The miscibility and thermal properties of poly(N‐phenyl‐2‐hydroxytrimethylene amine)/poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PHA/PVP) blends were examined by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), high‐resolution solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that PHA is miscible with PVP, as shown by the existence of a single composition‐dependent glass transition temperature (Tg) in the whole composition range. The DSC results, together with the 13C crosspolarization (CP)/magic angle spinning (MAS)/high‐power dipolar decoupling (DD) spectra of the blends, revealed that there exist rather strong intermolecular interactions between PHA and PVP. The increase in hydrogen bonding and in Tg of the blends was found to broaden the line width of CH—OH carbon resonance of PHA. The measurement of the relaxation time showed that the PHA/PVP blends are homogeneous at least on the scale of 1–2 nm. The proton spin‐lattice relaxation in both the laboratory frame and the rotating frame were studied as a function of the blend composition, and it was found that blending did not appreciably affect the spectral densities of motion (sub‐Tg relaxation) in the mid‐MHz and mid‐KHz frequency ranges. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that PHA has rather good thermal stability, and the thermal stability of the blend can be further improved with increasing PVP content. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. To prepare thermally stable and high‐performance polymeric films, new solvent‐soluble aromatic polyamides with a carbamoyl pendant group, namely poly(4,4′‐diamino‐3′‐carbamoylbenzanilide terephthalamide) (p‐PDCBTA) and poly(4,4′‐diamino‐3′‐carbamoylbenzanilide isophthalamide) (m‐PDCBTA), were synthesized. The polymers were cyclized at around 200 to 350 °C to form quinazolone and benzoxazinone units along the polymer backbone. The decomposition onset temperatures of the cyclized m‐ and p‐PDCBTAs were 457 and 524 °C, respectively, lower than that of poly(p‐phenylene terephthalamide) (566 °C). For the p‐PDCBTA film drawn by 40% and heat‐treated, the tensile strength and Young's modulus were 421 MPa and 16.4 GPa, respectively. The film cyclized at 350 °C showed a storage modulus (E′) of 1 × 1011 dyne/cm2 (10 GPa) over the temperature range of room temperature to 400 °C. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A total of 13 of the 16 possible methylol derivatives of 2,4′‐ and 4,4′‐dihydroxydiphenylmethane have been synthesized, isolated, and identified. These compounds are found as intermediates in the cure process of resol phenol–formaldehyde (PF) resins. Analysis of the 13C NMR spectra (in acetone‐d6) of these compounds provided a way to evaluate the seven methylolphenol ring types (methylol derivatives of 2‐hydroxyphenyl and 4‐hydroxyphenyl rings) found in typical resol PF resins using the ipso carbon region from 150 to 160 ppm. A simple diagnostic test was developed using the chemical shift values of the methylol methylene carbon atoms to identify the presence of intermediates containing either a 2‐hydroxyphenyl or a 4‐hydroxyphenyl ring. Using these data it is now possible to analyze the major components in extracted prepreg PF resins. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Recent advances in solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, such as magic angle spinning and high‐power decoupling, have dramatically increased the sensitivity and resolution of NMR. However, these NMR techniques generate extra heat, causing a temperature difference between the sample in the rotor and the variable temperature gas. This extra heating is a particularly crucial problem for hydrated lipid membrane samples. Thus, to develop an NMR thermometer that is suitable for hydrated lipid samples, thulium‐1,4,7,10‐tetraazacyclododecane‐1,4,7,10‐tetraacetate (TmDOTA) was synthesized and labeled with 13C (i.e., 13C‐TmDOTA) to increase the NMR sensitivity. The complex was mixed with a hydrated lipid membrane, and the system was subjected to solid‐state NMR and differential scanning calorimetric analyses. The physical properties of the lipid bilayer and the quality of the NMR spectra of the membrane were negligibly affected by the presence of 13C‐TmDOTA, and the 13C chemical shift of the complex exhibited a large‐temperature dependence. The results demonstrated that 13C‐TmDOTA could be successfully used as a thermometer to accurately monitor temperature changes induced by 1H decoupling pulses and/or by magic angle spinning and the temperature distribution of the sample inside the rotor. Thus, 13C‐TmDOTA was shown to be a versatile thermometer for hydrated lipid assemblies. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A series of poly(arylene ether)s were successfully prepared by aromatic, nucleophilic substitution reactions with various perfluoroalkyl‐activated bisfluoromonomers with 4,4′‐bishydroxybiphenyl and 4,4′‐bishydroxyterphenyl. 4,4′‐Bishydroxyterphenyl was synthesized through the Grignard coupling reaction of magnesium salt of 4‐bromoanisole with dibromobenzene followed by demethylation with pyridine–hydrochloride. The products obtained by the displacement of fluorine atoms exhibited good inherent viscosity, up to 0.77 dL/g, and number‐average molecular weights up to 69,300. These poly(arylene ether)s showed very good thermal stability, up to 548 °C for 5% weight loss according to thermogravimetric analysis under synthetic air, and high glass‐transition temperatures, up to 259 °C according to differential scanning calorimetry, depending on the exact repeat unit structure. These polymers were soluble in a wide range of organic solvents, such as N‐methylpyrrolidone, dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, toluene, and CHCl3, and were insoluble in dimethyl sulfoxide and acetone. Thin films of these poly(arylene ether)s showed good transparency and exhibited tensile strengths up to 132 MPa, moduli up to 3.34 GPa, and elongations at break up to 84%, depending on their exact repeating unit structures. These values are comparable to those of high‐performance thermoplastic materials such as poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) and Ultem poly(ether imide) (PEI). These poly(arylene ether)s exhibited low dielectric constants. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 55–69, 2002  相似文献

The specific interaction between poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB)] and 4,4′‐thiodiphenol (TDP) and between poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) and TDP was investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Interassociated hydrogen bonds were found between the polyester chains and the TDP molecules in the binary blends. The fractions of associated carbonyl groups, Fb 's, in the blends first increased and then decreased as the TDP content increased. The thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of P(3HB)–TDP and PHBV–TDP blends were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, respectively. Thermal analysis revealed that the P(3HB)–TDP blends possessed eutectic phase behavior. Furthermore, it was found that the thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of P(3HB) and PHBV were greatly modified through blending with TDP. Environmental degradability in river water was evaluated by a biochemical oxygen demand tester, and it was clarified that TDP lowered the degradation rate of P(3HB). The results suggest that TDP is effective in modifying the physical properties as well as the biodegradability of polyesters. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A biodegradable diblock copolymer of poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA) was synthesized and characterized. The inclusion compound (IC) of this copolymer with α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) was formed and characterized. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction showed that in the IC crystals α‐CDs were packed in the channel mode, which isolated and restricted the individual guest copolymer chains to highly extended conformation. Solid‐state 13C NMR techniques were used to investigate the morphology and dynamics of both the bulk and α‐CD‐IC isolated PCL‐b‐PLLA chains. The conformation of the PCL blocks isolated within the α‐CD cavities was similar to the crystalline conformation of PCL blocks in the bulk copolymer. Spin–lattice relaxation time (T1C) measurements revealed a dramatic difference in the mobilities of the semicrystalline bulk copolymer chains and those isolated in the α‐CD‐IC channels. Carbon‐observed proton spin–lattice relaxation in the rotating frame measurements (TH) showed that the bulk copolymer was phase‐separated, while, in the IC, exchange of proton magnetization through spin‐diffusion between the isolated guest polymer chains and the host α‐CD was not complete. The two‐dimensional solid‐state heteronuclear correlation (HetCor) method was also employed to monitor proton communication in these samples. Intrablock exchange of proton magnetization was observed in both the bulk semicrystalline and IC copolymer samples at short mixing times; however, even at the longest mixing time, interblock proton communication was not observed in either sample. In spite of the physical closeness between the isolated included guest chains and the host α‐CD molecules, efficient proton spin diffusion was not observed between them in the IC. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(4,4′‐biphenylenealkenylene)s and copolymers were prepared by the acyclic diene metathesis (ADMET) polymerization of 4,4′‐bis(alkenylene)1,1′‐biphenyls. Unsaturated polymers thus prepared were then hydrogenated to produce the corresponding saturated polymers. All the polymers were found to be thermotropic and to form solidlike smectic phases in melt. Their liquid crystallinity (LC) was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X‐ray diffractometry, and polarizing microscopy. We observed that one of the phenylene units of the biphenyl structure could selectively be hydrogenated at an elevated temperature. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4‐(Phenylethynyl‐α,β‐13C)phthalic anhydride (PEPA) and 13C‐labeled phenylethynyl‐terminated imide (PETI) oligomers were synthesized, and solid‐state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used to determine the structure of cured oligomers. Solid‐state 13C NMR spectra were collected before and after thermal curing. Using solid‐state 13C NMR difference spectroscopy, several cure products were identified. The observed 13C NMR resonances were assigned to four different classes of cure products: aromatics, products from backbone addition (substituted stilbenes and tetraphenylethanes), polyenes, and cyclobutadiene cyclodimers. The effects of postcuring and oligomer chain length on the structure of the cured resins were examined. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 3486–3497, 2000  相似文献

This article presents the effects of strong ionizing radiations on the physico‐chemical modifications of aliphatic or aromatic amine‐cured epoxy resins based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA). Such epoxy resins have a considerable number of applications in the nuclear industrial field and are known to be very stable under moderate irradiation conditions. Using extensively high resolution solid‐state 13C‐NMR spectroscopy we show that the aliphatic amine‐cured resin (DGEBA‐TETA) appears much more sensitive to gamma rays than the aromatic amine‐cured one (DGEBA‐DDM). On the one hand, qualitative analyses of the high resolution solid‐state 13C‐NMR spectra of both epoxy resins, irradiated under similar conditions (8.5 MGy), reveal almost no change in the aromatic amine‐cured resin whereas new resonances are observed for the aliphatic amine‐cured resin. These new peaks were interpreted as the formation of new functional groups such as amides, acids and/or esters and to alkene groups probably formed in the aliphatic amine skeleton. On the other hand, molecular dynamics of these polymers are investigated by measuring the relaxation times, TCH, T1ρH and T1C , before and after irradiation. The study of relaxation data shows the formation, under irradiation, of a more rigid network, especially for the aliphatic amine‐cured system and confirms that aromatic amine‐cured resin [DGEBA‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenylmethane(DDM)] is much less affected by ionizing radiations than the aliphatic amine‐cured resin [DGEBA‐triethylenetetramine(TETA)]. Moreover, it has been shown that the molecular modifications generated by irradiation on the powder of the aliphatic‐amine‐cured resin appear to be homogeneously distributed inside the polymers as no phase separations can be deduced from the above analyses. A series of thermotropic polyesters, derived from 4,4′‐biphenol (BP), 3‐phenyl‐4,4′‐biphenol (MPBP), and 3,3′‐bis(phenyl)‐4,4′‐biphenol (DPBP), 4,4′‐oxybisbenzoic acid (4,4′‐OBBA), and other aromatic dicarboxylic acids as comonomers, were prepared by melt polycondensation and were characterized for their thermotropic liquid‐crystalline (LC) properties with a variety of experimental techniques. The homopolymer of BP with 4,4′‐OBBA and its copolymers with either 50 mol % terephthalic acid or 2,6‐naphthalenedicarboxylic acid had relatively high values of the crystal‐to‐nematic transition (448–460 °C), above which each of them formed a nematic LC phase. In contrast, the homopolymers of MPBP and DPBP had low fusion temperatures and low isotropization temperatures and formed nematic melts above the fusion temperatures. Each of these two polymers also exhibited two glass‐transition temperatures, which were associated with vitrified noncrystalline (amorphous) regions and vitrified LC domains, as obtained directly from melt polycondensation. As expected, they had higher glass‐transition temperatures (176–211 °C) than other LC polyesters and had excellent thermal stability (516–567 °C). The fluorescence properties of the homopolymer of DPBP with 4,4′‐OBBA, which was soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform and tetrahydrofuran, were also included in this study. For example, it had an absorption spectrum (λmax = 259 and 292 nm), an excitation spectrum (λex = 258 and 292 nm with monitoring at 350 nm), and an emission spectrum (λem = 378 nm with excitation at 330 nm) in chloroform. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel cadmium(II) coordination polymer, poly[[[bis(4,4′‐bipyridine)cadmium(II)]‐μ3‐4,4′‐dicarboxybiphenyl‐3,3′‐dicarboxylato] 0.35‐hydrate], {[Cd(C16H8O8)(C10H8N2)2]·0.35H2O}n, was obtained by reaction of Cd(CH3COO)2·3H2O, 4,4′‐bipyridine (4,4′‐bpy) and biphenyl‐3,3′,4,4′‐tetracarboxylic acid (H4L) under hydrothermal conditions. Each CdII atom lies at the centre of a distorted octahedron, coordinated by four O atoms from three H2L2− ligands and N atoms from two monodentate 4,4′‐bpy ligands. Each H2L2− ligand coordinates to three CdII atoms through two carboxylate groups, one acting as a bridging bidentate ligand and the other in a chelating bidentate fashion. Two Cd atoms, two H2L2− anions and four 4,4′‐bpy ligands form a ring dimer node, which links into an extended broad zonal one‐dimensional chain along the c axis.  相似文献

In a new two‐dimensional coordination polymer, [Pb(C14H8O5)(H2O)]n, the asymmetric unit consists of a PbII cation, two halves of two crystallographically distinct fully deprotonated 4,4′‐oxydibenzoate ligands and one aqua ligand. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis reveals that the compound is a coordination polymer with the point symbol {53}2{54.82}. In addition, it exhibits a strong fluorescence emission in the solid state at room temperature.  相似文献

Systematic research on the synthesis, chemical oxidative polymerization of 3,4‐ethylenedithiathiophene (EDTT) in the presence of surfactants or not, and solid‐state polymerization of 2,5‐dibromo‐3,4‐ethylenedithiathiophene (DBEDTT) and 2,5‐diiodo‐3,4‐ethylenedithiathiophene (DIEDTT) under solventless and oxidant‐free conditions has been investigated. Effects of oxidants (Fe3+ salts, persulfate salts, peroxides, and Ce4+ salts), solvents (H2O, CH3CN/H2O, and CH3CN), surfactants, and so forth on polymerization reactions and properties of poly(3,4‐ethylenedithiathiophene) (PEDTT) were discussed. Characterizations indicated that FeCl3 was more suitable oxidant for oxidative polymerization of EDTT, while CH3CN was a better solvent to form PEDTT powders with higher yields and electrical conductivities. Dispersing these powders in aqueous polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSH) solution showed better stability and film‐forming property than sodium dodecylsulfate and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate. Oxidative polymerization of EDTT in aqueous PSSH solutions formed the solution processable PEDTT dispersions with good storing stability and film‐forming performance. Solvent treatment showed indistinctive effect on electrical conductivity of free‐standing PEDTT films. As‐formed PEDTT synthesized from solid‐state polymerization showed similar electrical conductivity, poorer stability, but better thermoelectric property than oxidative polymerization. Contrastingly, PEDTT synthesized from DIEDTT showed higher electrical conductivity (0.18 S cm?1) than DBEDTT which showed better thermoelectric property with higher power factor value (6.7 × 10?9 W m?1 K?2). © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. As part of a homologous series of novel polyfluorinated bipyridyl (bpy) ligands, the title compound, C16H14F6N2O2, contains the smallest fluorinated group, viz. CF3. The molecule resides on a crystallographic inversion centre at the mid‐point of the pyridine Cipso—Cipso bond. Therefore, the bpy skeleton lies in an anti conformation to avoid repulsion between the two pyridyl N atoms. Weak intramolecular C—H...N and C—H...O interactions are observed, similar to those in related polyfluorinated bpy–metal complexes. A π–π interaction is observed between the bpy rings of adjacent molecules and this is probably a primary driving force in crystallization. Weak intermolecular C—H...N hydrogen bonding is present between one of the CF3CH2– methylene H atoms and a pyridyl N atom related by translation along the [010] direction, in addition to weak benzyl‐type C—H...F interactions to atoms of the terminal CF3 group. It is of note that the O—CH2CF3 bond is almost perpendicular to the bpy plane.  相似文献

5.5′,6,6′‐Tetrahydroxy‐3,3,3′,3′‐tetramethyl spirobisindane (TTSBI) was polycondensed with 4,4′‐difluorodiphenylsulfone (DFDPS) in DMSO with K2CO3 as catalyst and azeotopic removal of water. The feed ratio of DFDPS/TTSBI was varied from 1.0/1.0 to 2.0/1.0 at concentrations avoiding gelation. At feed ratios around 1.0/1.0 hyperbranched polymers were a minority and cyclic poly(ether sulfone)s were the predominant reaction products. With increasing feed ratio of DFDPS more and more multicyclic polymers were formed, and at a feed ratio of 1.9/1.0 perfect multicycles free of functional groups were the vast majority of the reaction product. Despite variation of the reaction conditions quantitative conversion was not achieved. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 5597–5605, 2007  相似文献

Plant cell wall (CW) polysaccharides are responsible for the mechanical strength and growth of plant cells; however, the high‐resolution structure and dynamics of the CW polysaccharides are still poorly understood because of the insoluble nature of these molecules. Here, we use 2D and 3D magic‐angle‐spinning (MAS) solid‐state NMR (SSNMR) to investigate the structural role of pectins in the plant CW. Intact and partially depectinated primary CWs of Arabidopsis thaliana were uniformly labeled with 13C and their NMR spectra were compared. Recent 13C resonance assignment of the major polysaccharides in Arabidopsis thaliana CWs allowed us to determine the effects of depectination on the intermolecular packing and dynamics of the remaining wall polysaccharides. 2D and 3D correlation spectra show the suppression of pectin signals, confirming partial pectin removal by chelating agents and sodium carbonate. Importantly, higher cross peaks are observed in 2D and 3D 13C spectra of the depectinated CW, suggesting higher rigidity and denser packing of the remaining wall polysaccharides compared with the intact CW. 13C spin–lattice relaxation times and 1H rotating‐frame spin–lattice relaxation times indicate that the polysaccharides are more rigid on both the nanosecond and microsecond timescales in the depectinated CW. Taken together, these results indicate that pectic polysaccharides are highly dynamic and endow the polysaccharide network of the primary CW with mobility and flexibility, which may be important for pectin functions. This study demonstrates the capability of multidimensional SSNMR to determine the intermolecular interactions and dynamic structures of complex plant materials under near‐native conditions. In the title compound, (C10H9N2)2[Pt(CN)6]·2C10H8N2 or [(Hbpy)+]2[Pt(CN)6]2−·2bpy, where bpy is 4,4′‐bipyridine, the Hbpy+ cations and bpy molecules form a hydrogen‐bonded two‐dimensional cationic approximately square grid parallel to the (110) plane. The [Pt(CN)6]2− dianions reside in the cavities within this grid, with the nitrile N atoms forming weak hydrogen bonds with the CH groups in the cationic lattice.  相似文献
