In this paper, we study the global well‐posedness and scattering theory of the solution to the Cauchy problem of a generalized fourth‐order wave equation where if d ?4, and if d ?5. The main strategy we use in this paper is concentration‐compactness argument, which was first introduced by Kenig and Merle to handle the scattering problem vector so as to control the momentum. In this paper, we consider local well‐posedness and ill‐posedness questions for the fractal Burgers equation. First, we obtain the well‐posedness result in the critical Sobolev space. We also present an unconditional uniqueness result. Second, we show the ill‐posedness from the point of view of the Picard iterations in the supercritical space. In this paper we consider a new rod equation derived recently by Dai [Acta Mech. 127 No. 1–4, 193–207 (1998)] for a compressible hyperelastic material. We establish local well‐posedness for regular initial data and explore various sufficient conditions of the initial data which guarantee the blow‐up in finite time both for periodic and non‐periodic case. In this paper, we investigate the Cauchy problem of the nonlinear wave equation , where V(u) = μ|·|?γ ? |u|2, , 0 < γ < min(4, n) and n ≥ 3. We prove small data global well‐posedness for the radial data and for the general data with angular regularity. We apply the hp ‐version of the boundary element method (BEM) for the numerical solution of the electric field integral equation (EFIE) on a Lipschitz polyhedral surface Γ. The underlying meshes are supposed to be quasi‐uniform triangulations of Γ, and the approximations are based on either Raviart‐Thomas or Brezzi‐Douglas‐Marini families of surface elements. Nonsmoothness of Γ leads to singularities in the solution of the EFIE, severely affecting convergence rates of the BEM. However, the singular behavior of the solution can be explicitly specified using a finite set of functions (vertex‐, edge‐, and vertex‐edge singularities), which are the products of power functions and poly‐logarithmic terms. In this article, we use this fact to perform an a priori error analysis of the hp ‐BEM on quasi‐uniform meshes. We prove precise error estimates in terms of the polynomial degree p, the mesh size h, and the singularity exponents. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We study the initial boundary value problem of a class of fourth order semilinear parabolic equations. Global existence and nonexistence of solutions with initial data in the potential well are derived. Moreover, by using the iteration technique for regularity estimates, we obtain that for any k ≥ 0, the semilinear parabolic possesses a global attractor in Hk(Ω), which attracts any bounded subsets of Hk(Ω) in the Hk‐norm. There is an increasing reliance on mathematical modelling to assist in the design of piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers since this provides a cost‐effective and quick way to arrive at a first prototype. Given a desired operating envelope for the sensor, the inverse problem of obtaining the associated design parameters within the model can be considered. It is therefore of practical interest to examine the well‐posedness of such models. There is a need to extend the use of such sensors into high‐temperature environments, and so this paper shows, for a broad class of models, the well‐posedness of the magneto‐electro‐thermo‐elastic problem. In the present paper, we consider nonclassical problems for multidimensional elliptic equations. A finite difference method for solving these nonlocal boundary value problems is presented. Stability, almost coercive stability and coercive stability for the solutions of first and second orders of approximation are obtained. The theoretical statements for the solutions of these difference schemes are supported by numerical examples for the two‐dimensional elliptic equations. In this paper, we consider a mathematical model describing the two‐phase interaction between water and mud in a water canal when the width of the canal is small compared with its depth. The mud is treated as a non‐Newtonian fluid, and the interface between the mud and fluid is allowed to move under the influence of gravity and surface tension. We reduce the mathematical formulation, for small boundary and initial data, to a fully nonlocal and nonlinear problem and prove its local well‐posedness by using abstract parabolic theory. For a given observation angle θ, let FD(θ, α) k be the far-field pattern of the electric field corresponding to an incident wave with direction angle α polarized perpendicular to the axis and let FN(θ; α) k be the far-field pattern of the magnetic field corresponding to an incident wave with direction angle α polarized parallel to the z axis. Let {αn}n=1 be a distinct set of angles in [ ? π, π] and μ a complex number. Then, necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the set {(1 ? μ)FD(θ;αn) + μFN(θ;αn)}n = 1 to be complete in L2[ ? π, π]. Applications, together with numerical examples, are given to the inverse scattering problem of determining the shape of the cylinder from a knowledge of the far-field data.  相似文献

Unilateral problems related to the wave model subject to degenerate and localized nonlinear damping on a compact Riemannian manifold are considered. Our results are new and concern two main issues: (a) to prove the global well‐posedness of the variational problem; (b) to establish that the corresponding energy functional is not (uniformly) stable to equilibrium in general, namely, the energy does not converge to zero on the trajectory of every solution, even if a full linear damping is taken in place.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on Zoll manifolds with odd order nonlinearities. We will obtain the local well‐poesdness in the critical space . This extends the recent results in the literature to the Zoll manifolds of dimension d≥2 with general odd order nonlinearities and also partially improves the previous results in the subcritical spaces of Yang to the critical cases. This paper examines the initial‐value problem for the nonhomogeneous incompressible nematic liquid crystals system with vacuum. This paper establishes two main results. The first result is involved with the global strong solutions to the 2D liquid crystals system in a bounded smooth domain. Our second result is concerned with the small data global existence result about the 3D system in the whole space. In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the Keller–Segel system with fractional diffusion generalizing the Keller–Segel model of chemotaxis for the initial data (u0,v0) in critical Fourier‐Herz spaces with q ∈ [2, ], where 1 < α ≤ 2. Making use of some estimates of the linear dissipative equation in the frame of mixed time‐space spaces, the Chemin ‘mono‐norm method’, the Fourier localization technique and the Littlewood–Paley theory, we get a local well‐posedness result and a global well‐posedness result with a small initial data. In this paper,we prove uniqueness in determining a perfectly conducting ball in the inverse electromagnetic scattering problem by a finite number of electric far field patterns with a single incident direction and polarization. It is emphasized that we use only one electric far field pattern datum to uniquely determine the radius of a ball if it is centered at the origin with radius . Furthermore, if its center was not given as a prior information, three more measurement data must be added to uniquely determine its center. The main tool used here is some new results on zeros of spherical Bessel and spherical Neumann functions.  相似文献
