A finite size effect in the probing of the harmonic measure in simulation of diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) growth is investigated. We introduce a variable size of probe particles, to estimate harmonic measure and extract the fractal dimension of DLA clusters taking two limits, of vanishingly small probe particle size and of infinitely large size of a DLA cluster. We generate 1000 DLA clusters consisting of 50 million particles each, using an off-lattice killing-free algorithm developed in the early work. The introduced method leads to unprecedented accuracy in the estimation of the fractal dimension. We discuss the variation of the probability distribution function with the size of probing particles.  相似文献

Fractal Aggregation Under Rotation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
By means of the Monte Carlo simulation, a fractal growth model is introduced to describe diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) under rotation. Patterns which are different from the classical DLA model are observed and the fractal dimension of such clusters is calculated. It is found that the pattern of the clusters and their fractal dimension depend strongly on the rotation velocity of the diffusing particle. Our results indicate the transition from fractal to non-fractal behavior of growing cluster with increasing rotation velocity, i.e. for small enough angular velocity ω; thefractal dimension decreases with increasing ω;, but then, with increasing rotation velocity, the fractal dimension increases and the cluster becomes compact and tends to non-fractal.  相似文献

In this work, we first formulate the Tsallis entropy in the context of complex networks. We then propose a network construction whose topology maximizes the Tsallis entropy. The growing network model has two main ingredients: copy process and random attachment mechanism (C-R model). We show that the resulting degree distribution exactly agrees with the required degree distribution that maximizes the Tsallis entropy. We also provide another example of network model using a combination of preferential and random attachment mechanisms (P-R model) and compare it with the distribution of the Tsallis entropy. In this case, we show that by adequately identifying the exponent factor q, the degree distribution can also be written in the q-exponential form. Taken together, our findings suggest that both mechanisms, copy process and preferential attachment, play a key role for the realization of networks with maximum Tsallis entropy. Finally, we discuss the interpretation of q parameter of the Tsallis entropy in the context of complex networks.  相似文献

The surface of amorphous films deposited in the T-10 tokamak was studied in a scanning tunnel microscope. The surface relief on a scale from 10 nm to 100 μm showed a stochastic surface topography and revealed a hierarchy of grains. The observed variety of irregular structures of the films was studied within the framework of the concept of scale invariance using the methods of fractal geometry and statistical physics. The experimental probability density distribution functions of the surface height variations are close in shape to the Cauchy distribution. The stochastic surface topography of the films is characterized by a Hurst parameter of H = 0.68–0.85, which is evidence of a nontrivial self-similarity of the film structure. The fractal character and porous structure of deposited irregular films must be considered as an important issue related to the accumulation of tritium in the ITER project. The process of film growth on the surface of tokamak components exposed to plasma has been treated within the framework of the general concept of inhomogeneous surface growth. A strong turbulence of the edge plasma in tokamaks can give rise to fluctuations in the incident flux of particles, which leads to the growth of fractal films with grain dimensions ranging from nano-to micrometer scale. The shape of the surface of some films found in the T-10 tokamak has been interpreted using a model of diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA). The growth of films according to the discrete DLA model was simulated using statistics of fluctuations observed in a turbulent edge plasma of the T-10 tokamak. The modified DLA model reproduces well the main features of the surface of some films deposited in tokamaks.  相似文献

Real networks can be classified into two categories: fractal networks and non-fractal networks. Here we introduce a unifying model for the two types of networks. Our model network is governed by a parameter q. We obtain the topological properties of the network including the degree distribution, average path length, diameter, fractal dimensions, and betweenness centrality distribution, which are controlled by parameter q. Interestingly, we show that by adjusting q, the networks undergo a transition from fractal to non-fractal scalings, and exhibit a crossover from ‘large’ to small worlds at the same time. Our research may shed some light on understanding the evolution and relationships of fractal and non-fractal networks.  相似文献

Several models based on the diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) model were proposed and their scaling properties explored by computational and theoretical approaches. In this paper, we consider a new extension of the on-lattice DLA model in which the unitary random steps are replaced by random flights of fixed length. This procedure reduces the screening for particle penetration present in the original DLA model and, consequently, generates new pattern classes. The patterns have DLA-like scaling properties at small length of the random flights. However, as the flight size increases, the patterns are initially round and compact but become fractal for sufficiently large clusters. Their radius of gyration and number of particles at the cluster surface scale asymptotically as in the original DLA model. The transition between compact and fractal patterns is characterized by wavelength selection, and 1/k noise was observed far from the transition.Received: 2 March 2004, Published online: 14 December 2004PACS: 05.40.Fb Random walks and Levy flights - 05.50. + q Lattice theory and statistics (Ising, Potts, etc.) - 05.10.Ln Monte Carlo methods  相似文献

SIMULATION OF FRACTAL GROWTH OF THIN FILMS AT LOW TEMPERATURE   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
Fractal growth of thin films at low temperature (50-175 K) is simulated by Monte Carlo method. It is shown that the thin film growth is quite different from the diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) model when the coverage is larger than 0.1 ML. The average branch width of clusters increases with increasing temperature and it usually larger than the branch width (1.9 atom) in the classic DLA model. The average fractal dimension of clusters increases also with increasing coverage while the fractal dimension of DLA model remains constant. This difference comes from the weak screening effect during the late stage of thin film growth. The relationship between the saturation island number ns and deposition interval Δt is described in a power law: ns∝Δtγ, where γ=-0.332 is very close to the theoretical value -1/3 of rate equations from nucleation theory.  相似文献

We have studied the structure of annealed two-dimensional diffusion-limited aggregates (DLA). The annealing process consists of introducing internal flexibility to the original DLA rigid structure as well as excluded volume interactions between particles. From extensive Monte Carlo simulations we obtained aggregates with fractal dimension slightly higher than that obtained for two-dimensional DLA structures. This is somehow surprising since the fractal dimension of the annealed structure is determined not only by connectivity but also by the competing effects of excluded volume interactions and configurational entropy, whilst in the rigid DLA only diffusion counts for the fractal-dimension value.  相似文献

We consider a conformal theory of fractal growth patterns in two dimensions, including diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) as a particular case. In this theory the fractal dimension of the asymptotic cluster manifests itself as a dynamical exponent observable already at very early growth stages. Using a renormalization relation we show from early stage dynamics that the dimension D of DLA can be estimated, 1.69相似文献

We numerically simulate the dynamics of atomic clusters aggregation deposited on a surface interacting with the growing island. We make use of the well-known DLA model but replace the underlying diffusion equation by the Smoluchowski equation which results in a drifted DLA model and anisotropic jump probabilities. The shape of the structures resulting from their aggregation-limited random walk is affected by the presence of a Laplacian potential due to, for instance, the surface stress field. We characterize the morphologies we obtain by their Hausdorff fractal dimension as well as the so-called external fractal dimension. We compare our results to previously published experimental results for antimony and silver clusters deposited onto graphite surface.  相似文献

We present a self-consistent picture of diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) growth based on the assumption that the probability density P(r,N) for the next particle to be attached within the distance r to the center of the cluster is expressible in the scale-invariant form P[r/R{dep}(N)]. It follows from this assumption that there is no multiscaling issue in DLA and there is only a single fractal dimension D for all length scales. We check our assumption self-consistently by calculating the particle-density distribution with a measured P(r/R{dep}) function on an ensemble with 1000 clusters of 5×10{7} particles each. We also show that a nontrivial multiscaling function D(x) can be obtained only when small clusters (N<10?000) are used to calculate D(x). Hence, multiscaling is a finite-size effect and is not intrinsic to DLA.  相似文献

Diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) assumes that particles perform pure random walk at a finite temperature and aggregate when they come close enough and stick together. Although it is well known that DLA in two dimensions results in a ramified fractal structure, how the particle shape influences the formed morphology is still unclear. In this work, we perform the off-lattice two-dimensional DLA simulations with different particle shapes of triangle, quadrangle, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon, respectively, and compare with the results for circular particles. Our results indicate that different particle shapes only change the local structure, but have no effects on the global structure of the formed fractal cluster. The local compactness decreases as the number of polygon edges increases.  相似文献

Growth of TiN films at low temperature   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
L.I. Wei 《Applied Surface Science》2007,253(17):7019-7023
Thermodynamic analysis on growth of TiN films was given. The driving force for deposition of TiN is dependent on original Ti(g)/N(g) ratio and original partial pressure of N(g). TiN films were deposited by ion beam assisted electron beam evaporation system under suitable nitrogen gas flow rate at 523 K while the density of plasma varied with diverse discharge pressure had been investigated by the Langmuir probe. TiN films were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared absorption spectrum (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and observed by means of atom force microscopy (AFM). The results of these measurements indicated preferential TiN(1 1 1) films were deposited on substrate of Si(1 0 0) and glass by ion beam assisted electron beam evaporation system at low temperature, and it was possible for the deposition of TiN films with a preferential orientation or more orientations if the nitrogen gas flow rate increased enough. Sand Box was used to characterize the fractal dimension of surface of TiN films. The results showed the fractal dimension was a little more than 1.7, which accorded with the model of diffusion limited aggregation (DLA), and the fractal dimension of TiN films increased with increase of the temperature of deposition.  相似文献

Fractal Analysis of Surface Roughness of Particles in Porous Media   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1       下载免费PDF全文
A fractal dimension for roughness height (RH) is introduced to characterize the degree of roughness or disorder of particle surface characters which significantly influence physical-chimerical processes in porous media. An analytical expression for the fractal dimension of RH on statistically self-similar fractal surfaces is derived and is expressed as a function of roughness parameters. The specific surface area (SSA) of porous materials with spherical particles is also derived, and the proposed fractal model for the SSA of particles with rough surfaces is expressed as a function of fractal dimension for RH and fractal dimension for particle size distribution, relative roughness of particle surface, and ratio of the minimum to the maximum particle diameters of spherical particles.  相似文献

In this papel, we present two fractal aggregation models, line pattern seed model (model 1) and point pattern seed model (model 2), which are particle-cluster models. Using the current models, we investigate the critical transition in fractal aggregation processes in two dimensions, and suggest a method for finding the critical transition point. The computer simulation results show that the critical concentration is Pca=0.69±0.02 for model 1 and Pca=0.72±0.01 for model 2, critical fractal dimension. Dc= 1.71±0.06 for model 1 and Dc=1.66±0.07 for model 2, which are in good agreement with those of DLA model (D=5/3) and experimental data. The results also show that the critical transition point in two dimensions seems to be inilependent of the size of lattices and the initial seed patterns. The results seem to belong to the same universality class.  相似文献

Cluster assembled selenium oxide (SeO2) thin films, as a function of oxygen flow pressure (OFP) have been synthesized by a low energy cluster beam deposition (LECBD) technique. The OFP dependent surface morphology leading to well separated nanoclusters (size ranging from 50 to 200 nm) and fractal features are confirmed from transmission electron microscopic (TEM) measurements. A diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) mediated fractal growth with dimension as 1.71 ± 0.01 has been observed for high OFP (60 mbar). Structural analysis by glancing angle X-ray diffraction (GXRD) and selected area diffraction (SAD) studies identify the presence of tetragonal phase SeO2 in the deposit. Micro-Raman studies indicate the shifts in bending and stretching vibrational phonon modes in cluster assembled SeO2 as compared to their bulk counter part due to the phonon confinement effect.  相似文献
