Subcooled flow boiling heat transfer for refrigerant R-134a in vertical cylindrical tubes with 0.83, 1.22 and 1.70 mm internal diameter was experimentally investigated. The effects of the heat flux, q″ = 1–26 kW/m2, mass flux, G = 300–700 kg/m2 s, inlet subcooling, ΔTsub,i = 5–15 °C, system pressure, P = 7.70–10.17 bar, and channel diameter, D, on the subcooled boiling heat transfer were explored in detail. The results are presented in the form of boiling curves and heat transfer coefficients. The boiling curves evidenced the existence of hysteresis when increasing the heat flux until the onset of nucleate boiling, ONB. The wall superheat at ONB was found to be essentially higher than that predicted with correlations for larger tubes. An increase of the mass flux leads, for early subcooled boiling, to an increase in the heat transfer coefficient. However, for fully developed subcooled boiling, increases of the mass flux only result in a slight improvement of the heat transfer. Higher inlet subcooling, higher system pressure and smaller channel diameter lead to better boiling heat transfer. Experimental heat transfer coefficients are compared to predictions from classical correlations available in the literature. None of them predicts the experimental data for all tested conditions.  相似文献

Natural convection boiling of water and surfactants at atmospheric pressure in narrow horizontal annular channels was studied experimentally in the range of Bond numbers Bo = 0.185–1.52. The flow pattern was visualized by high-speed video recording to identify the different regimes of boiling of water and surfactants. The channel length was 24 mm and 36 mm, the gap size was 0.45, 1.2, 2.2, and 3.7 mm. The heat flux was in the range of 20–500 kW/m2, the concentration of surfactant solutions was varied from 10 to 600 ppm. For water boiling at Bond numbers Bo < 1 the CHF in restricted space is lower than that in unconfined space. This effect increases with increasing the channel length. For water at Bond number Bo = 1.52, boiling can almost be considered as unconfined. Additive of surfactant led to enhancement of heat transfer compared to water boiling in the same gap size, however, this effect decreased with decreasing gap size. For the same gap size, CHF in surfactant solutions was significantly lower than that in water. Hysteresis was observed for boiling in degraded surfactant solutions.  相似文献

The adiabatic two-phase frictional multipliers for SUVA, R-134a flowing in a rectangular duct (with DH = 4.8 mm) have been measured for three nominal system pressures (0.9 MPa, Tsat = 35.5 °C; 1.38 MPa, Tsat = 51.8 °C; and 2.41 MPa, Tsat = 75.9 °C) and three nominal mass fluxes (510, 1020 and 2040 kg/m2/s). The data is compared with several classical correlations to assess their predictive capabilities. The Lockhart–Martinelli model gives reasonable results at the lowest pressure and mass flux, near the operating range of most refrigeration systems, but gives increasingly poor comparisons as the pressure and mass flux are increased. The Chisholm B-coefficient model is found to best predict the data over the entire range of test conditions; however, there is significant disagreement at the highest pressure tested (with the model over predicting the data upwards of 100% for some cases). The data shows an increased tendency toward homogeneous flow as the pressure and flow rate are increased, and in fact the homogeneous model best predicts the bulk of the data at the highest pressure tested.  相似文献

Saturated flow boiling of environmentally acceptable nonionic surfactant solutions of Alkyl (8–16) was compared to that of pure water. The concentration of surfactant solutions was in the range of 100–1000 ppm. The liquid flowed in an annular gap of 2.5 and 4.4 mm between two vertical tubes. The heat was transferred from the inner heated tube to two-phase flow in the range of mass flux from 5 to 18 kg/m2 s and heat flux from 40 to 200 kW/m2. Boiling curves of water were found to be heat flux and channel gap size dependent but essentially mass flux independent. An addition of surfactant to the water produced a large number of bubbles of small diameter, which, at high heat fluxes, tend to cover the entire heater surface with a vapor blanket. It was found that the heat transfer increased at low values of relative surfactant concentration C/C0, reaches a maximum close to the value of C/C0 = 1 (where C0 = 300 ppm is the critical micelle concentration) and decreased with further increase in the amount of additive. The dependence of the maximal values of the relative heat transfer enhancement, obtained at the value of relative concentration of C/C0 = 1, on the boiling number Bo may be presented as single curve for both gap sizes and the whole range of considered concentrations.  相似文献

This research focuses on acquiring accurate flow boiling heat transfer data and flow pattern visualization for three refrigerants, R134a, R236fa and R245fa in a 1.030 mm channel. We investigate trends in the data, and their possible mechanisms, for mass fluxes from 200 to 1600 kg/m2s, heat fluxes from 2.3 kW/m2 to 250 kW/m2 at Tsat = 31 °C and ΔTsub from 2 to 9 K. The local saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficients display a heat flux and a mass flux dependency but no residual subcooling influence. The changes in heat transfer trends correspond well with flow regime transitions. These were segregated into the isolated bubble (IB) regime, the coalescing bubble (CB) regime, and the annular (A) regime for the three fluids. The importance of nucleate boiling and forced convection in these small channels is still relatively unclear and requires further research.  相似文献

To investigate the CHF characteristics of nano-fluids, pool boiling experiments of nano-fluids with various concentrations of TiO2 or Al2O3 nanoparticles were carried out using a 0.2 mm diameter cylindrical Ni–Cr wire under atmospheric pressure. The results show that the CHFs of various nano-fluids are significantly enhanced over that of pure water. SEM observation subsequent to the CHF experiment revealed that a nanoparticle coating is generated on the wire surface during pool boiling of nano-fluids. The CHF of pure water was measured on a nanoparticle-coated wire which was produced during the pool boiling experiments of nano-fluids. The CHF of pure water on the nanoparticle-coated wire was similar to that of nano-fluids. This result clearly shows that the main reason for CHF enhancement of nano-fluids is the modification of the heating surface by the nanoparticle deposition. The nanoparticle-coated surface was characterized with various parameters closely related to pool boiling CHF: surface roughness, contact angle, and capillary wicking performance. Finally, CHF enhancement of nano-fluids is discussed using the parameters.  相似文献

Steady film flow along a vertical wall with isolated step changes is studied numerically for Reynolds numbers Re ∼ O(10−3–102) and capillary numbers Ca ∼ O(10−2–101). The lengthscale of free surface capillary features upstream of a step-in or step-out decreases uniformly with Re and switches from a −1/3 to a −1/2 power-law dependence on Ca. The height of the capillary features first grows with Re, but eventually diminishes when inertia forces overpower capillary forces. Simultaneously, the key dynamics move from upstream to downstream of the step, and switch from capillary arrest to inertial re-directioning of the falling liquid. The latter mechanism involves a low-pressure region originating from the edge of the step. At a step-out, a new free surface feature appears with increasing Re, which is caused by liquid overshoot in the horizontal direction and is restrained initially by capillary and subsequently by inertial forces. Simple scaling arguments are shown to predict many of the above characteristics.  相似文献

Natural convection boiling of water and surfactant solutions in a confined space between two vertical plates was studied experimentally in the range of heat flux 19–170 kW/m2. The surfactant used was Alkyl (8–16) Glucoside having negligible environmental impact. The gap size was changed in the range of s = 1–80 mm, the concentration of surfactant solutions was changed in the range of C = 200–600 ppm. Generally, an addition of surfactant leads to an enhancement of heat transfer compared to water boiling at the same gap size. Enhancement of the heat transfer depending on the solution concentration at fixed gap size yields maximum value at the solution concentration close to the critical micelle concentration. The effect of confined space on a bubble dynamic was studied. Temperature field on the heater was determined using the infrared thermography technique. Quasi periodic wall temperature fluctuations were observed in the regime of high heat flux. An increase in the Bond number leads to an increase in the dimensionless frequency of the heated wall temperature fluctuations. The correlation between the dimensionless parameter of heat transfer and the Bond number under condition of quasi periodic boiling was derived and discussed.  相似文献

Flow boiling heat transfer coefficients of CO2 have been measured in a single microchannel. Experiments were carried out in a horizontal stainless steel tube of 0.529 mm inner diameter, for three temperatures (−10, −5 and 0 °C), with the mass flux ranging from 200 to 1200 kg/m2 s and the heat flux varying from 10 to 30 kW/m2. The investigation covered qualities from zero to the dryout inception, i.e. pre-dryout conditions. Compared to larger microchannels and positive temperatures, a higher contribution of convective boiling was found, with a larger heat transfer coefficient than for pure nucleate boiling. Mainly two heat transfer regimes were found, depending on the boiling number (Bo). For Bo > 1.1 × 10−4, the heat transfer coefficient was highly dependent on the heat flux and moderately influenced by the quality and the mass flux. For Bo < 1.1 × 10−4, the heat transfer coefficient was hardly affected by the heat flux but strongly influenced by the quality and the mass flux. In addition, dryout results were reported. The effect of the mass flux on the dryout inception quality was found to be highly dependent on the heat flux and the saturation temperature.  相似文献

This paper experimentally investigates flow boiling characteristics in a cross-linked microchannel heat sink at low mass fluxes and high heat fluxes. The heat sink consists of 45 straight microchannels each with a hydraulic diameter of 248 μm and heated length of 16 mm. Three cross-links, of width 500 μm, are introduced in the present microchannel heat sink to achieve better temperature uniformity and to avoid flow mal-distribution. Flow visualization, flow instability, two-phase pressure drop, and two-phase heat transfer measurements are conducted using the dielectric coolant FC-72 over a range of heat flux from 7.2 to 104.2 kW/m2, mass flux from 99 to 290 kg/m2 s, and exit quality from 0.01 to 0.71. Thermochromic liquid crystals are used in the present study as full-field surface temperature sensors to map the temperature distribution on the heat sink surface. Flow visualization studies indicate that the observed flow regime is primarily slug. Visual observations of flow patterns in the cross-links demonstrate that bubbles nucleate and grow rapidly on the surface of the cross-links and in the tangential direction at the microchannels’ entrance due to the effect of circulations generated in those regions. The two-phase pressure drop strongly increases with the exit quality, at xe,o < 0.3, and the two-phase frictional pressure drop increases by a factor of 1.6–2 compared to the straight microchannel heat sink. The flow boiling heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing exit quality at a constant mass flux, which is caused by the dominance of the nucleation boiling mechanism in the cross-link region.  相似文献

This article presents experiments conducted with two single rectangular mini-channels of same hydraulic diameter (1.4 mm) and different aspect ratios for conditions of horizontal boiling flow. The Forane® 365 HX used was subcooled (ΔTsub = 15 °C) for all the boiling curves presented in the paper. Local heat transfer coefficients were measured for heat flux ranging from 25 to 62 kW m−2 and mass flux from 200 kg m−2 s−1 to 400 kg m−2 s−1. The boiling flows were observed with two different cameras (depending on the flow velocity) through a visualization window. The flow patterns in the two channels were compared for similar conditions. The results show that the boiling heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop values are different for the two single mini-channels. For low heat flux condition, the channel with lowest aspect ratio (H/W = 0.143) has a higher heat transfer coefficient. On the other hand, for high heat flux condition, the opposite situation occurs, namely the heat transfer coefficient becomes higher for the channel with highest aspect ratio (H/W = 0.43). This is probably due to the earlier onset of dryout in the channel with lowest aspect ratio. For the two cases of heating, the pressure drop for the two-phase flow remains lower for the channel with lowest aspect ratio. These results show that the aspect ratio plays a substantial role for boiling flows in rectangular channels. As for single-phase flows, the heat transfer characteristics are significantly influenced (even though the hydraulic diameter remains the same) by this parameter.  相似文献

This part of the paper presents the current experimental flow boiling heat transfer and CHF data acquired for R134a, R236fa and R245fa in single, horizontal channels of 1.03, 2.20 and 3.04 mm diameters over a range of experimental conditions. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of channel confinement, heat flux, flow pattern, saturation temperature, subcooling and working fluid properties on the two-phase heat transfer and CHF. Experimentally, it was observed that the flow boiling heat transfer coefficients are a significant function of the type of two-phase flow pattern. Furthermore, the monotonically increasing heat transfer coefficients at higher vapor qualities, corresponding to annular flow, signifies convective boiling as the dominant heat transfer mechanism in these small scale channels. The decreasing heat transfer trend at low vapor qualities in the slug flow (coalescing bubble dominated regime) was indicative of thin film evaporation with intermittent dry patch formation and rewetting at these conditions. The coalescing bubble flow heat transfer data were well predicted by the three-zone model when setting the dryout thickness to the measured surface roughness, indicating for the first time a roughness effect on the flow boiling heat transfer coefficient in this regime. The CHF data acquired during the experimental campaign indicated the influence of saturation temperature, mass velocity, channel confinement and fluid properties on CHF but no influence of inlet subcooling for the conditions tested. When globally comparing the CHF values for R134a in the 0.51-3.04 mm diameter channels, a peak in CHF peak was observed lying in between the 0.79 (Co ≈ 0.99) and 1.03 (Co ≈ 0.78) mm channels. A new CHF correlation has been proposed involving the confinement number, Co that is able to predict CHF for R134a, R236fa and R245fa in single-circular channels, rectangular multichannels and split flow rectangular multichannels. In summary, the present flow boiling and CHF trends point to a macro-to-microscale transition as indicated by the results presented in Ong and Thome (2011) [1].  相似文献

The purpose of this work is to study the effects of nanostructured surface coatings on boiling heat transfer and CHF. Boiling experiments are performed on a 100 μm diameter platinum wire immersed in saturated water or pentane at 1 bar. Nanostructured surface coating is obtained by deposition of charged γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (average diameter of 10 nm) on the platinum wire. Two different processes are compared: vigorous boiling and electrophoresis. The deposition of nanoparticles onto the heated surface induces a significant increase of the boiling critical heat flux (CHF) related to the increase of wettability. It also induces a decrease of the heat transfer coefficient when the wire is entirely covered with nanoparticles. The critical heat flux enhancement depends on the wettability of the fluid compared with the bare heater. Different physical mechanisms are also studied to explain the evolution of the characteristic parameters of the boiling on nanostructured surfaces.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to construct yield surfaces to describe initial yielding and characterize hardening behavior of a highly anisotropic material. A methodology for constructing yield surfaces for isotropic materials using axial–torsion loading is extended to highly anisotropic materials. The technique uses a sensitive definition of yielding based on permanent strain rather than offset strain, and enables multiple yield points and multiple yield surfaces to be conducted on a single specimen. A target value of 20 × 10−6 is used for Al2O3 fiber reinforced aluminum laminates having a fiber volume fraction of 0.55. Sixteen radial probes are used to define the yield locus in the axial–shear stress plane. Initial yield surfaces for [04], [904], and [0/90]2 fibrous aluminum laminates are well described by ellipses in the axial–shear stress plane having aspect ratios of 10, 2.5, and 3.3, respectively. For reference, the aspect ratio of the Mises ellipse for an isotropic material is 1.73. Initial yield surfaces do not have a tension–compression asymmetry. Four overload profiles (plus, ex, hourglass, and zee) are applied to characterize hardening of a [0/90]2 laminate by constructing 30 subsequent yield surfaces. Parameters to describe the center and axes of an ellipse are regressed to the yield points. The results clearly indicate that kinematic hardening dominates so that material state evolution can be described by tracking the center of the yield locus. For a nonproportional overload of (στ) = (500, 70) MPa, the center of the yield locus translated to (στ) = (430, 37) MPa and the ellipse major axis was only 110 MPa.  相似文献

High speed visualizations and thermal performance studies of pool boiling heat transfer on copper foam covers were performed at atmospheric pressure, with the heating surface area of 12.0 mm by 12.0 mm, using acetone as the working fluid. The foam covers have ppi (pores per inch) from 30 to 90, cover thickness from 2.0 to 5.0 mm, and porosity of 0.88 and 0.95. The surface superheats are from −20 to 190 K, and the heat fluxes reach 140 W/cm2. The 30 and 60 ppi foam covers show the periodic single bubble generation and departure pattern at low surface superheats. With continuous increases in surface superheats, they show the periodic bubble coalescence and/or re-coalescence pattern. Cage bubbles were observed to be those with liquid filled inside and vented to the pool liquid. For the 90 ppi foam covers, the bubble coalescence takes place at low surface superheats. At moderate or large surface superheats, vapor fragments continuously escape to the pool liquid.  相似文献

The paper presents experimental data on pool boiling heat transfer of tandem tubes, arranged one above the other in the same vertical plane. The outer surface of the tubes is provided with the novel microstructures. The structure elements are micropins created by electrolytic deposition of copper upon the tube, using a specially treated polycarbonate foil. By this technique the pins diameter can be varied from 0.1 μm up to 25 μm, the pins height goes up to 100 μm at densities up to 1 × 109 pins/cm2 and pins inclination almost up to 180° regarding the base surface. Micropins with several different inclinations can be created simultaneously on the same surface.Experiments were conducted with two different microstructures using the refrigerant R134a and the highly wetting Fluorinert liquid FC-3284 at pressures of 5-9 bar and 0.5-1.5 bar, respectively. The advantages of the novel microstructure regarding the boiling heat transfer for tandem tubes turned out to be practically the same as for a single tube arrangement. Microstructured tubes have the superheat independent on the heat flux, they show a very low boiling inception superheats (below 2 K), are highly effective in comparison with a technically smooth tubes, and operate stable over the long periods of time.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of inverted annular film boiling heat transfer has been performed for vertical up-flow in a round tube. The experiments used R-134a coolant and covered a pressure range of 640–2390 kPa (water equivalent range: 4000–14,000 kPa) and a mass flux range of 500–4000 kg m−2 s−1 (water equivalent range: 700–5700 kg m−2 s−1). The inlet qualities of the tests ranged from −0.75 to −0.03. The hot-patch technique was used to obtain the subcooled film boiling measurements. It was found that the heat transfer vs. quality curve can be divided into four different regions, each characterized by a different mechanisms and trends. These regions are dependent on pressure, mass flux and local quality. A detailed examination of the parametric trends of the heat transfer coefficient with respect to mass flux, inlet quality, heat flux and pressure was performed; reasonably good agreement between observed trends and those reported in the literature were noted.  相似文献

The influence of a surfactant, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), on the pool boiling behavior of aqueous polyacrylamide solutions has been investigated. The basic test section is a heated horizontal platinum wire submerged in a saturated pool of liquid at atmospheric pressure. Results are reported for six combinations of deionized water, polyacrylamide and surfactant. Measurements of surface tension and steady shear apparent viscosity are reported for each working solution. The boiling heat transfer performance of deionized water containing concentrations of 250 and 1000 (parts per million by weight) wppm of the surfactant did not differ significantly from the values found for deionized water. For the 250 wppm aqueous polyacrylamide solution the boiling performance is poorer than that found for water alone. However, the addition of 250 wppm of SLS to the aqueous polyacrylamide solution resulted in a significant improvement in the boiling heat transfer performance compared to water. An increase in the surfactant concentration to 1000 wppm to the aqueous polymer solution revealed even greater improvement in the boiling performance. At a heat flux of 50 W/cm2, increases in the heat transfer coefficient were as much as 50% for the 250 wppm AP-30 — 250 wppm SLS solution and 100% the for 250 wppm AP-30 — 1000 wppm SLS solution as compared to deionized water alone. On the basis of these results, it appears that the influence of surfactants on the boiling heat transfer performance of aqueous polymer solutions may be more significant than in the case where surfactants are added to Newtonian fluids.

The heat transfer coefficients of the evaporative water flow in mini/microchannels are studied experimentally to explore the novel heat dissipation for high power electronics. Two sets of parallel channels which are 61 channels with hydraulic diameter of 0.293 mm and 20 channels with hydraulic diameter of 1.2 mm are investigated respectively. The inlet and outlet temperatures of fluids, and the temperatures beneath the channels are measured to calculate the heat dissipation of the evaporative water in channels. The experiments are carried out with the mass flow rates range from 11.09 kg/(m2 s) to 44.36 kg/(m2 s) for minichannels and 49.59 kg/(m2 s) to 198.37 kg/(m2 s) for microchannels. The effective heat flux range from 5 W/cm2 to 50 W/cm2, and the resulted outlet vapor qualities range from 0 to 0.8. The relations of the heat transfer coefficient with heat flux and vapor quality are analyzed according to the results. The experimental heat transfer coefficients are compared with the prediction of latest developed correlations. A new correlation takes the effect of Bond number is proposed, and be verified that it is effective to predict the heat transfer coefficient of both minichannels and microchannels in a large range of vapor qualities.  相似文献

Flow boiling heat transfer in a single circular micro-channel of 0.19 mm ID has been experimentally investigated with R123 and R134a for various experimental conditions: heat fluxes (10, 15, 20 kW/m2), mass velocities (314, 392, 470 kg/m2 s), vapor qualities (0.2–0.85) and different saturation pressures (158, 208 kPa for R123; 900, 1100 kPa for R134a). The heat transfer trends between R123 and R134a are clearly distinguished. Whether nucleate boiling is suppressed at low vapor quality or not determines the heat transfer trend and mechanism in the flow boiling of micro-channels. High convective heat transfer coefficients in the two-phase flow of micro-channels enables nucleate boiling to be suppressed even at low vapor quality, depending on the wall superheat requirement for nucleate boiling. In the case of early suppression of nucleate boiling, specifically R123, heat transfer is dominated by evaporation of thin liquid films around elongated bubbles. In the contrary case, namely R134a, nucleate boiling is dominant heat transfer mechanism until its suppression at high vapor quality and then two-phase forced convection heat transfer becomes dominant. It is similar to the heat transfer characteristic of macro-channels except the enhancement of nucleate boiling and the short forced convection region.  相似文献
