Self-starting additive-pulse mode locking of a diode-pumped Nd:KGd(WO4)2 laser is demonstrated for the first time. An output power of 0.85 W is achieved with 2.3-ps pulses at a repetition frequency of 76.5 MHz. The shortest pulse generated had a duration of 1.9 ps. We demonstrate phase conjugation and dynamic holography by degenerate four-wave mixing in a continuous-wave diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser for the first time. A phase-conjugate reflectivity of 1.4% is obtained with a 12 W diode power. The experimental results and the optimizing parameters, such as the cavity mirror reflectivities, are compared with results from a steady-state theoretical analysis. We report two kinds of compact and efficient diode-end-pumped TEM00 lasers with output power >25 W at ≈50 W of incident pump power. One laser consists of a single 0.3 at. % Nd:YVO4 crystal in a V-type cavity, the other laser includes two 0.5 at. % Nd:YVO4 crystals in a linear cavity. Experimental results show that lowering Nd3+ concentration can be beneficial in extending the fracture-limited pump power but it also increases the sensitivity of the pump wavelength due to the overlapping efficiency. We report a diode-pumped Nd:Gd0.64Y0.36VO4 laser passively mode locked by using a GaAs saturable absorber mirror. Both the Q-switched and continuous-wave (CW) mode locking were experimentally realized. The CW mode-locked pulses have a pulse width of about 8.8 ps at a repetition rate of 161.3 MHz. Limited by the available pump power, a maximum output power of 2.47 W was obtained for the CW mode-locked pulses with a slope efficiency of about 26.6%.  相似文献

cw dual-wavelength operation of a diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
A dual-wavelength continuous wave (cw) diode-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser that generates simultaneous laser action at the wavelengths 1064 nm and 1342 nm is demonstrated. The optimum oscillation condition for the simultaneous dual-wavelength operation in a diode-end-pumped solid-state laser has been derived. The relationship between the laser cavity and the output stability is also studied. Experimental results show that the stability of the output power at the two wavelengths could be enhanced by use of a three-mirror cavity. We report on new, simple and efficient multipass amplifiers using prisms or corner cubes to perform several passes in different planes of incidence. This scheme provides an optimised overlap between the signal passes and the pumped volume. We investigated our amplification geometry with Nd:YAG and Nd:YVO4 crystals: the use of a low-doped (0.3%) Nd:YVO4 crystal allowed better thermal behaviour and higher performance. We amplified a pulsed microlaser (110 mW of average power at 1064 nm) and obtained a diffraction-limited output beam with an average power of 5.7 W for 15 W of pump power and a small-signal gain of 56 dB in a six-pass configuration. We demonstrate a high-power nonlinear mirror (NLM) mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser with a periodically poled KTP (PPKTP). With a 10-mm-long PPKTP crystal, 5.6 W of average power with 20-ps of pulse duration was generated at 18-W of pump power. Compared with conventional type-II KTP crystal with the same length, the stability against the Q-switched mode-locking (QML) is significantly increased with PPKTP in NLM laser; and the pulse duration was also considerably reduced. We demonstrate a compact efficient diode-pumped acousto-optically Q-switched intracavity-frequency-tripled Nd:YVO4 blue laser. The optimum polarization state is experimentally investigated to optimize the output performance. Greater than 280 mW of 447-nm average power at a repetition rate of 25 kHz was generated with a 15-W diode pump power. At 25 kHz, the pulse width is shorter than 15 ns and the peak power is higher than 800 W.  相似文献

Simultaneous mode-locking and Q-switching has been accomplished in a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4/LiF:F2 - laser. At an absorbed pump power of 23.6 W, the average output power was 6.0 W and the repetition rate of the Q-switched pulse was 260 kHz. A depth of mode-locking of 100% was obtained and there was no satellite pulse between mode-locked pulse trains. The mode-locked pulse inside the Q-switched pulse had a repetition rate of approximately 148 MHz and its average duration was estimated to be around 75 ps. We report the first diode-pumped solid-state laser operating in cw-mode-locked regime and simultaneously achieving intracavity frequency-tripling. This laser provide UV picosecond pulses (λ=355 nm) of 10 ps duration with 0.5 mW average power at 150 MHz repetition rate. A different set of adjustments gave rise to a Q-switched mode-locked regime. Trains of hundred UV pulses of 60 ps duration and 4 W peak power were produced in this latter case at 50 kHz repetition rate. We report on a passively Q-switched diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser polarized along the a axis (corresponding to the smallest value of emission cross section at 1064 nm), generating 157-μJ pulses with 6.0-ns time duration (>20 kW peak power) and 3.6 W of average power at 1064 nm with good beam quality (M2<1.4). The selection of the polarization was performed by a novel technique relying on the birefringence of the laser crystal and on the misalignment sensitivity of the resonator. 4 crystals under low-power laser diode end-pumping. Output power dependencies on the pump power and the pump wavelength of these diode-pumped solid state lasers were investigated. The high Nd3+ concentration of the Nd:KGW samples used in our measurements as well as up-conversion and exited-state absorption processes in Nd:KGW cause the reduced laser output power dependence on the pump wavelength which was experimentally observed. At pump levels up to 270 mW a slope efficiency of ηsl≈46% was reached for the Nd:KGW laser. Nd:KGW microchip laser operation with a slope efficiency of ηsl≈50% was demonstrated. Thermal lensing in Nd:KGW at pump powers up to 3 W was measured. Received: 4 August 1997  相似文献

We report on a diode-pumped passively mode-locked Nd:Gd0.64Y0.36VO4 laser with a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. Q-switched mode locking (QML) with 90% modulation depth was obtained. The peak power of the mode-locked pulse near the maximum of the Q-switched envelope was estimated to be about 1.7 MW at the pump power of 12 W. Besides QML, continuous-wave mode locking was also experimentally realized, for the first time to our knowledge, in the laser under a strong intracavity pulse energy fluence. The mode-locked pulse width is about 2.96 ps at a repetition rate of 161.3 MHz.  相似文献

Results are presented related to the use of two-photon dissociation of HgBr2 molecular vapor as a non-linear fast-opening passive mode locker of a long-pulse XeCl laser. A dye solution, with or without scatterers, is also examined for comparison. Pulses with durations below our resolution limit of 400 ps and with a modulation better than 90% are reported. The low threshold, the non-destruction and the broadband absorption causing photodissociation make this molecule useful for laser pulse compression and decoupling for many lasers in the ultraviolet region. A diode-pumped Yb3+, Er3+:YVO4 laser was Q-switched by the rotating prism method and record performance obtained. Pulse energies of up to 0.2 mJ and pulse durations as short as 60 ns were demonstrated. A model based on a system of rate equations is also described and used to explain the observed behaviour.  相似文献

CW diode pumping and FM mode locking of a Nd: KGW laser   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We have demonstrated cw diode end pumping of Nd: KGW, a novel solid-state gain medium, with up to 30% conversion efficiency into near-TEM00 (M2 < 1.05) output at = 1.067 µm for a pump level of 2.7 W. The slope efficiency was limited by intracavity reflections to 36%; however, direct comparison to a similar Nd:YAG laser indicates the same intrinsic slope efficiency of 60%. FM mode locking of this laser at 200 MHz has produced 12 ps pulses (compared to 16 ps for Nd: YAG), although an intracavity etalon was required. Considerable reduction in pulse width is possible (the line width limit is 0.5 ps) but different techniques may be necessary. Spatial hole burning was evident in both the 120 GHz free-running spectrum and the etalon-limited mode-locked spectrum.  相似文献

By simultaneously using both an acoustic-optic (AO) modulator and a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber in the cavity, for the first time, a diode-pumped doubly Q-switched Nd:GdVO4 laser has been realized. The pulse duration is obviously compressed in contrast to the actively acoustic-optic Q-switched laser. By considering the Gaussian transversal distribution of the intracavity photon density and the longitudinal distribution of the photon density along the cavity axis as well as the influence of turnoff time of the acoustic-optic (AO) Q-switch, we provide the coupled rate equations for a diode-pumped doubly Q-switched Nd:GdVO4 laser with both an acoustic-optic (AO) modulator and a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. These coupled rate equations are solved numerically, and the dependence of pulse width, pulse energy and peak power on the incident pump power at different pulse repetition rates is obtained. The numerical solutions of equations agree well with the experimental results. This revised version was published online in August 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

We describe a comparative study related to an influence of a feedback coupling on operating characteristics of a cw Cr3+:LiSrAlF6 (Cr3+:LiSAF) laser using an end-coupled fiber grating with different coupling configurations. To achieve a compact construction, a direct butt-coupling of the fiber grating at the pump end of the Cr3+:LiSAF laser and pumping through the same fiber was considered. The feedback provided by the coupled fiber grating through an end mirror was responsible for a spectrally narrowed output with a slope efficiency of 11%. However, the performance critically depended on an amount of the feedback coupling. The feedback-coupling condition was improved considerably by using a lens-coupled fiber grating at the pump end of the Cr3+:LiSAF crystal. A spectrally narrowed output of ≈0.15 cm-1 was obtained, and the output slope efficiency was measured as 27%. Theoretical modeling was also performed to understand the effect of the feedback coupling and the results agreed well with the experimental observations. A high-repetition-rate eye-safe optical parametric oscillator (OPO), using a non-critically phase-matched KTP crystal intracavity pumped by an acousto-optically (AO) Q-switchedNd:YVO4 laser, is experimentally demonstrated. It is found that the average OPO signal power at 1573 nm can be efficiently increased by increasing the pulse repetition rate. Moreover, the intracavity OPO process effectively shortens the pulse width so that it is in the range 5∼8 ns for pulse repetition rates of 10 to 80 kHz. As a result of the relatively short pulse, the peak power at 1573 nm is higher than 2 kW at a pulse repetition rate of 80 kHz.
