Investigation to the mixed convective heat and mass transfer over a horizontal plate has been carried out. By applying transformation group theory to analysis of the governing equations of continuity, momentum, energy and diffusion, we show the existence of similarity solution for the problem provided that the temperature and concentration at the wall are proportional to x 4/(7-5n) and that the moving speed of the plate is proportional to x (3-n)/(7-5n), and further obtain a similarity representation of the problem. The similarity equations have been solved numerically by a fourth-order Runge–Kutta scheme. The numerical results obtained for Pr=0.72 and various values of the parameters Sc, K 1, K 2 and K 3 reveals the influence of the parameters on the flow, heat and mass transfer behavior.  相似文献

This paper presents both a numerical and analytical study in connection with the steady boundary layer flow and heat transfer induced by a moving permeable semi-infinite flat plate in a parallel free stream. Both the velocities of the flat plate and the free stream are proportional to x 1/3. The surface temperature is assumed to be constant. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary differential equations by a new similarity transformation. Numerical results for the flow and heat transfer characteristics are obtained for various values of the moving parameter, transpiration parameter and the Prandtl number. Approximate analytical solutions are also obtained when the suction or injection parameter is very large. It is found that dual solutions exist for the case when the fluid and the plate move in the opposite directions.  相似文献

The free convection of non-Newtonian nanofluids along a vertical plate in porous medium is investigated numerically. It is assumed that the medium contains gyrotactic microorganisms along with nanoparticles and the plate is subjected to prescribed temperature, concentration of nanoparticles and density of motile microorganisms. It is further assumed that the plate is impermeable. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The nonlinear ordinary differential equations are then solved by a finite difference numerical method. The effects of controlling parameters on several dimensionless quantities and numbers of our interest are investigated. The numerical results are compared with the published data and an excellent agreement has been found. It is found that nanofluid and bioconvection parameters have strong effects on local Nusselt, Sherwood and density numbers.  相似文献

The problem of coupled heat and mass transfer by natural convection from a semi-infinite inclined flat plate in the presence of an external magnetic field and internal heat generation or absorption effects is formulated. The plate surface has a power-law variation of both wall temperature and concentration and is permeable to allow for possible fluid wall suction or blowing. The resulting governing equations are transformed using a similarity transformation and then solved numerically by an implicit, iterative, finite-difference scheme. Comparisons with previously published work are performed and good agreement is obtained. A parametric study of all involved parameters is conducted and a representative set of numerical results for the velocity and temperature profiles as well as the skin-friction parameter, average Nusselt number, and the average Sherwood number is illustrated graphically to show typical trends of the solutions. The effects of thermal radiation and thermal buoyancy on the steady, laminar boundary layer flow over a horizontal plate is investigated. The plate temperature is assumed to be inversely proportional to the square root of the distance from the leading edge. The set of similarity equations is solved numerically, and the solutions are given for some values of the radiation and buoyancy parameters for Prandtl number unity. It is found that dual solutions exist for negative values of the buoyancy parameter, up to certain critical values. Beyond these values, the solution does no longer exist. Moreover, it is found that there is no local heat transfer at the surface except in the singular point at the leading edge. The radiation parameter is found to increase the local Stanton number.  相似文献

Heat and mass transfer along a semi-infinite vertical flat plate under the combined buoyancy force effects of thermal and species diffusion is investigated in the presence of a strong non-uniform magnetic field and the Hall currents are taken into account. The induced magnetic field due to the motion of the electrically conducting fluid is negligible. This assumption is valid for a small magnetic Reynolds number. The similarity solutions are obtained using the scale group of transformations. These are the only symmetry transformations admitted by the field equations. The non-linear boundary layer equations with the boundary conditions are transferred to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations with the appropriate boundary conditions. Furthermore, the similarity equations are solved numerically by using a fourth order Runge-Kutta scheme with the shooting method. Numerical results for the velocity profiles, the temperature profiles and the concentration profiles are presented graphically for various values of the magnetic parameter M in the range of 0-1 with the Hall parameter m taking the values 0.5, 1, 2, and 3.  相似文献

The present study is devoted to investigate the influences of viscous dissipation on buoyancy induced flow over a horizontal or a vertical flat plate embedded in a non-Newtonian fluid saturated porous medium. The Ostwald-de Waele power-law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. Similarity solutions for the transformed governing equations are obtained with prescribed variable surface temperature (PT) or with prescribed variable surface heat flux (PHF) for the horizontal plate case. While, the similarity solutions are obtained with prescribed variable surface heat flux for the vertical plate case. Different similar transformations, for each case, are used. Numerical results for the details of the velocity and temperature profiles are shown on graphs. Nusselt number associated with temperature distributions and excess surface temperature associated with heat flux distributions which are entered in tables have been presented for different values of the power-law index n and the exponent as well as Eckert number.  相似文献

The chemical reaction effect on an unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow past a semi-infinite vertical porous plate with viscous dissipation is analyzed. The governing equations of motion, energy, and species are transformed into ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using the time dependent similarity parameter. The resultant ODEs are then solved numerically by a finite element method. The effects of various parameters on the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are presented graphically, and the values of the skin-friction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number for various values of physical parameters are presented through tables.  相似文献

Similarity analysis of diffusion of chemically reactive solute distribution in MHD boundary layer flow of an electrically conducting incompressible fluid over a porous flat plate is presented. The reaction rate of the solute is considered inversely proportional along the plate. Adopting the similarity transformation technique the governing equations are converted into the self-similar ordinary differential equations which are solved by shooting procedure using Runge-Kutta method. For increase of the Schmidt number the solute boundary layer thickness is reduced. Most importantly, the effects of reaction rate and order of reaction on concentration field are of conflicting natures, due to increasing reaction rate parameter the concentration decreases, but for the increase in order of reaction it increases. In presence of chemical reaction, the concentration profiles attain negative value when Schmidt number is large.  相似文献

The steady laminar incompressible free convective flow of a nanofluid over a permeable upward facing horizontal plate located in porous medium taking into account the thermal convective boundary condition is studied numerically. The nanofluid model used involves the effect of Brownian motion and the thermophoresis. Using similarity transformations the continuity, the momentum, the energy, and the nanoparticle volume fraction equations are transformed into a set of coupled similarity equations, before being solved numerically, by an implicit finite difference numerical method. Our analysis reveals that for a true similarity solution, the convective heat transfer coefficient related with the hot fluid and the mass transfer velocity must be proportional to x −2/3, where x is the horizontal distance along the plate from the origin. Effects of the various parameters on the dimensionless longitudinal velocity, the temperature, the nanoparticle volume fraction, as well as on the rate of heat transfer and the rate of nanoparticle volume fraction have been presented graphically and discussed. It is found that Lewis number, the Brownian motion, and the convective heat transfer parameters increase the heat transfer rate whilst the thermophoresis decreases the heat transfer rate. It is also found that Lewis number and the convective heat transfer parameter enhance the nanoparticle volume fraction rate whilst the thermophoresis parameter decreases nanoparticle volume fraction rate. A very good agreement is found between numerical results of the present article for special case and published results. This close agreement supports the validity of our analysis and the accuracy of the numerical computations.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the thermal non-equilibrium free convection boundary layer, which is induced by a vertical heated plate embedded in a saturated porous medium. The effect of suction or injection on the free convection boundary layer is also studied. The plate is assumed to have a linear temperature distribution, which yields a boundary layer of constant thickness. On assuming Darcy flow, similarity solutions are obtained for governing the steady laminar boundary layer equations. The reduced Nusselt numbers for both the solid and fluid phases are calculated for a wide range of parameters, and compared with asymptotic analyses.  相似文献

The influence of partial slip, thermal radiation and temperature dependent fluid properties on the hydro-magnetic fluid flow and heat transfer over a flat plate with convective surface heat flux at the boundary and non-uniform heat source/sink is studied. The transverse magnetic field is assumed as a function of the distance from the origin. Also it is assumed that the fluid viscosity and the thermal conductivity vary as an inverse function and linear function of temperature respectively. Using the similarity transformation, the governing system of non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into similarity non-linear ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically using symbolic software MATHEMATICA 7.0. The numerical values obtained within the boundary layer for the dimensionless velocity, temperature, skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are presented through graphs and tables for several sets of values of the parameters. The effects of various physical parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed from the physical point of view.  相似文献

Summary Unsteady laminar free convection flow past a vertical infinite flat plate subjected to suction is considered. Exact solutions of momentum and energy equations are obtained in two cases: (1) When the plate temperature is proportional to some power of time and (2) when the heat flux at the plate is proportional to some power of time. It is assumed that the suction velocity varies as (time)–1/2. Expressions for the temperature and velocity profiles are obtained in closed forms in both the cases. Effect of suction on velocity, temperature, skin friction and rate of head transfer is studied for Prandtl numbers 0.02, 0.1, 0.72, 1 and 10.  相似文献

Nonlinear bending behavior of 3D braided rectangular plates subjected to transverse loads is investigated. A new micro-macro-mechanical model of unit cells is suggested. In this model, a 3D braided composite may be considered as a cell system and the geometry of each cell is deeply dependent on its position in the cross-section of the plate. The material properties of the epoxy are expressed as a linear function of temperature. Based on Reddy’s higher-order shear deformation plate theory and general von Kármán-type equations, analytical solutions for nonlinear bending behavior of simply supported 3D braided rectangular plates are obtained using mixed Galerkin-perturbation method. The numerical examples concern effects of geometric parameters, of fiber volume fraction, braiding angle and load boundary condition.  相似文献

The similarity transform for the steady free convection boundary layer flow of a non-Newtonian fluid (Casson model) with variable wall temperature on a horizontal plate gives a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which is solved analytically by applying a newly developed method namely the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The velocity and temperature profiles are obtained and the influence of Prandtl number and various physical parameters of the problem on these distributions are discussed in detail and are illustrated graphically through a set of graphs. The validity of our solutions is verified by the numerical results.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the cooling process of a vertical thin plate originated by a fluid-saturated porous medium, taking into account the effects of both longitudinal and transversal heat conduction in the plate. Due to the finite thermal conductivity of the plate, a longitudinal temperature gradient arises within it, which prevents any similarity solution in the boundary layer, changing the mathematical character of the problem from parabolic to elliptic, for large values of the suitable Rayleigh number. The energy balance equations are reduced to a system of two differential equations with two parameters: the nondimensional plate thermal conductivity and the aspect ratio of the plate . In order to obtain the evolution of the temperature of the plate as a function of time and position, the coupled balance equations are integrated numerically for several values of the parameters, including the cases of very good and poor conducting plates. The results obtained, are compared with an asymptotic analysis based on the multiple scales technique carried out for the case of a very good conducting plate. There is at the beginning a fast transient in nondimensional time scale of order followed by a slow nondimensional time scale of order unity, which gives the evolution of the cooling process. Good agreement is achieved even for values of the conduction parameter of order unity. The asymptotic solution allows us to give closed form analytical solution for the plate temperature evolution in time and space. The overall thermal energy of the plate decreases faster for smaller values of .  相似文献

An analysis is presented to investigate the effects of thermophoresis and variable viscosity on MHD mixed convective heat and mass transfer of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid past a porous wedge in the presence of chemical reaction. The wall of the wedge is embedded in a uniform porous medium in order to allow for possible fluid wall suction or injection. The governing boundary layer equations are written into a dimensionless form by similarity transformations. The transformed coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by using the R.K. Gill and shooting methods. Favorable comparison with previously published work is performed. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well as for the skin friction, heat and mass transfer and deposition rate are obtained and displayed graphically for pertinent parameters to show interesting aspects of the solution.  相似文献
