We report the centrality dependence of transverse mass (m t ) spectra at mid-rapidity for the identified strange hadrons K S 0 , ? $\Lambda + \bar \Lambda $ and $\Xi ^ - + \bar \Xi ^ + $ in d+Au collisions at RHIC. The measured transverse momentum (p T ) covers 0.4<p T <6.0 GeV/c for K S 0 , ø, $\Lambda + \bar \Lambda $ and 0.6<p T <5.0 GeV/c for $\Xi ^ - + \bar \Xi ^ + $ . The binary collision normalized nuclear modification factors R CP of these hadrons indicate that the Cronin effect in d+Au collisions has a distinct particle-type dependence. the R CP ratios show a distinct baryons versus mesons dependence: the R CP for $\Xi ^ - + \bar \Xi ^ + $ follows that for $\Lambda + \bar \Lambda $ while the R CP for the ? is close to that for the K S 0 . Similar features have also been observed in Au+Au collisions. Initial parton scattering alone is not sufficient to explain this particle-type dependence. Hadronization processes are likely to be important for determining hadron properties in high-energy collisions as suggested by coalescence and recombination models.  相似文献

Direct photons are an important tool for the detection of the quark-gluon plasma in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. Direct-photon measurements were made in Pb + Pb collisions at GeV and in Au + Au collisions at GeV. These results are reviewed and compared with model calculations.Arrival of the final proofs: 9 May 2005PACS: 25.75.DwThis revised version was published online in July 2005 with a correction to the article category and incorporation of the revised date.  相似文献

The rapidity distribution of Λ and ?Λ produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions at CERN energies is studied in the framework of an independent string model — with quark-antiquark as well as diquark-antidiquark pairs in the nucleon sea. It is shown that, besides the Λ-?Λ pair production resulting from the fragmentation of sea diquarks, final state interactions of co-moving secondaries π + NK + Λ and ?NK → ?Λ are needed in order to reproduce the data. Predictions for Pb-Pb collisions are presented.  相似文献

In this contribution I present a review on the actual status of dilepton measurements at SPS and RHIC energies and the current theoretical interpretations. Model independent results will be pointed out for both energies. Due to partially conflicting theoretical concepts I will highlight the open questions that may be solved by extended theoretical as well as experimental studies.  相似文献

PHENIX measures leptons at mid and forward rapidities and extracts leptons resulting from semi-leptonic decays of heavy quarks. We present PHENIX results related to heavy quark production, specifically the invariant cross section of the non-photonic single electrons produced at midrapidity in p+p and d+Au collisions at $\sqrt {s_{NN} } = 200$ GeV. The measured cross section for p+p collisions is compared with the NLO prediction, and a possible excess over the prediction is noted. The measured cross section for d+Au collisions scales with the number of colliding nucleon pairs from the p+p spectra.  相似文献

The centrality dependence of thermal parameters describing hadron multiplicities and intermediate-mass dilepton spectra in heavy ion collisions at SPS and RHIC is analyzed. From experimental hadron multiplicities we deduce evidence for strangeness saturation at high energy and maximum centrality. The observed dilepton spectra can be parameterized by a centrality independent temperature.  相似文献

With a view to understand the available data on the momentum- and energy-dependences of theJ/Ψ suppression, we compute the suppression rate within the framework of a hydrodynamical evolution model for the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formation. We make use of an ansatz for the temperature profile function which accounts not only for the space and time evolutions of QGP but also for the possibility of a mixed phase in the boundary region of the deconfined phase. While the predictions are made for the longitudinal momentum- and energy-dependences of the suppression rate, a satisfactory agreement with the available data is found for its dependences on the transverse momentum and the transverse energy.  相似文献

We provide a method to test if hadrons produced in high energy heavy ion collisions were emitted at freeze-out from an equilibrium hadron gas. Our considerations are based on an ideal gas at fixed temperatureT f , baryon number densityn B , and vanishing total strangeness. The constituents of this gas are all hadron resonances up to a mass of 2 GeV; they are taken to decay according to the experimentally observed branching ratios. The ratios of the various resulting hadron production rates are tabulated as functions ofT f andn B . These tables can be used for the equilibration analysis of any heavy ion data; we illustrate this for some specific cases.  相似文献

Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD), defined on a discrete space-time lattice, leads to a spectacular non-perturbative prediction of a new state of matter, called quark-gluon plasma (QGP), at sufficiently high temperatures or equivalently large energy densities. The experimental programs of CERN, Geneva and BNL, New York of relativistic heavy ion collisions are expected to produce such energy densities, thereby providing us a chance to test the above prediction. After a brief introduction of the necessary theoretical concepts, I will present a critical review of the experimental results already obtained by the various experiments in order to examine whether QGP has already been observed by them.  相似文献

QCD predicts a phase transition between hadronic matter and a quark-gluon plasma at high energy density. The relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory is a new facility dedicated to the experimental study of matter under extreme conditions. Already the first round of experimental results at RHIC indicated that the conditions to create a new state of matter are indeed reached in the collisions of heavy nuclei. Studies of particle spectra and their correlations at low transverse momenta provide evidence of strong pressure gradients in the highly interacting dense medium and hint that we observe a system in thermal equilibrium. Recent runs with high statistics allow us to explore the regime of hard-scattering processes where the suppression of hadrons at large transverse momentum, and quenching of di-jets are observed thus providing further evidence for extreme high density matter created in collisions at RHIC.  相似文献

We consider the production sources of prompt and thermal photons which include the contribution of gluons in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Considering in our calculation the shadowing and iso-spin effects of the nucleus we can properly estimate the prompt photon production. We develop a new thermal jet-photon conversion mechanism which plays a vital role in the low transverse momentum region. The effect of the non-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma enhances the contribution of thermal photons.  相似文献

The cold component of large transverse momentum dilepton production via semi-coherent two-photon interaction is calculated. The cold contribution is essential to the dilepton spectra in the soft region for different mass bins. The results are compared with the PHENIX experimental data at RHIC, and we find that the modification of semi-coherent two-photon processes is more evident with the rising dilepton mass bins.  相似文献

The recent status of hard thermal photon production in relativistic heavy ion collisions is reviewed and the current rates are presented with emphasis on corrected bremsstrahlung processes in the quark–gluon plasma (QGP) and quark–hadron duality. Employing Bjorken hydrodynamics with an EOS supporting the phase transition from QGP to hot hadron gas (HHG), thermal photon spectra are computed. For SPS 158 GeV Pb + Pb collisions, comparison with other theoretical results and the WA98 direct photon data indicates significant contributions due to prompt photons. Extrapolating the presented approach to RHIC and LHC experiments, predictions of the thermal photon spectrum show a QGP outshining the HHG in the high-pT-region.  相似文献

Effects of partonic interactions in heavy ion collisions at RHIC are studied in a multiphase transport model (AMPT) that includes both initial partonic and final hadronic interactions. It is found that a large parton scattering cross section is needed to understand the measured elliptic flow of pions and two-pion correlation function.  相似文献

Experimental data on transverse particle spectra obtained by the STAR, PHENIX, PHOBOS, and BRAHMS collaborations at the RHIC are analyzed in the framework of the generalized concept of z-scaling. It was developed for analysis of inclusive particle production in proton-(anti)proton collisions at high p T and high multiplicities. The general scheme of the approach based on the physical principles of self-similarity, locality, and fractality is reviewed. Independence of the scaling function ψ(z) from energy, multiplicity, and atomic weight for h ±, π ±,0, K S 0 , and Λ hadrons produced in Au-Au and Cu-Cu collisions at √s = 130 and 200 GeV is discussed. Based on z-scaling, the multiplicity dependence of pion transverse spectra up to p T = 25 GeV/c in Au-Au collisions at √s = 200 GeV for experiments at the RHIC is predicted. We present some of the important experimental results from nucleus-nucleus collision studies carried out by the STAR experiment at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The results suggests that central Au+Au collisions at RHIC has produced a dense and rapidly thermalizing matter with initial energy densities above the critical values predicted by lattice QCD for establishment of a quark-gluon plasma (QGP).  相似文献

These notes are a summary of a lecture delivered at the 30th Erice School in Nuclear Physics and provide an elementary introduction to shear viscosity as it is applied to heavy ion collisions. After a qualitative review of the ideal and viscous space-time evolutions, I calculate the elliptic flow and discuss how viscosity affects the results.  相似文献

The freeze-out conditions in the light (S+S) and heavy (Pb+Pb) colliding systems at 160 AGeV/c are analyzed within the microscopic Quark Gluon String Model (QGSM). Even for the most heavy systems particle emission takes place from the whole space-time domain available for the system evolution, but not from the thin “freeze-out hypersurface”, adopted in fluid dynamical models. Pions are continuously emitted from the whole volume of the reaction and reflect the main trends of the system evolution. Nucleons in Pb+Pb collisions initially come from the surface region. For both reactions there is a separation of the elastic and inelastic freeze-out.  相似文献
