A novel Y‐type poly[iminocarbonyloxyethyl‐5‐methyl‐4‐{2‐thiazolylazo‐4‐(1,2,2‐tricyanovinyl)}resorcinoxyethyloxycarbonylimino‐(3,3′‐dimethoxy‐4,4′‐biphenylene)] 4 containing 5‐methyl‐4‐{5‐(1,2,2‐tricyanovinyl)‐2‐thiazolylazo}resorcinoxy groups as nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores, which constitute part of the polymer backbone, was prepared and characterized. Polyurethane 4 is soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and N,N‐dimethylformamide. It showed a thermal stability up to 250 °C in thermogravimetric analysis thermogram and the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) obtained from differential scanning calorimetry thermogram was around 118 °C. The second harmonic generation coefficient (d33) of poled polymer films at 1560 nm fundamental wavelength was around 8.43 × 10?9 esu. The dipole alignment exhibited a thermal stability even at 12 °C higher than Tg, and there was no SHG decay below 130 °C due to the partial main‐chain character of the polymer structure, which is acceptable for NLO device applications. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the characterization of copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and 2‐propenoic acid, 2‐methyl‐, 2‐[[[[4‐methyl‐3‐[[(2‐methyl‐4‐nitrophenyl)amino]carbonyl]aminophenyl]carbonyl]oxy]ethyl ester (PAMEE) exhibiting nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. The linear copolymer, poly(MMA‐co‐PAMEE), with a NLO chromophore incorporated into PAMME exhibits a high glass transition temperature of 131°C, as determined by DSC. The thin films of copolymers, which were cast on microscopic glass slides, were optically transparent, and the corona poled polymers produced relatively large and stable second harmonic generation (SHG) signals at room temperature. The nonlinear coefficient d33 of the crosslinked copolymer containing 30 wt % PAMEE was 30.8 pm/V. The SHG signal strength remained unchanged, even after 120 days, and exhibited excellent thermal stability at 65°C. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Two-component simultaneous interpenetrating networks (IPN) of thepoly(4′-[[2-(methylacryloxy)ethyl]ethylamino]-4-nitroazobenzene-co-methyl meth-acrylate) (PDR1MA-co-MMA)/poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) system, the PDR1MA/PPO system and 4′-[[2-(acetoxy)ethyl]ethylamino]-4-nitroazo benzene (ACDR1) doped MMA/PPO system were synthesized and characterized. As studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) the full IPNs of the PDR1MA-co-MMA/PPO system and the PDR1MA/PPO system showed a single Tg varying with the PPO composition. A single-phase morphology of the full IPNs was also indicated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Transparent films were cast onto clean microscopic glass slides and poled at 190°C for 1 h. The UV-VIS absorption spectra of the three IPN systems before and after curing and corona poling showed a shift in the maximum absorption due to the induced alignment of the nonlinear optical chromophores in the IPN systems. The absorption intensity of the full IPNs remained same after heating at 120°C for 72 h, indicating that the electric field-induced alignment is stable in the full IPN materials. Preliminary second harmonic generation (SHG) data on these IPNs are presented. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 36: 553–561, 1998  相似文献

Bismaleimide (BMI) resins with good thermal stability, fire resistance, low water absorption, and good retention of mechanical properties at elevated temperatures, especially in hot/wet environments, have attracted more attention in the electronic and aerospace industries. However, their relatively high dielectric constant limits their application in the aforementioned fields. In this work, a new promising approach is presented that consists of the formation of a self‐catalytic thermoset/thermoset interpenetrating polymer network. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) based on modified BMI resin (BMI/DBA) and cyanate ester (b10) were synthesized via prepolymerization followed by thermal curing. The self‐catalytic curing mechanism of BMI/DBA‐CE IPN resin systems was examined by differential scanning calorimetry. The dielectric properties of the cured BMI/DBA‐CE IPN resin systems were evaluated by a dielectric analyzer and shown in dielectric properties‐temperature‐log frequency three‐dimensional plots. The effect of temperature and frequency on the dielectric constant of the cured BMI/DBA‐CE IPN resin systems is discussed. The composition effect on the dielectric constant of the cured IPN resin systems was analyzed on the basis of Maxwell's equation and rule of mixture. The obtained BMI/DBA‐CE IPN resin systems have the combined advantages of low dielectric constant and loss, high‐temperature resistance, and good processability, which have many applications in the microelectronic and aerospace industries. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, semi‐interpenetrating gels of poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) and methylcellulose were successfully synthesized by using the Frontal Polymerization (FP) technique. The gels were obtained in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide and trihexyltetradecylphosphonium persulfate, as polymerization solvent and radical initiator, respectively, hence avoiding the formation of bubbles during polymerization. Then, some of the gels containing dimethyl sulfoxide were thoroughly washed with water, hence obtaining the corresponding hydrogels. The effects of the ratio between poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) and methylcellulose, the amount of crosslinker and solvent medium (i.e., dimethyl sulfoxide and water) were thoroughly studied, assessing the influence of temperature and velocity of FP fronts on the glass transition temperature values (dried samples), on the swelling behavior and on the dynamic‐mechanical properties (gels swollen both in water and dimethyl sulfoxide). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermal transitions of benzene in a hydrophobic polymer network have been explained by us in terms of the phase diagram of the polymer‐solvent system. In this work, we executed a similar study on copolymers and interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) with controllable hydrophilic/hydrophobic ratios. Copolymers and IPNs were swollen with different amounts of benzene and subjected to cooling and heating scans with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Synthesis of the IPNs was carried out in such a way that phase separation appeared, and three qualitatively different types of DSC thermograms were identified depending on the benzene content of IPN. Thermal transitions of benzene in the hydrophilic/hydrophobic copolymers can also be explained as a consequence of the phase diagram of the system, but an increase in the glass‐transition temperature of the system can be correlated with the interactions among the hydrophilic groups of the copolymer. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) based on polyurethane and polyacrylate-containing 4-(4'-nitrophenylazo) aniline chromophore groups were synthesized and characterized by infrared spectra, gel content and differential scanning calorimetry. Thin, transparent films of the IPNs were prepared by spin-coating, followed by thermal curing and corona poling. The poled IPN film shows very good optical properties and exhibits only one glass transition temperature. The second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of the poled film were studied by visible light absorbance measurement according to one-dimensional rigid oriented gas model. The second-order nonlinear optical polarizability can reach 10-7 e.s.u. The poled IPN film of defined composition showed a good temporal stability of NLO properties at 120°C for more than 160 hr.  相似文献

Quadratic nonlinear optical properties for the crystalline powders of two types of ruthenium-bipyridine [Ru(bipy)3] complexes were investigated. The nonlinear optical processes markedly depended on the molecular structures of the ruthenium complexes. Second harmonic generation (SHG) and very weak two-photon emission were observed for the alkylated ruthenium-bipyridine compexes with two long alkyl chains attached via amide bonds (RuCnB), whereas only two-photon emission was observed for Ru(bipy)3. The existence of two amide bonds in one bipyridine ligand for RuCnB complexes most probably enhanced the molecular hyperpolarizability as compared with Ru(bipy)3. The SHG intensity from RuCnB complexes increased in the order RuC18B < RuC12B < RuC16B. The order of SHG intensity from RuCnB was ascribed to the difference in size of each crystalline powder estimated by X-ray diffraction methods.  相似文献

A series of dicyanomethylene‐substituted polymers having Y‐type molecular architecture were synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation reaction. The polymers were found to be soluble in organic solvents like tetrahydrofuran and chloroform. From gel permeation chromatography, the molecular weights of the polymers were found to be in the range of 15,300–33,800 g/mol. Thermal analysis showed that the polymers were stable up to 350 °C with glass transition temperature (Tg) in the range of 129–212 °C. These polymers were found to form good optical quality films. The order parameter was calculated to be in the range of 0.01–0.48. Atomic force microscopy indicated prominent morphology changes due to alignment of dipoles after poling. By using Nd:YAG laser of 1064 nm, angular dependence and temperature dependence of second‐harmonic generation intensity were investigated. The geometry optimization, shape of polymers, and restricted torsion angle between acceptor and donor substituents (push–pull system) were calculated. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Semi-IPNs on the basis of PU prepolymers with carboxylic groups and methacrylic copolymers with tertiary amine groups were synthesized. The influence of the functional group content and of the Mn of polymer components, as well as their ratio, on the morphology and mechanical properties were investigated. The miscibility in the systems was estimated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The miscibility of components was increased by augmenting the content of the functional groups. By varying the ratio of components, the highest miscibility was found at the isoelectric ratio of functional groups. However, all the investigated IPNs were two-phase systems, due to the segmented structure of PU prepolymers. The lowering of Mn values of the starting components did not improve their compatibility. The mechanical properties of semi-IPNs changed with the increased concentration of functional groups in a way that is typical for ionomers. By physical interactions between functional groups, Young's modulus was most influenced, while the Mn of the polymethacrylic component influenced the tensile strength of IPNs. The compatibility between PU hard segments and the polymethacrylic component found in our experiments led us to the conclusion that the preparation of IPNs of finer morphology would be possible by using PU prepolymers with shorter soft segments. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

There has been a tremendous recent interest in the development of second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) polymeric materials for photonic applications. However, a major drawback of second-order NLO polymers that prevents them from being used in device applications is the instability of their electric field induced dipolar alignment. The randomization of the dipole orientation leads to the decay of second-order optical nonlinearities. Numerous efforts have been made to increase the stability of the second-order NLO properties of polymers. The search for new approaches to develop NLO polymers with optimal properties has been an active research area since the past decade. A novel approach, combining the hybrid properties of high glass transition temperatures, extensively extensively crosslinked networks and permanent entanglements, based on interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) is introduced to develop stable second-order NLO materials. Two types of IPN systems are prepared and their properties are investigated. The designing criteria and the rationale for the selection of polymers are discussed. The IPN samples show excellent temporal stability at elevated temperatures. Long-term stability of the optical nonlinearity at 100°C has been observed in these materials. Temporal stability of the NLO properties of these IPNs is synergistically enhanced. Relaxation behavior of the optical nonlinearity of an IPN system has been studied and compared with that of a typical guest/host system. The improved temporal stability of the second-order NLO properties of this IPN system is a result of the combination of the high rigidity of the polymer backbones, crosslinked matrices and permanent entanglements of the polymer networks. A slight modification of the chemical structure resulted in an improvement of the optical quality of the sample.  相似文献

Grafted semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were prepared from polyurethane (PU) prepolymers with polyester soft segments and hard segments containing carboxylic functional groups as well as polymethacrylate (PM) prepolymers with tertiary amine functional groups. The dependence of morphological and mechanical properties on the concentration of functional groups was studied. The enhanced miscibility of PU and PM prepolymers was observed at concentrations of functional groups of 0.25 mmol/g of polymer and above. Despite the improved miscibility, the PM prepolymers showed a tendency toward phase separation. Because the observed glass‐transition temperature shifts of PU prepolymers indicated substantial miscibility, we ascribed this phenomenon to the presence of methyl methacrylate rich sequences in the PM prepolymer. The observed changes in mechanical properties by increasing the content of functional groups were typical for ionomers. Young's modulus increased as a result of physical interactions between functional groups. A significant drop in tensile strength was observed in IPN samples with phase‐separated PU and PM prepolymers. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
