The resolution and signal to noise ratio of EPR imaging and T(1)-weighted MRI were compared using an identical phantom. Several solutions of nitroxyl contrast agents with different EPR spectral shapes were tested. The feasibility of T(1)-weighted MRI to detect nitroxyl contrast agents was described. T(1)-weighted MRI can detect nitroxyl contrast agents with a complicated EPR spectrum easier and quicker; however, T(1)-weighted MRI has less quantitative ability especially for lipophilic nitroxyl contrast agents, because T(1)-relaxivity, i.e. accessibility to water, is affected by the hydrophilic/hydrophobic micro-environment of a nitroxyl contrast agent. The less quantitative ability of T(1)-weighted MRI may not be a disadvantage of redox imaging, which obtains reduction rate of a nitroxyl contrast. Therefore, T(1)-weighted MRI has a great advantage to check the pharmacokinetics of newly modified and/or designed nitroxyl contrast agents.  相似文献

A new iterative extrapolation image reconstruction algorithm is presented, which enhances low resolution metabolic magnetic resonance images (MRI) with information about the bounds of signal sources obtained from a priori anatomic proton ((1)H) MRI. The algorithm ameliorates partial volume and ringing artefacts, leaving unchanged local metabolic heterogeneity that is present in the original dataset but not evident at (1)H MRI. Therefore, it is ideally suited to metabolic studies of ischemia, infarction and other diseases where the extent of the abnormality at (1)H MRI is uncertain. The performance of the algorithm is assessed by simulations, MRI of phantoms, and by surface coil 23Na MRI studies of canine myocardial infarction on a clinical scanner where the injury was not evident at (1)H MRI. The algorithm includes corrections for transverse field inhomogeneity, and for the leakage of intense signals into regions of interest such as 23Na MRI signals from ventricular blood ringing into the myocardium. The simulations showed that the algorithm reduced ringing artefacts by 15%, was stable at low SNR ( approximately 7), but is sensitive to the positioning of the (1)H MRI boundaries. The 23Na MRI showed hyperenhancement of regions identified as infarcted at post-mortem histological staining. The areas of hyperenhancement were measured by five independent observers in four 23Na images of infarction reconstructed with and without the algorithm. The infarct areas were correlated with areas determined by post-mortem histological staining with coefficient 0.85 for the enhanced images, compared to 0.58 with the conventional images. The scatter in the amplitude and in the area measurements of ischemia-associated hyper-enhancement in 23Na MRI was reduced by the algorithm by 1.6-fold and by at least 3-fold, respectively, demonstrating its ability to substantially improve quantification of the extent and intensity of metabolic changes in injured tissue that is not evident by (1)H MRI.  相似文献

The optimal volume of contrast medium must be injected into the patient who emits the maximum signal intensity in an ROI. This study was investigated four different type MRI and one CT contrast agent in vitro and sought to establish relations between concentration, MRI relaxivity, CT Hounsfield unites selected kVp and different MRI T1 sequences. Using a CT contrast medium and four different MRI T1 contrast media, we developed five different phantom series. The MRI contrast media phantom was imaged on 1.5T and 3T MRI systems and measured the R1 and R2 value. A CT scanner was used to obtain images of the Iopromide 370 phantom with the quality of radiation to obtain images. The Pearson's correlation coefficient analyses were conducted between MRI CM phantom series with Iopromide 370 phantom. The non-parametric statistical analyses were performed for the values of kVp. The ΔHU of the test solution of the CT contrast media was produced in the same amount as the exponentially increased concentration of the MRI contrast media according to the increase in the dilution concentration, and was influenced by the quality of the X-ray. Through the results of this experiment that considered the two aforementioned factors, an image with a high diagnosis value can be acquired from the information on the concentration of the MRI T1 contrast media.  相似文献

Forty-seven male patients with suspected prostatic disease underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the pelvis on a Picker resistive magnet operating at 0.15 T; 33 had histologically proved adenocarcinoma, 12 benign prostatic hypertrophy, 1 a transitional cell carcinoma, and 1 a seminoma. Eleven normal subjects also were included in the study. The study attempted to (1) define the MRI characteristics of the normal prostate, benign prostatic hypertrophy, and prostatic adenocarcinoma, (2) evaluate various pulse sequences in imaging the prostate, and (3) compare MRI findings with clinical, pathologic, and computed tomography results. Various pulse sequences, including inversion recovery and spin-echo with short and long TE and TR, were used. MRI was sensitive in detecting intracapsular and extracapsular prostatic disease. The finding of inhomogeneous signal texture throughout the gland was a sensitive but nonspecific finding for adenocarcinoma. A focal nodule with prolonged T1 and T2 relaxation times was the most specific MRI finding for adenocarcinoma. Extracapsular spread of neoplasm was often demonstrated, and because of its superior soft-tissue contrast ability, MRI was more accurate than computed tomography in delineating extracapsular extension.  相似文献

In vivo natural-abundance17O and1H magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques were combined to image the whole body of a rhesus monkey. The results demonstrate the feasibility of acquiring consecutive fast17O and1H images with a standard MRI scanner. Disseminated osseous tuberculosis is a rare disease. This is a report of two cases of disseminated osseous tuberculosis imaged with MRI at 1.5-T, CT, plain radiography and bone scintigraphy. CT and plain radiography demonstrated either highly destructive or cystic lesions with sclerotic margins. Bone scintigraphy and plain radiography were quite insensitive in detecting areas of involvement compared to MRI. On MRI the abnormal areas had short T-1 relaxation values, which is an atypical appearance for bony infections, and prolonged T-2 relaxation values. The reason for the T-1 relaxation behavior is uncertain. MRI also provided delineation of epidural extent.  相似文献

We report a case of multiple hemorrhagic cerebral metastases from papillary thyroid cancer, with reference to T(2)*-weighted gradient echo (GRE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Small metastatic nodules were recognized as round nodules with signal loss on T(2)*-weighted GRE MRI, and were more pronounced compared with other sequences. Lesions were later confirmed as hemorrhagic on T(1)- and T(2)-weighted MRI. T(2)*-weighted GRE MRI was a sensitive tool for early detection of metastases displaying hemorrhagic changes.  相似文献

Primary epiploic appendagitis (PEA) occurs secondary to inflammation of an epiploic appendage, and is considered to be a rare cause of acute abdomen. In this case report, we describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of PEA correlated with computed tomographic (CT) findings. MRI findings included an oval shaped fat intensity mass with a central dot on T1- and T2-weighted images, which possessed an enhancing rim on postgadolinium T1-weighted fat saturated images. The lesion was best visualized on postcontrast T1-weighted fat saturated images. MRI findings of PEA should be considered in the differential diagnosis with the other causes of acute abdominal pain.  相似文献

Contrast media such as gadolinium-diethlene-triamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA) is used for MRI. Recently there have been some reports about diagnosis using contrast media for the MRI T(1) image for the quantitative evaluation of articular cartilage degeneration. This may be a useful method to evaluate the lesion of the articular cartilage or to confirm therapeutic progress. Whether or not contrast is used, the use of the calculated T(1) image is effective for the quantitative evaluation of the degeneration of knee joint cartilage. However, our system copes with the format of every MRI image even if software of the calculated T(1) image isn't often prepared in the commercial MRI device. So, we developed general purpose image data processing software that can be processed on the preexisting three-dimensional image data processing system.  相似文献

We retrospectively reviewed MR studies on 10 patients with renal-related perinephric fluid collections who underwent MRI in three institutions between January 2001 and August 2004. All patients underwent MRI of the abdomen and T1-weighted, T2-weighted and serial contrast-enhanced images, including delayed-phase contrast-enhanced images 10-12 min after contrast injection, were obtained. Perinephric fluid collections in 5 patients revealed MRI findings of simple fluid content (i.e., hypointense on T1-weighted images and hyperintense on T2-weighted images). In another 5 patients, a complex perinephric fluid content (i.e., mixed hyper/hypointense on T1-weighted images and mixed hypo/hyperintense on T2-weighted images compatible with blood breakdown products and pus) was observed. In 5 patients, contrast extravasation on late-phase images that was compatible with urine leak was demonstrated. Our results suggest that MRI may determine the content of perinephric fluid collections on noncontrast T1-weighted and T2-weighted images and that contrast extravasation on late-phase images is associated with urine extravasation from renal collecting systems.  相似文献

Conventionally implemented MRI is performed in a strong magnetic field, typically >1 T. The high fields, however, can lead to many limitations. To overcome these limitations, ultra-low field (ULF) [or microtesla] MRI systems have been proposed and implemented. To-date such systems rely on low-Tc Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) leading to the requirement of cryogens. In this letter, we report ULF–MRI obtained with a non-cryogenic atomic magnetometer. This demonstration creates opportunities for developing inexpensive and widely applicable MRI scanners.  相似文献

Initial clinical experience with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the abdomen using short TI inversion-recovery (STIR) pulse sequences is described and compared with X-ray CT in a variety of abdominal disease. The extent of abnormality shown with MRI was greater than that with CT in 21 of 30 cases and equal in 9 cases. Lesion contrast was greater with MRI in 15 cases, equal in 14 and less in 1. The level of artefact was equal in 27 cases and greater with MRI in 3 cases. The STIR pulse sequence has significant advantages in producing high soft-tissue contrast, controlling respiratory artefact, avoiding confusion with intra-abdominal fat and identifying bowel loops.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using proton and sodium magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect fluid accumulation produced by fludrocortisone and nifedipine - two drugs known to cause salt/water retention by different mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve young healthy male subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups and treated with either fludrocortisone or nifedipine for 14 or 25 days, respectively. The change in sodium MRI, as well as in proton T(2) value and T(1)-weighted signal intensity in the calf following postural change [referred to here as 'postural delta signal'(PDS)], was evaluated before, during and after drug administration. The changes in MRI PDS were compared to conventional physiological parameters, including body weight, calf volume and pitting edema. RESULTS: When compared to the baseline pretreatment values, the subjects treated with fludrocortisone showed a 5.5% increase in sodium MRI PDS (P=.01), a 2-ms increase in proton T(2) PDS of the gastrocnemius muscle (P=.06) and a body weight gain of 2.3% (P=.001) within 1 week. In the nifedipine-treated subjects, the sodium MRI PDS increased by 6% versus baseline (P=.03), while the proton T(2) PDS of the gastrocnemius muscle increased by 3.7 ms (P=.01), associated with a 0.5% weight gain (P=.55), within 3 weeks. No significant changes were noted in the T(1)-weighed images following postural change. Measurements of calf circumference, volume and pitting edema did not show consistent changes associated with the drug administration. CONCLUSION: The postural change in sodium MRI and proton T(2) signals provides a sensitive method for detecting the fluid accumulation produced by fludrocortisone and nifedipine. The MRI results are consistent with treatment-induced increases in extracellular fluid volume and correlate well with the observed weight gain. These findings support the potential utility of MRI for the evaluation of medication-induced fluid retention.  相似文献

Background and purposeGiven increasing interest in laser interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) to treat brain tumor patients, we explored if examining multiple MRI contrasts per brain tumor patient undergoing surgery can impact predictive accuracy of survival post-LITT.Materials and methodsMRI contrasts included fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR), T1 pre-gadolinium (T1pre), T1 post-gadolinium (T1Gd), T2, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), susceptibility weighted images (SWI), and magnetization-prepared rapid gradient-echo (MPRAGE). The latter was used for MRI data registration across preoperative to postoperative scans. Two ROIs were identified by thresholding preoperative FLAIR (large ROI) and T1Gd (small ROI) images. For each MRI contrast, a numerical score was assigned based on changing image intensity of both ROIs (vs. a normal ROI) from preoperative to postoperative stages. The fully-quantitative method was based on changing image intensity across scans at different stages without any human intervention, whereas the semi-quantitative method was based on subjective criteria of cumulative trends across scans at different stages. A fully-quantitative/semi-quantitative score per patient was obtained by averaging scores for each MRI contrast. A standard neuroradiological reading score per patient was obtained from radiological interpretation of MRI data. Scores from all 3 methods per patient were compared against patient survival, and re-examined for comorbidity and pathology effects.ResultsPatient survival correlated best with semi-quantitative scores obtained from T1Gd, ADC, and T2 data, and these correlations improved when biopsy and comorbidity were included.ConclusionThese results suggest interfacing neuroradiological readings with semi-quantitative image analysis can improve predictive accuracy of patient survival.  相似文献

PurposeProgrammed death 1 ligand (PD-L 1) plays an essential role in oncology. It might be crucial to predict its expression non-invasively by imaging. Dynamic-contrast enhanced MRI (DCE MRI) is one of the important imaging modalities in head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC). The aim of the present study was to analyze possible associations between histogram analysis parameters of DCE MRI and PD-L 1 expression in HNSCCMethodsOverall, 26 patients with primary HNSCC of different localizations were involved in the study. DCE MRI was obtained on a 3 T MRI and analyzed with a whole lesion measurement using a histogram approach. PD-L 1 expression was estimated on bioptic samples before any form of treatment using 3 scores (Tumor positive score (TPS), Immune cell score (ICS) and Combined positive score (CPS)).ResultsCPS correlated with mode derived from Ktrans (r = 0.40, p = .04). Also CPS correlated with P90 derived from Kep (r = 0.40, p = .04). ICS correlated with the maximum derived from Kep (r = 0.41, p = .03) and entropy derived from Kep (r = 0.43, p = .02). There were no associations between DCE MRI parameters and TPS.ConclusionKtrans and Kep related histogram analysis parameters derived from DCE MRI correlated moderately with PD-L 1 expression of immune cells in HNSCC.  相似文献

A single injection of high-dose steroid (20 mg/kg) has been reported to induce necrotic lesions in the proximal metaphysis and diaphysis of the rabbit femur. In the rabbit osteonecrosis (ON) model induced by two-dose horse serum injections, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and T2*-weighted dynamic MRI have been reported to detect necrotic lesions at 3 days after the second serum injection sensitively. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether contrast-enhanced MRI and T2*-weighted dynamic MRI could detect early development of necrotic lesions in the rabbit proximal femora after a single high-dose steroid injection and compare MRI features of the two types of nontraumatic rabbit ON models. We performed nonenhanced MRI, contrast-enhanced MRI and T2*-weighted dynamic MRI of bilateral proximal femora 3 days (10 femora), 1 week (10 femora), 3 weeks (10 femora), 6 weeks (18 femora) and 9 weeks (18 femora) after a single 20 mg/kg steroid injection. Femoral signal intensity of each T2*-weighted dynamic MRI was measured from a 1-cm(2) region of interest in the proximal metaphysis and diaphysis. As a control, MRI was performed in untreated animals (six femora). Histologically, no necrotic lesions were observed in the proximal femora at 3 days and 1 week. Bone marrow necrosis was observed in four (40%) femora at 3 weeks, two (11.1%) femora at 6 weeks and six (33.3%) femora at 9 weeks. Bone marrow lesion completely replaced by granulation tissue was observed in one femur at 6 weeks and one femur at 9 weeks. Histologic evidence of repair tissue surrounding bone marrow necrosis was seen after 6 weeks. Average lesion area including repair tissue was 4.40 mm(2) (range, 0.32 to 20.2 mm(2)). At 9 weeks, contrast-enhanced MRI could detect four (66.7%) femora with bone marrow necrosis of more than 4 mm(2) in the lesion area, while T2*-weighted dynamic images showed a finding of complete ischemia in only one of these four femora. In conclusion, neither contrast-enhanced MRI nor T2*-weighted dynamic MRI could detect early development of necrotic lesions in the single-dose steroid ON model. These results indicated that development of necrotic lesions in the single-dose steroid ON model was not accompanied by as diffuse a femoral hemodynamic change as the two-dose horse serum ON model.  相似文献

Purpose

To compare the diagnostic performance of the noncontrast MRI including DWI to the standard MRI for detecting hepatic malignancies in patients with chronic liver disease.

Materials and methods

We included 135 patients with 136 histologically-confirmed hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), 12 cholangiocarcinomas, and 34 benign lesions (≤ 2.0 cm), and 22 patients with cirrhosis but no focal liver lesion who underwent 3.0 T liver MRI. Noncontrast MRI set (T1- and T2-weighted images and DWI) and standard MRI set (gadoxetic acid-enhanced and noncontrast MRI) were analyzed independently by three observers to detect liver malignancies using receiver operating characteristic analysis.

Results

The Az value of the noncontrast MRI (mean, 0.906) was not inferior to that of the combined MRI (mean, 0.924) for detecting malignancies by all observers (P > 0.05). For each observer, no significant difference was found in the sensitivity and specificity between the two MRI sets for detecting liver malignancies and distinguishing them from benign lesions (P > 0.05), whereas negative predictive value was higher with the combined MRI than with the noncontrast MRI (P = 0.0001). When using pooled data, the sensitivity of the combined MRI (mean 94.8%) was higher than that of the noncontrast MRI (mean, 91.7%) (P = 0.001), whereas specificity was equivalent (78.6% vs 77.5%).

Conclusion

Noncontrast MRI including DWI showed reasonable performance compared to the combined gadoxetic acid-enhanced and noncontrast MRI set for detecting HCC and cholangiocarcinoma and differentiating them from benign lesions in patients with chronic liver disease.  相似文献
