The ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) using lanthanide thiolate complexes [(CH3CsH4)2Sm(μ-SPh)(THF)]2 (1) and Sm(SPh)3(HMPA)3 (2) as initiators has been investigated for the first time. Both of 1 and 2 were found to be highly efficient initiators for the ROP of ε-CL. The poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) with molecular weight Mn up to 1.97 ×10^5 and relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (1.20〈MW/Mn〈 2.00) have been obtained in high yield in the temperature range of 35-65℃. According to the polymer yield, 2 showed much higher activity than 1. However, the number-average molecular weight of PCL obtained with 2 was much lower than with 1. The possible polymerization mechanism of the ε-CL polymerization has been proposed based on the results of the end group analysis of the ε-CL oligomer.  相似文献

Ring opening polymerization (ROP) of hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane (D3) and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) was promoted by acid‐treated synthetic and natural silica‐aluminates. Silica‐alumina (1:3 Si/Al molar ratio) was obtained using a simple and economic route from precipitation of aluminum sulfate solutions. The material was treated in an acidic medium to improve the content of acid sites and successfully tested as inorganic acidic catalyst for ROP of D3 or D4 cyclosiloxanes. Natural bentonite was treated and used in a similar manner. Once the ROP reaction completed, the catalyst was easily removed and it was found that the recovered synthetic silica‐alumina was active in a second ROP reaction. The effect of the concentration and type of catalyst in respect to the molecular weight and polydispersity of polydimethylsiloxanes was analyzed: increasing the amount of silica‐alumina in ROP of D4 from 0.05 to 0.1 g decreased the average molecular weight (Mn = 13–1.8 kDa) associated with an increase in the polydispersity (2.95 vs. 1.81). Analogous results were found with bentonite. These values suggest that an increase in the catalyst concentration led to a lower Mn, with a more homogeneous molecular chain dimension. This article deals that the rare earth metal complexes along with Al(i'-Bu),can catalyze the polymerization of methyl-methacrylate (MMA) into high molecular weight poly(MMA) along with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWD).A typical example was mentioned in the case of {Cp(Cl) Sm-Schiff-base(THF)} which expresses maximum (conv.% = 55.46 and Mn=354×103) efficiency along with narrow MWD (Mw/Mn<2) at 60℃.The resulting polymer was partially syndiotactic (>60%).The effect of the catalyst,temperature,catalyst/MMA molar ratio,catalyst/Al( i-Bu)3 molar ratio on the polymerization of MMA at 60℃ were also investigated.  相似文献

The titanium complexes with one ( 1a , 1b , 1c ) and two ( 2a , 2b ) dialkanolamine ligands were used as initiators in the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone. Titanocanes 1a and 1b initiated living ROP of ε‐caprolactone affording polymers whose number‐average molecular weights (Mn) increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion (Mn ≤ 30,000 g mol?1) in agreement with calculated values, and were inversely proportional to initiator concentration, while the molecular weight distribution stayed narrow throughout the polymerization (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2 up to 80% monomer conversion). 1H‐NMR and MALDI‐TOF‐MS studies of the obtained poly(ε‐caprolactone)s revealed the presence of an isopropoxy group originated from the initiator at the polymer termini, indicating that the polymerization takes place exclusively at the Ti–OiPr bond of the catalyst. The higher molecular weight polymers (Mn ≤ 70,000 g mol?1) with reasonable MWD (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.6) were synthesized by living ROP of ε‐caprolactone using spirobititanocanes ( 2a , 2b ) and titanocane 1c as initiators. The latter catalysts, according MALDI‐TOF‐MS data, afford poly(ε‐caprolactone)s with almost equal content of α,ω‐dihydroxyl‐ and α‐hydroxyl‐ω(carboxylic acid)‐terminated chains arising due to monomer insertion into “Ti–O” bond of dialkanolamine ligand and from initiation via traces of water, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Molecular Sieves (MS) were used as a recyclable support for atom transfer radical polymerization. The catalyst complex, CuBr2/ligand was supported on hydrated MS and used for the polymerization of benzyl methacrylate at room temperature in anisole. The polymerization using CuBr2/PMDETA (pentamethyl diethyltetraamine) catalyst that is physically held by the hydration of MS exhibited moderate control and produced catalyst free polymers (<0.1 ppm) with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.33). The polymerization occurred at the interface between the hydrated support and the solution containing initiator and monomer. The hydrated MS supported catalyst was recycled efficiently without a significant loss in activity. The polymerization proceeded in a “living”/controlled manner as was evident from first‐order time conversion plots. The split kinetics experiment affirmed that there was no propagation in the solution in the absence of the supported catalyst. The reaction order plot showed zero‐order dependence on the bulk initiator concentration in solution. The results of MS supported catalyst were compared to Na‐clay supported catalyst system and the improved results were attributed to high self‐diffusion coefficient and low diffusion activation energy of water on its surface. Dendritic polyarylether 2‐bromoisobutyrates of different generations (Gn‐Br, n = 1–3) as macroinitiators for the atom transfer radical copolymerization of N‐hexylmaleimide and styrene in an ionic liquid, 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, were investigated. The copolymerization carried out in the ionic liquid with CuBr/pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as a catalyst at room temperature afforded polymers with well‐defined molecular weights and low polydispersities (1.18 < Mw/Mn < 1.36, where Mw is the weight‐average molecular weight and Mn is the number‐average molecular weight), and the resultant copolymers possessed an alternating structure over a wide range of monomer feeds (f1 = 0.3–0.8). Meanwhile, the copolymerization was also conducted in anisole at 110 °C under similar conditions so that the effect of the reaction media on the polymerization could be evaluated. The monomer reactivity ratios showed that the tendency to form alternating copolymers for the two monomers was stronger in ionic liquids than in anisole. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The polymerization of alkyl isocyanates catalyzed by rare earth chloride salen complexes/triisobutyl aluminum (Ln(H2salen)2Cl3·2C2H7OH/Al(i-Bu)3) at room temperature was investigated. The influences of ligand structure, catalyst composition, polymerization temperature, polymerization time, the concentration of catalyst and monomer, and the polymerization solvent on the polymerization of isocyanates were studied. It was found that under the polymerization conditions, examined La(H2salenA)2Cl3·2C2-H7OH/Al(i-Bu)3 (H2salenA= N,N′-disalicylideneethylene diamine) is a fairly high efficient catalyst for the polymerization of n-hexyl isocyanate (n-HexNCO) to prepare high molecular weight poly(n-hexyl isocyanate) (PHNCO) with narrower molecular weight distribution at room temperature. PHNCO could be prepared with yield of 74.0%, number-average molecular weight (M n) of 40.20×104 and MWD of 1.79 under the following optimum conditions: [Al]/[La] = 30 (molar ratio), [n-HexNCO]/[La] = 100 (molar ratio), [n-HexNCO] = 3.43 mol/L polymerization at 20°C for 12 h in toluene. In the same polymerization conditions, poly (n-octyl isocyanate) (PONCO) with yield of 67.3%, and poly(n-butyl isocyanate) (PBNCO) with yield of 45.5%, could be prepared respectively. The kinetics of the polymerization of n-HexNCO was also investigated and found to be first-order with respect to both monomer and catalyst concentrations.  相似文献

The polymerization of butadiene (Bd) with Co(acac)3 in combination with methylaluminoxane (MAO) was investigated. The polymerization of Bd with Co(acac)3‐MAO catalysts proceeded to give cis‐1,4 polymers (94 – 97%) bearing high molecular weights (40 × 104) with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw's/Mn's). The molecular weight of the polymers increased linearly with the polymer yield, and the line passed through an original point. The polydispersities of the polymers kept almost constant during reaction time. This indicates that the microstructure and molecular weight of the polymers can be controlled in the polymerization of Bd with the Co(acac)3‐MAO catalyst. The effects of reaction temperature, Bd concentration, and the MAO/Co molar ratio on the cis‐1,4 microstructure and high molecular weight polymer in the polymerization of Bd with Co(acac)3‐MAO catalyst were observed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Among three cyclopentadienyl titanium complexes studied, CpTiCl2(OEt), containing a 5% excess CpTiCl3, has proven to be a very efficient catalyst for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of L ‐lactide (LLA) in toluene at 130 °C. Kinetic studies revealed that the polymerization yield (up to 100%) and the molecular weight increase linearly with time, leading to well‐defined PLLA with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.1). Based on the above results, PS‐b‐PLLA, PI‐b‐PLLA, PEO‐b‐PLLA block copolymers, and a PS‐b‐PI‐b‐PLLA triblock terpolymer were synthesized. The synthetic strategy involved: (a) the preparation of OH‐end‐functionalized homopolymers or diblock copolymers by anionic polymerization, (b) the reaction of the OH‐functionalized polymers with CpTiCl3 to give the corresponding Ti‐macrocatalyst, and (c) the ROP of LLA to afford the final block copolymers. PMMA‐g‐PLLA [PMMA: poly(methyl methacrylate)] was also synthesized by: (a) the reaction of CpTiCl3 with 2‐hydroxy ethyl methacrylate, HEMA, to give the Ti‐HEMA‐catalyst, (b) the ROP of LLA to afford a PLLA methacrylic‐macromonomer, and (c) the copolymerization (conventional and ATRP) of the macromonomer with MMA to afford the final graft copolymer. Intermediate and final products were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography, equipped with refractive index and two‐angle laser light scattering detectors. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polysiloxanes with high molecular weight (Mn > 100 000, Mw/Mn < 2.2) containing various quantity of trifluoroethylene aryl ether groups were prepared by anion ring opening polymerization (AROP) in the presence of promoters including N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) and N‐methyl pyrrolidone (NMP). The structures of monomers and polymers were characterized by FTIR and NMR. It was found that the addition of promoter could significantly increase the polymerization rate, decrease the polymerization temperature, and increase the molecular weight of the polymer. When DMF as the promoter, the optimal conditions for polymerization were as follows: The polymerization temperature is 100°C, the amount of catalyst is 2.0%, and the molar ratio of promoter to catalyst is 160:1. The optimal conditions for polymerization using NMP as the promoter were as follows: The polymerization temperature is 75°C, the amount of catalyst is 2.0%, and the molar ratio of promoter to catalyst is 70:1, which indicated that NMP is more effective on AROP than DMF. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the polymer has good heat temperature resistance. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that the introduction of NMP in bulk polymerization could improve the randomness of polymer structure, which leads to the disappearance of crystal peak and improve the low temperature resistance of polymer.  相似文献

The study on the molecular weight and its distribution of 1, 2-polybutadienes prepared with MoCl_4OR-i-Bu_2AlOR' catalyst systems has been carded out by viscosity and GPC methods. 1, 2-Polybutadienes with (?)=1.2-2.0can be obtained with these catalyst systems at 30—70℃. There is a linear relation between the (?) and the polymerization temperature. It was found by extrapolation that these catalyst systems may possibly initiate a living polymerization at the temperature near 18℃. The molecular weight of the polymers can be regulated either by polymerization temperature or by adding polar compounds such as allyl halides.  相似文献

High molecular weight polymers such as poly (α‐olefin)s play a key role as drag‐reducing agents which are commonly used in pipeline industry. Heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta catalyst system of MgCl2.nEtOH/TiCl4/donor was prepared using a spherical MgCl2 support and utilized in synthesis of poly(1‐hexene)s with a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) up to 3.5 × 103 kDa. The influence of effective parameters including Al/Ti ratio, polymerization temperature, monomer concentration, effect of alkylaluminus type on the productivity, and molecular weight of the products was evaluated. It was suggested that the reactivity of the Al‐R group and the bulkiness of the cocatalyst were correlated to the performance of the Ziegler–Natta catalyst at different polymerization time and temperatures, affecting the catalyst activity and Mv of polymers. Moreover, bulk polymerization method leads to higher viscosity average molecular weights, revealing the remarkable effect of polymerization method on the chain microstructure. Fourier transform infrared, 13C Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, and DSC thermogram of the prepared polymers confirmed the formation of poly(1‐hexene). The properties of the polymers measured by vortex test showed that these polymers could be used as a drag‐reducing agent. Drag‐reducing behaviors of the polymers exhibited a dependence on the Mv of the obtained polymers that was changed by variation in polymerization parameters. This study investigated the synthesis of the biocatalyst, magnesium 2,6‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4‐methylphenoxide (Mg(BHT)2) complex, and the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL). The complex demonstrates high catalytic activity and controllable of molecular weight for the ROP of CL in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature, even when polymerization was performed under air. Before this study, the polymerization of CL had never been performed using a magnesium catalyst under air at room temperature. Various forms of alcohols with different purposes were also used as initiators with Mg(BHT)2. The results show that the magnesium complex acts as a perfect catalyst because of its high catalytic activity and control ability without any cytotoxicity in the polymerization of CL, making it suitable for biomedical applications. In addition, nanoparticle formation, cytotoxicity, and phototoxicity of tri‐2‐hydroxyethyl ester [Ce6‐(CH2CH2OPCL)3] were also studied in this article and Ce6‐(CH2CH2OPCL)3 formed nanoparticle can act as a nanophotosensitizer for photodynamic therapy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Anionic ring-opening polymerization (ROP) behavior of trans-cyclohexene carbonate (CHC) using metal alkoxides as initiators was investigated. As a result, lithium tert-butoxide-initiated ROP of CHC with a high-monomer concentration (10 M) at low temperature (−15 to −10°C) proceeded to afford a poly(trans-cyclohexene carbonate) (PCHC) without undesired side reactions such as mainly backbiting. The suppression of side reactions enables the control of the molecular weight (Mn = 2400–6100) of PCHC with low molar-mass dispersity values (Mw/Mn = 1.16–1.22). Furthermore, by increasing the feed ratio of the monomer to the initiator, the molecular weight increases proportionally, indicating a controllable polymerization. The results of a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis, a kinetic study, and a chain extension experiment suggested a living nature of this ROP using lithium tert-butoxide.  相似文献

The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters, such as ε‐caprolactone, 1,5‐dioxepan‐2‐one, and racemic lactide using the combination of 3‐phenyl‐1‐propanol as the initiator and triflimide (HNTf2) as the catalyst at room temperature with the [monomer]0/[initiator]0 ratio of 50/1 was investigated. The polymerizations homogeneously proceeded to afford poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(1,5‐dioxepan‐2‐one) (PDXO), and polylactide (PLA) with controlled molecular weights and narrow polydispersity indices. The molecular weight determined from an 1H NMR analysis (PCL, Mn,NMR = 5380; PDXO, Mn,NMR = 5820; PLA, Mn,NMR = 6490) showed good agreement with the calculated values. The 1H NMR and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analyses strongly indicated that the obtained compounds were the desired polyesters. The kinetic measurements confirmed the controlled/living nature for the HNTf2‐catalyzed ROP of cyclic esters. A series of functional alcohols, such as propargyl alcohol, 6‐azido‐1‐hexanol, N‐(2‐hydroxyethyl)maleimide, 5‐hexen‐1‐ol, and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, successfully produced end‐functionalized polyesters. In addition, poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐polyester, poly(δ‐valerolactone)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone), and poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐polylactide were synthesized using the HNTf2‐catalyzed ROP. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was successfully carried out at room temperature (25 °C) under 60Co γ‐irradiation environment. The polymerization proceeded smoothly with high conversion (>90%) within 7 h. The polymerizations kept the features of controlled radical polymerization: first‐order kinetics, well‐predetermined number‐average molecular weights (Mn,GPC), and narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.25). 1H NMR spectroscope and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry confirmed that poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) chain was end‐capped by the initiator moieties. The Cu(II) concentration could reduce to 20 ppm level while keeping good control over molecular weights. This is the first successful example for the ATRP of MMA under 60Co γ‐irradiation at room temperature. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Phosphido‐diphosphine Group 3 metal complexes 1–4 [(o‐C6H4PR2)2P‐M(CH2SiMe3)2; R = Ph, 1 : M = Y, 2 : M = Sc; R = iPr, 3 : M = Y, 4 : M = Sc] are very efficient catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters such as ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), L ‐lactide, and δ‐valerolactone under mild polymerization conditions. In the ROP of ε‐CL, complexes 1–4 promote quantitative conversion of high amount of monomer (up to 3000 equiv) with very high turnover frequencies (TOF) (~4 × 104 molCL/molI h) showing a catalytic activity among the highest reported in the literature. The immortal and living ROP of ε‐CL and L ‐lactide is feasible by combining complexes 1–4 with 5 equiv of 2‐propanol. Polymers with controlled molecular parameters (Mn, end groups) and low polydispersities (Mw/Mn = 1.05–1.09) are formed as a result of fast alkoxide/alcohol exchange. In the ROP of δ‐valerolactone, complexes 1–4 showed the same activity observed for lactide (L ‐ and D ,L ‐lactide) producing high molecular weight polymers with narrow distribution of molar masses. Complexes 1–4 also promote the ROP of rac‐β butyrolactone affording atactic low molecular weight poly(hydroxybutyrate) bearing unsaturated end groups probably generated by elimination reactions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Herein, near‐infrared (NIR) photocontrolled iodide‐mediated reversible‐deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) of methacrylates, without an external photocatalyst, was developed using an alkyl iodide (e.g., 2‐iodo‐2‐methylpropionitrile) as the initiator at room temperature. This example is the first use of a series of special solvents containing carbonyl groups (e.g., 1,3‐dimethyl‐2‐imidazolidinone) as both solvent and catalyst for photocontrolled RDRP using long‐wavelength (λmax=730 nm) irradiation. The polymerization system comprises monomer, alkyl iodide initiator, and solvent. Well‐defined polymers were synthesized with excellent control over the molecular weights and molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn<1.21). The living features of this system were confirmed by polymerization kinetics, multiple controlled “on‐off” light switching cycles, and chain extension experiments. Importantly, the polymerizations proceeded successfully with various barriers (pork skin and A4 paper), demonstrating the advantage of high‐penetration NIR light.  相似文献

Poly(2-(3-methyl-3-phenylcyclobutyloxirane-co-?-caprolactone) [P(PCBO-co-?-CL)] was synthesized by ring opening polymerization (ROP) of 2-(3-methyl-3-phenylcyclobutyloxirane and ?-caprolactone (?-CL) using benzyl alcohol as the initiator and Sn(Oc)2 as the catalyst. To produce a macroinitiator from copolymer with hydroxyl end group was carried out reaction of acylation with choloroacetyl chloride. The molecular structures of copolymers were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-NMR spectroscopies and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). A kinetic series of methyl methacrylate (MMA) via ATRP method were studied in the presence of this macroinitiator and using CuBr/2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) as catalyst at 110°C. The kinetic study showed that the polymerization proceeded in a controlled way up to high conversions and the number-average molecular weight (Mn) increased depending on time. The thermal properties of copolymers were evaluated by TGA and DSC measurements. The temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric constant (?) and dielectric loss factor (?″) of P[(PCBO-co-?-CL)-b-PMMA] and that of doped with different concentration of EuCl3 were investigated between the frequency of 100–2000 Hz and temperature range (300–430 K). Also, the ac conductivity has been measured to see the effect of frequency and temperature.  相似文献

Six different complexes containing bis(salphen) [salphen = N,N'‐phenylenebis(salicylideneimine)] ligands were synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis. In the presence of benzyl alcohol as an initiator, all the complexes catalyze the ring‐opening polymerization of lactide and ε‐caprolactone, generating high molecular weight (Mn) polymers in a controlled fashion. The linear relationship between the % conversion and Mn proved the control over the polymerization process. The presence of OBn group as an end group was confirmed by MALDI‐TOF and 1H NMR spectral analysis of low Mn oligomers. The polymerization followed first‐order kinetics as revealed by kinetic experiments. All the complexes were good precatalysts for the polymerization of ethylene. The effect of temperature and time on the yield and activity toward the polymerization of ethylene were widely investigated. In addition, in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide as cocatalyst, the formation of degradable polycarbonate with moderate Mn value and narrow molecular weight distributions was observed by the copolymerization of cyclohexene oxide with CO2. The effect of initiator structure, temperature, CO2 pressure, catalyst/cocatalyst loading on the activity, and selectivity toward copolymerization were systematically examined. The thermal properties of the copolymer synthesized were explored using differential scanning calorimetric and thermogravimetric analysis. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym.
