The torsional problem of a finite elastic cylinder with a circumferential edge crack is studied in this paper. An efficient solution to the problem is achieved by using a new form of regularization applied to dual Dini series equations. Unlike the Srivastav approach, this regularization transforms dual equations into a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind given on the crack surface. Hence, exact asymptotic expansions of the Fredholm equation solution, the stress intensity factor and the torque are derived for the case of a shallow crack. The asymptotic expansions are certain power-logarithmic series of the normalized crack depth. Coefficients of these series are found from recurrent relations. Calculations for a shallow crack manifest that the stress intensity factor exhibits the rather weak dependence upon the cylinder length when the torque is fixed and the triple length is larger than the diameter.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the problem of obtaining higher approximations for the free convection from a heated vertical flat plate to that represented by the well known solution of Schmidt and Beckmann. For large Grashof number, the perturbation problem is a singular one and the method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to construct inner and outer expansions for the velocity and temperature distributions. The small perturbation parameterε is the inverse of the fourth root of the Grashof number and the expansions are shown to involve only integral powers ofε. The first three terms in the expansion are calculated and numerical results are presented for the velocity, temperature, skin friction and heat transfer. The agreement with experiment is found to be excellent, and the theory fully explains the discrepancies which exist between boundary layer theory and experiment.  相似文献

A distributed dislocation dipole technique for the analysis of multiple straight, kinked and branched cracks in an elastic half plane has been developed. The dipole density distribution is represented with a weighted Jacobi polynomial expansion where the weight function captures the asymptotic behaviour at each end of the crack. To allow for opening and sliding at crack kinking and branching the dipole density representation contains conditional extra terms which fulfills the asymptotic behaviour at each endpoint. Several test cases involving straight, kinked and branched cracks have been analysed, and the results suggest that the accuracy of the method is within 1% provided that Jacobi polynomial expansions up to at least the sixth order are used. Adopting even higher order Jacobi polynomials yields improved accuracy. The method is compared to a simplified procedure suggested in the literature where stress singularities associated with corners at kinking or branching are neglected in the representation for the dipole density distribution. The comparison suggests that both procedures work, but that the current procedure is superior, in as much as the same accuracy is reached using substantially lower order polynomial expansions.  相似文献

Nonuniformities of asymptotic expansions seriously restrict their applicability [1–4]. The various methods used to overcome this difficulty (Lighthill [1], renormalizations [2, 3], generalized summation [2]) do not always succeed. In addition, it is helpful to have alternative approaches. Krawtchouk polynomials are frequently applied in modern physics. Based on the results which were educed by Li and Wong, the asymptotic expansions of Krawtchouk polynomials are improved by using Airy function, and uniform asymptotic expansions are got. Furthermore, the asymptotic expansions of the zeros for Krawtchouk polynomials are again deduced by using the property of the zeros of Airy function, and their corresponding error bounds are discussed. The obtained results give the asymptotic property of Krawtchouk polynomials with their zeros, which are better than the results educed by Li and Wong.  相似文献

We study the canonical problem of wave scattering by periodic arrays, either of infinite or finite extent, of Neumann scatterers in the plane; the characteristic lengthscale of the scatterers is considered small relative to the lattice period. We utilise the method of matched asymptotic expansions, together with Fourier series representations, to create an efficient and accurate numerical approach for finding the dispersion curves associated with Floquet–Bloch waves through an infinite array of scatterers. The approach lends itself to direct scattering problems for finite arrays and we illustrate the flexibility of these asymptotic representations on topical examples from topological wave physics.  相似文献

Summary The problem considered is that of the heat transfer occurring at the inlet to a parallel plate channel. Instead of separating variables, the energy equation is solved, after transformation, in the form of a power series. This method supplies information concerning the initial growth of the thermal boundary layer which is not obtainable by previous methods using eigen-function expansions. A sufficient number of coefficients of the series is computed to allow the present solution to be joined to the asymptotic eigen-function solution, thus completing the treatment of the problem for all values of the longitudinal variable.  相似文献

The linear problem of inviscid incompressible flow around a high-aspect-ratio wing at an angle of attack and in the presence of steady pitching and rolling rotation is considered. The main integral equation of the problem is reduced to a sequence of one-dimensional integral equations without use of the matched asymptotic expansions method. The first few terms of the series for the circulation distribution over the wing surface are calculated. For an elliptic high-aspect-ratio wing the corresponding aerodynamic forces are calculated. The derivatives of the aerodynamic coefficients of the wing with respect to the angle of attack and the angular velocities are determined. The asymptotic expressions obtained are compared with the results of numerical calculations of the corresponding derivatives using the discrete vortex method.  相似文献

This paper considers the flow in a two-dimensional channel at high Reynolds number, with wall deformations which can lead to flow separation. An asymptotic model is proposed by using the successive complementary expansion method with generalized asymptotic expansions. In particular, the model emphasizes the asymmetry of the channel geometry by introducing a change of variables. It is shown that the model is more general than the models developed with the method of matched asymptotic expansions. Comparisons with Navier–Stokes solutions show that the model is well founded and enables us to treat original problems.  相似文献

We present a perturbation method for the analysis of single degree of freedom non-linear oscillation phenomena governed by an equation of motion containing a parameter ? which need not be small. The approach is to define a new parameter α = α(?) in such a way that asymptotic solutions in power series in α converge more quickly than do the standard perturbation expansions in power series in ?. The effect of a nonuniform velocity field on the diffusion process is examined. When the local passive admixture transport equation is averaged over the channel cross section, the differential equation for the average concentration over the cross section is obtained in the form of an infinite asymptotic series whose terms are linear combinations of the derivatives of the average concentration with respect to the coordinate and time, while the coefficients depend on the degree of transverse nonuniformity of the velocity field and the radial Péclet number. Estimates show that in most of the cases encountered in practice to ensure that the calculations have the necessary accuracy the series must include derivatives up to the third order.
