The interaction of methylene blue (MB) dye with natural coal (collected from coal landfills of the Kosovo Energy Corporation) in aqueous solutions was studied using adsorption, kinetics, and thermodynamic data, and Monte Carlo (MC) calculations. In a batch procedure, the effects of contact duration, initial MB concentration, pH, and solution temperature on the adsorption process were examined. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) isotherms were used to examine the equilibrium adsorption data. The equilibrium data fit well to the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models; however, the Freundlich model suited the adsorption data to a slightly better extent than the Langmuir model. The kinetics experimental data was fitted using pseudo-first-order, first-order, pseudo-second-order, second-order, Elvoich equation, and diffusion models. The pseudo-second-order rate model manifested a superlative fit to the experimental data, while the adsorption of MB onto coal is regulated by both liquid film and intraparticle diffusions at the same time. Thermodynamic parameters, such as Gibbs free energy (ΔG0), enthalpy (ΔH0), and entropy (ΔS0) were calculated. The adsorption of MB was confirmed to be spontaneous and endothermic. The theoretical results were in agreement with the experimental ones.  相似文献

Adsorption of acid dyes from aqueous solutions onto acid-activated bentonite   总被引:16,自引:0,他引:16
The adsorption of two dyes, namely, Acid Red 57 (AR57) and Acid Blue 294 (AB294), onto acid-activated bentonite in aqueous solution was studied in a batch system with respect to contact time, pH, and temperature. Acidic pH was favorable for the adsorption of these dyes. The surface characterization of acid-activated bentonite was performed using the FTIR technique. The pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models and the intraparticle diffusion model were used to describe the kinetic data and the rate constants were evaluated. The dynamic data fitted the pseudo-second-order kinetic model well and also followed the intraparticle diffusion model up to 90 min, but diffusion is not the only rate controlling step. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were determined. The Freundlich model agrees very well with experimental data. The activation energies of adsorption were also evaluated for the adsorption of AR57 and AB294 onto activated bentonite.  相似文献

Hydrogel beads based on the husk of agarwood fruit (HAF)/sodium alginate (SA), and based on the HAF/chitosan (CS) were developed for the removal of the dyes, crystal violet (CV) and reactive blue 4 (RB4), in aqueous solutions, respectively. The effects of the initial pH (2–10) of the dye solution, the adsorbent dosage (0.5–3.5 g/L), and contact time (0–540 min) were investigated in a batch system. The dynamic adsorption behavior of CV and RB4 can be represented well by the pseudo-second-order model and pseudo-first-order model, respectively. In addition, the adsorption isotherm data can be explained by the Langmuir isotherm model. Both hydrogel beads have acceptable adsorption selectivity and reusability for the study of selective adsorption and regeneration. Based on the effectiveness, selectivity, and reusability of these hydrogel beads, they can be treated as potential adsorbents for the removal of dyes in aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Based on the abundance of seed-watermelon pulp (SWP) in Xinjiang, China, SWP was employed to prepare low-cost adsorbent toward the removal of methylene blue (MB). The effects of contact time at different initial concentration were studied. The widely used adsorption isotherm models including Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were employed to depict the adsorption process. The Langmuir isotherm was best fitted to the experimental data. Batch kinetic studies showed that an equilibrium time of 300 minutes was needed for the adsorption. The adsorption properties can be well described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the MB uptake was not controlled by intraparticle diffusion mechanism.  相似文献

In this study, the optimal conditions for the fabrication of polyethylenimine/polyvinyl chloride cross-linked fiber (PEI/PVC-CF) were determined by comparing the adsorption capacity of synthesized PEI/PVC-CFs for Reactive Yellow 2 (RY2). The PEI/PVC-CF prepared through the optimal conditions was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyses. Several batch adsorption and desorption experiments were carried out to evaluate the sorption performance and reusability of PEI/PVC-CF for RY2. As a result, the adsorption of RY2 by PEI/PVC-CF was most effective at pH 2.0. A pseudo-second-order model fit better with the kinetics adsorption data. The adsorption isotherm process was described well by the Langmuir model, and the maximum dye uptake was predicted to be 820.6 mg/g at pH 2.0 and 25 °C. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. In addition, 1.0 M NaHCO3 was an efficient eluent for the regeneration of RY2-loaded PEI/PVC-CF. Finally, the repeated adsorption–desorption experiments showed that the PEI/PVC-CF remained at high adsorption and desorption efficiencies for RY2, even in 17 cycles.  相似文献

Removal of steroid hormones from aqueous environment is of prevailing concern because of their adverse impact on organisms. Using biochar derived from biomass as adsorbent to remove pollutants has become more popular due to its low cost, effectiveness, and sustainability. This study evaluated the feasibility of applying corn straw biochar (CSB) and dewatered sludge biochar (DSB) to reduce 17β-estradiol (E2) from aquatic solutions by adsorption. The experimental results showed that the adsorption kinetics and isotherm behavior of E2 on the two biochars were well described by the pseudo-second-order (R2 > 0.93) and Langmuir models (R2 > 0.97). CSB has higher E2 adsorption capacity than DSB, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 99.8 mg/g obtained from Langmuir model at 298 K, which can be attributed to the higher surface area, porosity, and hydrophobicity of this adsorbent. Higher pH levels (>10.2) decreased the adsorption capacities of biochar for E2, while the ionic strength did not significantly affect the adsorption process. The regeneration ability of CSB was slightly better than that of DSB. The possible adsorption mechanism for E2 on biochar is suggested as π–π interactions, H–bonding, and micropores filling. These results indicated that CSB has more potential and application value than DSB on reducing E2 from aqueous solutions when considering economy and removal performance.  相似文献

The organo-attapulgite was prepared using hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HTMAB) with equation equivalent ratio of HTMAB to CEC of attapulgite added and then used as adsorbent for the removal of Congo red (CR) anionic dye from aqueous solution. Adsorbent characterizations were investigated using infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The effects of contact time, temperature, pH and initial dye concentration on organo-attapulgite adsorption for CR were investigated. The results show that the amount adsorbed of CR on the organo-attapulgite increase with increasing dye concentration, temperature, and by decreasing pH. The adsorption kinetics was studied with the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion models, and the rate constants were evaluated. It was found that the adsorption mechanisms in the dye/organo-attapulgite system follow pseudo-second-order kinetics with a significant contribution of film diffusion. Equilibrium data fitted perfectly with Langmuir isotherm model compared to Freundlich isotherm model, and the maximum adsorption capacity was 189.39 mg g−1 for the adsorbent. Kinetic and desorption studies both suggest that chemisorption should be the major mode of CR removal by the organo-attapulgite. The results indicate that HTMAB-modified attapulgite could be employed as low-cost material for the removal of Congo red anionic dye from wastewater.  相似文献

Magnetic composite adsorbent (MCA) was prepared successfully using laterite nickel ore. The effectiveness of MCA as an adsorbent was evaluated for removal trimethylamine from aqueous environment. In this technological route, the utilization of solid wastes, wastewater treatment and adsorbent recovery were considered comprehensively. The MCA was characterized by techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, VSM and adsorption-desorption of nitrogen at 77 K. The adsorption processes were best described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and controlled by intraparticle and surface diffusion processes. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to match the adsorption equilibrium data. Freundlich isotherm was the best fitting curve for the sorption equilibrium data. The adsorption mechanism was further interpreted by Gibbs free energy, entropy and enthalpy calculated by thermodynamic equation. The negative values of Gibbs free energy changes (ΔG) manifest that the adsorbing process is spontaneous. The results show that laterite nickel ore can be made into MCA for organic amine removal from polluted water.  相似文献

The removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using Alligator weed, a freshwater macrophyte, was investigated in batch studies. Various factors including solution pH, Cr (VI) concentrations, agitation time, and temperature were taken into account and promising results obtained. An initial solution pH of 1.0 was most favorable for Cr (VI) removal. The kinetic data were analyzed using several models, including the pseudo-second-order equation, external diffusion model, and intraparticle diffusion model. The comparison gave insight about the mechanism of adsorption and potential rate controlling step. The results suggested that the Cr (VI) adsorption at all temperatures was best represented by the pseudo-second-order equation. The external film diffusion played an important role in the adsorption mechanism. The Freundlich, Langmuir and Langmuir-Freundlich isotherms for the present system were analyzed. The best interpretation for the equilibrium data at different temperatures was given by the Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm. The Alligator weed could serve as low-cost adsorbent to remove Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The adsorption of Reactive Red 141 over the pressed and calcined pellets of TiHAp and HAp was investigated by using continuous reflux system. Langmuir isotherm model was found to be the best model to describe the equilibrium data, with maximum adsorption capacity of 20.62 and 28.41 (mg g?1) for HAp and TiHAp, respectively. Kinetics data was best described by the pseudo-second-order model and intraparticle diffusion determined as sole controlling step of adsorption process. Possible mechanisms of the adsorption dye on the HAp and TiHAp were discussed.  相似文献

The sorptive potential of some lignocellulosic agro-industrial wastes (sunflower seed shells and corn cob) for Basic Blue 9 cationic dye removal from aqueous solutions was examined using the batch technique. The Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models were used in order to determine the quantitative parameters of sorption. The Langmuir isotherm model indicated a maximum sorption capacity for these materials in the range of 40–50 mg dye per g (25°C), slightly higher for corn cob than for sunflower seed shells. The values of the thermodynamic parameters showed that the retention of cationic dye is a spontaneous and endothermic process. The application of pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order intraparticle diffusion models, and a Boyd — Reichenberg model for kinetic data interpretation suggested that sorption of Basic Blue 9 dye onto the studied materials is a process where both surface sorption and intraparticle diffusion contributed to the rate-limiting step. These lignocellulosic wastes can be used with good efficiency for dye removal from aqueous effluents.   相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of initial pH value (pH0) on the isothermal adsorption of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) dye on commercial powdered activated carbon. Four initial pH values were chosen for this experiment: pH0 = 2.00, 4.00, 8.00, and 10.00. In order to investigate the mechanism of adsorption kinetic, studies have been performed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models as well as an intraparticle diffusion model. In addition, thermodynamic parameters of adsorption were determined for pH0 = 4.00. Results of this research showed that the initial pH value significantly influences the adsorption of RB5 dye onto activated carbon. The highest adsorption capacities (qe) and efficiencies of decolouration were observed for initial pH values of pH0 = 2.00 (qe = 246.0 mg g−1) and 10.00 (qe = 239.1 mg g−1) due to strong electrostatic interactions and attractive π···π interactions, respectively. It was also shown that the adsorption of RB5 dye on activated carbon at all initial pH values is kinetically controlled, assuming a pseudo-second-order model, and that intraparticle diffusion is not the only process that influences on the adsorption rate.  相似文献

Adsorption of Cu(II) from aqueous solution onto H(3)PO(4)-activated carbon using rubber wood sawdust (RSAC) was investigated in a batch system. Kinetic and isotherm studies were carried out by considering the effects of various parameters, such as initial concentration, contact time, pH, and temperature. The optimal pH value for Cu(II) adsorption onto RSAC was found to be 6.0. Thermodynamic parameters such as standard Gibbs free energy (DeltaG(0)), standard enthalpy (DeltaH(0)), and standard entropy (DeltaS(0)) were evaluated by applying the Van't Hoff equation. The thermodynamics of Cu(II) adsorption onto RSAC indicates its spontaneous and exothermic nature. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were used to analyze the equilibrium data at different temperatures. The Langmuir isotherm fits the experimental data significantly better than the other isotherms. Adsorption kinetics data were tested using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models. Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption followed a pseudo-second-order reaction. The initial sorption rate, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion rate constants for different initial concentrations were evaluated and discussed. Adsorption mechanism studies revealed that the process was complex and followed both surface adsorption and particle diffusion. The rate-controlling parameter and effective diffusion coefficient were determined using the Reichenberg plot. It was found that the adsorption occurs through film diffusion at low concentrations and at higher concentration the particle diffusion becomes the rate-determining step.  相似文献

The presence of cationic dyes, even in a tiny amount, is harmful to aquatic life and pollutes the environment. Therefore, it is essential to remove these hazardous dyes to protect the life of marine creatures from these pollutants. In this research, crystal violet (CV) dye elimination was performed using a lignin copper ferrite (LCF) adsorbent. The adsorbent was synthesized and characterized using FTIR, Raman, SEM, EDX with mapping, and VSM, which proved the successful formation of magnetic LCF. Adsorption experiments were performed using different effective parameters. The highest adsorption potential (97%) was executed at mild operating conditions, with a 5 min contact time at room temperature and pH 8. The adsorption kinetic study utilized four kinetic models: first-order, second-order, intraparticle diffusion, and Elovich. The results revealed that the adsorption process complies with the pseudo-first-order with a maximum adsorption capacity of 34.129 mg/g, proving that the adsorption process mechanism is a physical adsorption process. Three isotherm models, Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin, were examined. The adsorption mechanism of CV onto LCF was also followed by the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The thermodynamic parameters were examined and revealed that the adsorption onto LCF was an exothermic process. It was proposed that the adsorption process is a spontaneous exothermic process. LCF appears to forcefully remove toxic CV dye from textile wastewater.  相似文献

Adsorption of Promethazine hydrochloride (PHCl) onto KSF Montmorillonite from aqueous solution has been investigated. Experiments were conducted at various pH values, ionic backgrounds and solution temperatures. The pseudo-second-order equation successfully predicted the adsorption among the tried kinetics models (pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intraparticle diffusion). Langmuir, Freundlich and DR adsorption models were used to describe equilibrium isotherms and the isotherm constants were obtained. The increase in solution temperature caused a decrease in the adsorption capacity values found from Freundlich and DR isotherm. The adsorption type can be explained by combined ion exchange and physisorption. Thermodynamic parameters of adsorption of Promethazine hydrochloride (PHCl) onto KSF were also evaluated. The surface morphologies of KSF and PHCl loaded KSF were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). FTIR measurements of samples were also conducted.  相似文献

Ti3C2Tx MXene has attracted considerable interest as a new emerging two-dimensional material for environmental remediation due to its high adsorption capacity. However, its use is greatly limited by its poor mechanical properties, low processability and recyclability, and the low dispersity of such powder materials. In this work, a porous adsorbent (C–CMP) containing cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), Ti3C2Tx MXene and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was prepared by a simple and environmentally-friendly foaming method. Glutaraldehyde was used as crosslinker to improve the mechanical properties and boost the adsorption efficiency of methylene blue (MB) molecules. Fourier transform infrared (FT–IR), elemental analysis (EDX) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) further confirmed that the preparation of the C–CMP foam and cross-linking reaction were successful. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) indicated that the macropores were distributed homogeneously. The adsorption experiment showed that maximum adsorption capacity of MB can reach 239.92 mg·g−1 which was much higher than anionic dye (methyl orange, 45.25 mg·g−1). The adsorption behavior fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. Based on FT–IR, EDX and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, the adsorption mechanism between C–CMP and MB molecules was attributed to electrostatic interaction.  相似文献

Microporous- and mesoporous-activated carbons were produced from longan seed biomass through physical activation with CO2 under the same activation conditions of time and temperature. The specially prepared mesoporous carbon showed the maximum porous properties with the specific surface area of 1773 m2/g and mesopore volume of 0.474 cm3/g which accounts for 44.1% of the total pore volume. These activated carbons were utilized as porous adsorbents for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from an aqueous solution and their effectiveness was evaluated for both the adsorption kinetics and capacity. The adsorption kinetic data of MB were analyzed by the pseudo-first-order model, the pseudo-second-order model, and the pore-diffusion model equations. It was found that the adsorption kinetic behavior for all carbons tested was best described by the pseudo-second-order model. The effective pore diffusivity (De) derived from the pore-diffusion model had the values of 4.657 × 10−7–6.014 × 10−7 cm2/s and 4.668 × 10−7–19.920 × 10−7 cm2/s for the microporous- and mesoporous-activated carbons, respectively. Three well-known adsorption models, namely the Langmuir, Freundlich and Redlich–Peterson equations were tested with the experimental MB adsorption isotherms, and the results showed that the Redlich–Peterson model provided the overall best fitting of the isotherm data. In addition, the maximum capacity for MB adsorption of 1000 mg/g was achieved with the mesoporous carbon having the largest surface area and pore volume. The initial pH of MB solution had virtually no effect on the adsorption capacity and removal efficiency of the methylene blue dye. Increasing temperature over the range from 35 to 55 °C increased the adsorption of methylene blue, presumably caused by the increase in the diffusion rate of methylene blue to the adsorption sites that could promote the interaction frequency between the adsorbent surface and the adsorbate molecules. Overall, the high surface area mesoporous carbon was superior to the microporous carbon in view of the adsorption kinetics and capacity, when both carbons were used for the removal of MB from an aqueous solution.  相似文献

The adsorption of isomaltotriose from aqueous solution on Ca2+ resin was investigated. The adsorption isotherm and the rate curve were determined. The pseudo-first-order model,pseudo-second-order model and the intraparticle diffusion model were used to predict the rate constants of adsorption. The activation energy of adsorption has been also evaluated using the pseudo-second-order rate constants. The results showed that the adsorption of isomaltotriose onto Ca2+ resin is an exothermically activated process. The adsorption isotherm can be described by Langmuir equation. The pseudo-second-order model can fit well to the adsorption rate curve of isomaltotriose onto Ca2+ resin. It suggests that the adsorption of isomoltotriose onto Ca2+ resin involve chemical adsorption.  相似文献

This study evaluated the feasibility of Rhodamine-B dye (Rh B) removal from aqueous solution, using Lead-Iron Oxide nanoparticles Loaded Activated Carbon (FePbO@AC). The parameters like pH, contact time, adsorbent/adsorbate dosage and temperature on adsorption was studied. Optimized conditions are pH of 7.0, 25?min contact time, 50?ppm of dye concentration and 200?mg of adsorbent concentration. The kinetics of adsorption was calculated using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intra-particle diffusion models. The calculations revealed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation best-fit the adsorption data. The Langmuir isotherm model best fit the equilibrium data. The maximum sorption capacity (Qmax) for dye is 1000?mg Rh B/g FePbO@AC. Change in entropy (ΔS), Gibb’s free energy change (ΔG), and enthalpy (ΔH) were calculated for the adsorption of Rh B dye.  相似文献
