with direct functionalization via initiation. The polymerization of isobutylene was initiated with the α‐methylstyrene epoxide/titanium tetrachloride system. Living conditions were obtained from ?75 to ?50 °C (198–223 K). Low molecular weight samples (number‐average molecular weight ~ 4000 g/mol) were prepared under suitable conditions and characterized by Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The presence of primary hydroxyl head groups in PIB was verified by both methods. Quantitative Fourier transform infrared with 2‐phenyl‐1‐propanol calibration and 1H NMR performed on both the hydroxyl‐functionalized PIB and its reaction product with trimethylchlorosilane showed that each polymer chain carried one primary hydroxyl head group. The synthetic methodology presented here is an effective and simple route for the direct functionalization of PIB. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ring‐opening polymerizations (ROPs) of εcaprolactone (ε‐CL) and L ‐lactide (LLA) have been studied using the organocatalysts of diphenyl phosphate (DPP) and 4‐dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP). The “dual activation” property of DPP and the “bifunctional activation” property of DPP/DMAP were confirmed by the NMR measurement for ε‐CL and its chain‐end model of poly(ε‐caprolactone) and for LLA and its chain‐end model of poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA), respectively. The molar ratio of DPP/DMAP was optimized as 1/2 for the ROP of LLA leading to the well‐defined PLLA, such as the molecular weight determined from 1H NMR measurement of 19,200 g mol?1 and the narrow polydispersity of 1.10. Additionally, functional initiators were utilized for producing the end‐functionalized PLLAs. The DPP‐catalyzed ROPs of ε‐CL and its analogue cyclic monomers and then the DPP/DMAP‐catalyzed ROP of LLA produced block copolymers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. N,N′‐disubstituted hyperbranched polyureas with methyl, benzyl, and allyl substitutents were synthesized starting from AB2 monomers based on 3,5‐diamino benzoic acid. Carbonyl azide approach, which generates isocyanate group in situ on thermal decomposition, was used for the protection of isocyanate functional groups. The N‐substituted hyperbranched polymers can be considered as the new class of internally functionalized hyperbranched polyureas wherein the substituent can function either as receptor or as a chemical entity for selective transformations as a tool to tailor the properties. The chain‐ends were also modified by attaching long chain aliphatic groups to fully realize the interior functionalization. This approach opens up a possible synthetic route wherein different functional substituents can be used to generate a library of internally functionalized hyperbranched polymers. All the hyperbranched polyureas were characterized by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, DSC, TGA, and size exclusion chromatography. Degree of branching in these N,N′‐disubstituted hyperbranched polyureas, as calculated by 1H‐NMR spectroscopy using model compounds, was found to be lower than the unsubstituted hyperbranched polyurea and is attributed to the lower reactivity of N‐substituted amines compared to that of unsubstituted amines. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic block copolymers containing β‐lactam groups on the polyisoprene block were synthesized from poly(isoprene‐b‐ethylene oxide) (IEO) diblock copolymer precursors, prepared by anionic polymerization. β‐Lactam functionalization was achieved via reaction of the polyisoprene (PI) block with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate and subsequent reduction. The resulting block copolymers were molecularly characterized by SEC, FTIR, and NMR spectroscopies and DSC. Functionalization was found to proceed in high yields, altering the solubility properties of the PI block and those of the functionalized diblocks. Hydrogen bond formation is assumed to be responsible for the decreased crystallinity of the poly(ethylene oxide) block (PEO) in the bulk state as indicated by DSC measurements. The self‐assembly behavior of the β‐lactam functionalized poly(isoprene‐b‐ethylene oxide) copolymers (LIEO) in aqueous solutions was studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS), static light scattering (SLS), fluorescence spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Nearly spherical loose aggregates were formed by the LIEO block copolymers, having lower aggregation numbers and higher cmc values compared to the IEO precursors, as a result of the increased polarity of the β‐lactam rings incorporated in the PI blocks. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have been functionalized with poly(γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) by ring‐opening polymerizations of γ‐benzyl‐L ‐glutamic acid‐based N‐carboxylanhydrides (NCA‐BLG) using amino‐functionalized SWCNTs (SWCNT‐NH2) as initiators. The SWCNT functionalization has been verified by FTIR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The FTIR study reveals that surface‐attached PBLGs adopt random‐coil conformations in contrast to the physically absorbed or bulk PBLGs, which exhibit α‐helical conformations. Raman spectroscopic analysis reveals a significant alteration of the electronic structure of SWCNTs as a result of PBLG functionalization. The PBLG‐functionalized SWCNTs (SWCNT‐PBLG) exhibit enhanced solubility in DMF. Stable DMF solutions of SWCNT‐PBLG/PBLG with a maximum SWCNTs concentration of 259 mg L?1 can be readily obtained. SWCNT‐PBLG/PBLG solid composites have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, wide/small‐angle X‐ray scattering (W/SAXS), scanning electron microscopy, and polarized optical microscopy for their thermal or morphological properties. Microfibers containing SWCNT‐PBLG and PBLG can also be prepared via electrospinning. WAXS characterization reveals that SWCNTs are evenly distributed among PBLG rods in solution and in the solid state where PBLGs form a short‐range nematic phase interspersed with amorphous domains. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A homologous series of guanosine end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol)s have been prepared, and their assembly–disassembly behavior in the presence of potassium cations has been systematically examined upon changing the concentration, temperature, nature of solvent, amount of cation, and type of anion using 1H‐NMR, UV/Vis, and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The results revealed a strong dependence of the assembly formation, and the stability of the formed supramolecular ensemble on the chain‐length of the assembly precursor. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Covalent functionalization of alkyne‐decorated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with a well‐defined, azide‐derivatized, thermoresponsive diblock copolymer, poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PDMA‐PNIPAM) was accomplished by the Cu(I)‐catalyzed [3 + 2] Huisgen cycloaddition. It was found that this reaction could simultaneously increase the molecular size and bonding density of grafted polymers when PDMA‐PNIPAM micelles were employed in the coupling system. On the other hand, attachment of molecularly dissolved unimers of high‐molecular weight onto the nanotube resulted in low‐graft density. The block copolymer bearing azide groups at the PDMA end was prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation transfer polymerization, which formed micelles with a diameter of ~40 nm at temperatures above its critical micelle temperature. Scanning electron microscopy was utilized to demonstrate that the coupling reaction was successfully carried out between copolymer micelles and alkyne‐bearing MWNTs. FTIR spectroscopy was utilized to follow the introduction and consumption of alkyne groups on the MWNTs. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated that the functionalized MWNTs consisted of about 45% polymer. Transmission electron microscopy was utilized to image polymer‐functionalized MWNTs, showing relatively uniform polymer coatings present on the surface of nanotubes. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Five different polymers, poly[methyl methacrylate] (PMMA), poly[lauryl methacrylate] (PLMA), poly[diethylene glycol methacrylate] (PDEGMA), poly[N‐isopropylacrylamide] (PNIPA), and poly[styrene] (PS) prepared by the RAFT process and thus terminated with dithioesters were aminolyzed in the presence of S‐3‐butynyl methane thiosulfonate (MTS), which was synthesized in two steps. Analysis of the polymers by 2D NMR, UV–vis absorbance, and gel permeation chromatography revealed them to quantitatively carry acetylene end groups connected with disulfide bridges, indicating that functional MTS reagents can be employed for end group functionalization of RAFT polymers. This versatile method is of advantage compared with conjugations with functional maleimides, where isolation of terminal thiols is often required but inexpedient for poly[(meth)acrylates] because their terminal thiols may undergo backbiting and thus avoid conjugation. The acetylene‐terminated polymers were bound to an azide functionalized glass surface in a Cu(I) catalyzed cycloaddition. The modified surfaces exhibited water contact angles corresponding to the polarity of the attached polymers. In the case of the stimulus responsive polymers PNIPA and PDEGMA, the surfaces showed temperature‐dependent contact angles. The disulfide bond connecting the polymers to the surface could be selectively cleaved and resulted in all surfaces having the same contact angle, independent of the nature of the polymer prior attached to the surface. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The block copolymerization of tert‐butyl methacrylate (tBMA) with a difunctionalized polystyrene (PS) macroinitiator was investigated. The polymerizations were performed under UV light irradiation using PS bearing α‐ and ω‐functionalized end groups containing diethyldithiocarbamyl groups as a macroiniferter. Kinetic studies indicate the molecular weights of triblock copolymers increased linearly with the conversion. Block copolymers with different lengths of PtBMA segments were easily prepared by varying the ratio of tBMA and PS macroiniferter or by controlling the monomer conversion. The formations of block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatographic, 1H NMR, and DSC analyses. PtBMA segments of the triblock copolymer were subsequently hydrolyzed quantitatively to poly(methacrylic acid) segments using concentrated HCl as a catalyst in a refluxing solution of dioxane, and then an amphiphilic ABA triblock copolymer was produced. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Triblock copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)‐poly(alkylene phosphate)‐poly(ethylene glycol) was prepared by first reacting hexamethylene glycol with dimethyl‐H‐phosphonate at conditions of transesterification and then replacing the CH3OP(O)(H)O‐… end‐groups by monomethyl ether of poly(ethylene glycol). The course of reaction was studied by 31P NMR indicating complete conversion. After oxidation the poly(alkylene H‐phosphonate was converted into the final triblock polyphosphate. This triblock copolymer was used as a modifier of CaCO3 crystallization. Unusual semi open empty spheres resulted, composed of small crystallites of the size (diameter) equal to 40–90 nm. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New, water soluble poly(glycidol) (PGl) macroinitiators for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were synthesized. This new class of macroinitiators were prepared in a three‐step process. First, series of well‐defined ω‐hydroxyl functional poly(glycidol acetal)s with different molecular weights was synthesized via anionic polymerization followed by quantitative termination of anionically growing active sites. End capping was achieved by treatment of living chain ends with water. The living nature of the system and termination reaction is discussed. In the second stage, monofunctional poly(glycidol acetal)s were functionalized by esterification with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Finally, selective deprotection (hydrolysis) of acetal protective groups was performed. As simultaneous partial cleavage of ester bond of attached ATRP moieties was unavoidable, the final functionality of macroinitiator calculated from 1H NMR varied in the range 85–95%. The obtained (2‐chloropropionyl) poly(glycidol) macroinitiator with DP = 55 and 90% functionality was successfully used in ATRP polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) at room temperature in the DMF/water mixture. Linear block copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled composition were obtained and characterized with 1H NMR and SEC‐MALLS measurements. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Treatment of 5,5′‐dilithio‐2,2′‐dithiophene with (dimethylamino)methylsily bis(triflate)‐ or α, ω‐bis(triflate)‐substituted trisilanes gave poly[5,5′‐(silylene)‐2,2′‐dithienylene]s in high yields. The amino–silyl bond was cleaved selectively by triflic acid, leading to triflate‐substituted derivatives. Conversion of these compounds with nucleophiles gave other functionalized polymers. Platinum‐catalyzed hydrosilylation reactions between silicon–vinyl and silicon–hydrogen derivatives result in polymer networks which may serve as interesting preceramic materials. The structures of the polymers were proven by NMR spectroscopy (29Si, 13C, 1H). Results of thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), UV spectrometry and conductivity measurements are given.
