A novel crystalline nano cellulose (CNC) and polyvinyl amine (PVAm) based nanocomposite membranes were synthesized and evaluated for biogas upgrading. Different concentrations of CNC was incorporated in 3 wt % PVAm solution on commercial polysulfone (PSf) sheet using dip coating method. The effect of feed pressure (5, 10 and 15 bar) was investigated for the CO2/CH4 separation. The incorporation of CNC increased the crystallinity of membranes. The thickness of selective layer enhanced to 2.16 μm from 1.5 μm with increasing concentration of CNC. However, degree of swelling reduced from 75.88% to 68.93 with CNC concentration at 1.5 wt%. The best results were shown by PVAm membrane with 1 wt % CNC concentration i.e. CO2 permeance of 0.0216 m3(STP)/m2.bar.hr and selectivity (CO2/CH4) of 41.The permeance decreased approximately 1.8 folds for PVAm/1CNC membrane with the increase in pressure from 5 to 15 bar. However, selectivity dropped from 41 to 39 for formulated membranes.  相似文献

A defect-free ultra thin PVAm/PVA blend facilitated transport membrane cast on a porous polysulfone (PSf) support was developed and evaluated in this study. The target membrane was prepared from commercial polyvinyl amine (PVAm) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Effects of experimental conditions were investigated for a CO2–N2 mixed gas. A CO2/N2 separation factor of up to 174 and a CO2 permeance up to 0.58 m3(STP)/(m2 h bar) were documented. Experimental results suggest that CO2 is being transported according to the facilitated transport mechanism through this membrane. The fixed amino groups in the PVAm matrix function as CO2 carriers to facilitate the transport whereas the PVA adds mechanical strength to the blend by entanglement of the polymeric chains hence creating a supporting network. The good mechanical properties obtained from the blend of PVA with PVAm, enabled an ultra thin selective layer (down to 0.3 μm) to be formed on PSf support (with MWCO of 50,000), resulted in both high selectivity and permeance. The PVAm/PVA blend membrane also exhibited a good stability during a 400 h test.  相似文献

Fixed‐site–carrier membranes were prepared for the facilitated transport of CO2 by casting polyvinylamine (PVAm) on various supports, such as poly(ether sulfone) (PES), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), cellulose acetate (CA), and polysulfone (PSO). The cast PVAm on the support was crosslinked by various methods with glutaraldehyde, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and ammonium fluoride. Among the membranes tested, the PVAm cast on polysulfone and crosslinked by ammonium fluoride showed the highest selectivity of CO2 over CH4 (>1000). The permeance of CO2 was then measured to be 0.014 m3 (STP)/(m2 bar h) for a 20 μm thick membrane. The effect of the molecular weight of PVAm and feed pressure on the permeance was also investigated. The selectivity increased remarkably with increasing molecular weight and decreased slightly with increased pressure in the range of 1 to 4 bar. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work presents an attempt at correlating the available permeability/selectivity literature data for hollow fibers and flat membranes. Therefore, this paper gathers the information pertaining to membrane materials for which membrane properties of flat membranes and hollow fibers have both been reported. An overview of the relations between selectivity and permeance of hollow fiber membranes for various gas pairs (O2/N2, CO2/CH4, CO2/N2, H2/N2, H2/CO2, H2/CH4 and He/N2) is presented first. The upper bound lines are the ones proposed by Robeson, which were calculated by assuming a one-micron-thick skin layer as proposed by Robeson in 2008. From the results obtained, a relation between the selectivity ratio in both kinds of membranes (αHf) and skin layer thickness (l) calculated from flat membranes and hollow fibers gas permeation data for these pairs of gases is also presented. The skin layer thicknesses measured using seven different experimental techniques for six commercial membranes are compared. The influences of spinning parameters on the morphology and performance of hollow fiber membrane gas separation are discussed. Finally, an analysis is made of the reasons why the dense skin layer thicknesses of a hollow fiber calculated using permeance and permeability data vary for different gases and also differ from direct experimental measurements.  相似文献

A concept demonstration has been made to simultaneously enhance both O2 and CO2 gas permeance and O2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity via intelligently decoupling the effects of elongational and shear rates on dense-selective layer and optimizing spinning conditions in dual-layer hollow fiber fabrication. The dual-layer polyethersulfone hollow fiber membranes developed in this work exhibit an O2/N2 selectivity of 6.96 and an O2 permeance of 4.79 GPU which corresponds to an ultrathin dense-selective layer of 918 Å at room temperature. These hollow fibers also show an impressive CO2/CH4 selectivity of 49.8 in the mixed gas system considering the intrinsic value of only 32 for polyethersulfone dense films. To our best knowledge, this is the first time to achieve such a high CO2/CH4 selectivity without incorporating any material modification. The above gas separation performance demonstrates that the optimization of dual-layer spinning conditions with balanced elongational and shear rates is an effective approach to produce superior hollow fiber membranes for oxygen enrichment and natural gas separation.  相似文献

Dip coating and pyrolysis processes are used to create multi‐layer asymmetric carbon molecular sieve (CMS) hollow fiber membranes with excellent gas separation properties. Coating of an economical engineered support with a high‐performance polyimide to create precursor fibers with a dense skin layer reduces material cost by 25‐fold compared to monolithic precursors or ceramic supports. CMS permeation results with CO2/CH4 (50:50) mixed gas feed show attractive CO2/CH4 selectivity of 58.8 and CO2 permeance of 310 GPU at 35 °C.  相似文献

We report that 6FDA-2,6-DAT polyimide can be used to fabricate hollow fiber membranes with excellent performances for CO2/CH4 separation. In order to simplify the hollow fiber fabrication process and verify the feasibility of 6FDA-2,6-DAT hollow fiber membranes for CO2/CH4 separation, a new one-polymer and one-solvent spinning system (6FDA-2,6-DAT/N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP)) with much simpler processing conditions has been developed and the separation performance of newly developed 6FDA-2,6-DAT hollow fiber membranes has been further studied under the pure and mixed gas systems.Experimental results reveal that 6FDA-2,6-DAT asymmetric composite hollow fiber membranes have a strong tendency to be plasticized by CO2 and suffer severely physical aging with an initial CO2 permeance of 300 GPU drifting to 76 GPU at the steady state. However, the 6FDA-2,6-DAT asymmetric composite hollow fibers still present impressive ultimate stabilized performance with a CO2/CH4 selectivity of 40 and a CO2 permeance of 59 GPU under mixed gas tests. These results manifest that 6FDA-2,6-DAT polyimide is one of promising membrane material candidates for CO2/CH4 separation application.  相似文献

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) have received worldwide attention for natural gas purification due to their superior performance in terms of permeability and selectivity. The zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) blended polysulfone (PSf) membranes have been fabricated for natural gas purification. ZIF-8 was selected due to its low cost, remarkable thermal and chemical stabilities, and tunable microporous structure. The neat PSf hollow fiber membrane and mixed matrix hollow fiber membranes incorporated with the various ZIF-8 loadings up to 1.25% were fabricated. The prepared membranes were evaluated using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and gas separation performance. The low loading of ZIF-8 nanoparticles to the MMM improved thermal stability and glass transition temperature and yielded low surface roughness. MMMs were tested using pure gases with a significant improvement of 36% in CO2 permeability and 28% in CO2/CH4 selectivity compared to the neat membrane. However, the high ZIF-8 loading reduced the separation performances. Moreover, CO2/CH4 selectivity decreased at elevated pressure (8 and 10 bar) due to CO2-induced plasticization. Previously, the incorporation of ZIF-8 particles has primarily been subjected to the fabrication of flat sheet membranes, whereas this work focused on hollow fiber membranes which are rarely investigated. Hence, the promising results obtained at low feed pressure in this study demonstrated the potential of ZIF-8 based hollow fiber membrane for natural gas purification.  相似文献

In the present work we use a membrane contactor for the separation of CO2 from CH4 and we systematically investigate the influence of both the type of membrane and the different process parameters on the overall process performance (permeability and selectivity). This work is important because it reports real process performance data (permeances and selectivities) for the total process consisting of absorption and desorption under practical conditions using feed mixtures. Commercially available porous PP hollow fiber membranes and asymmetric PPO hollow fiber membranes have been applied and MEA was used as absorption liquid in the membrane contactor. The proposed approach allows us to identify the operating window and potential of the process. Although the performance of the PP membranes outperforms the performance of the PPO membranes in terms of productivity and selectivity, the PP fibers are extremely sensitive to only small variations in the feed pressure, resulting in severe performance loss. In addition to that, extremely high liquid losses are observed for the PP fibers especially at elevated temperatures. Factors that are significantly reduced when asymmetric PPO membranes with a dense, ultrathin top layer are used, which thus improves the performance and significantly increases the operating window and potential of the membrane contactor process.  相似文献

Glycerol-based liquid membranes immobilized in the pores of hydrophilic microporous hollow fibers have been studied for selective separation of CO2 from a mixed gas (CO2, N2) feed having low concentrations of CO2 characteristic of gases encountered in space walk and space cabin atmosphere. The immobilized liquid membranes (ILMs) investigated consist of sodium carbonate–glycerol or glycine-Na–glycerol solution. Based on the performances of such liquid membranes in flat hydrophilic porous substrates [Chen et al., Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 38 (1999) 3489; Chen et al., Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 39 (2000) 2447], hollow fiber-based ILMs were studied at selected CO2 partial pressure differentials (ΔpCO2 range 0.36–0.50 cmHg), relative humidities (RH range 45–100%), as well as carrier concentrations. The sodium carbonate concentration was primarily 1.0 mol/dm3; the glycine-Na concentration was 3.0 mol/dm3. The sweep gas was always dry helium and it flowed on the shell side. Very high CO2/N2 selectivities were observed with porous polysulfone microfiltration membranes as substrate. As in the case of flat film-based ILMs (see references above), feed side RH is an important factor determining the ILM performances. Generally, lower permeances and greater CO2/N2 selectivity values were observed at lower feed stream RHs. When the feed side average RH=60%, pCO2,f=0.005 atm and glycine-Na concentration was 3.0 M, the CO2/N2 separation factor observed was over 5000. Prolonged runs lasting for 300 h showed that the hollow fiber-based ILM permeation performances were stable.  相似文献

Faujasite-type zeolite membranes were reproducibly synthesized by hydrothermal reaction on the outer surface of a porous α-alumina support tube of 30 or 200 mm in length. The membrane properties were evaluated by CO2 separation from an equimolar mixture of CO2 and N2 at a permeation temperature of 40°C. CO2 permeance and CO2/N2 selectivity of the NaY-type membranes were in the ranges of 0.4×10−6–2.5×10−6 mol m−2 s−1 Pa−1 and 20–50, respectively. The NaY-type membranes were ion-exchanged with alkali and alkaline earth cations. The LiY-type membrane showed the highest N2 permeance and the lowest CO2/N2 selectivity. The KY-type membrane gave the highest CO2/N2 selectivity. The NaY-type membrane was stable against exposure to air at 400°C. NaX-type zeolite membranes, formed by decreasing the ratio of SiO2/Al2O3 in the starting solution, exhibited lower CO2 permeances and higher CO2/N2 selectivities than those of the NaY-type zeolite membranes.  相似文献

The aim of current work is to study the interaction of process parameters including, temperature, CO2 feed composition and feed pressure were towards CO2 separation from CO2/CH4 binary gas mixture over hollow fiber mixed matrix membrane using design of experiment (DoE) approach. The hollow fiber mixed matrix membrane (HFMMM) containing NH2-MIL-53(Al) filler and cellulose acetate polymer was successfully spun and fibers with outer diameter of approximately 250–290 nm were obtained. The separation results revealed that the increment of temperature from 30 °C to 50 °C reduced the CO2/CH4 separation factor while, increasing feed pressure from 3 bar to 15 and increment of CO2 feed composition from 15 to 42.5 vol% increased the separation factor of HFMMM. The DoE results showed that the feed pressure was the most significant process parameter that intensely affected the CH4 permeance, CO2 permeance and CO2/CH4 separation factor. Based on the experimental results obtained, maximum CO2 permeance of 3.82 GPU was achieved at feed pressure of 3 bar, temperature of 50 °C and CO2 feed composition of 70 vol%. Meanwhile, minimum CH4 permeance of 0.01 GPU was obtained at feed pressure of 15 bar and temperature of 30 °C and CO2 feed composition of 70 vol%. Besides, maximum CO2/CH4 separation factor of 14.4 was achieved at feed pressure of 15 bar and temperature of 30 °C and CO2 feed composition of 15 vol%. Overall, the study on the interaction between separation processes parameters using central composite design (CCD) coupled with response surface methodology (RSM) possesses significant importance prior to the application of NH2-MIL-53(Al)/Cellulose Acetate HFMMM at industrial scale of natural gas purification.  相似文献

With the goal of obtaining a water soluble polymeric carrier for preparation of fixed facilitated transport membranes, a water soluble amino containing chitosan derivative was prepared through Michael-addition reaction between chitosan and ethyl acrylate followed by amidation of the ester groups with an appropriate diamine. This derivative was characterized using 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Then, facilitated transport membranes were prepared by casting a thin layer of chitosan derivative/poly(vinyl alcohol) blend on a porous polysolfune support; and the effect of fixed carrier’s content, feed temperature and feed pressure on the CO2 permeance, and CO2/CH4 selectivity of produced membranes were studied. A facilitated transport mechanism for CO2 through this membrane was concluded.  相似文献

Thin nylon-SiO2 membranes made by sol–gel SiO2 coating of a nylon weaving were impregnated in a second step with an aqueous carbonic anhydrase solution. The biocatalytic hybrid membranes obtained were applied to the capture of CO2 from a N2–CO2 gas mixture containing 10% CO2, under a total pressure ≈ 1 atm. The CO2 permeance of these membranes was at least similar to those previously reported for liquid membranes. When impregnated with a 0.2 mg mL−1 enzyme solution in a pH ≈ 8 NaHCO3 buffer, the permeance of a nylon-SiO2 membrane was multiplied by a factor ≈ 3 when the buffer molarity was increased from 0.1 to 1 M. By comparison, this permeance only increased by a factor ≈ 1.3 without any enzyme in the same buffers. The permeance was also higher with the enzyme than without it: respectively ≈3.7 10−8 and ≈4.7 10−9 mol \textm\textmembrane - 2 {\text{m}}_{\text{membrane}}^{{^{ - 2} }} s−1 Pa−1 with and without enzyme, in a 1 M NaHCO3 buffer. A maximum permeance was observed for an enzyme concentration of ≈0.2 mg mL−1, possibly due to a competition between the H+ ions produced from CO2,aq by the enzyme and the H+ captured by the buffer. Besides, when the SiO2–CO2 contact was enhanced by the membrane architecture, SiO2 improved the CO2 permeance. The influence of an in situ CaCO3 deposit was also investigated and it improved the CO2 permeance when no enzyme was added.  相似文献

Matrimid/polysulfone (PSf) dual-layer hollow fiber membranes were fabricated by using co-extrusion and dry-jet wet-spinning phase-inversion techniques. The effects of the spinning dope composition, spinneret dimension, spinneret temperature and the air gap distance on the hollow fiber membranes separation performance were studied. Aging phenomenon was also studied. After coated by 3 wt% silicon solution, the hollow fiber membranes have an O2/N2 selectivity of 7.55 at 25 °C, 506.625 kPa which exceeds the intrinsic value of Matrimid. The membranes have an O2 permeance of 9.36 GPU with an apparent dense-layer thickness of 1421 Å calculated from the O2 permeability. SEM images show the high porosity underneath the dense skin. It indicates that non-solvent addition is not necessary in the inner spinning dope to induce the macroviod formation. The binodals of the Matrimid/solvent/H2O and PSf/solvent/H2O indicate that the composition of the spinning dope plays an important role in the structure and the gas separation performance of the dual-layer hollow fiber membranes. The delayed demixing of the inner spinning dope may fabricate low resistance support layers in the dual-layer hollow fiber membranes.  相似文献

Technology designed to capture and store carbon dioxide (CO2) will play a significant role in the near-term reduction of CO2 emissions and is considered necessary to slow global warming. Nanoporous carbon (NPC) membranes show promise as a new generation of gas separation membranes suitable for CO2 capture. We have made supported NPC membranes from polyfurfuryl alcohol (PFA) at various pyrolysis temperatures. Positron annihilation lifetime spectrometry (PALS) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) results indicate that the pore size decreases whilst the porosity increases with increasing pyrolysis temperature. The membrane performance results support these findings with a significant increase in permeance being seen with increasing pyrolysis temperature, which relates to the increase in porosity.Mixed gas performance measurements also show an increase in CH4 permeance as the operating temperature is increased from 35 to 200 °C, which can be related to an increase in the rate of diffusion. However, the selectivity decreases with increasing operating temperature due to the smaller changes in the CO2 permeance. These smaller changes in CO2 permeance can be related to the stronger adsorption of this gas on the carbon surface at lower operating temperatures. Interestingly, regardless of the original pyrolysis temperature, the selectivity at higher operating temperatures is similar, whereas the permeance remains related to this pyrolysis temperature.  相似文献

Composite hollow fiber membranes were prepared by a dry-jet wet spinning process using a double layer spinneret. These membranes were composed of a thin and dense outer-layer of poly(ethylene oxide)-containing polyimide and a sponge-like inner layer of other polyimide. The outer layer was responsible for the separation and fabricated as thin as 1 μm. The permeation flux of CO2, RCO2, and the CO2/N2 selectivity decreased 40% and 10–20%, respectively, in a month after the membrane preparation. The steady performance was still high; for example, RCO2=69×10−6cm3 (STP)/(cm2 s cm Hg) and the selectivity of 33 at 323 K.  相似文献

Asymmetric hollow fiber membranes were prepared using the polyimide Matrimid® 5218. The fibers had an effective top layer thickness of 0.3–0.4 μm. The fibers were used in propane and propylene permeation experiments. Whereas the propane permeance remained more or less constant, the propylene permeance increased with feed pressure greater than 1 bar. This indicated that propylene plasticized the membrane material. The fibers were given different heat-treatments in order to investigate the possibilities to suppress the propylene plasticization. This treatment also reduced the permeance considerably, the effect being more pronounced the more intense the heat-treatment was. This was in agreement with scanning electron microscopy studies, which revealed that densification of the fibers occurred due to the heat-treatments. Most important, relatively mild heat-treatments already appeared to be effective in suppressing the propylene plasticization. Since these heat-treated fibers still readily dissolved it is concluded that the plasticization suppression was not due to crosslinking, but to an annealing effect. Due to thermal curing (annealing) at temperatures below the Tg aromatic polyimides tend to form charge transfer complexes, which restrict the polymer chain mobility. Presence of these complexes seems to be responsible for suppression of propylene plasticization.  相似文献

Asymmetric and slightly pressure dependent permeation properties of commercial air separation hollow fibers have been observed – phenomena that have not been mentioned in the literature before. In bore-side feed the permeance of oxygen, nitrogen and helium slightly increases with pressure while in shell-side feed the permeance decreases with pressure. At a feed pressure of 12.8 bara the permeance in bore-side feed is about 10–15% higher than in shell-side feed mode. Interestingly, the effect was more or less similar for different gases and different fibers. The results suggest that mechanical stress induced by the pressure difference across the membrane affects the permeability of the skin layer.  相似文献
