Let G=(V,E) be a finite, simple and non-empty (p,q)-graph of order p and size q. An (a,d)-vertex-antimagic total labeling is a bijection f from V(G)∪E(G) onto the set of consecutive integers 1,2,…,p+q, such that the vertex-weights form an arithmetic progression with the initial term a and the common difference d, where the vertex-weight of x is the sum of values f(xy) assigned to all edges xy incident to vertex x together with the value assigned to x itself, i.e. f(x). Such a labeling is called super if the smallest possible labels appear on the vertices. In this paper, we will study the properties of such labelings and examine their existence for disconnected graphs.  相似文献

In this note we complete an investigation started by Erd?s in 1963 that aims to find the strongest possible conclusion from the hypothesis of Turán’s theorem in extremal graph theory.Let be the complete r-partite graph with parts of sizes s1≥2,s2,…,sr with an edge added to the first part. Letting tr(n) be the number of edges of the r-partite Turán graph of order n, we prove that:For all r≥2 and all sufficiently small c>0, every graph of sufficiently large order n with tr(n)+1 edges contains a .We also give a corresponding stability theorem and two supporting results of wider scope.  相似文献

Let m(n,k,r,t) be the maximum size of satisfying |F1∩?∩Fr|≥t for all F1,…,FrF. We prove that for every p∈(0,1) there is some r0 such that, for all r>r0 and all t with 1≤t≤⌊(p1−rp)/(1−p)⌋−r, there exists n0 so that if n>n0 and p=k/n, then . The upper bound for t is tight for fixed p and r.  相似文献

Given a finite set E and a family F={E1,…,Em} of subsets of E such that F covers E, the famous unicost set covering problem (USCP) is to determine the smallest possible subset of F that also covers E. We study in this paper a variant, called the Large Set Covering Problem (LSCP), which differs from the USCP in that E and the subsets Ei are not given in extension because they are very large sets that are possibly infinite. We propose three exact algorithms for solving the LSCP. Two of them determine minimal covers, while the third one produces minimum covers. Heuristic versions of these algorithms are also proposed and analysed. We then give several procedures for the computation of a lower bound on the minimum size of a cover. We finally present algorithms for finding the largest possible subset of F that does not cover E. We also show that a particular case of the LSCP is to determine irreducible infeasible sets in inconsistent constraint satisfaction problems. All concepts presented in the paper are illustrated on the k-colouring problem which is formulated as a constraint satisfaction problem.  相似文献

Riesz transforms and conjugate Poisson integrals for multi-dimensional Laguerre function expansions of Hermite type with index α are defined and investigated. It is proved that for any multi-index α=(α1,…,αd) such that αi?−1/2, αi∉(−1/2,1/2), the appropriately defined Riesz transforms , j=1,2,…,d, are Calderón-Zygmund operators, hence their mapping properties follow from a general theory. Similar mapping results are obtained in one dimension, without excluding α∈(−1/2,1/2), by means of a local Calderón-Zygmund theory and weighted Hardy's inequalities. The conjugate Poisson integrals are shown to satisfy a system of Cauchy-Riemann type equations and to recover the Riesz-Laguerre transforms on the boundary. The two specific values of α, (−1/2,…,−1/2) and (1/2,…,1/2), are distinguished since then a connection with Riesz transforms for multi-dimensional Hermite function expansions is established.  相似文献

Recently, Sloane suggested the following problem: We are given n boxes, labeled 1,2,…,n. For i=1,…,n, box i weighs (m-1)i grams (where m?2 is a fixed integer) and box i can support a total weight of i grams. What is the number of different ways to build a single stack of boxes in which no box will be squashed by the weight of the boxes above it? Prior to this generalized problem, Sloane and Sellers solved the case m=2. More recently, Andrews and Sellers solved the case m?3. In this note we give new and simple proofs of the results of Sloane and Sellers and of Andrews and Sellers, using a known connection with m-ary partitions.  相似文献

The existence of graph designs for the two nonisomorphic graphs on five vertices and eight edges is determined in the case of index one, with three possible exceptions in total. It is established that for the unique graph with vertex sequence (3, 3, 3, 3, 4), a graph design of order n exists exactly when and n≠16, with the possible exception of n=48. For the unique graph with vertex sequence (2,3,3,4,4), a graph design of order n exists exactly when , with the possible exceptions of n∈{32,48}.  相似文献

A path bundle is a set of 2a paths in an n-cube, denoted Qn, such that every path has the same length, the paths partition the vertices of Qn, the endpoints of the paths induce two subcubes of Qn, and the endpoints of each path are complements. This paper shows that a path bundle exists if and only if n>0 is odd and 0?a?n-⌈log2(n+1)⌉.  相似文献

An r-graph is a loopless undirected graph in which no two vertices are joined by more than r edges. An r-complete graph on m+1 vertices, denoted by , is an r-graph on m+1 vertices in which each pair of vertices is joined by exactly r edges. A non-increasing sequence π=(d1,d2,…,dn) of nonnegative integers is r-graphic if it is realizable by an r-graph on n vertices. Let be the smallest even integer such that each n-term r-graphic sequence with term sum of at least is realizable by an r-graph containing as a subgraph. In this paper, we determine the value of for sufficiently large n, which generalizes a conjecture due to Erd?s, Jacobson and Lehel.  相似文献

All continuous endomorphisms f of the shift dynamical system S on the 2-adic integers Z2 are induced by some , where n is a positive integer, Bn is the set of n-blocks over {0, 1}, and f(x)=y0y1y2… where for all iN, yi=f(xixi+1xi+n−1). Define D:Z2Z2 to be the endomorphism of S induced by the map {(00,0),(01,1),(10,1),(11,0)} and V:Z2Z2 by V(x)=−1−x. We prove that D, V°D, S, and V°S are conjugate to S and are the only continuous endomorphisms of S whose parity vector function is solenoidal. We investigate the properties of D as a dynamical system, and use D to construct a conjugacy from the 3x+1 function T:Z2Z2 to a parity-neutral dynamical system. We also construct a conjugacy R from D to T. We apply these results to establish that, in order to prove the 3x+1 conjecture, it suffices to show that for any mZ+, there exists some nN such that R−1(m) has binary representation of the form or .  相似文献

We investigate crossing minimization problems for a set of permutations, where a crossing expresses a disarrangement between elements. The goal is a common permutation π which minimizes the number of crossings. In voting and social science theory this is known as the Kemeny optimal aggregation problem minimizing the Kendall-τ distance. This rank aggregation problem can be phrased as a one-sided two-layer crossing minimization problem for a series of bipartite graphs or for an edge coloured bipartite graph, where crossings are counted only for monochromatic edges. We contribute the max version of the crossing minimization problem, which attempts to minimize the discrimination against any permutation. As our results, we correct the construction from [C. Dwork, R. Kumar, M. Noar, D. Sivakumar, Rank aggregation methods for the Web, Proc. WWW10 (2001) 613-622] and prove the NP-hardness of the common crossing minimization problem for k=4 permutations. Then we establish a 2−2/k-approximation, improving the previous factor of 2. The max version is shown NP-hard for every k≥4, and there is a 2-approximation. Both approximations are optimal, if the common permutation is selected from the given ones. For two permutations crossing minimization is solved by inspecting the drawings, whereas it remains open for three permutations.  相似文献

We observe that the classical Faulhaber’s theorem on sums of odd powers also holds for an arbitrary arithmetic progression, namely, the odd power sums of any arithmetic progression a+b,a+2b,…,a+nb is a polynomial in na+n(n+1)b/2. While this assertion can be deduced from the original Fauhalber’s theorem, we give an alternative formula in terms of the Bernoulli polynomials. Moreover, by utilizing the central factorial numbers as in the approach of Knuth, we derive formulas for r-fold sums of powers without resorting to the notion of r-reflective functions. We also provide formulas for the r-fold alternating sums of powers in terms of Euler polynomials.  相似文献

For a positive integer k, a k-packing in a graph G is a subset A of vertices such that the distance between any two distinct vertices from A is more than k. The packing chromatic number of G is the smallest integer m such that the vertex set of G can be partitioned as V1,V2,…,Vm where Vi is an i-packing for each i. It is proved that the planar triangular lattice T and the three-dimensional integer lattice Z3 do not have finite packing chromatic numbers.  相似文献

Given a graph G, a function f:V(G)→{1,2,…,k} is a k-ranking of G if f(u)=f(v) implies every u-v path contains a vertex w such that f(w)>f(u). A k-ranking is minimal if the reduction of any label greater than 1 violates the described ranking property. The arank number of a graph, denoted ψr(G), is the largest k such that G has a minimal k-ranking. We present new results involving minimal k-rankings of paths. In particular, we determine ψr(Pn), a problem posed by Laskar and Pillone in 2000.  相似文献

A sequence 〈d1,d2,…,dn〉 of non-negative integers is graphical if it is the degree sequence of some graph, that is, there exists a graph G on n vertices whose ith vertex has degree di, for 1≤in. The notion of a graphical sequence has a natural reformulation and generalization in terms of factors of complete graphs. If H=(V,E) is a graph and g and f are integer-valued functions on the vertex set V, then a (g,f)-factor of H is a subgraph G=(V,F) of H whose degree at each vertex vV lies in the interval [g(v),f(v)]. Thus, a (0,1)-factor is just a matching of H and a (1, 1)-factor is a perfect matching of H. If H is complete then a (g,f)-factor realizes a degree sequence that is consistent with the sequence of intervals 〈[g(v1),f(v1)],[g(v2),f(v2)],…,[g(vn),f(vn)]〉.Graphical sequences have been extensively studied and admit several elegant characterizations. We are interested in extending these characterizations to non-graphical sequences by introducing a natural measure of “near-graphical”. We do this in the context of minimally deficient (g,f)-factors of complete graphs. Our main result is a simple linear-time greedy algorithm for constructing minimally deficient (g,f)-factors in complete graphs that generalizes the method of Hakimi and Havel (for constructing (f,f)-factors in complete graphs, when possible). It has the added advantage of producing a certificate of minimum deficiency (through a generalization of the Erdös-Gallai characterization of (f,f)-factors in complete graphs) at no additional cost.  相似文献

For aj,bj?1, j=1,2,…,d, we prove that the operator maps into itself for , where , and k(x,y)=φ(x,y)eig(x,y), φ(x,y) satisfies (1.2) (e.g. φ(x,y)=|xy|iτ,τ real) and the phase g(x,y)=xayb. We study operators with more general phases and for these operators we require that aj,bj>1, j=1,2,…,d, or al=bl?1 for some l∈{1,2,…,d}.  相似文献

A (d,1)-total labelling of a graph G assigns integers to the vertices and edges of G such that adjacent vertices receive distinct labels, adjacent edges receive distinct labels, and a vertex and its incident edges receive labels that differ in absolute value by at least d. The span of a (d,1)-total labelling is the maximum difference between two labels. The (d,1)-total number, denoted , is defined to be the least span among all (d,1)-total labellings of G. We prove new upper bounds for , compute some for complete bipartite graphs Km,n, and completely determine all for d=1,2,3. We also propose a conjecture on an upper bound for in terms of the chromatic number and the chromatic index of G.  相似文献

We introduce a frame cellular automaton as a broad generalization of an earlier study on quasigroup-defined cellular automata. It consists of a triple (F,R,EF) where, for a given finite set X of cells, the frame F is a family of subsets of X (called elementary frames, denoted Si, i=1,…,n), which is a cover of X. A matching configuration is a map which attributes to each cell a state in a finite set G under restriction of a set of local rules R={Rii=1,…n}, where Ri holds in the elementary frame Si and is determined by an (|Si|-1)-ary quasigroup over G. The frame associated map EF models how a matching configuration can be grown iteratively from a certain initial cell-set. General properties of frames and related matroids are investigated. A generating set SX is a set of cells such that there is a bijection between the collection of matching configurations and GS. It is shown that for certain frames, the algebraically defined generating sets are bases of a related geometric-combinatorially defined matroid.  相似文献
