The Rayleigh-Ritz method, refinement and Arnoldi process for periodic matrix pairs

We extend the Rayleigh-Ritz method to the eigen-problem of periodic matrix pairs. Assuming that the deviations of the desired periodic eigenvectors from the corresponding periodic subspaces tend to zero, we show that there exist periodic Ritz values that converge to the desired periodic eigenvalues unconditionally, yet the periodic Ritz vectors may fail to converge. To overcome this potential problem, we minimize residuals formed with periodic Ritz values to produce the refined periodic Ritz vectors, which converge under the same assumption. These results generalize the corresponding well-known ones for Rayleigh-Ritz approximations and their refinement for non-periodic eigen-problems. In addition, we consider a periodic Arnoldi process which is particularly efficient when coupled with the Rayleigh-Ritz method with refinement. The numerical results illustrate that the refinement procedure produces excellent approximations to the original periodic eigenvectors.     

Almost Periodic Solutions of Nonlinear Second Order Differential Equations

We provide existence results for almost periodic solutions of nonlinear second order ordinary differential equations. The results extend existence results for periodic solutions of periodic equations, where the existence of periodic sub and supersolutions implied the existence of periodic solutions.

Periodic solution to the time-inhomogeneous multi-server Poisson queue

We derive the periodic family of asymptotic distributions and the periodic moments for number in the queue for the multi-server queue with Poisson arrivals and exponential service for time-varying periodic arrival and departure rates, and time-varying periodic number of servers. The method is a straight-forward application of generating functions.

Single periodic Riemann problems for null-solutions to polynomially Cauchy–Riemann equations

In this paper, we focus on single periodic Riemann problems for a class of meta-analytic functions, i.e. null-solutions to polynomially Cauchy–Riemann equation. We first establish decomposition theorems for single periodic meta-analytic functions. Then, we give a series expansion of single periodic meta-analytic functions, and derive generalised Liouville theorems for them. Next, we introduce a definition of order for single periodic meta-analytic functions at infinity, and characterise their growth at infinity. Finally, applying the decomposition theorem for single periodic meta-analytic functions, we get explicit expressions of solutions and condition of solvability to Riemann problems for single periodic meta-analytic functions with a finite order at infinity.     

On small perturbations of a nonlinear periodic system with degenerate equilibrium

This paper considers the reducibility and existence of periodic solutions for a class of nonlinear periodic system with a degenerate equilibrium point under small perturbations. By introducing some parameter, we consider an equivalent periodic system. Then we prove that by an affine linear periodic transformation the parameterized periodic system is reducible to one with zero as an equilibrium. Topological degree theorem ensures that for some parameter the result can go back to the original system. Then, we obtain a small periodic solution.

Periodic jordan rings and order structure

The aim of this paper is to obtain information about a periodic Jordan ring by using only properties of its idempotent elements. Osborn proves that a power-associative periodic ring having only one nonzero idempotent element is a division ring. so associative. He also proves that a periodic Jordan ring is a subdirect product of simple periodic Jordan rings and that a simple periodic Jordan ring is either a periodic field or a Jordan ring of capacity 2. Using these results we obtain some necessary and suficient conditions for a periodic Jordan ring to be associative, and these conditions are only given in terms of the idempotent elements. We also characterize the periodic Jordan ring which are a direct product of periodic fields and simple periodic Jordan rings of capacity two.     

Periodic Wave Solutions and Their Limits for the Modified Kd V–KP Equations

In this paper, we use the bifurcation method of dynamical systems to study the periodic wave solutions and their limits for the modified Kd V–KP equations. Some explicit periodic wave solutions are obtained. These solutions contain smooth periodic wave solutions and periodic blow-up solutions. Their limits contain solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, kink wave solutions and unbounded solutions.     

Exact periodic kink-wave and degenerative soliton solutions for potential Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation

Exact periodic kink-wave solution, periodic soliton and doubly periodic solutions for the potential Kadomtsev–Petviashvii (PKP) equation are obtained using homoclinic test technique and extended homoclinic test technique, respectively. It is investigated that periodic soliton is degenerated into doubly periodic wave varying with direction of wave propagation.

Massera-Type theorem and asymptotically periodic Logistic equations

Some important properties of asymptotically periodic functions were studied in this paper. Sufficient conditions of existence of globally stable asymptotically periodic solution were obtained. Then, Massera-Type theorems were discussed for one-dimensional, two-dimensional, higher-dimensional asymptotically periodic systems. Finally, global stability of periodic Logistic equations and asymptotically periodic Logistic equations were considered, respectively.

本文应用Ｂａｎａｃｈ空间中的Ｈｏｒｎ不动点得到了高维时滞的周期Ｋｏｌｍｏｇｏｒｏｖ型生态系统的正周期解存在性定理,作为这个定理的应用,讨论了几类时滞的周期ＬｏｔｋａＶｏｌｔｅｒｒａ型系统的正周期解的存在性问题,建立了新的实用的判别准则。     

The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic orbits in a Lotka-Volterra system

By extending Darboux method to three dimension, we present necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic orbits in three species Lotka-Volterra systems with the same intrinsic growth rates. Therefore, all the published sufficient or necessary conditions for the existence of periodic orbits of the system are included in our results. Furthermore, we prove the stability of periodic orbits. Hopf bifurcation is shown for the emergence of periodic orbits and new phenomenon is presented: at critical values, each equilibrium are surrounded by either equilibria or periodic orbits.
