The Piris natural orbital functional (PNOF) based on a new approach for the two‐electron cumulant is considered for the case of high‐spin restricted open‐shell systems. The theory is applied to the calculation of molecular energies, dipole moments, vertical ionization potentials (IP), and electron affinities (EA) of 10 open‐shell molecules. Vertical values of IP and EA were used to evaluate the hardness. It was observed that the results obtained using the PNOF method are comparable to the corresponding results obtained using CCSD(T) in the case of energies and dipole moments. Best agreement between theory and experiment is achieved by PNOF for EA and hardness values. The calculated PNOF values for the mentioned properties are in good agreement with the available experimental data, considering the basis sets used (6–31 ++G**). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 3d‐Metal mononitrides are studied using the density functional theory method. The lowest spin state for these dimers is obtained using the B3LYP hybrid functional with the 6‐311+G* basis set. The equilibrium geometries, vibrational frequencies, binding energies, Mulliken, and natural orbital population analysis charges, natural orbital electronic configuration, electron affinity, and ionization potential are obtained. Mulliken as well as natural orbital population analysis charges indicate that for all dimers, in cations most of the positive charge localized on the transition metal atom where in anions most of the negative charge localized on nitrogen atom. The binding energies for 3d‐metal mononitrides are higher than those for monocarbides and monoxides. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2007  相似文献

Fluorene‐thiophene (FT)‐based oligomers and polymers and their derivatives are good candidates for organic blue light‐emitting diodes. In this work, the intrinsic properties of the ground and excited states of FT monomer and its derivatives are studied. The ground‐state optimized structures and energies are obtained using molecular orbital theory and density functional theory (DFT). The ground‐state potential energy curves or surfaces of FT and its derivatives are also obtained. All derivatives are nonplanar in their electronic ground states. The character and energy of the first 20 singlet–singlet electronic transitions are investigated by applying the time‐dependent density functional theory (TD‐DFT) approximations to the correspondingly optimized ground‐state geometries. The lowest singlet state is studied with the configuration interaction (singles) approach (CIS). Excitation energies are red shifted when the FT unit or its derivatives are extended longitudinally. CIS results suggest geometry relaxation in the first singlet excited state. When available, a comparison is made with experimental results. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Noble‐gas‐noble‐metal hydroxides NgAuOH (Ng = Kr, Xe) are investigated at the MP2 theoretical level. All species are found to be in Cs symmetry with an approximate linear Ng? Au? O moiety. The noble‐gas‐noble‐metal bond lengths are comparable with covalent limits, and the corresponding binding energies have been computed to be 59.6 and 83.4 kJ/mol for KrAuOH and XeAuOH, respectively. Except the charge‐induced dipole contribution to the binding energies, the remainder could be ascribed to the higher‐order charge‐induction energies, dispersion energies, the contributions of multipole moments on AuOH and covalent effects. The title species are sufficiently chemical bound and are expected to be stable species theoretically. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2008  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent DFT (TDDFT) are applied to study seven asymmetric π‐conjugated porphyrins with extended benzoheterocycles: quinoline, indole, benzoimidazole, benzothiazole, benzooxazole, 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole, and 2,1,3‐benzoxadiazole. The solvation effects on the excitation energies for these porphyrin derivatives in chloroform are taken into account by using the continuum model (C‐PCM) combined with TDDFT, and this method makes a closer agreement with the experimental values, especially for the B‐bands of these objects. Great efforts have been made on investigating the influences of the fused aromatic units of the porphyrins on the absorption properties as these can be particularly important for many applications. Benzoheterocycle introduction and solvent effects have been systemically investigated, and close agreement is obtained between calculated and measured UV–vis spectra. These theoretical data could shed light on future synthetic chemistry. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2007  相似文献

Core‐excitation energies are calculated by the self‐interaction‐corrected time‐dependent density functional theory (SIC‐TDDFT) and SIC‐delta‐self‐consistent field (SIC‐ΔSCF) methods. For carbon monoxide, SIC‐TDDFT severely overestimates core‐excitation energies, while the SIC‐ΔSCF method using Kohn–Sham density functional theory (KS‐DFT) slightly overestimates. These behaviors are attributed to the fact that the self‐interaction errors in the total and orbital energies considerably differ. We evaluate the difference of the self‐interaction errors for the Slater exchange functional. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2007  相似文献

In this work, we discuss how to use the invariant eigen‐operator (IEO) method to derive the electron binding energies for the quadratic fermion Hamiltonian. We find that the task of solving the energy gap of fermion Hamiltonian can be ascribed to simply solving a standard eigenvalue problem of a numerical matrix, which is determined by the parameters of the given Hamiltonian. The IEO method provides us with a new approach for solving quadratic Hamiltonians in a more convenient and concise way. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2011  相似文献

The molecular structure and intramolecular hydrogen bond energy of 32 conformers of 4‐methylamino‐3‐penten‐2‐one were investigated at MP2 and B3LYP levels of theory using the standard 6–31G** basis set and AIM analyses. Furthermore, calculations for all the possible conformations of 4‐methylamino‐3‐penten‐2‐one in water solution were also carried out at B3LYP/6–31G** level of theory. The calculated geometrical parameters and conformational analyses in gas phase and water solution show that the ketoamine conformers of this compound are more stable than the other conformers (i.e., enolimine and ketoimine). This stability is mainly due to the formation of a strong N? H···O intramolecular hydrogen bond, which is assisted by π‐electrons resonance. Hydrogen bond energies for all conformers of 4‐methylamino‐3‐penten‐2‐one were obtained from the related rotamers method. The nature of intramolecular hydrogen bond existing within 4‐methylamino‐3‐penten‐2‐one has been investigated by means of the Bader theory of atoms in molecules, which is based on topological properties of the electron density. The results of these calculations support the results which obtained by related rotamers method. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem, 2007  相似文献

Exploratory variational pseudopotential density functional calculations are performed for the electronic properties of many‐electron systems in the 3D cartesian coordinate grid (CCG). The atom‐centered localized gaussian basis set, electronic density, and the two‐body potentials are set up in the 3D cubic box. The classical Hartree potential is calculated accurately and efficiently through a Fourier convolution technique. As a first step, simple local density functionals of homogeneous electron gas are used for the exchange‐correlation potential, while Hay‐Wadt‐type effective core potentials are employed to eliminate the core electrons. No auxiliary basis set is invoked. Preliminary illustrative calculations on total energies, individual energy components, eigenvalues, potential energy curves, ionization energies, and atomization energies of a set of 12 molecules show excellent agreement with the corresponding reference values of atom‐centered grid as well as the grid‐free calculation. Results for three atoms are also given. Combination of CCG and the convolution procedure used for classical Coulomb potential can provide reasonably accurate and reliable results for many‐electron systems. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The CCSD(T) interaction energies for the H‐bonded and stacked structures of the uracil dimer are determined at the aug‐cc‐pVDZ and aug‐cc‐pVTZ levels. On the basis of these calculations we can construct the CCSD(T) interaction energies at the complete basis set (CBS) limit. The most accurate energies, based either on direct extrapolation of the CCSD(T) correlation energies obtained with the aug‐cc‐pVDZ and aug‐cc‐pVTZ basis sets or on the sum of extrapolated MP2 interaction energies (from aug‐cc‐pVTZ and aug‐cc‐pVQZ basis sets) and extrapolated ΔCCSD(T) correction terms [difference between CCSD(T) and MP2 interaction energies] differ only slightly, which demonstrates the reliability and robustness of both techniques. The latter values, which represent new standards for the H‐bonding and stacking structures of the uracil dimer, differ from the previously published data for the S22 set by a small amount. This suggests that interaction energies of the S22 set are generated with chemical accuracy. The most accurate CCSD(T)/CBS interaction energies are compared with interaction energies obtained from various computational procedures, namely the SCS–MP2 (SCS: spin‐component‐scaled), SCS(MI)–MP2 (MI: molecular interaction), MP3, dispersion‐augmented DFT (DFT–D), M06–2X, and DFT–SAPT (SAPT: symmetry‐adapted perturbation theory) methods. Among these techniques, the best results are obtained with the SCS(MI)–MP2 method. Remarkably good binding energies are also obtained with the DFT–SAPT method. Both DFT techniques tested yield similarly good interaction energies. The large magnitude of the stacking energy for the uracil dimer, compared to that of the benzene dimer, is explained by attractive electrostatic interactions present in the stacked uracil dimer. These interactions force both subsystems to approach each other and the dispersion energy benefits from a shorter intersystem separation.  相似文献

A new class of open‐shell polymethine monoradicals, possessing nonbonding molecular orbitals (NBMO) and very low excitation energies, was investigated theoretically. The radicals are derivatives of the stable 2‐azaphenalenyl radical. Since in the ground state the NBMO is strictly localized within a molecular fragment, the electron transitions are connected with a substantial charge‐transfer. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A quantum‐chemical calculation of the homolytic and heterolytic bond dissociation energies of the model compounds of the monomer and dimer is reported. These model compounds include the dormant chloride, bromide, and iodide species for representative activated and nonactivated monomers containing electron‐withdrawing groups as well as for a nonactivated monomer containing an electron‐donor group. Two examples of sulfonyl and N‐halide initiators are also reported. The homolytic inner‐sphere electron‐transfer bond dissociation is known as atom transfer and is responsible for the activation step in ATRP. The heterolytic outer sphere single electron transfer bond dissociation is responsible for the activation step in single electron transfer mediated living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP). The results of this study demonstrated much lower bond dissociation energies for the outer sphere single electron transfer processes. These results explain the higher rate constant of activation, the higher apparent rate constant of propagation, and the lower polymerization temperature for both activated and nonactivated monomers containing electron‐withdrawing groups in SET‐LRP. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple message‐passing implementation for distributed disk storage, called array files (AF), is described. It is designed primarily for parallelizing computational chemistry applications but it should be useful for any application that handles large amounts of data stored on disk. AF allows transparent distributed storage and access of large data files. An AF consists of a set of logically related records, i.e., blocks of data. It is assumed that the records have the typical dimension of matrices in quantum chemical calculations, i.e., they range from 0.1 to ~32 MB in size. The individual records are not striped over nodes; each record is stored on a single node. As a simple application, second‐order Møller‐Plesset (MP2) energies have been implemented using AF. The AF implementation approaches the efficiency of the hand‐coded program. MP2 is relatively simple to parallelize but for more complex applications, such as Coupled Cluster energies, the AF system greatly simplifies the programming effort. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We use second order Moller Plesset perturbation theory and several density functional theory methods to calculate the counterpoise corrected electronic interaction energies between benzene and a series of polyaromatic molecules. These systems serve as a simple model for DNA intercalation. We show that addition of nitrogen atoms to the polyaromatic molecules always increases sandwich‐type interactions, and that, of the density functional theory methods studied, only SVWN can mimic the interaction energies and optimal separations obtained with perturbation theory. SVWN reproduces the optimal molecular distances obtained with perturbation theory very well, and often comes within less than 10% of the interaction energy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The presence of hydrogen bonding interactions in several tautomeric forms of formohydroxamic acid (FHA) and 1:1 association among the tautomeric forms and water‐coordinated tautomeric forms of FHA is explored theoretically. Out of the seven equilibrium structures, four tautomeric forms have been selected for aggregation with single water molecule and dimer formation. Fifteen aggregates of FHA with H2O have been optimized at MP2/AUG‐cc‐PVDZ level and analyzed for intramolecular and intermolecular H‐bond interactions. Twenty‐seven dimers of the four tautomeric forms have been obtained at MP2/6‐31+G* level. The stabilization energies associated with dimerization and adduct formation with water are the result of H‐bond interactions and range from very weak to medium. The atomic charges and NBO analysis indicate that the electrostatic and the charge transfer are the important components favoring H‐bond formation. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We present a simple increment model for use in the rapid scoring of hydrogen bond strengths employing 15 chemically diverse donor and 28 acceptor terms. The increments cover a large variety of hydrogen bond donor and acceptor groups and are more specific than SYBYL atom types. The increments have been fitted to quantum chemical ab initio interaction energies of 81 small hydrogen‐bonded complexes determined at the level of second‐order Møller‐Plesset perturbation theory (MP2). The complexes have been chosen such as to represent the most important types of donor‐acceptor pairs found in biological systems. Sulphur is found to be a strong hydrogen bond acceptor while its donor capacities are weak. By taking CH acidic H donors into account, a linear correlation between MP2 energies and the increment model with a coefficient of correlation of r2 = 0.994 has been accomplished. The transferability of the fitted parameters has been assessed on a second set of complexes including larger molecules of biological relevance. Very good agreement has been achieved for noncyclic hydrogen bonds. Cooperative effects are not accounted for by the current increment model. For this reason, binding energies of strong cyclic hydrogen bonds, as e.g. present in DNA base pairs, are underestimated by about 30–40%. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Comput Chem, 2007  相似文献

The tendencies of ring‐opening processes in radical ring‐opening polymerizations were evaluated by AM1 and PM3 semi‐empirical calculations and 6‐31G*‐level calculations based on the density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP models. Sixteen cyclic monomers bearing vinyl or exomethylene groups were categorized into ring‐opening and no‐ring‐opening monomers by the evaluation of the differences of the internal energies and the lengths of the cleaving bonds between the ground states of the initial radicals and the activated states in the ring‐opening processes. Although the semi‐empirical calculations not parameterized to radical reactions resulted in the moderate categorization of the ring‐opening monomers, the DFT calculation clearly distinguished the ring‐opening and no‐ring‐opening monomers. The ring‐opening tendencies were also evaluated with the changes in the internal energies throughout the ring‐opening processes, but this method could not group the ring‐opening and no‐ring‐opening monomers clearly. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An analytic potential energy function is proposed and applied to evaluate the amide–amide and amide–water hydrogen‐bonding interaction energies in peptides. The parameters in the analytic function are derived from fitting to the potential energy curves of 10 hydrogen‐bonded training dimers. The analytic potential energy function is then employed to calculate the N? H…O?C, C? H…O?C, N? H…OH2, and C?O…HOH hydrogen‐bonding interaction energies in amide–amide and amide–water dimers containing N‐methylacetamide, acetamide, glycine dipeptide, alanine dipeptide, N‐methylformamide, N‐methylpropanamide, N‐ethylacetamide and/or water molecules. The potential energy curves of these systems are therefore obtained, including the equilibrium hydrogen bond distances R(O…H) and the hydrogen‐bonding energies. The function is also applied to calculate the binding energies in models of β‐sheets. The calculation results show that the potential energy curves obtained from the analytic function are in good agreement with those obtained from MP2/6‐31+G** calculations by including the BSSE correction, which demonstrate that the analytic function proposed in this work can be used to predict the hydrogen‐bonding interaction energies in peptides quickly and accurately. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The scaled opposite spin Møller–Plesset method (SOS‐MP2) is an economical way of obtaining correlation energies that are computationally cheaper, and yet, in a statistical sense, of higher quality than standard MP2 theory, by introducing one empirical parameter. But SOS‐MP2 still has a fourth‐order scaling step that makes the method inapplicable to very large molecular systems. We reduce the scaling of SOS‐MP2 by exploiting the sparsity of expansion coefficients and local integral matrices, by performing local auxiliary basis expansions for the occupied‐virtual product distributions. To exploit sparsity of 3‐index local quantities, we use a blocking scheme in which entire zero‐rows and columns, for a given third global index, are deleted by comparison against a numerical threshold. This approach minimizes sparse matrix book‐keeping overhead, and also provides sufficiently large submatrices after blocking, to allow efficient matrix–matrix multiplies. The resulting algorithm is formally cubic scaling, and requires only moderate computational resources (quadratic memory and disk space) and, in favorable cases, is shown to yield effective quadratic scaling behavior in the size regime we can apply it to. Errors associated with local fitting using the attenuated Coulomb metric and numerical thresholds in the blocking procedure are found to be insignificant in terms of the predicted relative energies. A diverse set of test calculations shows that the size of system where significant computational savings can be achieved depends strongly on the dimensionality of the system, and the extent of localizability of the molecular orbitals. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
