During the twelve years of operation of thee + e collider LEP, the associated collaborations, ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, have extensively searched for Higgs bosons over a broad range of masses. We present the final results from LEP for the standard model Higgs boson which are obtained from a statistical combination of the data from the four experiments. We also present preliminary combined results for neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM) where the Higgs sector is assumed to be CP invariant. Finally, we discuss an alternative MSSM scenario including CP violation in the Higgs sector.  相似文献

During 1997 the ALEPH experiment at LEP gathered 57 pb−1 of data at centre-of-mass energies near 183 GeV. These data are used to look for possible signals from the production of the Standard Model Higgs boson in the reaction e+e→HZ. No evidence of a signal is found in the data; seven events are selected, in agreement with the expectation of 7.2 events from background processes. This observation results in an improved lower limit on the mass of the Higgs boson: mH>87.9 GeV/c2 at 95% confidence level.  相似文献

The minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) predicts the existence of new charged and neutral Higgs bosons. The pair creation of these new particles at the multi-TeV e + e compact linear collider (CLIC), followed by decays into standard model particles, were simulated along with the corresponding background. High-energy beam-beam effects such as ISR, beamstrahlung and hadronic background were included. We have investigated the possibility of using the ratio between the number of events found in various decay channels to determine the MSSM parameter tan β and we have derived the corresponding statistical error from the uncertainties on the measured cross-sections and Higgs boson masses.   相似文献

This paper describes a topological search for an invisibly decaying Higgs boson, H, produced via the Bjorken process (e+e-→HZ). The analysis is based on data recorded using the OPAL detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies from 183 to 209 GeV corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 629 pb-1. In the analysis only hadronic decays of the Z boson are considered. A scan over Higgs boson masses from 1 to 120 GeV and decay widths from 1 to 3000 GeV revealed no indication for a signal in the data. From a likelihood ratio of expected signal and standard model background we determine upper limits on cross-section times branching ratio to an invisible final state. For moderate Higgs boson decay widths, these range from about 0.07 pb (MH=60 GeV) to 0.57 pb (MH=114 GeV). For decay widths above 200 GeV the upper limits are of the order of 0.15 pb. The results can be interpreted in general scenarios predicting a large invisible decay width of the Higgs boson. As an example we interpret the results in the so-called stealthy Higgs scenario. The limits from this analysis exclude a large part of the parameter range of this scenario experimentally accessible at LEP 2.  相似文献

Preliminary combinations of measurements of the 4 LEP Collaborations of the processe + e f-f at LEP II are presented. The combined results are interpreted in terms of contact interactions and the exchange ofZ′ bosons and within models of low-scale gravity in large extra dimensions.  相似文献

The history concerning an experimental verification of the standard model of particle physics is reviewed with special emphasis on results from experiments using the highest-energy particle colliders, namely, PETRA, LEP and LHC. This article covers physics subjects from discovering the gluon and precise measurements at LEP, to discovering the Higgs boson. It also covers some searches for physics beyond the standard model, particularly supersymmetry, as well as recent developments of some particle detectors that were used in those experiments.  相似文献

We present results for the lowest order cross sections, calculated with the complete set of standard model Feynman diagrams, of all possible detection channels of the associated production of the top quark pair and the light Higgs boson, which may be used for determination of the top–Higgs Yukawa coupling at the future e + e linear collider. We show that, for typical particle identification cuts, the background contributions are large. In particular, the QCD background contributions are much bigger than could be expected when taking into account a possibly low virtuality of exchanged gluons. Moreover, we include the initial state radiation effects and discuss the dependence of the cross sections on the Higgs boson and top quark masses.  相似文献

The large hadron collider (LHC) and its detectors, ATLAS and CMS, are being built to study TeV scale physics, and to fully understand the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism. The Monte-Carlo simulation results for the standard model and minimal super symmetric standard model Higgs boson searches and parameter measurements are discussed. Emphasis is placed on recent investigations of Higgs produced in association with top quarks and in vector boson fusion channels. These results indicate that Higgs sector can be explored in many channels within a couple of years of LHC operation, i.e.,L = 30 fb−1. Complete coverage including measurements of Higgs parameters can be carried out with full LHC program.  相似文献

The search for the Higgs boson was one of the most relevant issues of the final years of LEP running at high energies. An excess of 3σ beyond the background expectation has been found, consistent with the production of the Higgs boson with a mass near 115 GeV/c2. At the upgraded TeVatron and at LHC the search for the Higgs boson will continue. At TeVatron Higgs bosons can be detected with masses up to 180 GeV with an assumed total integrated luminosity of 20 fb—1. LHC has the potential to discover the Higgs boson in many different decay channels for Higgs masses up to 1 TeV. It will be possible to measure Higgs boson parameters, such as mass, width, and couplings to fermions and bosons. The results from Higgs searches at LEP2 and the possibilities for searches at hadron colliders will be reviewed.  相似文献

Recent results from the LEP collider at CERN are presented: on the identification of e + e W + W and the determination of the W mass and width and limits on its anomalous couplings; the search for the Standard Model and non-minimal Higgs; search for SUSY and other new particles. Fits to all electroweak data leading to predictions of the Higgs mass within the Standard Model are presented.  相似文献

The LEP2 data on e + e e + e , μ+μ, and τ + τ processes are fitted to estimate possible signals of the Abelian Z′ boson. In the many-parametric fits, four independent parameters must be fitted if the derived already low-energy relations between the Z′ couplings to the standard-model fermions are taken into consideration. No signals are found for the complete LEP2 data set for these processes. In the fit of the backward bins, the hint at the 1.25σ C.L. is detected. The Z′ couplings to the vector and axial-vector lepton currents are constrained. Comparisons with the one-parameter fits are performed. The text was submitted by the authors in English.  相似文献

LEP will be operating at cm energies above W pair threshold from 1996. The process e+e → W+W will provide a unique opportunity to test some important aspects of the Standard Model. The methodology of studying this process has been reviewed in this report. The study of the process will probe at the triple vector boson coupling. The sensitivity to anomalous coupling of W boson has been discussed in detail.  相似文献

A search for light Higgs bosons was performed using the data sample collected in 1990 by the DELPHI detector at LEP, at centre of mass energies between 88.2 and 94.2 GeV. Using the process e+eH 0+Z 0*,Z 0*ff, it is possible to exclude the existence of the standard model Higgs particle with a mass between 0 and 210 MeV/c2 at the 99% confidence level. Extending this analysis to the minimal supersymmetric standard model restricts the lightest neutral Higgs boson to masses above 28 GeV/c2 irrespective of the value of the mixing angle.  相似文献

This paper summarises the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in e + e - collisions at centre-of-mass energies up to 209 GeV performed by the OPAL Collaboration at LEP. The consistency of the data with the background hypothesis and various Higgs boson mass hypotheses is examined. No indication of a signal is found in the data and a lower bound of 112.7 Gev/c2 is obtained on the mass of the Standard Model Higgs boson at the 95% CL. We study the implications of LHC searches on SUSY particle spectra using flat scans of the 19-parameter pMSSM phase space. We apply constraints from flavour physics, g μ −2, dark matter and earlier LEP and Tevatron searches. The sensitivity of the LHC SUSY searches with jets, leptons and missing energy is assessed by reproducing with fast simulation the recent CMS analyses after validation on benchmark points. We present results in terms of the fraction of pMSSM points compatible with all the constraints which are excluded by the LHC searches with 1 fb−1 and 15 fb−1 as a function of the mass of strongly and weakly interacting SUSY particles. We also discuss the suppression of Higgs production cross sections for the MSSM points not excluded and contrast the region of parameter space tested by the LHC data with the constraints from dark matter direct detection experiments.  相似文献

The probabilities of the associated production of a Higgs boson with a Z boson by a charged lepton in the field of a plane electromagnetic wave of arbitrary intensity and in a constant crossed field are obtained. The behavior of the cross section of the process as a function of the particle energies and the external field intensity is investigated for various values of the Higgs boson mass. It is shown that there is a logarithmic increase in the photoproduction cross section at superhigh energies up to a value significantly exceeding the cross section of the reaction e ++e Z+H, which is presently regarded as the most probable channel for the production of Higgs bosons. LEP1 precision measurements, combined with LEP2 searches for the Higgs boson, define the framework for future investigations in subatomic physics. In particular they define the energy and the luminosity which are needed at a future e+e collider to settle the issue of the origin of mass and to complement the LHC on the various scenarios proposed beyond the Standard Model. The DELPHI experiment at the LEP e + e- collider collected almost 700 pb-1 at centre-of-mass energies above the Z0 mass pole and up to 208 GeV. Those data were used to search for SUSY in the Anomaly Mediated SUSY Breaking (AMSB) scenario with a flavour independent common sfermion mass parameter. The searches covered several possible signatures experimentally accessible at LEP, with either the neutralino, the sneutrino or the stau being the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP). They included: the search for nearly mass-degenerate chargino and neutralino, which is a typical feature of AMSB; the search for Standard-Model-like or invisibly decaying Higgs boson; the search for stable staus; the search for cascade decays of SUSY particles resulting in the LSP and a low multiplicity final state containing neutrinos. No evidence of a signal was found, and thus constraints were set in the space of the parameters of the model.Received: 3 September 2003, Revised: 3 February 2004, Published online: 9 March 2004  相似文献
