The initial stage of the development of a wall jet under the influence of strong external turbulence has been studied in a novel shear-flow mixing-box experiment. A fully developed channel flow of depth h (40 mm) enters along the top wall of a cuboidal box of height 11 h in which a combination of oscillatory and turbulent velocity fluctuations are generated by a vertical oscillating grid at the midplane 5 h below the wall. When the ratio of the rms grid-generated velocity fluctuations, , to the local mean velocity inside the wall jet layer, u, is greater than about 0.1, significant changes are observed in the mean shear profile and in the eddy structure of the wall jet. The wall jet thickness increases by approximately 25% but the maximum velocity decreases by less than 10% compared to the case without the external turbulence. Fluctuations of the streamwise velocity component increase as expected in the outer part of the wall jet, but the most significant result is the increase by 70% of the fluctuations in the boundary layer close to the wall. CFD simulations using the k-ɛ RNG of the FLUENT CFD Code do not properly model the effect of the large scale external turbulence in this experiment. However, an artificial method, which introduces a series of small inlet/outlet jets to represent external turbulence, approximately simulates the overall effects of the oscillating grid on the wall jet, but does not simulate the amplification of the near wall turbulence. Experimental results of the mixing characteristics of a low-frequency flapping jet from a self-exciting nozzle are presented. The simple fluidic device used to generate the flapping motion is also described. The nozzle contains no external trigger and, unlike the flip-flop nozzle of Viets, contains no external feedback path. Both conventional and conditional averaging schemes are employed to characterise the turbulent mixing characteristics of the jet using data obtained from hot-wire anemometry. Flow-visualisation is used to characterise the flapping motion. It is revealed that the dynamic flapping motion enhances the large-scale mixing of the jet while concurrently suppressing the generation of the fine-scale turbulence. The results also indicate that high turbulence intensities, initiated by the flapping motion, are sustained even in the far-field flow region. The results of an experimental study of the effects of different nozzle heads on turbulent jet noise are analyzed. A configuration of four cylindrical heads, tabbed heads, and chevron nozzles are considered and the decreases in the acoustic-mechanical efficiency of the jet (acoustic power reduction) for jets exposed to different modes of action are compared.It is shown that the effects of tabbed and cylindrical heads, as well as of chevrons, share a common property which is associated with the occurrence of vorticity in the jet source and can be described on the basis of a unified criterion characterizing the action on both the jet flow structure and the jet noise.  相似文献

The flow in a convergent nozzle equipped with chevrons and the flow around the chevrons are numerically simulated and studied on the basis of the numerical integration of the system of Reynolds equations closed by a differential model for the turbulent viscosity. From the calculated results, the flow pattern, the action of the chevrons on the flow, the circulation generated, and the values of the parameters characterizing the streamwise vorticity are determined. The results of calculations of the thrust and flow-rate characteristics of nozzles equipped with chevrons are presented. 为研究小口径喷嘴冲击射流的噪声特性,测定了3mm口径的轴对称收缩喷嘴在各种压比情况下产生的亚音速和超音速射流冲击坚固大平板产生的噪声。发现噪声在空间呈近似四瓣分布,当喷嘴与平板距离减小时,噪声指向壁射流下游的瓣到增强,反之,噪声指向喷嘴上游的瓣得到增强。噪声随喷嘴距平板距离的增加呈增强的趋势,在距平板一定距离内有锯齿现象。噪声随喷嘴压比的增加而增强,相应于各种工况,存在一不同的压比值,此压比之前,噪声随压比的增大而迅速提高,但有起伏现象,在此压比之后,噪声平缓地随压比的增大而增强。  相似文献

Experimental investigations of the influence of streamwise streaky structures on turbulization of a circular laminar jet are described. The qualitative characteristics of jet evolution are studied by smoke visualization of the flow pattern in the jet and by filming the transverse and longitudinal sections of the jet illuminated by the laser sheet with image stroboscopy. It is shown that the streaky structures can be generated directly at the nozzle exit, and their interaction with the Kelvin–Helmholtz ring vortices leads to emergence of azimuthal beams ( structures) by a mechanism similar to threedimensional distortion of the twodimensional Tollmien–Schlichting wave at the nonlinear stage of the classical transition in nearwall flows. The effect of the jetexhaustion velocity and acoustic action on jet turbulization is considered.  相似文献

This paper gives results of two experiments in which warmer water in the form of a vertical plane jet was let into colder water. In one experiment, the temperature of inflowing and initially quiescent water exceeded 4°C and warm water propagated only along the free surface. In the other experiment, the temperature of inflowing water was above 4°C and that of quiescent water was below 4°C. An assessment of the influence of strong combustion-driven oscillations on mixing rates and visible radiation in the flame from a full-scale refinery flare is reported. Importantly, the oscillations were generated naturally, with no external forcing, and at a high Reynolds number of 4 × 106. These conditions differentiate this study from those of previous investigations, which all involved some external forcing and were at a Re too low to ensure fully turbulent flow within the flame. A frame-by-frame analysis of video footage, providing good resolution of the instantaneous edge of each flame, was used to assess flame dimensions, and so to determine a global residence time. Since the flames are in the fast-chemistry regime, the visual imagers can be used to determine a global mixing rate. The analysis reveals a consistent picture that the combustion-driven oscillations do not result in a significant change to the global mixing rate, but do increase the visible radiation. This is in contrast to previous investigations, using externally forced jets, where forcing at the preferred mode has been found to increase mixing rates and reduce radiation.  相似文献

对某聚能装药射流侵彻靶板的过程进行了数值模拟 ,得出其碰撞点附近应力分布与传统理论相符 ,侵彻深度与实验结果及工程计算结果基本相符 ;分别对该聚能装药侵彻连续靶和间隔靶的过程进行了数值模拟 ,数值模拟结果显示间隔靶的侵彻深度明显低于连续靶的侵彻深度 ,这说明侵彻开坑阶段的能耗侵深比远大于准定常阶段。为了验证间隔靶对射流侵彻的影响 ,用另一聚能装药分别对连续靶和间隔靶进行了侵彻实验 ,并排除了炸高的影响。实验结果也表明 ,间隔靶对射流侵彻的确存在着不利影响。还结合数值模拟及实验结果对传统的侵彻公式进行了修正。  相似文献

Axisymmetric geometries can be found in many practical flow applications. In the attempt to predict these flows numerically, RANS flow solvers can decrease the computational efforts dramatically by taking this axisymmetry into account and by computing only a pie-segment of the flow. However, the extension of the concept of axisymmetric flows to LES computations is not straightforward, since the boundary conditions on the axis of symmetry are altering the instantaneous flow field. In this study, the influence of the introduction of an axis of symmetry to LES computations is assessed by computations of a flow with and without swirl over an axisymmetric expansion. The LES computations are performed on a full three-dimensional and a 90° segment of the geometry. The results are compared and the influence of the axis put into relation with the gain in computational costs.  相似文献

Turbulent droplet-laden flow downstream of a sudden pipe expansion is numerically studied using an Eulerian two-fluid model. The model is used to investigate the effect of droplet evaporation on the particle dispersion and on the gas phase turbulence modification. Turbulence suppression in the case of evaporating droplets is hardly observed near the wall, and the level of turbulence tends to the corresponding value for the single-phase flow regime. In the flow core, where evaporation is insignificant, a decrease in the level of gas turbulence (to 20 % as compared to a single-phase flow) can be observed. The maximal effect of droplet evaporation is obtained in the wall region of the tube. A considerable increase in the maximal value of heat exchange on adding the evaporating droplets to the separated flow is shown (more than 1.5-fold as compared to the single-phase flow at a small value of droplet mass concentration of M L1≤ 0.05). The addition of the solid non-evaporating particles causes a slight increase in the maximum value of heat transfer in the case of small particles and a decrease in heat transfer in the case of large particles.  相似文献

建立导电射流在径向电场作用下的线性稳定性粘性模型,通过正则模方法,推导了轴对称和非轴对称模态下的色散关系,通过计算求得增长率随波数及电欧拉数的变化,并在理论上预测了最有可能波长.选用酒精和酒精甘油混合物作实验液体,观察了径向电场对射流不稳定性行为的影响规律,并测量射流表面波的波长.实验结果和理论结果在定性方面取得了较好的一致.但通过与实验比较,理论预测的最有可能波长在非轴对称模态出现较大偏差,普遍比实验结果小.而且,实验表明,最大增长率并不是判断主导模态的好标准,因为在非轴对称的最大增长率小于轴对称的最大增长率情况下,实验显示非轴对称模态要比轴对称模态明显了.因此,对于非轴对称的不稳定机理,需要进一步研究.对轴对称模态,理论给出了较好的预测.  相似文献

Jet impingement onto a hole with elevated wall temperature can be associated with the high‐temperature thermal drilling, where the gas jet is used for shielding the hole wall from the high‐temperature oxidation reactions as observed in the case of laser drilling. In laser processing, the molten flow from the hole wall occurs; and in the model study, the hole wall velocity resembling the molten flow should be accounted for. In the present study, gas jet impingement onto tapered hole with elevated temperature is considered and the heat transfer rates as well as skin friction at the hole wall surface are predicted. The velocity of molten flow from the hole wall determined from the previous study is adopted in the simulations and the effect of hole wall velocity on the heat transfer rates and skin friction is also examined. It is found that the Nusselt number and skin friction at the hole wall in the regions of hole inlet and exit attain high values. The influence of hole wall velocity on the Nusselt number and skin friction is found not to be very significant. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Laminar free convection heat transfer from two vertical arrays of five isothermal cylinders separated by flow diverters is studied experimentally using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The width of flow diverters is kept constant to two-cylinder diameters and the cylinders vertical center-to-center spacing is equal to three-cylinder diameter. Effect of the ratio of the horizontal spacing between two cylinder arrays to their diameter (Sh/D) on heat transfer from the cylinders is investigated for various Rayleigh numbers. The experiments are performed for Sh/D = 2-4, and the Rayleigh number based on the cylinder diameter ranging from 103 to 3 × 103. It is observed that for small Sh/D ratios, the flow diverters have a negative effect on the total rate of heat transfer from the arrays; while by increasing the horizontal center to center spacing, they tend to enhance the overall cooling rate of the array. Moreover, increasing Ra and Sh/D generally results in a higher average Nusselt number for each cylinder in the array.  相似文献

In this study a modified version of v2-f turbulence model (φ-α), is applied to simulate a non-isothermal air-flow. The φ-α model and a two-phase Eulerian approach complement each other to predict the rate of particle deposition on a tilted surface. The φ-α model can accurately calculate the normal fluctuations, which mainly represent the non-isotropic nature of turbulence regime near the wall. The Eulerian model was modified considering the most important mechanism in the particle deposition rate when compared to the experimental data. The model performance is examined by comparing the rate of particle deposition on a vertical surface with the experimental data in a turbulent channel flow available in the literature. The effects of lift force, turbophoretic force, thermophoreric force, electrostatic force, gravitational force and Brownian/turbulent diffusion were examined on the particle deposition rate. The results show that, using the φ-α model predicts the rate of deposition with reasonable accuracy. The results of modified particle model are in good agreement with the experimental data. This study highlights the paramount effect of thermophoretic force on the particle deposition rate and clearly shows that when the temperature difference exceeds a certain limit, the electrostatic force has insignificant effect on the particle deposition rate. Furthermore, it is indicated that even at small temperature differences, the effect of tilt angle on the particle deposition rate for intermediate-size particles is negligible.  相似文献

The problem of gas recovery in the process of methane hydrate dissociation in a reservoir saturated with gas-hydrate mixture is considered. The mathematical model of hydrate decomposition into gas and water is generalized to include the negative temperature interval and takes ice formation into account. The solution of the problem is represented in the self-similar approximation. It is shown that there exists a transition hydrate decomposition regime in which water and ice are formed simultaneously. A comparative analysis of the recovery is carried out on the basis of relations derived for the masses of recovered gas in different hydrate dissociation regimes. This paper describes a preliminary numerical analysis of the effect of duct velocity profile and buoyancy‐induced flow generated by the heat source on hydrodynamic removal of contaminants contained in cavities. The process of fluid renewal in a cavity is modelled via a numerical solution of the Navier–Stokes equations coupled with the energy equation for transient flows. The foulant has the same density as the fluid in the duct and the duct velocity profile is considered to be Poiseuille flow and Couette flow, respectively. The results show that the change in Grashof number and duct flow velocity profile causes a dramatic difference in the observed flow patterns and cleaning efficiency. From a cleaning perspective, the results suggest that Couette flow at higher value of Grashof number becomes more effective in further purging of contaminated fluid from a cavity. This paper investigates the effect of non-uniform temperature gradient and magnetic field on Marangoni convection in a horizontal fluid layer heated from below and cooled from above with a constant heat flux. A linear stability analysis is performed. The influence of various parameters on the convection onset is analyzed. Six non-uniform basic temperature profiles are considered, and some general conclusions about their desta- bilizing effects are presented.  相似文献
