We theoretically investigate the control of surface plasmon polariton(SPP) generated at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium under Kerr nonlinearity. The controlled Kerr nonlinear signal of probe light beam in a dielectric medium is used to generate SPPs at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium. The positive, negative absorption, and dispersion properties of SPPs are modified and controlled by the control and Kerr fields. A large amplification(negative absorption) is noted for SPPs under the Kerr nonlinearity. The normal/anomalous slope of dispersion and propagation length of SPPs is modified and controlled with Kerr nonlinearity. This leads to significant variation in slow and fast SPP propagation. The controlled slow and fast SPP propagation may predict significant applications in nano-photonics, optical tweezers, photovoltaic devices, plasmonster, and sensing technology. 相似文献

Dynamic Kerr effect and dielectric relaxation measurements were carried out for lysozyme at pH 4.7 and pH 7.7. From high dilution measurements we compute the shape of hydrodynamically equivalent ellipsoïd. Relaxation times corrected for viscosity effect are temperature dependent : this implies slight molecular shape variation. Denatured lysozyme relaxation is also observed before transition temperature. 相似文献

For L10-FePt films with strong perpendicular anisotropy covered by arrays of hexagonal close-packed polystyrene spheres(PSSs),fine structures are observed in magneto-optical Kerr rotation spectra in the visible spectral range.The reflection minima are found to be located at the same wavelengths as the Kerr rotation peaks.The Kerr rotation enhancement is attributed to the excitation of both the surface plasmon polariton in the dielectric PSS/metal interface and the guide waves(guide mode)in the PSS array.The two-dimensional PSSs/SiO2/FePt system exhibiting a tunable magneto-optical Kerr effect and a high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy will be helpful for designing and fabricating magneto-optics devices. 相似文献

The optimum parameters of a dielectric layer near the substrate in the interference multilayer structure are calculated. The calculations showed that this layer should have the index of refraction n∼3. The results are presented of measuring the Kerr angle of magnetooptical rotation in the multilayer structure, in which GeO films were used as dielectric layers for the first time. The maximum Kerr angle of rotation and magnetooptical quality observed in this system were 0.75° and 0.34°, respectively. These values exceed those inherent in the known information carriers, which demonstrates the advantage of this structure for use in magnetooptical discs. 相似文献

Owing to the enormously enhanced oscillating wave, a minute variation of the incident light intensity will give rise to a change in the dielectric constant of the Kerr nonlinear medium and lead to a bistable reflection with an ultra-low threshold intensity, which is closely related to the angle of incidence and the thickness of the Kerr nonlinear medium. The criterion for the existence of optical bistability is derived. Our bistability scheme is simple and not limited to the TM-polarization. 相似文献

A Kerr nonlinear medium consisting of an aqueous suspension of dielectric nanoparticles is used for the observation of continuous self-focusing of laser light. The minimum width of the soliton-like beam is measured in relation to the radiation power and the particle concentration. applied to the laser beam propagation in step-index profile as well as parabolic profile dielectric fibers with Kerr non-linearity.
Considering self-action due to saturating and non-saturating non-linearity in the refractive index, a general theory has been
developed without any kind of power series expansion for the dielectric constant as is usually done in other theories that

The dielectric alignment of a dilute non-polar component in a polar solvent may be determined by NMR spectroscopy. In this paper a series expansion of the alignment up to second order terms in the dipolar interaction is presented for a non-polar molecule replacing a single polar molecule in a rigid lattice of molecular dipoles. Assuming isotropic polarizabilities for all molecules Van Vleck earlier applied the lattice model in a theory of the dielectric constant of a dilute solution.In the present calculation the polarizabilities of the non-polar molecule and the dipoles are assumed to be anisotropic and isotropic, respectively. The anisotropy of the non-polar molecule is relevant, since the value of the alignment is zero for the isotropic case. Different results are obtained for cubic lattices and for a lattice points are uniformly distributed.In absence of a rigid dipole moment of the solvent molecules the latter formula may be compared with that implicity deduced by Buckingham for the Kerr effect. In the limit of strong dipoles the orientation imposed by the rigid dipole moments appears to be the major contribution to the alignment of the non-polar molecule. 相似文献

In this paper, we explore transverse electric surface waves propagating along the crystal with jump change of Kerr nonlinearity in dependence on field amplitude. The dielectric permittivity in the proposed model of nonlinearity is characterized by abruptly changing unperturbed dielectric constant and Kerr nonlinearity coefficient from one value to another when field amplitude exceeds the threshold value of the switching field. This allows to find exact solutions of model equations in different cases of nonlinearity signs, and to obtain the dependence of wave characteristics, including total power flux, on effective refractive index in explicit form. Such solutions describe two new types of nonlinear surface waves with specific structure depending on electric field amplitude. We derive the conditions of surface domain formation. It is found that the largest percentage of radiation is concentrated within the domain. 相似文献

The anisotropy of the refractive index and of the dielectric constant for cyanobiphenyl homologous compounds has been measured. We present a novel theory of surface plasmon polariton interaction on the surface of dielectric with saturable Kerr nonlinearity. The effect of the total internal reflection of a weak signal plasmon beam from a high-power reference beam is discussed. Both ray and wave theories are used to describe signal propagation. The theory of the Kerr effect (electric birefringence) is developed with explicit inclusion of molecular vibration. When the theory is applied to CHCl3 and CHF3, it is found that terms with a vibrational origin are an important component of the β-hyperpolarizability extracted from temperature-dependent Kerr studies. It is concluded that these vibrational terms partly account for the difference between β obtained from second-harmonic-generation experiments and from the Kerr constant. 相似文献
