Dendritic multifunctional macroinitiators having 12 TEMPO‐based alkoxyamines were prepared by the reaction of a benzyl alcohol having 4 TEMPO‐based alkoxyamines with 1,3,5‐tris[(4‐chlorocarbonyl)phenyl]benzene and 1,3,5‐tris(4‐isocyanatophenyl)benzene. Using the dodecafunctional macroinitiators, TEMPO‐mediated radical polymerizations of styrene (St) were carried out at 120 °C, and 12‐arm star polymers ( star‐12 ) with narrow polydispersities of Mw/Mn = 1.06–1.26 were obtained. To evaluate the livingness for the TEMPO‐mediated radical polymerizations of St, hydrolysis of the ester bonds of the 12‐arm star polymers and subsequent SEC measurements were carried out. Furthermore, using star‐12 as the macroinitiator, TEMPO‐mediated radical polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine (4‐VP) was carried out, and well‐defined poly(St)‐b‐poly(4‐VP) 12‐arm star diblock copolymers with Mw/Mn = 1.18–1.19 were obtained. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of two well‐defined 2,2,5‐trimethyl‐4‐phenyl‐3‐azahexane‐3‐nitroxide‐terminated poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) with narrow dispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.1) has been achieved for the first time. The insertion of the alkoxyamine end groups at one or both ends of poly(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PMEOX) chains has been successfully done using a method based on “terminating reagent method.” These macroinitiators have molecular weights ranging from 6.3 × 103 to 9.4 × 103 g mol?1. In contrast, attempt to introduce the alkoxyamine group at one end of PMEOX chain through the “initiator method” has furnished a mixture of alkoxyamine‐graft polyoxazolines because of rearrangement of alkoxyamine occurring during the synthesis of PMEOX. The macroinitiators obtained by terminating reagent method have been used successfully for polymerization of styrene by nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP), which exhibited all the expected features of a controlled system. The control of NMP has been proved by a good agreement between theoretical and experimental molecular weights and by narrow dispersity (Mw/Mn < 1.2). Different types of well‐defined multiblock copolymers have been prepared: diblock copolymers poly[(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐b‐(styrene)] (PMEOX‐b‐PS) and, for the first time, triblock copolymers poly[(styrene)‐b‐(2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline)‐b‐(styrene)] (PS‐b‐PMEOX‐b‐PS). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A dendritic macroinitiator having 16 TEMPO‐based alkoxyamines, Star‐16 , was prepared by the reaction of a dendritic macroinitiator having eight TEMPO‐based alkoxyamines, [G‐3]‐OH , with 4,4′‐bis(chlorocarbonyl)biphenyl. The nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMRP) of styrene (St) from Star‐16 gave 16‐arm star polymers with PDI of 1.19–1.47, and NMPR of 4‐vinylpyridine from the 16‐arm star polymer gave 16‐arm star diblock copolymers with PDI of 1.30–1.43. The ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone from [G‐3]‐OH and the subsequent NMRP of St gave AB8 9‐miktoarm star copolymers with PDI of 1.30–1.38. The benzyl ether linkages of the 16‐arm star polymers and the AB8 9‐miktoarm star copolymers were cleaved by treating with Me3SiI, and the resultant poly(St) arms were investigated by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). The SEC results showed PDIs of 1.23–1.28 and 1.18–1.22 for the star polymers and miktoarm stars copolymers, respectively, showing that they have well‐controlled poly(St) arms. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A trifunctional initiator, 2‐phenyl‐2‐[(2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl)‐1‐piperidinyloxy] ethyl 2,2‐bis[methyl(2‐bromopropionato)] propionate, was synthesized and used for the synthesis of miktoarm star AB2 and miktoarm star block AB2C2 copolymers via a combination of stable free‐radical polymerization (SFRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in a two‐step or three‐step reaction sequence, respectively. In the first step, a polystyrene (PSt) macroinitiator with dual ω‐bromo functionality was obtained by SFRP of styrene (St) in bulk at 125 °C. Next, this PSt precursor was used as a macroinitiator for ATRP of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) in the presence of Cu(I)Br and pentamethyldiethylenetriamine at 80 °C, affording miktoarm star (PSt)(PtBA)2 [where PtBA is poly(tert‐butyl acrylate)]. In the third step, the obtained St(tBA)2 macroinitiator with two terminal bromine groups was further polymerized with methyl methacrylate by ATRP, and this resulted in (PSt)(PtBA)2(PMMA)2‐type miktoarm star block copolymer [where PMMA is poly(methyl methacrylate)] with a controlled molecular weight and a moderate polydispersity (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.38). All polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 2542–2548, 2003 相似文献

A novel hexafunctional discotic initiator, 2,3,6,7,11,12‐hexakis(2‐bromobutyryloxy)triphenylene (HBTP), was synthesized by the esterification of 2,3,6,7,11,12‐hexahydroxytriphenylene with 2‐bromobutyryl chloride. Atom transfer radical polymerizations of styrene, methyl acrylate, and n‐butyl acrylate were carried out in 50 vol % tetrahydrofuran with HBTP/copper(I) bromide/2,2′‐bipyridyl as an initiation system. The polymers produced had well‐controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (<1.2). On the basis of 1H NMR spectra of the star polymer and its hydrolyzed products, we can conclude that the initiator quantitatively initiated the polymerization of vinyl monomers and that a star polymer with a discotic core was obtained. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) star polymer with a microgel core was prepared by atom transfer radical poylmerization (ATRP) of divinyl benzene (DVB) with mono‐2‐bromoisobutyryl PEO ester as a macroinitiator. Several factors, such as the feed ratio of DVB to the initiator, type of catalysts, and purity of DVB, play important roles during star formation. The crosslinked poly(divinyl benzene) (PDVB) core was further obtained by the hydrolysis of PEO star to remove PEO arms. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) traces revealed the bare core has a broad molecular weight distribution. PEO–polystyrene (PS) heteroarm star polymer was synthesized through grafting PS from the core of PEO star by another ATRP of styrene (St) because of the presence of initiating groups in the core inherited from PEO star. Characterizations by SEC, 1H NMR, and DSC revealed the successful preparation of the target star copolymers. Scanning electron microscopy images suggested that PEO–PS heteroarm star can form spherical micelles in water/tetrahydrofuran mixture solvents, which further demonstrated the amphiphilic nature of the star polymer. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization of styrene was carried out on the surfaces of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) initiated by an MWNT‐supported initiator multiwalled carbon nanotube–2″,2″,6″,6″‐tetramethylpiperidinyloxy (MWNT–Tempo). The content of polystyrene grafted from the surface was controlled by changes in the polymerization conditions, such as the reaction times or the ratios of monomers to initiators. The obtained polystyrene‐grafted multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT–PSs) were further used to initiate the polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine to get polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine)‐grafted multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT–PS‐b‐P4VPs). In contrast to unmodified MWNTs, MWNT–PSs had relatively good dispersibility in various organic solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran, CHCL3, and o‐dichlorobenzene. The structures and properties of MWNT–PSs and MWNT–PS‐b‐P4VPs were characterized and studied with several methods, including thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared, ultraviolet–visible, and transmission electron microscopy. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report a simple preparation of three‐armed (A3‐type) star polymers based on the arm‐first technique, using a click‐reaction strategy between a well‐defined azide‐end‐functionalized polystyrene, poly(tert‐butyl acrylate), or poly(ethylene glycol) precursor and a trisalkyne‐functional initiator, 1,1,1‐tris[4‐(2‐propynyloxy)phenyl]ethane. The click‐reaction efficiency for A3‐type star formation has been investigated with gel permeation chromatography measurements (refractive‐index detector). The gel permeation chromatography curves have been split with the deconvolution method (Gaussian area), and the efficiency of A3‐type star formation has been found to be 87%. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of new octafunctional alkoxyamine initiators for nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMRP), by the derivatization of resorcinarene with nitroxide free radicals viz TEMPO and a freshly prepared phosphonylated nitroxide, is described. The efficiency of these initiators toward the controlled radical polymerization of styrene and tert‐butyl acrylate is investigated in detail. Linear analogues of these multifunctional initiators were also prepared to compare and evaluate their initiation efficiency. The favorable conditions for polymerization were optimized by varying the concentration of initiators and free nitroxides, reaction conditions, etc., to obtain well‐defined star polymers. Star polystyrene thus obtained were further used as macro‐initiator for the block copolymerization with tert‐butyl acrylate. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymeric microspheres were prepared from a Merrifield resin via nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization. Polystyrene, poly(acetoxystyrene), and poly[styrene‐b‐(methyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene)], poly(acetoxystyrene‐b‐styrene), and poly(styrene‐co‐2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) copolymers were demonstrated to graft onto 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy nitroxide bound Merrifield resins. The polymerization control was enhanced both on the surface and in solution by the addition of sacrificial nitroxide. The significant increase in the particle diameter (more than a fivefold volume increase for polystyrene brushes) showed that polymer growth was not only on the surface but also within the particles, and this diameter increase could be adjusted through changes in the molecular weight of the polymers. The microspheres were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, particle size analysis, and optical microscopy. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of 4-arm methyl methacrylate star polymer had been achieved successfully by atom transfer radical polymerization
using CuCl as catalyst, 2, 2′-bipyridyl as ligand and pentaerythritol tetrakis (2-bromoisobutyrate) as the initiator. The
star polymer was characterized by 1H-NMR and GPC, by which the precise 4-arm structure of the PMMA was confirmed.

Styrene radical polymerizations mediated by the imidazolidinone nitroxides 2,5‐bis(spirocyclohexyl)‐3‐methylimidazolidin‐4‐one‐1‐oxyl (NO88Me) and 2,5‐bis(spirocyclohexyl)‐3‐benzylimidazolidin‐4‐one‐1‐oxyl (NO88Bn) were investigated. Polymeric alkoxyamine (PS‐NO88Bn)‐initiated systems exhibited controlled/living characteristics at 100–120 °C but not at 80 °C. All systems exhibited rates of polymerization similar to those of thermal polymerization, with the exception of the PS‐NO88Bn system at 80 °C, which polymerized twice as quickly. The dissociation rate constants (kd) for the PS‐NO88Me and PS‐NO88Bn coupling products were determined by electron spin resonance at 50–100 °C. The equilibrium constants were estimated to be 9.01 × 10?11 and 6.47 × 10?11 mol L?1 at 120 °C for NO88Me and NO88Bn, respectively, resulting in the combination rate constants (kc) 2.77 × 106 (NO88Me) and 2.07 × 106 L mol?1 s?1 (NO88Bn). The similar polymerization results and kinetic parameters for NO88Me and NO88Bn indicated the absence of any 3‐N‐transannular effect by the benzyl substituent relative to the methyl substituent. The values of kd and kc were 4–8 and 25–33 times lower, respectively, than the reported values for PS‐TEMPO at 120 °C, indicating that the 2,5‐spirodicyclohexyl rings have a more profound effect on the combination reaction rather than the dissociation reaction. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4‐Arm star side‐chain liquid crystalline (LC) polymers containing azobenzene with different terminal substituents were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Tetrafunctional initiator prepared by the esterification between pentaerythritol and 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide was utilized to initiate the polymerization of 6‐[4‐(4‐methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl methacrylate (MMAzo) and 6‐[4‐(4‐ethoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl methacrylate (EMAzo), respectively. The 4‐arm star side‐chain LC polymer with p‐methoxyazobenzene moieties exhibits a smectic and a nematic phase, while that with p‐ethoxyazobenzene moieties shows only a nematic phase, which derives of different terminal substituents. The star polymers have similar LC behavior to the corresponding linear homopolymers, whereas transition temperatures decrease slightly. Both star polymers show photoresponsive isomerization under the irradiation with UV–vis light. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 3342–3348, 2007 相似文献

Vinyl acetate and vinyl chloroacetate were copolymerized in the presence of a bis(trifluoro‐2,4‐pentanedionato)cobalt(II) complex and 2,2′‐azobis(4‐methoxy‐2,4‐dimethylvaleronitrile) at 30 °C, forming a cobalt‐capped poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐vinyl chloroacetate). The addition of 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy after a certain degree of copolymerization was reached afforded 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy‐terminated poly(vinyl acetate‐co‐vinyl chloroacetate) (PVOAc–MI; number‐average molecular weight = 31,000, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.24). A 1H NMR study of the resulting PVOAc–MI revealed quantitative terminal 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy functionality and the presence of 5.5 mol % vinyl chloroacetate in the copolymer. The atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St) was studied with ethyl chloroacetate as a model initiator and five different Cu‐based catalysts. Catalysts with bis(2‐pyridylmethyl)octadecylamine (BPMODA) or tris(2‐pyridylmethyl)amine (TPMA) ligands provided the highest initiation efficiency and best control over the polymerization of St. The grafting‐from ATRP of St from PVOAc–MI catalyzed by copper complexes with BPMODA or TPMA ligands provided poly(vinyl acetate)‐graft‐polystyrene copolymers with relatively high polydispersity (>1.5) because of intermolecular coupling between growing polystyrene (PSt) grafts. After the hydrolysis of the graft copolymers, the cleaved PSt side chains had a monomodal molecular weight distribution with some tailing toward the lower number‐average molecular weight region because of termination. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nitroxide‐mediated emulsion polymerizations of n‐butyl acrylate and styrene were performed with a monofunctional, water‐soluble alkoxyamine initiator and a difunctional one. Two different processes were applied, either in two steps or under semibatch conditions. In particular, the polymerization times were strongly reduced, while high conversions and good control over the polymer characteristics were maintained. In all cases, stable latexes were recovered; with the difunctional initiator in particular, they exhibited small particles and narrow particle size distributions. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel miktofunctional initiator ( 1 ), 2‐hydroxyethyl 3‐[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]‐2‐{[(2‐bromopropanoyl)oxy]methyl}‐2‐methyl‐propanoate, possessing one initiating site for ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and two initiating sites for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), was synthesized in a three‐step reaction sequence. The synthesis of an AB20‐type heteroarm star polymer consisting of a polystyrene arm and 20‐arms of poly(methyl methacrylate) or poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) was carried out using the combination of nitroxide‐mediated polymerization (NMP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The NMP of styrene was carried out using mono‐6‐[4‐(1′‐(2″,2″,6″,6″‐tetramethyl‐1″‐piperidinyloxy)‐ethyl)benzamido]‐β‐cyclodextrin peracetate ( 1 ) to afford end‐functionalized polystyrene with an acetylated β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CyD) unit (prepolymer 2 ) with a number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 11700 and a polydispersity (Mw/Mn) of 1.17. After deacetylation of prepolymer 2 , the resulting polymer was reacted with 2‐bromoisobutyric anhydride to give end‐functionalized polystyrene with 20(2‐bromoisobutyrol)s β‐CyD, macroinitiator 4 . The copper (I)‐mediated ATRP of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) was carried out using macroinitiator 4 . The resulting polymers were isolated by SEC fractionation to produce AB20‐type star polymers with a β‐CyD‐core, 5 . The well‐defined structure of 5 with weight‐average molecular weight (Mw)s of 13,500–65,300 and Mw/Mn's of 1.26–1.28 was demonstrated by SEC and light scattering measurements. Malononitrile (MN), trifluoroacetic acid anhydride, acetylacetone, acetoacetic ester, and diethyl malonate have been identified as novel rate‐accelerating additives for nitroxide‐mediated living free‐radical polymerization. Among these additives, MN has the greatest accelerating effect. Adding MN at an MN/2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐oxyl (TEMPO) molar ratio of 4.0 results in a nearly 20 times higher rate of polymerization of styrene (St), and adding MN at an MN/TEMPO molar ratio of 2.5 results in a nearly 15 times higher rate of copolymerization of St and methyl methacrylate. The polymerization of St proceeds in a living fashion, as indicated by the increase in the molecular weight with time and conversion and the relatively low polydispersity. The polymerization rate of St is so quick that the conversion reaches 70% within 1 h at 125 °C when the molar ratio of MN to TEMPO is 4:1. Moreover, the reaction temperature can be reduced to 110 °C. A possible explanation for this effect is that the formation of hydrogen bonds between the MN and TEMPO moiety weakens the C? ON bond at the end of the polymer chain. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and n‐butyl methacrylate (n‐BMA) was initiated by a poly(ethylene oxide) chloro telechelic macroinitiator synthesized by esterification of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) with 2‐chloro propionyl chloride. The polymerization, carried out in bulk at 90 °C and catalyzed by iron(II) chloride tetrahydrate in the presence of triphenylphosphine ligand (FeCl2 · 4H2O/PPh3), led to A–B–A amphiphilic triblock copolymers with MMA or n‐BMA as the A block and PEO as the B block. A kinetic study showed that the polymerization was first‐order with respect to the monomer concentration. Moreover, the experimental molecular weights of the block copolymers increased linearly with the monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distribution was acceptably narrow at the end of the reaction. These block copolymers turned out to be water‐soluble through the adjustment of the content of PEO blocks (PEO content >90% by mass). When the PEO content was small [monomer/macroinitiator molar ratio (M/I) = 300], the block copolymers were water‐insoluble and showed only one glass‐transition temperature. With an increase in the concentration of PEO (M/I = 100 or 50) in the copolymer, two glass transitions were detected, indicating phase separation. The macroinitiator and the corresponding triblock copolymers were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, size exclusion chromatography analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
