The rotationally symmetric flow over a rotating disk in an incompressible viscous fluid is analyzed by a new method when the fluid at infinity is in a state of rigid rotation (in the same or in the opposite sense) about the same axis as that of the disk. Asymptotic expansions for the velocity field over the entire flow field are obtained for the general class of one-parameter rotationally symmetric flows. This method is further extended to the case when a uniform suction or injection is assumed at the rotating disk. Fluid motion induced by oscillatory suction of small amplitude at the rotating disk is also discussed. An initial-value analysis reveals that resonance is possible only when the angular velocity of the rotating fluid is greater than that of the rotating disk.  相似文献

The exact analytic solutions of two problems of a second order fluid in presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field are investigated. The governing equation is of fourth order ordinary differential equation and is solved using perturbation method. In the first problem we discuss the flow of a second order fluid due to non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk and a fluid at infinity. In second problem the flow of a second order conducting fluid between two infinite plates rotating about the same axis is investigated, with suction or blowing along the axial direction. For second order conducting fluid it is observed that asymptotic solution exists for the velocity both in the case of suction and blowing.  相似文献

The velocity field and the associated shear stress corresponding to the longitudinal oscillatory flow of a generalized second grade fluid, between two infinite coaxial circular cylinders, are determined by means of the Laplace and Hankel transforms. Initially, the fluid and cylinders are at rest and at t = 0+ both cylinders suddenly begin to oscillate along their common axis with simple harmonic motions having angular frequencies Ω1 and Ω2. The solutions that have been obtained are presented under integral and series forms in terms of the generalized G and R functions and satisfy the governing differential equation and all imposed initial and boundary conditions. The respective solutions for the motion between the cylinders, when one of them is at rest, can be obtained from our general solutions. Furthermore, the corresponding solutions for the similar flow of ordinary second grade fluid and Newtonian fluid are also obtained as limiting cases of our general solutions. At the end, the effect of different parameters on the flow of ordinary second grade and generalized second grade fluid are investigated graphically by plotting velocity profiles.  相似文献

An exact analytic solution of the unsteady Navier–Stokes equations is obtained for the flow caused by the non-coaxial rotations of a porous disk and a fluid at infinity. The porous disk is executing oscillations in its own plane with superimposed injection or suction. An increasing or decreasing velocity amplitude of the oscillating porous disk is also discussed. Further, it is shown that a combination of suction/injection and decreasing/increasing velocity amplitude is possible as well. In addition, the flow due to porous oscillating disk and a fluid at infinity rotating about an axis parallel to the z-axis is attempted as a second problem. Sommario.

This paper examines the unsteady two‐dimensional flow of a second‐grade fluid between parallel disks in the presence of an applied magnetic field. The continuity and momentum equations governing the unsteady two‐dimensional flow of a second‐grade fluid are reduced to a single differential equation through similarity transformations. The resulting differential system is computed by a homotopy analysis method. Graphical results are discussed for both suction and blowing cases. In addition, the derived results are compared with the homotopy perturbation solution in a viscous fluid (Math. Probl. Eng., DOI: 10.1155/2009/603916 ). An exact solution for the three-dimensional flow due to non-coaxial rotation of a porous disk and a second grade fluid at infinity is obtained. It is shown that for uniform suction or uniform blowing at the disk, an asymptotic profile exists for the velocity distribution. The velocity depends on two parameters: one of them is the suction parameter or blowing parameter and the other is the visco-elastic parameter. Furthermore, it is found that when the value of the visco-elastic parameter is fixed, the velocity decreases with an increase in the value of the suction parameter and when the value of the suction parameter is fixed, the velocity increases with an increase in the value of the visco-elastic parameter.  相似文献

The laminar boundary layer flow induced in a quiescent visco-elastic fluid by a permeable stretched flat surface with non-linearly (quadratic) velocity and appropriate wall transpiration under the influence of a magnetic field is investigated. It is shown that the problem permits a complete analytic exponentially decaying solution for the set of continuity and momentum equations with both magnetic field and visco-elasticity influences for two classes of visco-elastic fluid, namely, the second grade and Walters’ liquid B fluids. The effects on both the skin friction parameter α and velocity profiles of various physical parameters such as visco-elasticity, suction/blowing parameter and magnetic parameter are studied. The results for the velocity field are presented through graphs and discussed in detail.  相似文献

This paper deals with the rotational flow of a generalized second grade fluid, within a circular cylinder, due to a torsional shear stress. The fractional calculus approach in the constitutive relationship model of a second grade fluid is introduced. The velocity field and the resulting shear stress are determined by means of the Laplace and finite Hankel transforms to satisfy all imposed initial and boundary conditions. The solutions corresponding to second grade fluids as well as those for Newtonian fluids are obtained as limiting cases of our general solutions. The influence of the fractional coefficient on the velocity of the fluid is also analyzed by graphical illustrations.  相似文献

The effects of the side walls on the flow in ducts with suction and injection are examined. Three illustrative examples are given. The first example considers the effect of the side walls on the flow over a porous plate. The second example considers the flow between two parallel porous plates and the third example is devoted to the investigation of the flow in a rectangular duct with two porous walls. Exact solution of the governing equation using the no-slip boundary condition and an additional condition are obtained. The expression of the velocity, the volume flux and the vorticity are given. It is found that for large values of the cross-Reynolds number near the suction region the flow for a Newtonian fluid does not satisfy the boundary condition, but it does not behave in the same way for a second grade fluid. Three examples considered show that there are pronounced effects of the side walls on the flows of a second grade fluid in ducts with suction and injection.  相似文献

Unsteady flow over an infinite permeable rotating cone in a rotating fluid in the presence of an applied magnetic field has been investigated. The unsteadiness is induced by the time-dependent angular velocity of the body, as well as that of the fluid. The partial differential equations governing the flow have been solved numerically by using an implicit finite-difference scheme in combination with the quasi-linearization technique. For large values of the magnetic parameter, analytical solutions have also been obtained for the steady-state case. It is observed that the magnetic field, surface velocity, and suction and injection strongly affect the local skin friction coefficients in the tangential and azimuthal directions. The local skin friction coefficients increase when the angular velocity of the fluid or body increases with time, but these decrease with decreasing angular velocity. The skin friction coefficients in the tangential and azimuthal directions vanish when the angular velocities of fluid and the body are equal but this does not imply separation. When the angular velocity of the fluid is greater than that of the body, the velocity profiles reach their asymptotic values at the edge of the boundary layer in an oscillatory manner, but the magnetic field or suction reduces or suppresses these oscillations.  相似文献

The electroosmotic flow of a micropolar fluid in a microchannel bounded by two parallel porous plates undergoing periodic vibration is studied. The equations for conservation of linear and angular momentums and Gauss' s law of charge distribution are solved within the framework of the Debye-H¨uckel approximation. The fluid velocity and microrotation are assumed to depend linearly on the Reynolds number. The study shows that the amplitude of microrotation is highly sensitive to the changes in the magnitude of the suction velocity and the width of the microchannel. An increase in the micropolar parameter gives rise to a decrease in the amplitude of microrotation. Numerical estimates reveal that the microrotation of the suspended microelements in blood also plays an important role in controlling the electro-osmotically actuated flow dynamics in microbio-fluidic devices.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with a class of exact solutions to the steady Navier-Stokes equations for the incompressible Newtonian viscous electrically conducting fluid flow due to a porous disk rotating with a constant angular speed. The three-dimensional hydromagnetic equations of motion are treated analytically to obtained exact solutions with the inclusion of suction and injection. The well-known thinning/thickening flow field effect of the suction/injection is better understood from the constructed closed form velocity equations.Making use of this solution, analytical formulas for the angular velocity components as well as for the permeable wall shear stresses are derived.Interaction of the resolved flow field with the surrounding temperature is further analyzed via the energy equation. The temperature field is shown to accord with the dissipation and the Joule heating. As a result, exact formulas are obtained for the temperature field which take different forms corresponding to the condition of suction or injection imposed on the wall.  相似文献

The present paper is concerned with a class of exact solutions to the steady Navier-Stokes equations for the incompressible Newtonian viscous fluid flow motion due to a porous disk rotating with a constant angular speed. The three-dimensional equations of motion are treated analytically yielding derivation of exact solutions with suction and injection through the surface included. The well-known thinning/thickening flow field effect of the suction/injection is better understood from the exact velocity equations obtained. Making use of this solution, analytical formulas corresponding to the permeable wall shear stresses are extracted.Interaction of the resolved flow field with the surrounding temperature is further analyzed via the energy equation. As a result, exact formulas are obtained for the temperature field which take different forms depending on whether suction or injection is imposed on the wall. The impacts of several quantities are investigated on the resulting temperature field. In accordance with the Fourier‘s heat law, a constant heat transfer from the porous disk to the fluid takes place. Although the influence of dissipation varies, suction enhances the heat transfer rate as opposed to the injection.  相似文献

Exact analytical solution for flows of an electrically conducting fluid over an infinite oscillatory disk in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field is constructed. Both the disk and the fluid are in a state of non-coaxial rotation. Such a flow model has a great significance not only due to its own theoretical interest, but also due to applications to geophysics and engineering. The resulting initial value problem has been solved analytically by applying the Laplace transform technique and the explicit expressions for the velocity for steady and unsteady cases have been established. The analysis of the obtained results shows that the flow field is appreciably influenced by the applied magnetic field, the frequency and rotation parameters.  相似文献

An analysis is carried out to study the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) two-dimensional boundary layer flow of a second grade viscoelastic fluid over an oscillatory stretching surface. The flow is induced due to an infinite elastic sheet which is stretched back and forth in its own plane. For the investigated problem, the governing equations are reduced to a non-linear partial differential equation by means of similarity transformations. This equation is solved both by a newly developed analytic technique, namely homotopy analysis method (HAM) and by a numerical method employing the finite difference scheme, in which a coordinate transformation is employed to transform the semi-infinite physical space to a bounded computational domain. The results obtained by means of both methods are then compared and show an excellent agreement. The effects of various parameters like visco-elastic parameter, the Hartman number and the relative frequency amplitude of the oscillatory sheet to the stretching rate on the velocity field are graphically illustrated and analysed. The values of wall shear stress for these parameters are also tabulated and discussed.  相似文献

This paper concentrates on the unsteady flows of a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) second grade fluid filling a porous medium. The flow modeling involves modified Darcy's law. Three problems are considered. They are (i) starting flow due to an oscillating edge, (ii) starting flow in a duct of rectangular cross-section oscillating parallel to its length, and (iii) starting flow due to an oscillating pressure gradient. Analytical expressions of velocity field and corresponding tangential stresses are developed. These expressions are found to be significantly affected by the applied magnetic field, permeability of the porous medium and the material parameter of the fluid. Moreover, the influence of pertinent parameters on the flows is delineated and appropriate conclusions are drawn. Finally, a comparison is also made with the existing results in the literature.  相似文献

An exact solution of an oscillatory flow is constructed in a rotating fluid under the influence of an uniform transverse magnetic field. The fluid is considered as second-grade (non-Newtonian). The influence of Hall currents and material parameters of the second-grade fluid is investigated. The hydromagnetic flow is generated in the uniformly rotating fluid bounded between two rigid non-conducting parallel plates by small amplitude oscillations of the upper plate. The exact solutions of the steady and unsteady velocity fields are constructed. It is found that the steady solution depends on the Hall parameter but is independent of the material parameter of the fluid. The unsteady part of the solution depends upon both (Hall and material) parameters. Attention is focused upon the physical nature of the solution, and the structure of the various kinds of boundary layers is examined. Several results of physical interest have been deduced in limiting cases.  相似文献

The velocity field and the associated shear stress corresponding to the torsional oscillatory flow of a second grade fluid, between two infinite coaxial circular cylinders, are determined by means of the Laplace and Hankel transforms. At time t = 0, the fluid and both the cylinders are at rest and at t = 0 + , cylinders suddenly begin to oscillate around their common axis in a simple harmonic way having angular frequencies ω 1 and ω 2 . The obtained solutions satisfy the governing differential equation and all imposed initial and boundary conditions. The solutions for the motion between the cylinders, when one of them is at rest, can be obtained from our general solutions. Furthermore, the corresponding solutions for Newtonian fluid are also obtained as limiting cases of our general solutions.  相似文献

The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of flow parameters on the free convection and mass transfer of an unsteady magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting, viscous, and incompressible fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate under oscillatory suction velocity and thermal radiation. The Dufour (diffusion thermo) and Soret (thermal diffusion) effects are taken into account. The problem is solved numerically using the finite element method for the velocity, the temperature, and the concentration field. The expression for the skin friction, the rate of heat and mass transfer is obtained. The results are presented numerically through graphs and tables for the externally cooled plate (Gr 〉 0) and the externally heated plate (Gr 〈 0) to observe the effects of various parameters encountered in the equations.  相似文献
